Jen Underdahl, Visual Effects Producer for Marvel Entertainment, provides WIRED with an in-depth look at the most impressive visual effects featured in Avengers: Endgame and Infinity War.   • This is why the "too much cgi" argument is frustrating to me. Technology is a huge part of our world, as it's allowing us to make better looking movies. As long as the effort is put in, you might not even know what's cgi 100% of the time. So what if not everything is real. Special effects are important. Just be cool.

    • True but i don’t think it’s always a must. Think about Hector vs Achilles in Troy. That movie came out in 2004 and that fight scene is badass even today.

    • STH “too much CGI” means your movie looks outdated in 2 years if it’s crap CGI. Endgame and Infinity war have crap CGI. I bought those things on 4K Blu-ray and the CGI looks awful on my OLED tv. It’s also lazy. They CGI hair. Say what you will about Michael Bays stories but his action sequences and use of CGI are absolutely perfect. Along with Chris Nolan,Chad Stahelski and James Wan.

  • I think the most impressive visual feat in both these movies were the environments to be honest. Half of the environments were CG and we didn’t even notice.

    • CGI team needs more credit than the actors. I remember Jennifer Lawrence said all she does is stand, do her lines then gets out and the behind the scenes does everything. She also said in an interview that sometimes she doesn't deserve the credit because most of the movie was CGI. I am not saying actors are worthless, they make the movie, everyone has an important role but I think with these huge CGI movies the behind the scenes team should get paid more.

  • I love how she owns the pride and accomplishment of what she and the talented teams behind these movies were able to achieve. The perfect balance of acknowledgement for the others on the project without being that fake over-humble-mess that sometimes comes with such large feats. So much respect for the marvel vfx team

  • All the MCU's CGI is honestly second to none, they've managed to take characters that are over the top comic book fantasy and bring them to be on-screen and make them look *_believable_* and that is something I have yet to see in other comic book-based movies and other sci-fi movies whatsoever.   • Thank god endgame came out before COVID. The experience of seeing it on opening week in a packed theatre with all that energy and excitement was really wonderful. I can’t imagine experiencing something like that again in a movie.

    • In Civil war, I think Marvel achieved the worst CGI ever when they were running behind the cars. Long story short, a "Corridor View" video, with one of the stunts in there (the one who made the body replacement for black panther) and the running was over a carpet. All Practical. O_o
