The bodies of two people have been recovered from a red pickup truck, which was under water where the Baltimore bridge collapsed.
Eight construction workers were on the bridge when a ship struck it, plunging them into the waters below.
Two of the workers were rescued on the day, but the search continues for the other four who are all presumed dead.
Four of the six victims of the bridge collapse have been named so far.
The incident has shut down a major US port, leading to fears of knock-on effects on global supply chains.

The owner of that cargo ship should pay to fix the bridge. That bridge cost $60m back in 1977 I can only imagine what it will cost today? Plus did this cargo ship have prior issues with gauges not working????

The bridge should of had collision Islands to stop ships getting to close to the support columns of the bridge, that bridge was disaster waiting to happen
There were fenders and dolphins. They were ineffective against a 115000 ton monster. The problem is that bridges cannot be updated at the rate that ships are. This was a 1977 bridge against a 2015 vessel, probably most bridges in the world would have been taken down when hit by such wight and force, "islands" or not. Many are much older than this one.
There is tons of bridges around the world who are even less durable and doesnt have any islands , Do you imagine the forces behind when thousands of tons of fully loaded ship hitting something , it would take a lot to stop it the inertia is insane. It's an accident thats about it
@@moggpiano8043It had no ship collision defences. You can see in the videos. The bridge was built before the requirement for support pillar protection was a requirement.
@@user-ph4wi4sy2p these fenders or dolphins are not to stop a vessel just to bring them to a other direction that the vessel not hit the pillars. The most bridges where you have a lot of heavy traffic have dolphins, or the pillars build on little islands. You can often see scratches from vessels on these pillars. They were lucky it didn't happen earlier. Unfortunately, they have relied on their luck for too long and done far too little to ensure safety. You can find a big number of reports on the internet about ports that have retrofitted their bridges with safety dolphins or fenders.
If all it takes is one ship breaking down then this route is not safe for that size ship.
Statistics say it's absolutely safe.

Just a point of interest... Salvador Dali painted a picture in 1945 titled The Broken Bridge And The Dream. The name of the container ship that collided with the bridge is named DALI and the approach road leading onto the bridge that spans the river looks very similar to the painting.

It's hard to believe that they were able to remove all travelers on the bridge at 1:30 AM, only losing the six construction workers.
Up there there luckily isn’t a lot of traffic on the bridge at that time of night. During the day whole different ballgame. Wall to wall traffic. There are starting yesterday to direct other cargo ships that were waiting to go into the harbor into Virginia which is close, and New York and North Carolina ports.
The ship sent out a distress call at which point traffic was prevented from entering the bridge. Unfortunately, they didn't evacuate the road crew.
Official officals:" The bridge was in satisfactory condition. " A.K.A. it was still up, the design was flawed, the steel was cheap steel from overseas and the ships crew was diversified.
The ship should be examine if it really was a power failure or staged ?
make no sense to staged it! It often happens that there is a power outage on a vessel. This is usually not a big problem on the open sea, as the error can be corrected after a few minutes. Often such errors are just false alarms. Most of the time you just have to restart the machine or restart the computer.

Because technically the ship did nothing wrong. Ships break down. They followed all rules correctly. The ship was piloted by a local pilot of the Maryland port administration. The ship also did a mayday call which saved lives too. Ultimately they will investigate and say it's the Maryland port administration's fault as everything that happens in the port is their responsibility. There will be questions like why wasn't the ship tugged past the bridge?.
