I bought a cheap Mclaren 720s from europe thinking i had got myself a bargain rebuild project. But i wasnt until i spotted some hidden damage which required me to take it to a Mclaren repair specialist who have to ask permission from Mclaren themselves to be able to repair it...

Matt I work for a carbon fibre company! We recently done a repair on a McLaren F1 carbon chassis. We MAY be able to help. I messaged you on insta a while ago when you put up a story about this. I can’t promise we will be the cheapest but with 20+ years in the industry you won’t get much better knowledge! (Can everyone like this comment so Matt sees it) 😂
So excited to see the progress
Very nice

Super just awesome

Its Mat not mat first letter of names are written in Big letters
Whenever Mat makes a “big mistake”, you know it’s gonna be a great build.
A no that quick means he knew it was a no. They can't tell you if they can fix it over the phone but they can tell you if they can't.
Goosebumps everything mat
I don’t think he’ll be as lucky as Freddy was with his carbon fix. This is either going to be a complete write off or some mad max style build (which would up the cost way too much so probably not going to happen).
@@LegionShade I think he's very competent and knows exactly what he is doing.
@@Spedley_2142 let’s hope so!!
"The country we're flying to: Amsterdam!" 😂😂😂😂
It's true... trust him ; )
Well he doesn't get paid for his geographical knowledge after all Going to be a great build whether the source is a city or a country
@@dialedindetail5899 Your sense of humor is .... non-existent :D
One guy asked me other day if capital of Germany is Belgium.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Hi Mat, I'm probably older than your Dad & have been messing about with fast cars & bikes for approx 40yrs. I love your videos & you guys never fail to impress me. But this fix is gonna be on a totally different level mate! I wish you the very best of luck & I look forward to your usual optimism in the face of massive adversity 😃
The porsche flash at 14:08 about the pyro fuse, lol! Looking forward to this progressing already
Quite frustrating that the carbon repair specialists told you that they would have to see it in person, when it was clearly obvious that from a photo they could have told you that the carbon wasn’t repairable 😢
Exactly what I thought
exactly, ridiculous
+1
Made for a decent, tense build up and some more minutes of content for Matt 😁 But... Deffo gutted for Matt when he said "Nah"
Thought the same thing myself. Even a video call could have saved everyone time and money. Gutted for you Mat. Did you keep the receipt? 😬
Ah a McLaren. Looks horrible, but Tavarish is rubbing off on you lol. Going to be a good series.
Yeah I watched a Vtuned video on his McLaren and the buildquality is supposedly horrible.
Yes, I'm looking forward to it.

we all know Mat will get this thing fixed, no matter how bad it looks rn. God bless you Mat!
As someone who made a lot of those carbon parts in the past, I’m interested to see how this goes good luck Mat
Me too
It's an area that really shouldn't be repaired... it will def need more than just a patch filler...
If you could help Matt, I'm sure he would pay for your trip to come out to help him
working with Carbon is a health hazard
as some one who hand forged carbon for 25 years, 5x Gold Certified Platinum Craftsman, i'm unsure to say the least 😂
This guy consistently keeps us entertained. Let's hope this series continues to thrive and never loses its charm.
Mat is perhaps one of very few popular young KZheadrs that genuinely works for his coin. Good lesson in life for everyone out there who thinks that making it is easy.
Too true Mat never fails to impress🤗🤗
your opinion is crazy, imagine saying that most if not all young youtubers put zero work to their craft... welp nothing new from the older generation, haha
@@sebu46 yes maybe but Mat goes soo much further than most. Travelling to work on cars in America, working all hours at very physical jobs and never giving up when he hits a problem.
Smiling, laughing and remaining positive, such an inspiration! All the best with the rebuild bud!
Always consistently trying to challenge yourself. That's inspiring af bro. Good luck on the new project!
He’s crazy 😅
Oh man, I felt gutted as soon as he said, 'Nah'.... what a harsh blow. I do hope you can somehow get this fixed! Hard work beats talent bro! ;)
McLaren won't even help Tavarish repair the 300 odd mile flooded P1.
He'll find a way.
The carbon tub can be changed. It has been done before by vTuned.
I would suspect he knew before buying it, made good viewing though.
Time to get Freddie's guy to the UK lol
i'm from Africa Namibia, i stand so far from the job you do moreover all this cars that you repair, your profession, hard work and determination. Mat... you move many from far places that you can't even imagine. Proud of every spot and the journey you have embarked on since the start. you doing amazing Champ...i drive a Mazda, one day, i will drive that M5 that you worked on 😅😅😅
What great content - I've no idea how you have the energy to keep the consistency going!!
Think your dads name was said more times in this video than all the others combined 😂 Definitely a big job, looking forward to see some more on this and the Ferrari. HWBT
Was just about to comment that i went back 3 times was like no wat🤣🤣
I immediately started reading comments when I heard it to see if anybody else got it
I vote we keep calling him Mat's Dad
Toe neiii?
i didn’t hear Tony…you’re all good.
See if Tavarish carbon repair specialist would be willing to fly over to repair it Matt! Loving all your builds 👌🏾👍🏾
The only problem I see if the manufacturer says no. How are you going to get it a road legal again?
Yep, that's what I'd do
@@MartinBalle7the manufacturer can’t tell him not to put it on the road.
or ship it to FL
ship it to me, me and my homies in middle east will fix it with or without mclarens permission. We handle our shit.
Great effort and chemistry, always having fun watching the videos. In particular that you build cars from all over Europe. My advise, take it apart and look at the pieces individually. There is always a solution and nothing is lost forever.
Amazing journey. Cant wait to see more! greetings from The Netherlands!
Love the way you guys keep your spirits up despite all the setbacks, it's inspiring. Your Dad is a top guy! Best of luck boys. You got this!
I sense a Tavarish, DDE collaboration is needed for this one!!! How amazing that would be, the best automotive content trio out there!!! All three building bad arse McLaren builds happening at the same time!!
Amazing 😻 Mat and the other builders good luck. Can’t wait to see the McLaren being fixed 🎉❤
Really exited to see how you will come around with this build... And I'm sure you'll do the impossible.
Hi Mat, I work at MCTC Sheffield, building tubs for McLaren and unfortunately, that kind of damage is unreparable to my knowledge 😢
How much is a new tub? The Sheffield-made ones are supposed to be a lot cheaper than the previous types.....
You're correct. There is no way you can make this sound unfortunately.
Definitely a challenge - there are no mistakes only lessons - I'm sure Mat's skill will teach us how it's done. 👍
This guy's dedication is honestly something else
This is insane, I'm defo following this rebuild.
Gutted! Surely that technician guy could of told you that by looking at the photos you sent, literally said no from looking at it from a distance. Im sure you figure it out. Gonna be epic
Literally thought this, surely they would have known?! Hopefully a plan b is created.
yeah seems like time wasted by the repair center there. maybe they wanted the clout of Matt showing up
Of course they could’ve told him but the whole thing is scripted , All part of the show
One thing I’d recommend, is talk to DDE and Mike Essa. He’s been helping rebuild their 720 GTR and he’s understood some things about the car that the average guy wouldn’t know. Especially about the rear, and the rear suspension being charged with hydraulics. All the best for the build Mat! Edit : I just saw that you talked to Mike! This is going to be a good build
Gonna be a great donor car for spare parts 😔
the real problem for Mat is the monocoque carbon chassis, since its not repairable/replace even if they asked the dealership. the other parts that broken can be easily replaced.
Did you watch the video? He was literally FaceTiming DDE
@@yjkader I dropped the comment before I saw that he made a FaceTime call. Hence the edit in the comment. Appreciate your concern tho!
Let´s Go ! Wish you the best you gonna fix it !
Bricking it for you, but so excited to see the progress. Good luck Mat. 😊
I've bought a TT as a bit of a play thing while my C63s has some engine work done so I'm viewing your original TT vids and to go from that to a 720 is mental!! A clear testiment to your positive attitude, growing set of skills and just getting in their and making it happen! Like all your cars, I'll watch and see you succeed!
It's amazing how optimistic you are even when facing such an adversity. Honestly, you're definitely one of the most inspiring KZheadrs out there because you show people it can be done even when the whole world might say it can't.
Totally agree. He smiles through it all.
Dealing with The Dutch🤣
Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those who are doing it
Easy when your rich…😂
At this point the channel is probably successful enough that they can just write it off as a business expense. Even if its unfixable the video about it still makes money and will probably cover the cost eventually.
Waiting for another video Matt!! Lol very interesting videos always looking forward to new videos🙌🏽
Mate I'm so looking forward to this series, its gonna be fascinating and I KNOW you'll sort something out. I do wonder however, with it being mclaren, are the panels built bespoke car to car or is it all "off the shelf"
What I would be frustrated and a bit miffed about is the fact that they seemed to know instantly that the tub couldn’t be repaired. How can they know that from looking at it for a second but they couldn’t do that via a photo so you didn’t take such a risk? If they can tell that quickly, and it sounded like they had very strict guidelines on what they can and can’t do, then they would have been able to make that assessment from a photo. That’s some stinky BS there!
Thought the exact same, guy said no before he’d even lifted up any trim
When you’re a professional, there are things you’re willing to take on and some that are risky. Not BS to me, just a comfort level.
Facts.....seems like they didn't have your best interest in mind on the phone or in person. Shame on them.
They could have confirmed this from a photo if its based on size that the manager was telling Mat in the clip, no need to buy and take the car there. Just wanted free advertisement...
@@Venom198518 The assessment they did in person could absolutely have been done on a photo. They mentioned something about the size of the damage they are allowed to fix and to say they couldn’t have done that on a photo with something as a reference, is in my view BS.
Dude I’m not doubting your skills, and I’m sure you wouldn’t make content on it if you weren’t sure of what you’re doing, but from a glance that’s a massive undertaking bro. Kudos to you in advance man!
@@unidentified666 I’m excited to see what the end result is. Isn’t this his first 720?
But apparently after all this time he’s “not a mechanic”
@@gregwilldoitllc who says? He’s done nothing to make me think otherwise
@@Graves-81_69 time and time again mat says he’s not a mechanic. Which is ridiculous as I feel it’s a bit of a cop out comment from him. As that’s literally what he does
@@gregwilldoitllc I agree. I worked in garages in my teenage years and I’ve worked for the same company building ambulances for almost 22 years now, so I’m very impressed with what Mat does and I’d hire him in a heartbeat
Going to be an interesting journey… we are all here to support Matt / Team. I am sure he will find solutions to have it rebuild with or without Mclaren’s help
I've been totaly addicted to your content. I really love your transparancy and your optimism. Keep it up. P.s. I laughed really hard when that Porsche logo blinked. Remembering the GTR rebuild 😅
McLaren shop saying no and that nervous laugh from Mat means challenge accepted 😂
Massive respect for taking this one on! you are very brave and I'm certainly hooked and can't wait to see how this one pans out. I guess options are strip it for parts or see if a specialist carbon repair company can do it, obviously not going to be Mclaren approved so that may impact the resale value... but if it passes all safety inspections and it's all documented you might make it work! Good luck with this one!
You're a brave man !!
Very excited about this 720s build this will be elite 🔥🔥
What a long way you’ve come Matt , so happy for you!
This is the first time i've seen a car and thought "Mat will properly struggle with this one", have fun lad!
I'm watching this thinking, not worth the time. the one approved shop rejected it, there will always be a question over this car no matter what he does. the interior was cool though, that 60k+ could maybe be salvaged for some kind of frankenstein project
If you look at that porche it was almost as bad. But yeah, he shouldn’t have taken this on because of the carbon.
Fair play to you Mat always challenging yourself....very good
I respect your hardwork dear mat
Best build of the year I can’t wait to see what your gonna do with it🔥🔥🔥
vTuned repaired a similar damaged 720s and they had to replace the tub. Just give it a shot to the channel to understand the work done. The price is good and if the engine runs and a good tub is available, then could be a nice build!
Amazing video mate. Go on, you can do it
Love the chemistry between you all and the positivity even when facing gigantic challenges
hey, you're really crazy. I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago and watched almost all the videos. cracy how you have developed in such a short time. super sympathetic how your family and friends are part of every rebuild. the honesty and authenticity make the videos something special. it's so much fun watching you bring the cars back to life. keep on going - hard to believe what you can see on your channel. really unique
These videos are so addictive, love the story behind how you got to where you are now and the gamble you take on these cars...amazing stuff
Yes!!!! This is going to be an awesome series!
Good luck, Nice project!
As a Dutchie, thank you for your trust in us 😊
I saw this car in the Netherlands on the side of the road when it first came in at that company. I hope you are able to fix it, I wish you guys the best of luck. I am for sure going to follow this journey!
Good luck with this one Matt, looks like it’s going to be a huge challenge! I’m sure you’l do it👍🏻
Definitely worth fixing this one up. I wonder with all the great PR Porsche and Lamborghini enjoyed from your last builds and the level of channel subscription, McLaren might help you out on the carbon fibre tub replacement / repair?
This has to be the biggest challenge yet. I wish you and the team the best of luck with the repair! 👍
Well guys. I used to work for a carbon/glass fiber factory in Holland and we produced the front Mercedes/McLaren crash cones. Those are braided parts, so they are not repairable!. If your damaged parts are 'patched' you can repair them without losing their strength. Braided parts can not be repaired without losing their original strength! Cheers Nico.
Sooo looking forward to this build 😊
looking forward to this series
Absolutely astonishing content keep up with the dedication amd motivation Matt

I really appreciated that Porsche Insignia flash when discussing the pyro fuse locations being odd… those are the subtleties that make your videos better.
17:36 i love how we all have the tradition on matts vids to start the car almost together in spirit. 😂 please always do this. :) saying that i never knew how hard it is to actually start a damaged car when you mentioned about brake pressure and what the car is needing when its broke. Looking forward to this one. Not really a fan of mclarens but i am now if matt has a damaged one😂
Hi Matt, This will be a tricky repair especially with no access to the McLaren automotive ply 3d and ply book as we have no idea what type of resin system or prepreg carbon is used. I would be very surprised if they will ever approve any repair not drawn by their Design Office but you never know. I think your best bet would be to strip it back, have it Ultrasonically NDT tested for delamination's and have an experienced F1 contract composite design Engineer take a look. I can recommend someone that has previously carried out this in this type of work for a client In Brunei that unfortunately totalled a McLaren F1 a few years ago. let me know.
Ur content is so unique and interesting mate ❤
