This absolutely gorgeous song has finally graced my ears by Dimash Kudaibergen and Igor Krutoy. It has been nearly a year since we last have heard Dimash on this channel, and I am pleased to have the honor to feature him again.
Join professional opera singer Elizabeth Zharoff, as she listens to Dimash Kudaibergen performing "Stranger”.

    • I just love anything Dimash does. Strange, since I mostly listen to metal... but I also love opera. Maybe that is why your channel keeps popping up for me. -> Subscribed. If you want to show your audience some fine opera. I have hardly ever seen anyone do a reaction to "Contessa Perdono" from Mozarts Le Nozze di Figaro. In my opinion one of the finest pieces of music there is. I just love music that evokes emotion. Wether it is opera, metal (Nightwish e.g. gets me every time).

  • I've said this before in other reactions, but I believe that Dimash is the greatest vocalist to ever live. He is the perfect storm of everything that makes a vocalist. He has the natural talent, the nearly mutant-like physical qualities to his vocal chords, the insane perfectionist drive to become better, and the insane support of both his fans and his family. To have achieved so much at his young age - he truly will be remembered as the greatest. Imagine his impact by the time he is 40 years old. He will be studied even after his death. Dimash has set the high bar for vocal performance for generations to come. I wonder if we will live to see someone who will surpass him. Imagine the insane amount of skill that would take.

    • Yeah, everything you say, but it's not about a voice that will surpass him. It's about a voice that you want to comfortably listen to at any time without having your ears and nerves thrilled with the showmanship and extraordinary technique, but rather sit back and relax and enjoy someone just singing for an hour or more. or at any time. Does anyone actually do that with Dimash?

  • His vocal prowess, vocal technique, vocal acrobatics, his phrasing and breath support for days are just 🔥🔥🔥🔥So much to talk about. He can be an angel with so much grace in “new version” of Ave Maria, then he can be a warrior, and vocal monster in “Stranger” , then he can be a cool dance sexy boy in many pop dance songs, he can also be a rock star in rock element songs, then be a countertenor at “ steroid” mode or literally female high soprano, sings like a bird with precise staccati, yet can be a guy in traditional custom and sings a tale ancient traditional songs, mixed with his background degree of Jazz music The power , the vocal stamina and flexibility, the artistry, the versatility, the spectrum of all aspects of voices!

  • This instrument is Qobyz. It typically only for Nomads. Legend of Korkyt-Ata He came from the Syrdarya steppes and lived in the VIII-IX centuries. On the Syrdarya, in the Karmaksha district of the Kyzylorda (Red Horde) region, there is a probable burial place of Korkyt. Some believe that before the birth of Korkyt, an eclipse of the sun occurred, thunder rumbled and a storm began. The child who frightened the steppe was nicknamed Korkyt, which means "scare". Throughout his life, he searched for the key to immortality. But wherever his foot went, Korkyt was faced with symbols of imminent death. On his camel Zhel Maya Korkyt traveled all over the Earth, but nowhere could he hide from the grave prepared for him. And only music could stop time and even death itself. So, from the shirgai tree Korkyt created a musical instrument with strings stretched over it, wrapped in camel skin - the first kobyz on which he poured out his thoughts and feelings. Only falling asleep and involuntarily stopping playing, Korkyt ata went to another world. About twenty works of Korkyt ata have survived to this day, about 12 kyuis are written in notes, some have several versions. Each of them has its own special creation story. The most famous among them are "Tengri kyuy", "Korkyt kyuy", "Elim-ai, khalkym-ai" (My people), "Elmen koshtasu" (Farewell to the homeland). kzhead.info/sun/nayLacWOpZ6Yp4k/bejne.html

  • It is completely out of the ordinary how Dimash Qudaibergen manages to convey extremely different emotions by singing almost exactly the same lyrics but using a different dynamic, a different key, a different timbre and different sound production techniques! He begins with the shyness and doubt of a stranger who enters a territory totally foreign to him (when he plays in the piano mode and with sounds surrounded by breath), moves on to the desire to try his strength to achieve a new beginning in life (then when he achieves that magnificent passage through the whole spectrum of his vocal rank using very different techniques of singing on each register) and reaches the end to have the power of the winning hero who not only tried, not only fought but finally defeated (when he shows us the power of his belting and that high and super long note of 20 seconds)! I only scored 3 moments, but they were more because between the choruses there were 2 slightly different moments of storytelling, but both in his register below the bass-baritone and there was another chorus (in total there were 4 choruses and two slightly more parts of the story, all in different dynamics, different keys and very different vocal techniques performed impeccably from a technical point of view, but also with strong emotional effects in the sense of impressive and maximum effect on the audience that practically listened to the whole song almost hypnotized)! For me it was the perfect song of the moment and it was a sublime demonstration of how much Dimash Qudaibergen can still progress even though he is already far beyond his contemporaries ! In this song he covered from C2 to F6 !

Your voice knowledge ans skills and the relevance of your analysis are at a much higher level. There are several Dimash songs that you haven't reacted to yet. My main suggestions are: Ave Maria (a masterpiece) and Fly Away from New Wave 2021; Love is like a dream from Slavic Bazaar 2021 (different of the 2019 version to which you have already reacted); Golden and Be with me (two music video); all recently released songs from his digital show (Olimpico, SOS, Qairan Elim, Samaltau, Durdaraz, Qaragym Ai, Daididau, etc.)

  • Hi, Dimash never ceases to amaze us. In this epic song he shows his full vocal range, his performance, and his charisma. As I have been informed, "Stranger" "Flay Away" and "Ave Maria" is a kind of triptych (Born, live, die). It makes sense to me when I listen to all three in a row. Dimash is the best in the world.

  • Haha, I was waiting for your reaction to this. I do believe it's actually rocketed to the top of my favorite Dimash songs (of which there are plenty). So much to enjoy, from the perfectly softly enunciated "t" on "feet", to the delicious cultural ethnic vocalizations in the middle section, to the powerful, full chest voice immediately into breathy threads. Little things like his enunciation of the diphthong in again -- ag-a-ee-n, drawing notes out into delicious, legato lines. The transition from the 'yodeling' modulation, to the faster e-e-e-e, I mean, I have no words. It's really only second to "Ogni Pietra", in my opinion, in terms of showing literally every conceivable color, timbre, shade of the voice. But can we also talk about Dimash's confidence/acting on stage? The man's always been so present in every song, in every character, but this to me was on a different level. It seems as though he's at a comfort level now on stage where he can have fun a bit, telling a story while always able to rely on that -- not to be too hyperbolic here, but really perfect technique. Plus, the lyrics are spot-on for Dimash as it seems as though he's trying to broaden his reach, moving into new audiences, literally a stranger in a strange new land. Perfect. Perfect. Also, the ?chimes? throughout the final note, emphasizing not only its length, but also a dissonant 'strangeness' -- genius. We'll just leave alone the passionate, sweat-drenched Dimash breathily singing (lest I completely, adoringly fan-boy out even more). Check out his new performance of "SOS" from the Dimash Digital Show. I mean, just beautiful. Apologies for the lengthy reply, but it's Dimash, and a exemplar performance at that. Thanks for the interesting explanation of the vocal folds frequency characteristics at the extremes of the voice. So fascinating!

  • What an absolute joy for you to analyze Dimash again -- you were the one to put me on to this extraordinary singer over a year ago. Your analysis is so spot-on and in depth, there is no one else like you on KZhead. Your extensive training shines through. I accidently deleted a comment I made here about his evolution -- you noticed the same -- the lowering of his voice range as an example. I commented on one singer who I accompanied for briefly evolving their voice range through time, but with Dimash, its like there are three very accomplished singers, each working on their ranges and talents -- all magically blended into one singer. Today, we also learned about "pulse," "loft," "twang," and more. And, you are the only person to note the possible connection between Stranger in a Strange Land by Heinlein -- I groked that. Next, you might take a look at Ave Maria, a different Dimash shows up for that one.

  • Dimash is magnificente!! and it's out of control. Stranger (Traveller) is an ancient mystical work that takes us back to the ancient and universal Celtic ritual, a fragment of the enchanting spectacle "Lord of the Dance". The sphere behind Dimash represents the "Evolving Universe" of our Creator, the Hindu "Wheel of Samsara" and even the "Cycle of Souls" of Judaism. It is the eternal return of the movement of life and death, of the soul's descent into this world. Nine men and nine women in evening dresses carry the light to illuminate the unknown paths to dance this dance of life. Then he says: I'm a stranger and I feel this land under my feet, he knows he's walked through the hills and mountains, suggesting he's a mature soul who's been here many times, remembers lost loves, songs he's never heard but who is now singing and feels in his blood the flow of distant spirits. He knows he still has to learn something if he has the strength to start the new cycle of life over.

  • Besides having great expression and mystical style, I see this song as a show piece to present to the U.S. People in the U.S. don't listen to French songs that much, so SOS doesn't quite travel here that well. This song covers most of his range, most of his vocal styles and really shows his breath control. It is in English so it is easier to market in the U.S. He has improved his English pronunciation a lot - did you notice that his "th" sounds were much better? That's got to be the hardest phoneme for someone in his region. Personally, I like his Russian songs the most, because he seems so comfortable and expressive, but this song could really improve his visibility in the U.S. and perhaps in the U.K. some also. I would really like him to be as successful as he deserves, in every region.

  • Greetings from Russia! Well, falling in love with Dimash affects the whole reaction! It can be seen even from afar that the heart is beating faster and the breathing is stopped, and a happy smile at the mere mention of Dimash's name does not leave his face, and at the sound of his voice, butterflies flutter in his stomach! How nice it is to see such a sensual attitude to Dimash's work! And about Dimash's ability to instantly change the tone of his voice at any second, one of the Italian opera tenors said that Dimash's notes are not vertically arranged in height, but like a path in the garden - where he needs, he stepped there! And the abrupt transitions through two or three octaves - as if he climbed three steps up the stairs in the garden, plucked an apple from a branch and ... jumped down, easily and naturally! And another thing: in a duet with the Chinese opera singer Li Yugang, "Drunk Princess" Dimash sang lines on the note B2, the audience was absolutely delighted with this! And the full duration of the last note in the song was 21.37 seconds!

I'm also surprised that you didn't mention the fact that at the end of that long sustained note and breath that he dropped to his knees and it didn't affect the quality of the note at all. Do NOT get on the business end of that Paladin's 2-handed litigation sword. When I first heard the ethnic instruments, I wondered if Dimash was tackling Hillary Duff's "Stranger", but nope. Another spectacular vocal workout; this guy never fails to amaze. Always love listening to Coloratura notes (F-freaking-6!!!) coming out of a guy's voicebox. And don't get me started on 16-or-so seconds of continual F#5. Bloody hell, tough to pick a favorite quality of his singing: multiple tones, timbres, shades, accents, phrasing, breath control for days, and the ridiculous range, of course. Truly, a modern Coleridge, Dimash was blessed by The Godz with an embarrassment of gifts.

The way he pronounces "strength" and "agAIn", and the way he carries pronunciation right to the end of words, like "underneath my fee-t" and "who I Amm"

  • As for me, this is the most mature composition of Dimash at this moment. And not only for Dimash but for Igor Krutoy as well. They understand each other perfectly and their joint work brings such brilliant masterpieces. Many thanks for such a professional analysis and your amazing mix of skill and emotion
