This kind of argument is useless. Do you know why? I will quote one of the G. O. A. T. ever. "The idea of the game becoming easier is totally wrong. If you think the rules help strikers today then that gets balanced out by how faster, stronger and athletic defenders are compared to yesterday. If you say attackers today have it easier for referring then that gets balanced by how tactics and match replays to exploit their runs and patterns. The very idea that Pele had it tougher compared to Maradona is utter rubbish. " Told by Cruyff. So calm down with the eras.

Think about the playing niveau in different eras. Of course today's niveau is higher than for example 50 years before. But if you lived and played in the 70ies you probably wouldn't know the tricks of today's football. Players like Cruyff, Pele, Maradona and Ronaldo are responsible for quality change. Football would be the same without these players, so have more respect.

On the other hand difference in tackles is obvious and to be able to play at highest level back then is something else. Medicine, sport science and change of rules made today's game totally different. In Pele's era is pure luck to be able to play whole career. That is why those guys will always be greats!

@@markosajn5776maldini himself saids that if he had to make a tackle he had already made a mistake so I don't understand what ur trying to say.There are still players these days who are phenomenal at slide tackling such as Rubens dias being a prominent example.Slide tackling has become less common tho due to how risky it can be.U can give away a pen or easily get dribbled past taking a very long time to get up and by then the striker will already be in behind.I think ur talking about the game getting softer which I definitely agree with,but today's game has soo much more running.Maybe 1.5-2x more running than it used to.When ur in defence u can never let ur guard down but I'd assume the same for the 90s.Really comes down to preference which version u think is tougher.

Yeah I wished the same thing too. But R9 went to Italy for a bigger challenge. After that one season in Spain, he literally said he "needed to play against competitive opponents". He wanted to play where all the best players were playing (yes, and the money was also part of the motivation). Personally since the first time I discover this guy on TV, never missed a single of his games (friendlies included), what I kept noticing was this guy never liked it easy. This is not the guy who will score 4 or 5 goals when his team is leading 8-0, but this was the guy who will score that 1 or 2 goal when everyone think it's impossible on this game. That was R9 for me. Forget the fat guy who played at Real Madrid from 2003 (even though he was decent player). Search for any footage you can find of him before his Madrid time, then maybe you will be asking the same question as I'm asking myself nowadays: why is everyone keeps talking about GOATs in these days?

It’s the way he moves, his touch, the eye test, his greatness comes in the way he makes you feel watching him. For me, He’s the greatest Talent/player of all time. To put it into perspective, nobody ever saw him at his prime or best cause pot all robbed us of this. imagine not seeing what he was capable of between 22-26 and when he was back, he was only about 40% the player he was while being overweight with no knees.

@@edwardhinton1615 different positions, different times. On my opinion, in his brief peak (Inter / Barcelona), before the 1st knee injury - he was better than Messi and Ronaldo. It was much shorter, yes, but a brighter peak, in the time with the greatest defenders ever seen, when offensive players didn’t have the protection from the referees they have had since 2010-ish and forward. Messi is great as well as C. Ronaldo and kudos for their achievements and longevity; however longevity is more feasible nowadays than in the early 2000’s , 90’s and before- due to nutrition, medicine, methods of training recovery and the rules of course, with more protection for players, and better pitches, better gear, balls, etc. just an opinion. Of course I agree than other than Pelé, Messi is the most accomplished player ever and on my Goat list I have Pelé, Maradona, Ronaldo fenómeno , Messi and Ronaldinho.

Im 50 years old I've seen 3 strikers under 20 years old in my life that destroyed grown up defenders scared them to death. Ronaldo9 ,Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney you can add Diego Maradona to that if you'd call him a striker. All truly world class. Unfortunately R9 and Owen were flogged to death by mismanagement and a desire for success that overlooked the need for care for such young people. Both suffered terrible knee injuries and were never the same after.

Yeah I wished the same thing too. But R9 went to Italy for a bigger challenge. After that one season in Spain, he literally said he "needed to play against competitive opponents". He wanted to play where all the best players were playing (yes, and the money was also part of the motivation). Personally since the first time I discover this guy on TV, never missed a single of his games (friendlies included), what I kept noticing was this guy never liked it easy. This is not the guy who will score 4 or 5 goals when his team is leading 8-0, but this was the guy who will score that 1 or 2 goal when everyone think it's impossible on this game. That was R9 for me. Forget the fat guy who played at Real Madrid from 2003 (even though he was decent player). Search for any footage you can find of him before his Madrid time, then maybe you will be asking the same question as I'm asking myself nowadays: why is everyone keeps talking about GOATs in these days?

It was much shorter, yes, but a brighter peak, in the time with the greatest defenders ever seen, when offensive players didn’t have the protection from the referees they have had since 2010-ish and forward. Messi is great as well as C. Ronaldo and kudos for their achievements and longevity; however longevity is more feasible nowadays than in the early 2000’s , 90’s and before- due to nutrition, medicine, methods of training recovery and the rules of course, with more protection for players, and better pitches, better gear, balls, etc. just an opinion. Im 50 years old I've seen 3 strikers under 20 years old in my life that destroyed grown up defenders scared them to death. Ronaldo9 ,Michael Owen and Wayne Rooney you can add Diego Maradona to that if you'd call him a striker. All truly world class. Unfortunately R9 and Owen were flogged to death by mismanagement and a desire for success that overlooked the need for care for such young people. Both suffered terrible knee injuries and were never the same after.
