This ride on lawn mower is rusty and rotten. It has been left outside for years. The engine won't turn over and the whole thing looks like it's ready to be scrapped. Will it run?
Thank you to my Patrons
/ daggerwin
Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower kzhead.infoUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.
Very impressive. When you gave us the first look at this machine my thought was it had been outside for months (read that to mean years) and everything was locked solid. Your willingness to give it a chance to live again is commendable, and your open-mindednesses paid off. You truly know your stuff!
I know all these videos take much time with work, buying parts editing and so forth. I always get excited when I see a new video. Great work!!
YESS!! I love watching this kinda of mower get restored! please do more of these super basic riding mower restores ! Also please show more video of the restored machinery working xoxo
Great job bringing this mower back to life. You've brought it back this far, so how about a more thorough renovation? Good demonstration of knowledge and skill. Thank you.
I say he fully Mad Maxes it. Get it working, but make it look like a rust bucket about to fall apart
I love watching these videos! So relaxing and informative. Hope you consider a full resto now that you know it runs and drives well.
I owned a Simplicity/Agco riding mower here in the US with one of those B&S Intek V-Twin engines. It was dead-solid reliable and extremely easy to maintain. The only issue I ever had was the fuel pump. There is a vent on the back side that tends to get clogged with dust and debris. I would be mowing along just fine and then it would start to act like it was running out of fuel. It would stay running if I applied the choke but even then it would eventually expire. After leaving it to sit for a while it would restart and run like nothing had happened, until it soon repeated the issue. After pulling the pump off and cleaning the vent with carburetor cleaner, it never gave anymore trouble. Excellent video, as always. Keep up the great work, and cheers!
Lies
@@DansERVvids lies? How so, may I ask?
@@garfield89dude32 I’ve had buddy’s have inteks and they said they were shit
@@DansERVvids Hmm, that's news to me. I had mine for 15 years and put over 300 hours on it with only the dirty vent on the back of the fuel pump giving it an issue. I maintained it regularly, used synthetic oil and wix filters. I had a 38" deck I mowed 1.5 acres with and a 36" front mount snowblower I used during the winters. It was a great machine, maybe I was lucky? Or your buddies weren't? Who knows?
Vent on the fuel pump?!
I like the 'will it run' videos as much as your restorations. It must be quite a feeling of accomplishment to get that old musty engine working again.
A most enjoyable experience with a very knowledgeable guide taking us through the process … and in the quiet periods we could even enjoy the sounds of the sparrows nearby!
Huh...I was just thinking earlier that a Machinery Restorer video would be nice. And whaddya know, you've posted one...now, if you'll excuse me - time to actually watch it!
I’ll never have the need for a ride on mower but I find your videos absolutely fascinating and it always a good day when a new video pops up!
I like how meticulous you are when doing repairs. I feel like everything is being done top notch.
I thoroughly enjoy these rebuild / restore videos. It gets me motivated to get outside and fix something. Fix it whether it needs it or not.
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is!
Fix it to death!
@@rpavlik1 Sometimes I'll take something apart just to see what makes it work.
I gotta tell ya, I really enjoy your videos. The indepth explanation on how to rebuild these mowers is absolutely amazing. Keep up the great work!!
Daggerwin, it is very impressive that you know how to do all this work! I love all of your videos, keep up the great work!!
What a result - Another machine saved from the scrap heap! 👏
Excellent work! Love these restoration/ restore videos and your commentary really completes it 👍
Great rescue...maybe a future full restoration 🙂! Thanks for your indepth breakdown of the repair. Love your videos, and looking forward to your future projects. Thanks!
"Excuse you!" ROFLMFAO!
Great watching. Enjoy watching these restorations. Love to get into it myself one day
IT was Great to see it all done so slowly and carefully so we can comprehend what you were doing. 100% BEST VIDEO I EVER SAW. ON SMALL ENGINE REPAIR !!! 😁 🇺🇸
Awesome as always Dag, now you have a solid engine and drive train to transplant. I have a v-twin engine similar to that one, and it’s been going 14+ years with no issues. And will be starting another mowing season soon.
I like the quality of work you do. Whoever abused the rtv silicone in the past to fix it should have someone else to do the job the right way like you did. Nice job and saved a good engine.
Great and informative diagnosis for all to learn from...very nicely videoed too. Well done Sir!
Thanks for sharing your videos with all of us. I ENJOY EVERY ONE!!!!
Nice rescue! I really enjoyed this one. I'd like to see this refitted with a few replacement parts (seat, gas tank, etc) to really get it "back on the road."
Oh, my. I thought the whining sound the engine made was you struggling to turn the flywheel… Ha! Fantastic job as usual.
Too funny haha
This channel just showed up on my recommended and I heard the voice... I was like "Wait.... Dagerwin.. Is that you?" Then I saw the state of the tractor. It must be Virtual Daggerwin. No way Daggerwin would ride something like that.
I really enjoy watching your videos. I’ve learned so much. Thanks for sharing.
Great to have you back. Always enjoy your videos.
Thanks for the video Dag!
Brilliant job! I like that you diagnosed and only fixed what needed to be fixed in order to make it run. That little motor sounds great! I for one do like the narration. For me it would be like going to school with earplugs in. 😄 Looking forward to your next endeavor and thank you for sharing! 🙂
I like narration too, but things are over explained imo. I guess it's better than no explanation at all.
That's the same engine that was on my dad's old Huskee lawnmower from the early 2000s. That engine will not die, no matter what you throw at it. Sadly, he retired the lawnmower sometime in 2013-2014 because of a snapped rear axle. He didn't want to fool with replacing it. The lawnmower had a good run for over 10 years. He now has a Toro zero turn mower with a 753 cc Kawasaki twin.
That's a heck of a powerplant for a lawn mower!
Another great video! Never doubted you would get it running again👍👍👍
I laughed when you apologized to the intake manifolds for saying they’re less important😂 awesome video as always dude
A Very enjoyable episode.. well done, and thank you for sharing
Can't believe I have only just come across this channel, been subbed to your other one for yonks! Cracking job all the best to you
Result! Nice one, little tip if your not already aware, it's a good practice to give the valves a couple of light taps with a hammer on the tappet end when re assembling it helps seat the keepers, its a pain in the rear if one inadvertently drops out.
I like the will it run videos just as much as your restorations. I had someone give me a servistar riding mower yesterday that hasn't run in 7 years that has a 18hp briggs and stratton opposed twin on it. I had it running in less than an hour after i got home from the hardware store where i buy my parts from
It's good to see that you got the broken screws out of the flywheel fan. Those looked iffy. I had a similar engine on a rider mower, and had to replace the ring gear as the original was plastic. The new one was metal.
Would love to see a full restoration on this one Daggs, Hayter make some great kit, its a shame to see it so neglected!
Great video and explanation, Enjoyed
GREAT VIDEO THANK YOU FOR THE INDEBT CLEANING OF THAT CARB OF THAT V TWIN INTEC ENGINE (SORRY ABOUT CAPS )
and another great job done, sounded really good well done
Engine sounds perfect. Purrs like a kitten. Very enjoyable to watch these vids with you commenting. Well done Sir! 😊👍
Interesting video thanks I have also had coils rusted to the coil .
Great to see a new video. Always wonder what do you do with your restored and rebuilt engines? Do you sell them or keep for projects that have a better condition mower of the same make/model? Nice work Daggerwin
I don’t understand why people leave expensive equipment sitting outside like that. I always store my equipment under cover. My mowers have never been outside overnight or in the rain.
Types of people to buy a new car every year and while continuing to pay loans
just lazy
Don’t have room in Garage. I have 4 Tractors that all live outdoors. I have up off the ground on either a trailer or pallets. I also have covers for each of them. Also 2 of my Tractors get used during the winter. One for blowing snow and the other for plowing the snow. I have a Cab for the one with the Blower on it.
@@whammond511 I have 4 lawn tractors that all run, a Husqvarna, Craftsman and 2 John deeres. They sit protected under structures and are in excellent condition since I take care of my equipment.
@@wolfblitz6609 You’re the perfect example of what I was saying except you at least have a roof over your equipment. I only have waterproof covers over 4 of my now 5 tractors. I have 3 Wheel Horse 520Hs, one 314-8 WH and my latest is a Wheel Horse NoName w/16 HP.
Nice I love the videos I’m always learning something new about Briggs engine
Fantastic!! I love your videos. I have a couple projects I need to start on as well.
This is the first time I've seen an overhead valve small engine taken apart & repaired. Very interesting. It seems like a lot of engine for such a small mower, but who ever complained about too much horsepower?
Superb content. Thoroughly enjoyed mate. 👏🏻👍🏻🔧
Fantastic video, these mowers were brilliant back in the day and still are now. Looking forward for the next video.
Thanks for the vid, great diagnostics and rebuilding. Said it on another vid but your really talented. Definitely prefer hearing you rather than the text captions.
Great job brother 👏
Just as good practice - when you're putting an oring on something like at 48:35, take a pick or a small screwdriver and get the shaft between the oring and the part it's on, then go around a few times to make sure the oring isn't rolled in on itself.
Very interesting thank you for making these videos
I'm very interested to see you work on that tiny tractor you had in a previous video again 😊
Your video’s are always very welcome :)
Daggerwin never knew it was u love your fs videos and restoration videos
I would not call this a waste of time! I had fun watching and you had fun doing it and if we're not careful, we might learn something too.
Mint job Dag
Another super video, thanks.
Very nice work.
Many years ago I use to work on aircraft radial engines both Pratt & Whitney and Wright. The little carburetor looks very much like the very large Stromberg Carlson units on some of those engines using the same basic design.
Looks like a double barrel Nikki carburetor. Always buy or make your own gaskets and o-rings vs using stupid amounts of silicone. Solid engine. Ideally want 20% or less on leak down test.
I sometimes wonder if the money spent on gaskets etc is justified by the value of the machine but this a great example of a very usable machine given a second life.
That was a quick and easy start up
Great Briggs engine, very reliable. Should be a fine mesh screen beneath the pleated air filter.
You mean the foam cleaner that has a mesh screen on the back ? Yeah people usually never put the prefilters in anything wich essentially clogged and ruins the cartridge filter
@@hunter7476 Not foam, under the paper filter in the front, it looks like a piece of window screen.
@@jeffvickers9390 yeah I got it now
Sounds like it’s running on one cylinder! Check it out! Great work as always.
i smell a new project : building a racing mower : that engine is perfect for that 😂
Bravo Maestro!
The blue spike shaped object @55:58 makes the entire setup look not unlike a scale model as it looks not unlike a pen. Perspective is a fun thing.
Nice! I got my lawn mower fixed also last day i think. or 2 days ago yea 2 days ago. Got the motor running aigan so thats nice. The trans seems to be working so all im gotta do is pump up all wheels and lets go for a spin! So excited. And im only 13 Hold that in mind. I checked the engine i cleaned the carb. And got it back running even tho it was actually sezed. "Not from the spark coil or so" It was actually stuck and got it free aigan. it only took me about 5 days getting the engine done! And it was standing 5 years not used. So yea Lets hope imma go for a spin with it sometime soon
I've always loved restorations. If one day I win at the lottery, I buy everything to do some.
sounds good to me . Good Job Sir i love watching your channel
Great video and your photography is superb especially the close-ups nice and sharp. What camera and/or lens do you use? You have a new subscriber.
Thank you .
Grear job, that's a keeper if ye can find a seat deck etc.
New to this channel, and I love the videos. Ty for explains things to us non mechanically inclined people. Lol
I follow you from Brazil, congratulations for the content!
Thank you very much!
This is a really good and interesting Restoration :)
Nice save
job very well done very talented
Good video mate
Excellent job; enjoyable to watch. Although I'm writing this in May 2022, there doesn't seem to be a production date for the video--did I miss it? Can these parts still be available? Thanks for a good presentation, everything was well-covered. Cheers.
Awesome video! i just subscribed to your channel and i hit the bell thing too. i can Hardly wait for your new video! Awesome job on getting it running again! :)
That engine is not bad at all. I saw some smoke when you first started it, but that may have been assembly lube burning off. Anyway, I think that little tractor would make a decent candidate for restoration too. I mean, it's filthy underneath, but other than that, it's in pretty good shape.
The foam rear spoiler is sweet.
Hip hip hurray very well done
Well done with the new video, great work as always, like the way you explain your work and methods to those like myself that enjoy our mowers ,lawn tractors etc. Can you suggest a good supplier in the UK for parts ie Briggs n Stratton, tuc peerless, etc as Iam now living Portugal. Just on another note I have a kubota B2150 hst with front loader n back Iam going to give a facelift etc in the coming months, any ideas for parts. Many thanks Maurice.👍🏻🚜
Wirewheel everything receipt the valves and the compression up it'll be good to go for a couple years
I have a 1988 craftsman gt18 that’s is covered in rust, look at my pfp. Anyways it sat about ten years. Engine seemed it was partially seized. Pulled the plugs and got it freed up but it was full of water in the cylinders. It took nothing but a carb, some gas, a coil and a starter to run. Ram for an hour yesterday and it used no oil. Very impressed with it
Foot hydro is nice for plowing snow and stuff if you get any.
I worked in a small engine repair shop and would run into the same problem that you are dealing with where the engintion coil would be locked with the flywheel.. preventing the engine from turning over.
Love your videos
You really should if you have not already done so reach out to Briggs & Stratton as they would probably hook you up with parts. You do an amazing job with their equipment.
cool valve spring tool...did you make it or purchase somewhere....thats pretty slick!!
I was waiting to see the money shot with the dirty shmoo released from the engine!
great job 👍
Thank you! 👍
What did you expect from the test ride that you installed the rear wing to keep it on the track? :-D Great job, thx a lot for showing! :-D
