This week I finally solve the mystery of why my Amazing Outspan Orange has been pulling to the right for so many years. It takes quite an investigation but eventually I find the cause of the problem.

There are now several reposts of old videos. The channel is good enough to have a pause if there is no new content but repeats are not great and break continuity.

Saw Ed thrashing his outspan mini as well as his crazy sofa complete with standard lamp years ago at Carlisle rally on the old airfield. Being a mini owner and enthusiast it was fantastic to see 👍🏻 I still have the photos of the genius wearing his flying goggles if I remember rightly

Not sure what is going on in your life at the moment, I hope whatever it is resolved you can come out the other side soon, understand during this period you may not be able to make new content, and need to reupload old consent to keep the KZhead algorithms happy, not asking for an explanation, you will explain if and when you are ready and you feel it is appropriate to, in the meantime maybe you could prefix reuploads as such.

Having learned that it's family health issues resulting in repeats, I'm not going to complain about seeing this one again, I quite like the Orange, it's so odd, but it's so cool too... :)

Using the 'spanner' on the end of the socket is genius!! This would allow you to use a ratchet in a confined space by spooling the action back with the spanner if the sprockets on the ratchet are wider then the amount of available space... very nice, also allows you to use a ratchet with no extension and have extra leverage with the wrench, also very nice... definitely going to look into buying, great stuff!
Had one occasion where a socket with flats would have been a lifesaver when removing an EGR valve and the socket was right against a coolant outlet casting. At the time I had to improvise and get leverage with a screwdriver bit pushed into the retaining ball detent.. far from ideal! 🤣
Great video. A year old so you probably have fixed it by now... I had exactly one of those front subframe "ears" bent after a crash. I bent it back but then it started to move back in again (hard braking probably does it) and I eventually replaced the subframe, not having the confidence to weld it at that time. When it was bent the car pulled constantly to one side as yours does. I think you can probably just cut the whole thing off, fabricate a new one, and weld it on without removing the subframe. Obviously safety critical so you need to get a good weld in there and if it doubt give up and take the subframe out!

Hi. Love your vids. My dad was a mechanic on a farm and I enjoyed repairing machinery as a child with him. Anyway as I grew up I took a different trade and now am a gas engineer, I repair gas boilers which isn't a long stretch from repairing cars. Difficult small areas to work in , but still do my own car repairs as well, anyway I like the gloves you wear. What make are they because I'd like to buy some as they look like they are easy to work with and have some feel in them, I know you prob get bombarded with questions but Iv tried so many gloves and none have really worked for me, great vids. Keep it up !
I'm not a gas engineer just a cider drinking West country man can't beat the old potterton stuff so much better than glow worm etc, I also work on my own cars

nice job Ed.......Question for you, is it a basic rule of thumb that with an electronic ignition set up, you should always change the coil to suit. I am referring to a classic mini set up, so from a 3 ohm coil to a 1.5 ohm unit ?
In the US those "tie rods" are called "strut rods." What you call steering rods we call tie rods.

Just 'found' your channel when YT recommended it to me. You N E E D to do a video on flux core welding.
Seem to remember that the rubber cones had different radius for different weight vehicles or front/rear

I'm surprised you didn't give that crud-laden subframe a pre-emptive hosing down before diving in. Or am I being excessively fastidious? Suspension misalignments tend to show up in uneven tyre wear. Was the mileage to low to generate that?

Edd, Seeing how that hole is no longer round but actually oval, why not just cut the entire mount off and just build a entire new one, gussets and all and weld it into the proper location? Appear to be fairly straightforward to me (but I’m also a race car fabricator with 40 years experience) that just looks like the simplest option to me?
I'm not even a fabricator but that's still what I'd be inclined to do, just on the principle of making it as right as I can.

Why the repeats?!
Juicing the KZhead algorithm prior to new uploads. If you have a lapse in content ... any lapse ... then it doesn't bother to push any new content to new users. It just pushes it to subs ... except when it doesn't, because sometimes they even stop doing that. The whole system sucks, but at least someone on his team understands how to play the game.

@@wanderer397 Someone started the rumor that Edd has family issues, now lots of people are repeating this rumor. As for keeping a KZhead algorithm happy why don't other KZhead channels re-post old footage ? The only explanation that I can think of is that Edd is milking KZhead for every penny he can.

I think it may be because it's a novelty vehicle that's not going to be doing a lot of miles. Perhaps the spring upgrade wasn't worth the hassle.🤔

The Orange is always good for a laugh, but it would have been even more satisfying if Edd was correcting the suspension geometry on that giant shopping trolley he made. Shopping trolleys are evil. I'm sure everyone's had that embarrassing moment in Sainsbury's when some guy's wobbly-wheeled wagon leaps sideways and slams into your backside.😲 What? You haven't? Oh. Just me, then. Perhaps he was trying to tell me something...

Those ball joints looked real loose (as they all were after a while) so surprised you never took the top off and removed a shim at tighten them up.
Didn't you have a hand in an upgrade for those rubber cones? It's been a few years so from dimory.
The ball joints need re shimming. I would have set the tie rod on the good side to the standard length before installing as a fixed point. Love the videos 🙂

This video has had its frame-rate converted to 24 frames per second. I find it unwatchable on my TV because the missing frames cause the picture skip at the missing frames.
We really need Mr Edd China back on TV doing a wheeler dealers type show just with out Mike there is a huge vacuum about people fixing cars but 100 show about idiots in a jungle or on a island come on Amazon get on it seeing as you are ending Clarkson's farm after season 3
I am 10 mins into the episode and it would seem to me that the mini was in an accident and that's the reason it became and orange... or the orange was in an accident and then they replaced the shell...

Car suspensions are such layers of potential failures, you can tell the design of suspensions in general changed slowly over time and not always by experts, but also by cost cutting, so you end up with bushings and rods and bolts and supports all depending on each other and just built up in layers, when the beauty of simplicity in something like an F1 torsion rod is just lost. All this rubber in an English climate? The engineers were told by the accountants to do it cheap and be sure it breaks so we can sell more parts down the line
NVH isn't a concern in F1, it is in road going vehicles. Sure, you could buid a car with all metal bushing but it would literally be undrivable for everyday use. Also we must not forget that when the Mini was designed the amount of readily available "rubbery" materials wasn't as vast as it is today.
