New Toyota Land Cruiser: See why it’s better than ever before!
Meet the all-new Toyota Land Cruiser!
It’s been 72 years since Toyota released the very first Land Cruiser, and since then there have been over 10 generations of this off-roading legend! The question is, has this new edition been worth the wait?
Well based on looks alone, we’d say it definitely has! The new Land Cruiser rolls up with a retro, boxy design that reminds us of a classic Defender, Suzuki Jimny, and Mercedes G-Class. Whether you’re looking at it from the front, side, or rear, the boxy design is clear to see and we absolutely love it!
What’s more, Toyota will also be releasing a limited edition First Edition model which ramps up the retro style even more! This will arrive with rounded headlamps, as well as the choice of some limited-edition two-tone paint jobs.
While the exterior is keeping things retro, the interior has been notably modernised. It may keep things a bit boxy, but there’s a huge infotainment screen on the dash, a digital drivers display, as well as a large centre console that can even house a fridge.
There are a couple of engine choices available, although they won’t be released in all markets. When it comes to petrol, the entry-level will be a 2.7-litre 4-cylinder with 163hp and 246Nm. There will also be a more powerful 2.4-litre turbo petrol with 281hp and 430Nm, however, both of these won’t be available globally. The entry-level diesel is a 2.8-litre turbo diesel with 204hp and 500Nm, which is pretty similar to the engine from the outgoing Land Cruiser. You can also expect a mild hybrid and full hybrid selection to go on sale in the future.
We don’t know the price yet, but given the last Land Cruiser cost from at least £40,000, you can expect to be paying a bit more for this new model. But will it be worth it?! You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

Toyota Land Cruiser is so legendary that it will be bought everywhere, no matter what others say. And I really like the new one
A garbage can is reliable. Doesn't mean it's any good haha
Turbo, 4 cylinder, hybrid. Never, if they're going to give us this junk just go to electric. The repair bills will be crazy . Been a Toyota fan my whole life but not with this junk. For every dollar you say that the pump you're going to spend $100 more in repairs
@@InsaneBimmeroverpriced too. lc200 and lc 300 are way too much overpriced compared to patrol , which is way cheaper and also very reliable
@@InsaneBimmer So having a fancy garbage can that breaks everytime u put garbage in it is better than one that works no matter what???? U must be really dumb.
@@JoedisneyIm curious what makes you think its junk compared to its competitors?
The previous CEO of Toyota said in a boardroom meeting “we aren’t going to build boring cars anymore” and gave design engineers approval to do their own things… the results have been fantastic👏👏
They may crush Honda.
The results are the opposite of fantastic.
Easily the best land cruiser by design most of the land cruisers I find boring
I absolutely love this design. I'm a big fan of the more boxy shaped vehicles and Toyota seems to be hitting that mark in all the right places. As well as making it capable, comfortable and fun to drive all from the factory. I've got a 2020 4Runner and I love it. I always wanted a Landcruiser, they're just so cool
Have you ever seen an aerodynamic military vehicle.
Im the complete opposite. its like a drawing i did at 4 years ol imo
It's the vehicles capabilities that attract me. The look is good also. I am seeing a lot of good qualities in the engine. The only turn-off is the turbocharging of the engine.
@@blackspades0000 I don’t want to bahaha. I’m way more a fan of boxy shaped. The turbo shouldn’t be too bad on your other comment. They could use a little get up and go
@sniper4690 Turbos tend to cause engines to wear out faster. However, since the vehicle is made by Toyota, it may be a long-lasting turbo engine. I like the looks, and I am considering buying one depending on how reasonable the price is.
Toyota's designs are just amazing nowadays.
Way better then what Germans are putting out. Mercedes designs looks boring besides the G wagon and BMW…well they fell off. Saw an XM for the first time last month, looks just as bad as the photos. A 2023 Prius looks better then more expensive cars. Think about it. Edit: The only German Luxury brands that makes good looking cars are Audi and Porsche. Facts 💯

It looks more like the FJ Cruiser than the Land Cruiser and that is not a bad thing.
that is a bad thing. the fj cruiser was a disgrace
@@Connore1029 No, it wasn't. You are a disgrace. You do realize how much of a minority opinion you have, right? FJ Cruisers are still costing the same as they did when new, even with over 50k miles on them. It's hard to find one for under $40-$30k here in the US.
Well the FJ itself harks back to the FJ40 Land Cruiser design so i’m not complaining
Definitely J70 Prado vibes.
Yea like a larger FJ with a touch of bronco vibes. I love that blue/white paint job. I think putting the spare on the rear door would make it look cooler. The rear is very bland while the front looks very cool.
I'm so happy to see some old features come back again - the classy boxy shape, the physical buttons.
I had always complaints about Japanese cars' look and feel, while they are wonderful, the best performers. Seems now they are improving a lot. This macho, sleek and stylish Toyota Landcruise is testimony to this. Congrats Toyota!

Honestly, this is hands down the best looking Toyota in a long time and including the GR86. Finally, the brand is stepping up and releasing a lot of interesting cars.
The gr86 is not a Toyota it's a Subaru
@@labourlawact7826 Toyota had a big hand in developing the 86/brz, built in subaru factories tho
I guess they set the bar pretty low
Not sure what they changed but every new Toyota this year looks much better than the earlier line-up; Prius, Yaris Cross and Corolla Cross are all pretty great designs.
@@labourlawact7826 As far as I know the body is Toyota with a Subaru boxer engine.
Toyota is going to make a fortune off these. They’re awesome looking and exactly what people want 😊
NOBODY asked for the massive engine downgrade.
It’s really not exactly what people want. It’s smaller, less luxurious and has a high output 4 cylinder hybrid.
Toyota is spot on with this one. Not too big and not too small for an SUV. perfect! Jimny owners will love her.❤
I'm happy Toyota is dialing it back to the formula they had in the 80s - a straightforward 4x4 utility. I wonder what this means for the 4Runner now that they seem to occupy the same space.
4runner is dead i thought?
@@ChiXGotnoplanin US it’s still pretty popular, so much so that they’re usually going for around $15k USD over MSRP in the US, but people want a new 4Runner. It hasn’t been changed since 2013 besides updated tech I think.
4runner is longer than this one and offers a third row too. If one wants something less off-roady than they can go for Highlander. If u want that and a bit larger - Grand highlander and if the full blown flagship - in the US u go for Sequoia, everywhere else - Land crusier 300.
@@ChiXGotnoplan they were planning on discontinuing it in the early 2010s but sales skyrocketed. The 6th gen should be past the R&D phase by now so there will be some overlap in the market with the two for the time being once the 6th gen does get released but that probably wont be an issue considering how popular both the vehicles will be.
@@marcoscastellanos1 That's my hope. Take it back to roots.
Always liked the Land Cruisers of old and this doesn’t disappoint . Also the biggest bonus is that it isn’t ridiculously overpriced like the defender !
Because the defenders better 😂
@@ShadowGaming-ot6yfHow?
@@mauripekkarinen1 better engine selection for a start. The technology the defender has is insane. The Toyota is also a brilliant off roader tho!!
@@ShadowGaming-ot6yfYeah, I agree with the engines and the tech. Nothing beats a big V8 in a big suv. Also would be more reliable than a small turbo engine. Though I'd still have the Toyota just for the dependability alone. I feel like a rugged off-roader doesn't need to be a drag monster with 600 hp and more tech than NASA.
@@mauripekkarinen1 A Land Rover v8 has never been and never will be more reliable than any Toyota .
The old LC GX had KDSS that was following the low gear serie and gave the same result in difficult terrain as the new swaybar disconnect

We used to have 2 V8 Land Cruisers brand new back in 1999 up until 2005, fantastic cars. I remember my father doing 40mph on speed bumps when he was in a rush and the air suspension just made the car float. Shame the V8 got fazed out.
Very good looking Land Cruiser. More importantly, it looks rugged and fun as a modern 4x4 that is more affordable than the previous generation LC.

My brother-in-law had an FJ40 (circa 1980). It was huge and had massive tyres. But then his family are from the centre of Bali and back then roads were few and far between. If you wanted to move passengers/goods, you could only do that with a vehicle like a Land Cruiser. As Bali developed and roads got built the need diminished. He now drives a Honda Jazz 😉👍

I had hoped they would give it the V6 in the Lexus GX. The 2.8 Diesel is a tad underpowered considering it's what most people outside of North America go for. But overall, it's a very welcome and good-looking refresh for the Prado.
They need to drop the 3.5L V6 twin turbo diesel option in it.

My ‘94 Land Cruiser got a 4.2L straight 6 engine. This is nothing compared to that. Old days were good.
It's not old like the old one! MERRH!!
@@nomenclature9607465 only momentarily, which is why it can only tow 6k. It needs the batteries and engine to make that power, so it can only maintain that power for a short time. The engine alone makes 317ft lbs, which is not much for something that will likely weigh 5,500+lbs.
The 1HZ motor will never pass emissions in European and American countries
Love the look, might get this after test driving it.
I bet it's a great Land Cruiser. The rear looks a bit like a '05 Ford Maverick :) Wish I still had my 1977 BJ-40 in Mustard Yellow with a white roof.
I love it. I drive a 2006 LC3 which I still think looks awesome and I haven’t upgraded it because until now there was nothing out there I preferred. And I’m including the more recent shape in that because I think they spoiled it; with the larger body and flush arches the wheels look kind of “tucked in” like a bus, and the smaller grille adds to the nondescript image. A 4x4 needs to look bold and rugged for me, and the earlier LC3 ticked that box with the sculpted wide arches and aggressive grille layout. This new J250 definitely fits that bill. Whatever the new price will be, it will be a good investment because these trucks not only go forever (I’m on 300k miles and going strong) they also have a timeless look, especially this new one. So depending on what our Eco-obsessed government decides to do, and depending on whether the hybrid version will be available, this could be the last vehicle you need to buy for a very, very long time.
Hope they'll revive the FJ Cruiser
