This ride on lawn mower is rusty and rotten. It has been left in an open fronted shed for decades. The engine won't turn over and the whole thing looks like it's ready to be scrapped. Will it run?
Thank you to my Patrons

Great job, looks like new and ready for 40 more years - now we wait for you to restore the rest of the mower. 😊
No doubt; in 5 yrs there won't be anything left except that beautiful new engine. God bless.
2 videos? One is already exciting enough! Thanks Dag!
The other is a more condensed version of this video :)
@@MachineryRestorer still going to watch them both lol 🤷🏻♂️

Watching old engines being rebuilt is time well spent. Wonder how long before we lose this kind of knowledge. So little is passed down. Keep up the amazing work on the engine rebuilds, and inspiring others to learn this as well.
I have a 1973 Wheel horse 14A. Stumbling around looking for videos on Wheel Horses, found this. Start watching and notice, holy crap this is Daggerwin!!
So much better when you talk and explain what your doing... Love this. I'm a fan now.
I really enjoy watching engine rebuilds, it’s so satisfying seeing something restored to it’s former glory. Job very well done. 👍
These model is quite common here in the us Definitely hoping for a full on restoration of this Tractor seems how you were able to get the engine running
M9 Ms hlñ3
@RETIRED IN GEORGIA Vermont And I’ve seen quite a few of these style of wheelhorse mowers with the black top hood
Get it running? I'd say restored perfectly to factory design specs. Amazing! Flawless! Keep going!
Seems to run great, and the engine looks terrific. With that much work already into it, I think you should go ahead with a full resto.
Not sure if intentional, but I really enjoyed the hybrid of voiced narration and text narration. I felt there was a happy balance between them.
I agree and no music always great videos..
These videos make my day. You have a great talent and the way you present the videos makes me feel like I am right there with you. Thank you.
There is something really inspiring watching a bloke is his shed (IN HIS NATURAL HABITAT ) working and rebuilding a ride on lawn mower. It brings back fond memories of my Dad teaching me how things work when I was a kid. I have a ride on barn find that I am so looking forward restoring, unfortunately I am a shed orphan at the moment, but not for much longer.... I have a plan. 💸💲💲💡
I love these engine rebuilds...my Briggs 11hp will never die...
Usually I don’t watch videos this long but you keep doing stuff and making it more interesting. Good job man👍
I have this same engine on a 1993 craftsman mower and I love it . Installed a new carb and coil last year and it runs like new . You somehow have turned a boat anchor into a work of art . Good work , love your videos
Enjoyable ! Nice watching someone who has the know-how and tools to make the right repairs ... thanks for this
Absolutely exceptional work. Very good demonstration of the value of cylinder leakdown testing as a diagnostic tool. Excellent attention to detail; no corner cutting; proper use of tools. Everything very well done in this well produced video. I'm glad you could save that old Briggs and Stratton engine. With care it will last a very long time. If I had the right muffler, I'd send it to you right away. Sorry I dont have it. That beautifully rebuilt engine deserves a nice piece of equipment to power. Hope you restore the old Wheelhorse. Regards and emphatic thumbs up from the USA.
Great video! Please show the deck restoration and the mowers panels. This is fun to watch and very instructional! Thank you
I probably would have had that muffler a couple months ago. I'll look around I may have another. Great job excellent detail!!! Masterful in action. Later...
I hope you consider restoring the entire mower one day, just something about this style mower I love
Great job! I really enjoyed this engine rebuild. That is practically a brand new engine now. I have 7 wheelhorse tractors that I have restored and all of mine have Kohler engines, so it was nice to see a B&S engine rebuild.
I have two with a onan engine and a kawasaki
Always great videos love it how you balance text, voice and no music.. more I watch the more I learn from you.. Hope you finish restoring this..
Its so cheeky of you to hide youre face like that !😂😂
Man, Dagger, if I lived in the U.K. I would definitely have you rebuild my engine. You do such an amazing job. Love all of these vids
I love the 2 video drop. One I can run in the background while working, and one for my weekend with your narration.
The Red Neck Amazing work looks like new and ready for 40 more years - now we wait for you to restore the rest of the mower
Over two hours of Machinery Restorer today! And it's not even my birthday!
😂
When you will restore the rest of the mower it will look so nice! good work Dag.
At the risk of backseating, I'd like to suggest something like an impact screwdriver for stuck screws and bolts. The kind that you hit with a hammer and it turns upon hit. Would save some time and effort procuring new spares.
As a teenager I had a craftsman mower like this that I got and rebuild ended up have a rod come loose never could get the fly wheel off to take it any farther apart. I have learned soo much watching these videos.
...это же газонокосилка, если я не ошибаюсь!-, отличная получилась реставрация, выглядит как будто новая, молодец парень, дай бог тебе здоровья и благополучия, новых творческих успехов 👍👍👍😜😉🤔!!!
Nice job! Enjoyed the start to finish steps. Would love to see the deck and and mower frame restored. Thanks for the video!
Those opposed twins from BS are probably my favourite small engine...Silky smooth and quiet. thanks for the video.
I'm really glad I found your channel; no music, cussing, nonsense etc, and I'm always learning. *God bless.* Btw; I don't know about everyone else, but next to seeing these worn out engines come back to life and fire for the 1st time, I could just sit and watch carbon/paint being blown off by the sandblaster.
My late dad had the garden tractor version of this Wheel Horse which was manufactured just before Toro retired the famous Wheel Horse name forever. Same dash, same controls, same sound, just bigger. We mowed a State of Maine lawn and large field with it for years without complaint. And it was extremely reliable. Alas, it could not match the quality, smooth performance, and power of Dad's previous 1980's Troy-Bilt tractor. But he could no longer reliably get parts after the original Vermont-based Troy-Bilt went belly up. A sad ending to a great company.
I cant imagine the work that went into these two videos, I really like the one AMSR one talking approach. Especially so when they cover some slightly different ground as is the case here. There’s an art restorer called Julian Baumgartner in Chicago and he does the same with all his videos and I always watch both. Congratulations on the 200k, I’ve only just noticed. It’s much deserved, in fact as one of the most educational channels you’re undersubscribed.
Excellent, just found your videos. I'm completely ignorant with machines, so I found this fascinating, thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Daggerwin I have been watching you for over 3 years and y have learnt me so much thank you so much for the great vids
my 1990 Toro Wheel Horse 520H is still running strong! It has a 20hp Onan engine and hydrostatic drive, 52" tripple blade deck. I hang a 48" duel stage snow blower on it in the Idaho winters, and it mows a 3/4 acre lawn all summer! this little unit is definately worth resurrection.
Putting that pretty engine on the rest of the tractor is like sprinkling glitter on a turd. 😁 Now you gotta restore it.
is that a brand new sentence "Putting that pretty engine on the rest of the tractor is like sprinkling glitter on a turd. "
That "ting" when you remove valve spring installation tool in a lot of your videos is quality art appreciate it
A masterpiece of restoration, well done that man.
Nice job. The detail of the different aspects of this rebuild are excellent.
The problem with this guy's videos is that they make me want to do this now. Need some special tools though. Definitely don't have a valve spring compressor for small engines, and a piston ring compressor for small engines (mine are for diesel engines) and I lost my valve lapping tool someplace since I retired. I think I'm going to play with this now. So glad I found this channel. It's definitely inspired me to play around with something new. 😎
Your on screen captions are pretty good at anticipating questions;)
Love watching your process of restoring these. I try to take some tips for my classic car restoration project.
Oh and I am following through with this because of watching and learning from you so I owe you a thank you. 😊
I was surprised to see a Wheel Horse. I'm unsure of their history but in 1958 my dad bought an RJ58 Wheel Horse for our rural Pittsburgh homestead. It had the single cylinder Kohler engine, 3 speed transmission. We used the heck out of that and it performed like a champ. Sold it to a neighbor in 73 when my mom had to sell the homestead after my dad passed away. Don't know its fate. There are numerous pictures of Wheel Horse tractors and collectors on Pinterest. I've saved many in a file. Brings back good memories of the breed. Ours had the larger rear wheels though over the years of their production they obviously changed with later generations. Yours was the only one of that style and design I've seen. Hoping you will do a later video of a full restoration of it! Nice motor rebuild!
TWO UPLOADS IN ONE DAY?! amazing
It's the same build. One is just the shorter version of the video.
Powder coated finishes are beautiful
Great Job, I really like the Briggs 2 cylinder models It is such a smooth engine when under load. I have an old Snapper LT16 That is fun to work! Look forward to the next one!
Excellent presentation and restoration. I’ve encountered that muffler before. Didn’t rattle that bad yet but when it does I’ll drill two holes for two screws then with a size smaller drill. I’ll drill into the internal baffle that’s rattling. Then put two sheet metal screws thru the outside holes and catch the baffle holes with the threads on the screws and tighten till the baffle is silent.
Two videos? Epic!
Me just know realizing that this is daggerwin
yep
wait is it really??
I started the video and went wait a minute, I recognized that voice and went to check but sure enought it was him.
@@jacobk75 lol wow
No way I never relized !!
This is amazing. My friend is getting into the business of restoring lawn tractors. A lot of work but looks fun.
Another great video! If I can make one suggestion? For those parts you need to spray on both sides hang them from thin wire strung between a frame. Keep up the great work 👍👍
I got the exact same oppie on my simplicity and muffler, love these old oppies, plus have a few of them ready for swap if needed, thx's for this outstanding video! 🔧🔧🔧🔧🔧
Great job on the rebuild and video. Thanks for sharing brother.
New to the channel and enjoy it very much. Just finished watching the Kubota B2100 rebuild. Well done! Boca Raton, Florida
Amazing work. Loved every minute of the video. You have exceptional talent my friend. I have been binge watching your farm sim videos and just stumbled accross this channel. Both these channels are brilliant. Keep up the good work pal. Cheers.
Brilliant video Dagwin, thank you!
looks like a brand new engine ,that cool how you work on it and make it look and sound like a new engine
Nice those old wheel horses never die haha I just resurrected my old cub cadet with opposed twin Briggs
As soon as you said B&S engine I knew it'd run, they're built to last Fantastic video, I love the voice over videos
The right tools and equipment makes a job like this alot easier!!!!.
$1000 motor for a $10 mower! Great video man! Keep them coming!
That Wheelhorse is built tractor tough, and with the engine rebuild it will service for years! I think you missed the point of the video , your probably a electric mower type man?
@@kevinellsworth9318 not at all, the tone I take when I’m speaking isn’t conveyed in writing. I was trying to be funny. I think it’s cool. I’m the kind of person that puts a $10,000 engine in a $500 beater. The look on people’s face when a pos Chevy leaves a Porsche in the dust at a traffic light is priceless. I get the same vibe here, the outside doesn’t tell the whole story, I just did a bad job articulating my point. I like what he did I think it’s cool. I also found it funny.
@@davidcoombs1874 cool!
Great vid, good to see it roar into life, as for the pipe just Cut it open, rip out the mesh and just replace it with silencer wadding, weld it shut 👌
Good job pal thanks for sharing 😊👍
Good old Stratton engine's easy to work on and repair. What a fantastic video 📹
Always look forward to your videos!👍 Just wondering if that sanding/levelling of the head and cylinder raises the compression to any degree? Keep up the good work!
Шикарное видео. И все видео шикарные. Всегда под них ужинаю.
Before I saw this video, I watched the separate rebuild video and had commented that I would have re-cut one of the valve seats to get a better matting between the one new valve and the valve seat. Lapping showed one seat had likely double optimum mating - something usually corrected by re-cutting the top and bottom seat angles. I think that explains the less-than-optimum but acceptable reading on cylinder #1.
Been a fan of your Farm sim videos for many years love the restorations as well!! Cheers!!
I learn alot from these videos , keep them coming.
you might not believe this but i have that exact engine on a 1984 huskee 4 speed tractor and i haven't seen anything close to it online until now. perty much identical accept yours is 2 years older with 2 less HP. if your interested in some pictures let me know. its quite amazing how i had to do similar things to mine as yours. i took in on its first ride about a week ago with success. thanks for the video!
I've been watching this channel for sometime now and a channel called Daggerwin for even longer. Just realized it's the same guy. Amazing!
Thanks for posting all of it lol I just got done with my 1993 Murray with the same motor , the motor is great but not going to do much with the body or deck , my grandkids love riding it on our trails it also sets high up , I bought it for 60 bucks and I had to and put 140 back in fixing it up ,, I have a small shop nothing like yours but I enjoy doing this and learning more all the time , just got done with two cub cadets and traded them for a older yamaha timber wolf 1995 , I got it running good but will have to replace tires for sure , but thanks for the detailed post
Great engine rebuild and restore. Seems like a very large engine for such a small yard tractor... But, it is what it is.
You did an excellent job on rebuilding the engine. I was impressed. Do you plan on restoring the rest of the mower I mean clean it and paint it? I would like to see the restore of the rest of the machine if possible. Done a good bit of fixing and restoring things in the past so enjoy watching. Thanks for the interesting time.
That turned out beautifully!
Nice job. Clean work 👍
Please do a full restoration! Please! We would love to see it!!
May I suggest a shake and break for stuck screw removal? Works great for me. Classic British accent adds class to you videos.
all ways a pleasure to see your videos ;)
I did not know these went to the UK. I see these in America all the time.
Awsome job! Both restauration and making the video!
can’t wait to see the rest of the mower be restored!
anything restored is like 100% better than what comes out today
I had a few things with sludge like that its just old fuel from what i know and acetone dissolves it really nicely
Thank you for saving the mower and that sweet opposed twin briggs and stratton engine toro wheel horse mower,s of that age are classic mowers
The air leaking out of the oil fill sounded like someone the nastiest bong rip.
Great job man! I really enjoy the 1hr videos I wish more creators did that
I do not own a farm or any land but after your videos I always have an urge to go and buy an old ride on mower :)
Thank you for a french subtitles. You're best 🙂
I owned a Wheel horse many years ago. Now it's large 60" cut Husqvarna ZTR that is 20 years old, i just had to replace the clutch assembly due to a failing bearing. That clutch assembly is about the size of the front wheel on that rider in the video....
Nice engine rebuild! Now you need to do the actual lawn mower chassis the same way and post that video as well. Thumbs Up! Been there and done the exact same things to an older lawn mower.
Excellent work ❤
i would really like to see a proper video on how you powder coat your parts, to tools required and what we would need to do this ourselves. love thesae videos.
Excellent video and rebuilt motor went 👌 also super nice also hope hear running when get newer muffler for it! Surprise me made 2 cylinder motor 16 hp Briggs and Stratton to that wild for sure!
this takes me back to around 1973, my dad bought one of these to maintain our acre yard. kudos! be well & thrive, ©¿~salli
Nice job restoring dagerwin
