COLBY COVINGTON - THE MOVIE (Documentary)

The UFC, and MMA in general, is a ruthless sport that’s filled with warriors that shoot for the stars. Fighters that put their health on the line to achieve greatness. While doing that, they sacrifice a lot of things, in hopes that the company will keep them on the roster. Each fight is a chance to climb the ladder, but also to fall off from it.
But, the sport looks not only for fighters that will notch win after win. They have to be spectacular at doing it. After all, it’s a business, and if you ain’t drawing eyes, you might find yourself dropped.
One of the most prolific UFC fighters, Conor McGregor, knows this best. Combining his fighting style with a legendary trash talk took him to UFC stardom. He makes each of his fights a spectacle that can’t be missed. Fans yearn for this stuff. When “humble” Conor showed up for the rematch against Dustin Poirier in January 2021, the fans were surprised at the image of a Conor McGregor that respects his opponents leading up to the fight. Unlike the Conor they remember from past years, like the one that tormented Jose Aldo, beating him even before that fight began.
For their third bout, the old “crazy” Conor returned, and fans were more fired up than ever. Conor charted his path to glory using insults and adversity towards his opponents, all by his own choice. Not all fighters choose this path. More importantly, not all of them can allow not to.
One of the fighters that discovered the brutal truth about the sport is Colby Covington. With a record of 12-1, Covington heard the news that he was to be dropped from the UFC roster, despite his winning record. Colby was beating his opponents left and right, with his superior work-ethic, endurance, and All-American wrestling. He was the complete package, or so he thought.
On one fateful morning, he was told that his style was “boring”, “uninspiring” and that he can’t draw people to the sport. Win or lose against his then next opponent, the legendary Brazilian, Demian Maia, it would be his last fight under the coveted UFC spotlight.
Colby Covington’s career can easily be divided into the pre-Maia and after-Maia era, for it was that fight that would pave the way for Covington’s rise to fame, and him becoming one of the best welterweights in the game. Ever.

    • He damn near lost his career in the UFC because he wasn't "entertaining enough". He was courteous and respectful and on a win streak, and they wanted to drop him. That's why he turned heel, he had nothing to lose at that point and just went for it. Turns out it was a great decision because it not only saved his career but turned him into a star in the process. That guy that says insane shit isn't HIM, it's a tool of his used to save what he worked his entire life for. kzhead.info/sun/esyYcaaIkX2aZqs/bejne.html - This is a reference to a video that speaks for itself. At the end he says "That's not what sells" - If he didn't sell it, he wouldn't be in the UFC anymore. It's not only a fight business, it's entertainment as well which is a shame. If a fighter doesn't have that personality or "it" factor, they get cut. Doesn't always matter if they're a good fighter. He saved his career, and if you're too nearsighted to see that, I can't help you.

  • Covington vs Usman was a prime example of a fighter getting screwed by the referee. Usman faked injury from and eye poke and massively exaggerated getting hit in the groin when it barely grazed his cup to kill Colby's momentum every time he hurt him. Meanwhile Colby gets two blatant and deep fingers in the eyes which visibly swell them up almost instantly and Goddard not only refuses to bring the doctor in to take a look but then blames Colby. Colby then goes on to get finished with clear a clear as day shot to the back of the head right infront of the referee. I'm not knocking Usman, you do what you have to do to win it's just the nature of competition. It's the referee's responsibility to curb that shit.

  • I’m a big Colby fan And I love the documentary, but I have some criticism’s •1) the description of Covington vs Usman 1, saying how Usman was getting the better of him, which wasn’t the case at all, that fight was extremely close all the way until the end of the 5th round. The fans, judges & commentary had it 2-2 going into the 5th, & even had Covington winning up until the fight was stopped with like 20 seconds left. It was literally a razor close fight and barn burner. Also all the controversies aren’t even mentioned, like the fake eye pokes w/Usman holding the wrong eye, the unfair referee, the fake “low blow” Covington threw a kick to the body that hurt Usman, who pretended it was low and got the ref to step in (he did the same against Leon but got called out on it, unlike against Colby) the eye poke to Colby where it seemed deliberate with the ref refusing to give Colby a break, even after he had just giving Usman 2 separate breaks for eye pokes, and the bad stoppage, with just seconds left in a championship fight, Colby was intelligently defending by going in for a takedown, Usman illegally struck Colby DIRECTLY in the back of the head in the finishing sequence, ANY ref would of gave a warning after the first blow, then stopped & took a point after throwing repeated illegal blows. Even with the illegal strikes, it was still a bad stoppage, no ufc fight in history has been stopped in that exact position. Colby immediately SPRUNG right up and protested. None of this was covered, you judges scorecards were shown but that’s it. •2) The depiction of the Covington vs Usman 2, while it’s true Usman probably won round 1, which was somewhat close but a slow start, Usman definitely win round 2 with the big knock down which Colby survived, but your depiction goes wrong starting with the 3rd round, which I agree he won that round, so didn’t some of the judges, but you didn’t mention the takedown Colby got, both the crowd, the commentary and Usman himself agreed that should of been counted as a takedown, not to mention Colby went to drag him back to the ground a 3rd time when Usman once again grabbed the fence with both Hands to avoid being taken down again. Colby also slightly outstruck usman too, problem is, you said this was the only good round for Covington, when that’s LITERALLY false. •Round 4) Colby’s best round was the next round, which was round 4. Besides the 2nd round where Usman knocked Colby down, the 4th round was the 2nd most dominant round after the 2nd. Colby clearly won that round, he had more strikes & more significant strikes as well as clearly doing more damage. The round ended with Covington hurting Usman with a punch leaving Usman wobbling and being saved by the bell. By far the only actually dominant round for either fighter besides the 2nd. Those were the only 2 decisive rounds. All the judges gave the round to Colby, both the commentary & crowd had it for Covington also. •5th Round was really close & competitive. By now, the Madison Sq garden audiences was getting behind Covington because he was mounting an incredible come back, to lose the first 2 and get dropped like that in the 2nd, to come back and win the next 2 rounds and really the 2nd half of the fight was incredible. But the 5th round was close, but Colby also landed more significant strikes in this round as well, & many including some of the judges had it for Covington. •All in all it was a very close fight, in fact it was by far the closest fight of Usmans career, many people including myself & some of the judges gave Colby rounds 3,4&5. Officially the 2 out of the 3 judges gave Colby rounds 3 & 4 , the other judge gave Colby rounds 4 & 5 with all 3 giving round 4. That means it was a 3-2 decision for Usman . The weasle does a great in-Depth breakdown of each round and came to the same conclusion that Colby won rounds 3,4&5, the fight very well should of atleast been a draw. He won over the crowd that night too. Seems like a lot of these details were missed, & instead both his fights against Usman were depicted as dominant performances & victories for Usman. Anyways, that’s it for me. Great documentary though!

Then he fights Usman gets his jaw broken and still wins 2 1/2 rounds while getting punched in the face. Nearly beat Usman just in the second round in the first fight but a fake groin shot costed him the belt. The dude is a absolute savage and a warrior when he fights.
