Ellen Degeneres' Tips To Making People Instantly Like You
Discover The 4 Emotions You Need To Make a Killer First Impression:
bit.ly/2nWBHVU
We all want people to like us. And Ellen Degeneres seems to have that down to a science.
Ellen Degeneres is one of the most likable hosts on TV. And it’s largely due to the types of jokes that she makes. Almost all hosts are funny, but Ellen’s style of comedy has a way of instantly endearing her guests to her.
Today we are going to talk about the most common types of jokes that Ellen makes, how you can use them to get people to immediately like you, and some habits that you can work on to just generally be funnier throughout your day.
1:10 - The kind of jokes that make people sad, ones that Ellen rarely makes
2:08 - Self-deprecating jokes make people feel comfortable around Ellen
3:10 - Poking fun at subjects that people are not insecure about allows Ellen to crack jokes without upsetting people
5:20 - Making ego boosting jokes that make other people feel good, makes Ellen someone that people want to spend more time with
5:59 - Ellen can also joke around and just simply be silly

    • Everybody should do and be the exact same thing. All women should have long hair and all men should have muscles. If that doesn't happen, they are lesser people and should be made fun of and also some of their human rights should be revoked. Appearance is everything, let's all judge each other based on how we look, the world will improve ten fold. People who look different should hate themselves and feel bad. Women with short hair and masculine clothes hold no human value whatsoever and also let's all assume they don't have feelings. Men who are feminine don't deserve to live. Yeah, no. Have some empathy and realise not everyone is the same as you.

    • It really depends on how it is done: a slight jab at a bad habit you have will make most people laugh, especially if you have a broad grin to support it. On the other hand, frequent jokes about health and personal issues with no sign of happiness would seem like you are being down on yourself.

  • I think Ellen is great but I would be careful with using self deprecating humor. It can lead to an increase in low self esteem and potentially make some people look down on you. I do think the world needs more silliness though.

    @theoriginalThud@theoriginalThud5 жыл бұрын
    • You have to be strong enough to withstand that. I'm a restaurant manager and I use it to put employees at ease. But you are right it an backfire. I used it once and a coworker told me I need to stop putting myself down. She didn't get that it was humor or why I use it. People in authority can usually get away with it successfully. A homeless person or jail inmate probably should not try it.

Keep a balance as when and where to crack the jokes so u keep being taken seriously, and don't insult anyone with ur jokes

That is, sit in a classroom, learn the mechanics behind being funny, and then take tests to determine your grasp of the subject? I don't think there's a community college anywhere that offers a course like that!

    • Jo Jo there's a difference between self-depreciation & making jokes about others (Leno, Fallon, & all other nighttime talk show hosts do this in their monologues). I believe you may be confused regarding the definition of self-depreciating? It is "the act of reprimanding oneself by belittling, undervaluing, or disparaging oneself, or being excessively modest. It can be used in humor and tension release." Those who have watched Conan O'Brien know he constantly made, & to this day, makes fun of himself. He's the best at it & the funniest.

      @SeeBillyRun@SeeBillyRun7 жыл бұрын
    • Jo Jo What happened between Leno & O'Brien, being "mean", & any other sidebar you bring up is irrelevant to my original comment regarding self-depreciation. I stated my opinion: O'Brien is funnier than Degeneres at self-deprecation. Once again, to self-depreciate is to make fun of oneself. It has nothing to do with making fun of others. I don't know why you keep reverting to your "he's mean"; so that negates his ability to make fun of himself argument; the two styles are not mutually exclusive. Lastly, it has nothing to do with my original comment. I never wrote that O'Brien is the nicest host; so that's why I provided you with the definition to the specific term of self-depreciation. I did not explain comedy to you. Have a great day :)

    • No, not at all. When as a morose and grumpy adolescent someone told me : 'Its OK to be miserable and negative because its easy to be morose and miserable. Just remember no one is going to like, even less love you for it. YOU control YOU. These are YOUR moods that YOU chose to adopt. Stop being a victim of your age/hormones. There is a cheerful you in there and that's the one we love, can we have him back please?' Being cheerful and happy when you dont actually feel happy is absolutely NOT being hypocritical or lying. Its driving yourself to where you want to be. If you are in a negative mood and are letting everyone know then you have chosen to be a victim and decided to punish everyone else for your own laziness.

    • Yeah, I worked for a woman who was dragon lady one, then brilliant the other. Her establishment is wildly successful and renowned in the region for its industry. She had a department manager who emulated all her dragon examples but he lacked brilliance. He was merely a douche copying someone who did things naturally.

    • He said nothing about copying her, all that was talked about was a few loose guidlines that the vast majority of people can follow.

  • My humor is that self deprecating humor but i also use insults as jokes though mainly with close friends so they know I'm joking and even then its usually making fun of my own personality traits because I can get very jealous over certain things. For example If a friend got something I wanted i'd say i hate you but in a different way.

  • Can you do a video about repairing broken relationships with co-workers, family, friends? How can a person get back to being more likable if they’ve made mistakes in the past? Said something in confidence that a person they’ve trusted by mistake has repeated or perhaps that someone has repeated something they’ve said out of context. Thanks for all you do I get a lot out of your videos.
