She literally went to each one and whispered "You have a lot of mental problems, look how you sit, its not normal and You need to get mental help asap." .... amazing...

    • Unless you have 10-pound testicles, your legs have enough space in between them to accommodate your balls when the legs are pointing forward. The reason men (and women) spread their legs is because it requires extra energy to keep their legs tight and forward, therefore making the relaxed state of "manspreading" feel more comfortable. Still, manspread as you please. Don't let people tell you what to do. (Unless people need a seat. They need space.)

Also, I quite literally have to face my body away from people because I have a condition where one of the issues is that my head is always turned to the right. It's very hard and painful for me to turn my head to the left or look directly forward. It's not because I'm rude or disinterested. Sorry that my disability makes me look like an asshole.

    @ThunderWingPony@ThunderWingPony6 жыл бұрын
    • If you have medical issues it's obvious that people with medical conditions will likely not fit many of these things, and that they don't apply to you. Hell it's not even that accurate at describing anyone period.

      @HiddenRealm@HiddenRealm6 жыл бұрын
    • Hidden haha yeah, I know. I just find this whole video to be completely ridiculous. I'm just pointing out the flaws with their logic and that no two people are the same. For instance, they said that people are lying if they don't hold eye contact. A lot of the time, people who have anxiety have a hard time with the whole eye contact thing. I know I do. I use to be bullied for staring at people too long and now I can't look into people's eyes for more than a few seconds without getting self conscious (I didn't do the staring on purpose, I just use to have a lot of minor seizures. Not the kind of seizures people usually think of when they hear the word. It was just a little blip in my brain that caused me to stare off into space, then get really tired. It was really no big deal). So yes, I was just trying to prove a point. I'm not trying to cause a problem here. Sorry if it seemed like I was. My last sentence of that previous comment may have been a little asshole-ish. Sorry about that.

      @ThunderWingPony@ThunderWingPony6 жыл бұрын
    • ... No need to get offended over standard body language generalizations. These obviously don't apply to everyone (men in wheelchairs won't "manspread" no matter how dominant and assertive they are). Body language is a science, and like any science there are inconsistencies and outliers. The video is (relatively accurately) explaining the subconscious habits of our body language and what they tell us about people. It's that simple, and no one is calling you an asshole because your neck points at an angle.

    • +vincent padron Many Americans get angry or defensive when it is pointed out that they are being typically American. Resorting to the intellectual equivalent of "Not all _____" On the other hand "That is so ______" can be a compliment to people of many countries around the world. This implies that most Americans hold a very negative view of what it means to be a typical American. Some just do it consciously, while others do it subconsciously. Because of this divide, there are two ways that Americans deal with these negative feelings. Guilt, which expresses itself in overly heavy criticism of the US in an attempt to disassociate yourself from the bad things that the US does. Denial, which often ends up with them working very hard to associate America with something positive to prove their superiority. It is amusing to see those two groups interact, because they deeply despise each other. Contrast "USA is the best country in the world." with "It's pretty good to be _____" the second phrase points to a mindset which is ready and willing to admit nice things about other countries.

  • This is a HUGE generalization Male, 19 years old I'd like to say, I "manspread" because it's the only way I sit. Ever. Not to be dominant in anyway, since I'm shy and introverted. Conversely, I believe the way people sit has a direct connection to the way men's and women's pelvic bones are shaped, and for most, it's not a conscious thought on how you position your legs when sitting down, either. This video is like: "Now typically is the southern regions of Italy, when the left leg is crossed over the right leg and the ankle of the crossed leg meets at approximately a 33.6 degree angle, this indicates..." - ENOUGH Secondly, finger drumming has an entirely different application to me because I'm an actual drummer. I play drums on a drum set. I've been finger tapping or drumming since I was 4 years old and it has nothing to do with being frustrated or impatient. I do the same with my feet actually, and I had a girl ask me if I was a tap dancer in school. Which I'm not, but I might be good at it honestly. I could go on about the body position, like your chest being an arrow... What if you are having a conversation with more than a few people? Are you supposed to turn your whole body every time another person speaks to physically show engagement and interest in the conversation? That would be absurd and you would be perceived as if you had a social awkwardness or something. This video is pretty useless and I hope it's not being taken seriously. And I'll stop here since this is getting long winded and it's a common fact most youtube commenters have an attention span of a walnut, and will never make it to this point anyway. Thanks for reading, don't be a stranger that stares at me on the subway.

      @HiddenRealm@HiddenRealm6 жыл бұрын
    • Nope, my point is, that if it's going to happen, it could be anywhere, it's just your way of life, would you take a walk at 4am at an anarchist ghetto? I wouldn't, and i don't, no problems so far, never got stolen or anything. If you were able to think mathematically ,in my country of ~11 million people + summer tourist almost ~10 million and the rape cases would only be ~80 and consider the 50-50 of men and women accounted, out of 10.5 million women ~80 might be raped, now compare this to any other country, having in mind 80% of them are fake.

  • I can firmly guarantee that the leg movements of men don't dictate their personality its just a symptom of how their legs are built or what they did that day. If you ride a bike your not going to want to sit with your legs closed you might spread them its not a god damn science my best friend commonly sits with his legs " man spreading " and he is the most passive and shy person on the planet " a little bit of a push over" and as you can tell i'm a jerk I sit in all three ways equally this dose not mean I have some sort of multipersonality disorder. To fuck with it, it just means that I had a rough day or my legs are fat. pick one.

    @ferggerman@ferggerman7 жыл бұрын
    • +Ferggerman i think someone commented about the "manspreading" thing. i'm not a dude so i'm not gonna say it means one or the other, but they said that they believed the video was referring to not normal spreading to allieve your nuts getting crushed, but rather when some men take up two seats. to quote the person directly, they added," Usually, it should be enough to spread as wide as your shoulder. Anything wider and you are overdoing it." but idk. this video was pretty vague. body language is really cool if you're SPECIFIC about what you're pointing out and when.

  • Notice how all the male leg positions were negative; dominating and self engrandising; closed natured; or argumentative and smug. While female leg positions, had a strong "power position", and were compared to a mythical chreature know for its beauty, perhaps a little biased when you consider leg positioning is always dependent on personal comfort.

    @CarrotSuprise@CarrotSuprise7 жыл бұрын
    • The manspreading it's something that we do to stay comfortable because we need space under there, it's not anything like "dominance". Also, i saw so many girl that tends to spread their legs while sitting on a chair. What we should call that? "sluttyness"?

    • They are not being serious. But you did exactly what they do, you just backed up their point. People have been hating on "ManSpreading" because it's supposed to show "Dominance". That's wrong and whoever started that rumor should do some more research. They do it because they have very sensitive external organs in-between their legs and when their knees are pushed together or crossed it crushes them and hurts quite a lot. If you're a girl, put your thumbs on either side of your breast and squeeze. It most likely hurts more than that but it's a good way to imagine and understand it a bit better. They are just making an example of what people are saying about it. You completely proved their point with how stupid it is. You said that it's more comfortable to sit like that, Men are forced to sit like that because of their parts. Under no circumstance should either gender be shamed about it. In the end, it's just how we sit, it's just a small everyday thing in your life that should not be such a big deal. Sorry for such a long comment, I'm just really frustrated with all these comments about how it's wrong and how this is a way for men to oppress women. I'm a girl and understand it is totally okay for men to do it. It's just a minuscule part of the day.

  • You can tell how much a woman likes you by how she positions her feet. If they're in the crossed at the ankles position, she's not that into you. If they're positioned slightly apart, she's comfortable with you. If they're positioned behind her ears, she really likes you!

  • The thing about body language is that it is culturally specific, most of these generalizations are true for the U.S. in broad terms and some apply to Western European cultures, but not all. A good example is crossing the arms, depending on the rest of the person's posture it can denote other meanings and frequently people with neck or spinal injuries and some neuro-muscular disorders have their arms cross to relieve pressure from the injured area. In some of the Asian cultures the crossed leg with the foot pointed out or to the side can be construed as an insult as you are pointing the lowest part of your body toward another person. In several cultures direct eye contact is considered rude. Again most of these are U.S. centric and not even a true representation of just the regional diversity within the U.S.

  • As a cashier for many years a memorable pet peeve I had was the finger drumming from those who were impatient, i always interpreted it as rude. Anyway i found meeting it with assertive eye contact and body language totally stopped it every time 😂😂😂

    • Well that's because the part was so gringy. For women, i will explain that when a man is "man spreading" he does this without noticing. That's because we have balls in the middle that feel more comfortable in the "man spreading" position

  • The key when reading any body language or nonverbal communication is to first know a person's baseline behavior and to be mindful of the context. There are a lot of generalizations when it comes to interpreting body language and although there is truth to them, baseline and context, can make or mislead the interpretation.

    • I see I'm not the only one who stopped to go to the comments once that part came up. I would say it's more of a relaxation than a thing of dominance. I'm usually the fool people go to if they need someone to get something done. Shit, I'll usually go making food and grabbing things for people, so long as I'm not too busy. You see, when you have balls, you need to give those things some air and try not to accidentally kill one. Usually it's either the crossed legs or spreading in sitting down for this. The thing about crossed legs is that it exposes less crotch, so people assume less of it, but it's nowhere near as relaxed as spreading. Besides that, spreading is less effort to get up and has less likelihood of those scenarios where your ankle is bothered from being up for so long. It's not all that symbolic, it's just aesthetics and practicalities.

    • Body language isn't a written language where all people with functional eyes could see them. Reading it takes a lot of body readings, and it's useful to see hidden messages. You guys seeing how your body language is actually funny. We're talking about indirect communication (body language) and how to read it. First thing first is, who are you talking to when you're writing that? The computer? Crossing arms is sign of close minded people and it's true for the most part except if you're cold or something.
