I've known for years that the mongoose was the arch-enemy of the cobra. But I always thought it was just their speed and ability to avoid the snake strikes. I had no idea they're actually resistant to the venom too!

Just like Zangoose(a Pokemon). and a zangooses natural enemy happens to be a serpent like pokemon called seviper, and they DON'T get along while zangoose even has an ability called immunity which makes it completely immune to the poison status condition. Just thought it was a fun parallel to drop on this thread. of course... this is no coincidence either as pokemon tend to be based off of real things. lol.

Too much venom can kill the Mongoose that's why they dodge the snake bite. Honey Badger on the other hand is completely resistant to snake venom.

Outstanding! And true as well. Mongooses are so quick that they can practically take out anything. They have very thick fur, which helps mitigate the damage from snake bites and other creatures as well. And they have a special element in their blood that helps counteract snake venom.

Let me guess you didn't because it would hurt your ego- Mongoose are immune to low quantity of neurotoxic venom fol those of Cobra and krait and other elapid snakes. They have an innate modulated receptors that renders the neurotoxic venom futile,and specialized acetylcholine receptors that render them resistant or immune to snake venom. But Mark it, they are not immune to any hemotoxic or myotoxic venom. So any bite in any small fatal dose from a viper and other hemotoxic snake will turn fatal for the mongoose. In short Immune to neurotoxic( Cobra and krait) Non-immune to hemotoxic( vipers). mongooses are not immune to snake venom. But they can deal with a little bit of the venom. To be immune to something basically means that whatever you're immune to can't touch you. Mongooses are not truly immune to snake venom (as many resources will try to tell you) because they will die if they get bitten too much and get too much venom in their systems. So, while mongooses can tolerate a small amount of snake venom (certainly enough to save their life more than a few times), mongooses are not immune to snake venom. *Those words comes from worldwide mammal experts* Pretty sure experts aren't fool but reservoir keeper can be fool enough like you to believe anything . So the Moongoos dont try to kill snakes , they just wound thm and anaconda will easily get wounded coz of bigger body.
The mere fact this thing can square off with a black Mamba(second deadliest venom record holder for land snakes) is amazing. For us humans one bite equals one way trip to heaven in about 30 minutes give or take.

I've known for years that the mongoose was the arch-enemy of the cobra. But I always thought it was just their speed and ability to avoid the snake strikes. I had no idea they're actually resistant to the venom too!

But Mark it, they are not immune to any hemotoxic or myotoxic venom. So any bite in any small fatal dose from a viper and other hemotoxic snake will turn fatal for the mongoose. In short Immune to neurotoxic( Cobra and krait) Non-immune to hemotoxic( vipers). mongooses are not immune to snake venom. But they can deal with a little bit of the venom. To be immune to something basically means that whatever you're immune to can't touch you.
