It's quite sad how slow an ashvelte Kart is. Our local ashvelt kart group to a race day (Grass karts) and we destroyed them. I recommend giving it some gears
Perfect 👍🏻
The effort put into artificially aging the kart is magnificent. 😉
does it matter
wow
I thought it was a little too shiny when he was pulling parts off.
100% agree.
@@victorzimmerman2248 Yes actually it does matter, because if it was truly aged he wouldn't be restoring he'd be replacing shit. Those bearings would be completely locked
Would have loved to see that beautiful old 2 stroke engine restored as well
People always use these vertical shaft engines when they aren’t made for speed. There are 4 speed semi auto engines for cheaper and are definitely faster
That's not really that old of an engine or kart. It just has mud rubbed all over it.
@@worldssickestmedia2713 It's probably 30 years old
@@youbannedmealready5825 it's got vented rotors and hydraulic disk brakes. It's got modern Bridgestone tires. When he pulled the back wheels off the purple anodized aluminum hubs were still nice and bright. Anodized aluminum parts fade. Especially purple and red anodizing. The fiberglass parts aren't old, dried and splintered. The clear plastic material they use to make the fuel tanks usually gets a dirty yellow brittle tint to it it after about 10 years. The engine looks to be an air cooled IAME motor that's still in use today. That and I've never seen a road racing cart ever in the history of everything with mud all over it. Ever. Those karts are 2" off the ground and have slick tires. You can't get a road race kart to go in a grass field. Much less mud. I own an engine shop that specializes in two stroke race karts and motocross engines. I also hot rod Stihl and Husqvarna chainsaws for people in the logging industry. It's an older cart that's been sitting up for a while and someone rubbed mud all over it to make this video. That's one thing I know for 100% certain. They rubbed mud all over it. And if you do want a vintage 2 stroke engine restored. Get in touch with Absolute Engine Solutions in beautiful Lake Lanier Ga and I'll get ya hooked right up.

its amazing how the dirt and grime is spread perfectly evenly across go kart

What a miracle that none of the aluminium parts on this 'abandoned kart' are even pitted. Amazing that they also still have the residue from the price stickers on some of the parts. Good to know you can take a perfectly good kart, cover it in mud and surface rust the video yourself cleaning it and pretend you've restored it and bingo.... few hundred thousand views 😂😂
Nailed it! These videos are just click bait.
yes it's because people are brainless and will believe anything🤣😂🤣😂
Yep, a mixture of vinegar, salt, and hydrogen peroxide will get that rust look easily. Notice none of his videos ever show any pitting from the rust.....you know, like all rust does.

Thought the same damn thing. Just a kid and a camera at this point
Loved how shiny new clean the throttle body was at 4:29....not a bit of carbon on there! Wow.
You do realise the kart was artificially aged right? he reversed the video. also this is not how corrosion looks like. its practically impossible to restore anything withotu replacing all parts.
@@faziolifairmont8125 thats the point of the comment
Parabéns pelo trabalho...... Excelente serviço.....!!! Ficou especular......!!!
Wow! That go kart so well protected when ‘abandoned’ that even the fabric on the seat was totally fine and there were no flats spots or cracks in those perfectly preserved tyres!
That’s exactly where I call bs when I saw the tires
im so glad im seeing comments like this...smh. the aluminum parts were still brand new looking, and the rust was already coming off with a plastic wire brush lol.... im sure we all have seen how equipment really looks after sitting outside after only a couple years if not 20 years

The only bad thing is you replaced that racing engine with a garden roto-tiller engine that is much slower. You should install a clutch on the engine to make user friendly.

It really bothered me that they ditched the 100cc. Those engines are FANTASTIC.

Truly worthwhile video. Awesome and good for you. Where or how did you find this little gem?
I was completely and thoroughly engaged in this restoration until 31:49. Then you lost me. Can't believe you would replace that beautiful old 2 stroke powerplant with a rototiller engine. This go kart deserves better.
And he put it back together dry, no oil or grease was used!
Yep, I thought the exact same thing.
My words and thoughts exactly. What a waste!!!!
not to mention the caster and such wasnt set at all on the front end, i own one myself and haVE THE YAMAHA KT100 ON MINE THING RIPS

I rebuilt an old race kart last year. It was a fun project. Mine is a good 20-30 years older than this one. Yours looks like you covered a good kart in mud and just let it sit outside for a few months.
If your kart is 30 years older than this then yours was made in the 60’s
@@assumingone4366 80s
@@assumingone4366 what?? Its 2022 so it would be 2002-1992
@Jadyn Farrell The video was made in 2022 but the description says the kart itself was made in the 2000s. That could be any year between 2000 and 2009. Definitely put his kart somewhere between 1970 or 1980
Bc that's exactly what he did lol.
What type of dirt did you use,? Was that the hobby dirt from bags purchased locally or was that the new Amazon dirt shipped next day? It sure did come off easily. Great spray work.
Que pena pensei que íamos ver o bom e velho 2T em ação mas ficou muito boa a restauração 👍
Very nice. It would be very interesting to see, how the preparation of the objects takes place for these kind of videos. Which solution (probably something with mud and salt) is used to prepare the objects, so that they look as if they need restoration so desperately? How long does it take, until the solution does it's job? Oh, and one suggestion: also apply the solution to the threads. It always destroys the overall impression, when a nut is removed and a new and shiny thread becomes visible.
Agreed, WD 40 isn't that good at loosening rusted nuts and bolts!!
kzhead.info/sun/mdOTaJWKqpamdHk/bejne.html
Exactly. It only needs a jetwash and it would look good again. But, I must get some of that asian wd40 as it works better than the rest of the world stuff. They think the rest of the world is thick to think something like that has been sitting for many years in all weathers and finally getting restored.
You can get this type of rust in just a few days with vinegar, salt, and hydrogen peroxide.
How far in advanced did you spray on the salt and mud, just to clean it off.
I don't get why so many "restoration" channels do this... there is so much old crap out there to restore for real. You can tell from the exhaust pipe that a leaky corrosive substance was sprayed. Probably some sort of peroxide solution. You nailed it.
@@TheJimCramer Because it'd take much more work to "restore" it. They'd have pitted metal from the rust and you'd have to do some major grinding or bondo to get an actual rusted item back to the way it was new.
even the nut and bolts dont corrode
Cause they can't rebuild shit only Clean.
Great job sir. God Bless.
What cleaning solutions did you use? Everything from removing dirt, grime, & rust. So amazing!
Mind you it's easy to remove the rust and grime when the kart hasn't actually aged that long. The kart in the video has been artificially aged but all the hidden parts look amazingly clean. Should give away weŕe not watching a skilled restorer doing his magic.
man cleaning the frame really shows how much it really wasnt in very bad shape at all

I own an engine shop for small engines. Specialize in 2 strokes and never have I seen a road race kart with mud rubbed all over it. Maybe if you just wash the mud off it would be restored then.
lol the whole time I'm thinking...where's the power washer?
Worlds sickest, that's all you have to say.
Would be interesting to see what it was like if you had just pressure washed it. Close-ups showed what looked like an awful lot of the mud and dirt had been smeared on to make it look far worse than it really was. Also, many of the bolts you removed the threads were still shiny.
It does look suspicious, the surface rust and mud looks like it was put on purpose so it could look worse than it actually was, click bait
Yeah, this is typical Internet fluff …
You have to have the patience of Job to carry out a restoration like this. You are crazy!!
Well done. Beautiful transformation!
Don't be fooled. This is a nice Kali/CRG chassis (fairly recent judging by rear axle size as in within the last 25 years) with what looks like an IAME/Parilla rotary valve 2 stroke.direct drive setup, probably one of the mid/late '90s- 2000s Sudam 125cc engines. This isn't something that anyone with any sense would let get into the condition shown. Someone hosed this thing down with muddy salt water then let it sit outside and rot for months just to make this video, and to add insult to injury they installed 1/4 the horsepower by bolting on a junk lawnmower 4 stroke. Just sad.
you took the words out of my mouth. I died on the inside when they put that motor on there. Took the top speed down to 20 or 30mph as well as ruined the scream of that 2 stroke
@@jaredlinde590 I guess it's not completely safe to ride on a go cart with such big motor near your head
Yall when the 4 stroke went on it went down hill-- I can't see why anyone would run a 4-stroke back when I was racing (over 45 years ago) at the time a modified 4-stroke Briggs would cost about $1500 and a Yamaha KT 100S 100cc piston port was about $600 blue printed on the Yamaha you ran gas Briggs methanol on the Yamaha you adjust flex and differing gearing and that was it the Briggs you had cams, porting, valves, carburetor, clutch and the list goes on and it was no faster than the Yamaha.
That is infact a 12hp 390cc 4stroke engine. When set up right that engine will tun circles around the old motor. BUT I agree, he should have saved the old motor instead of replacing it with a modern motor.
I stand corrected, some of those 100cc racing engines can have as much as 25hp. That is insane. (did a quick google)
Wow for that amount of rust the bolts come out so smooth and easily almost like it was purposely rusted. Edit: I also just realized that the rusty missing paint spots on the chassie were sanded down lol

Imagine how fast this vintage go-kart with anodized parts would have cleaned up with a pressure washer at the beginning. However, that would have only lasted 3 minutes. I've also never seen someone dye sand red vs washing it away.
Think im gonna have to call horse crap. Noones going to leave a 5k racing kart outside long enough to "rust" and rust doesnt come off that easily.
on a cart like this you don't use a motor like that. you build one that is made for racing. that motor would get killed by other carts.

You learn so much from KZhead, you even learn a great deal from the comments section. Never knew how big the karting community is, so many comments about how the wear on this kart seems to have been artificially applied. Careful with what you put out lest you get called out
My son and I built one years ago from a 100cc bike engine, plastic canteen seat and older kart wheels and tyres. It drove great with good acceleration and cornering. I wrote off some seven and a half inch wide plastic slat chain on a job so we made some circles, let the rear tyres down, slipped the slats over and pumped up the tyres - BOY was that fun, it was like driving on ice, never had so many spins in my life! Eventually it got sold and moved to Robin Hoods Bay in the north of the uk, I often wonder where it finished up.
So much for an engine montage. Looks like it would be fun to ride.
You can restore the plastic bodywork quiet well using linseed oil and white spirit. There's a few videos on KZhead showing how to do this and that and new decals is probably the easiest way as they'll get knocked about pretty quickly. I'd suspect she'll need new bearings all round too.
It was a good restoration until you cleaned and sprayed the tyres. You should have problably changed that since they have several flat spots. You also welded the chassis that was already painted. The plastic could have been be fixed for scratches and damages. But the worse part is the engine swap. The original one deserved a restoration and changing it with a four-strokes one is causing a heart attack to a lot of people.
100%
he did. look, later, in the video. he uses brand new ones.
Not to mention it looks like he reused them damn brake pads...That made me mad because you should never reuse bad brake pads, it's dangeroous and practically a death wish waiting to happen.

Thanks for posting these videos. You have way more patience than me. When I do a racing kart restore, I have the frame hot tanked at NAPA Auto machine shop, $125. You are very thorough and more patience than most people. Great job and restore; my hat is off to you.
A few things make me suspicious this go kart was made in that condition for the purposes of shooting this video. After clean up you can see wear on areas that would never been worn if others are not also worn. The floor which is the most punished area is fine. Also no dents, bent areas on the chassis while paint is heavily chipped - by what may I ask? Doesn't look like a genuinely aged thing that was used.
was thinking the same thing. look like the dipped it mud over a weekend and to a flap disk to to paint to make it seem worn.... plus dose not matter how much wd40 you spray it you dont have clean threads it would take some wiggling

Ottimo lavoro. Complimenti per il restauro!
Nice work
Lil tip: Remove that sprocket off of the GX390's shaft, and put a centrifugal clutch there. The way the clutch works, is that when you start the engine, the kart won't move on its own, then, when you increase the RPM, the clutch kicks in and it starts to move. I've put them on all my mini motors like that, they are cheap and easy, and if you really want to put a dime in, you can get the gopowersports Juggernaut torque converter, i put it on my minibike and it works great!
I used to race Karts in the late 90s / early 2000s, and this took me back to those days. I raced Rotax Max 125cc. Not sure why you put a Honda engine on the kart at the end, but it was cool to see something from my era being restored - nice work :)
Because they can't fix engines LOL
Because they probably didnt have the equipment to start it

Гоночный карт отъездил своё время(1998-2004) и оказался на долгое время в какой-то ангаре. В дальнейшем его нашли и переработали в прокатный с вариаторной муфтой. Очень сильное отличие до и после.
