Workshop Diaries - From Season 2 Episode 2 "Can Laser beat Rust? Can you Cook a Steak With a Laser?": ...and a load of other stuff too. Well, when you have a 1000w laser in the workshop you might as well see what else you can do with it!
We got our power back on and the boys from Narran brought back another 1000w pulsed laser so we could finish cleaning John's rusty Range Rover chassis. But then we got a bit distracted and went a little off-piste trying the laser out on all kinds of things including steak and chips, egg on toast, popcorn, smores, and even a Cadbury's Creme Egg!

Really looking forward to some new content some day.
Be nice if we were told what's going on, rather than having vague attempts at posting old stuff dressed up as new. I did look forward to new episodes, but this is the first channel I have removed the notification from, and sadly - unsubscription if the wall of silence twinned with cropped and recycled content continues. This was a GOLD standard channel once.
@@ChishanFipz There was an announcement that new content is in the works, and that this was just temporary in the meantime. I don't recall exactly when it was made. I have to admit, I am getting very tired of this though.
It was posted about 3 weeks ago that they are hard at work on several new projects but no details given on when we might see new content, and in the meantime this stuff will be posted.

So if you use a galvanized chassis will the one you use have type approval.and what about chassis number.

Having seen Maximus Ironthumper restore his LWB landy chassis and had it hot-dipped too, there's not a lot of decision to be made really, cut out the rot, weld in fresh, and off for a dip, though this is moot cos it's all been done already... :P

Hello Edd I love your work you are excellent and Poul excellent work too, if it is within the economic possibilities and to expedite the restoration of the LR, a new Chassis is better, but if it has more value restoring it, apart from contributing content to the optaria channel for repairing the original chassis, I think it would be up to you what is best to contribute material to the channel!

No, don't scrap it,... yet! Maybe sideline it, and Paul's suggestion of a new galvanized frame is the smart choice , at this point. Maybe ( again ) repair this rusted chassis when you have spare time on your hands,... in about 42 years time. To 'bastardize' an old saying, "Time and RUST waits for no man! "

This depends on the year of the chassis, if it's a classic kept as it will have cheaper tax/insurance etc

It was only one cool idea after wheeler dealers. It's Garage revival. Why you left it?
FIX. The point is renovation. We are watching vicariously, imagining being able to do this too. True, most of us would be using a wire brush and naval jelly instead of the laser, but the dream is there. Not a rich man’s restoration, do one we would have to do. Don’t forget most of us are wage slaves with families.
Edd, if the goal is to keep the car as original as possible, & use it only on the highway, then do the repair. But, if Johns plan is to off road it, & use it for it's intended purpose, then I believe Pauls plan makes more sense, for the following reason. Even if you cut out & replace the rusted parts, can you guarantee the interior steel structure has not de-laminated in places, to the point of significantly weakening the chassis, making it unfit & possibly dangerous for John to use off road, which will inevitably lead to further water ingress & rusting, in which case, you'll be back to square one in no time. Whereas, the galvanised chassis makes more sense & will further extend the life of the vehicle. Love your channel, & hope this helps. Regards......Urban Geeze.

Its simple with life if you have money buy new if not then fix. I bet Edd and his team have money so obviously buy new.
# SCRAP Even though the areas that look bad to your eyes CAN be repaired, there are bound to be damaged, weak areas on the INSIDE of the frame that haven't been seen, and could ultimately compromise the very foundation of this vehicle. If this were a highly sought after, very rare car that you wanted to keep as original as possible to retain its value, I'd say repair for sure. But that's not the case here. Though it was an "age" ago, just remember what the solution was for the Morgan.
New chassis , there will be so much internal corrosion on that chassis .
Fair enough, but you say; as this will never be a concors charmer and really doesn't have any value other than to John himself, AND as the Britpart experts have said they're happy it is strong enough, we thought we would give it a go anyway and if John breaks it off-roading we can either chose to fix it again then or go for the replacement! Theoretically, on paper, the Morgan chassis swap would have taken longer to do but as we are already some way over the 150 hours mark we really must crack on soon!
Hey mate, appreciate you going for the shorter viewer, may i be so bold as to suggest splitting the larger eps in to ~8-18 min segments, publishing in both formats even?. Enough to be involved and interesting on one topic but short enough to watch between actually doing things.

Restorateion...
Scrap it and get a new frame. The effort will cost time and money for a part that even though large and an expensive part will never be as good as a new frame. Focus on the other bits and try and make a saving and restoration on the rest of the parts to recover time and effort on trying to revive a too damaged frame that should have been scrapped at the start of the restoration. Sell the frame as is to someone else that wants it and is willing to invest more time in to it for more money towards the new frame.
