  • 'Jackson is shedding a little bit' Proceeds to remove a whole dog from the fur

    • Ours was similar. My brother and I would spend an hour brushing out the floof. We did it almost every weekend. A good size pile every time. Birds came and carried the floof away. It was fun to see a little nuthatch flying away with a wad of floof as big as a softball.

  • I love German Shepherds! I have 2! Both are very loving, but in public couldn’t be more different. One gets butt hurt if every person he sees doesn’t pet him, and the other is so scared and timid, I now only take him out for vet visits. He was a rescue from a horribly abusive situation, and was so shut down, he was at risk of being euthanized. So I did what any good Shepherd lover does. I adopted him.😄It was amazing when I got him home. He took one look at my older Shepherd and fell in love. So I call Butch (the older dog) an emotional support dog for my other dog, Rett.

    • Ive' had different Shepard over my 15 years raising and breeding them: I believe it's not just handability which these "livestock originally" and than working class dogs: people often get weak temperament genetics into their bloodlines(outcross and line out genetics) Jackson is a well behaved for his standard easy 8/10. People often confuse High anxiety high energy with aggressive or lack of impulse' control,this'again goea'back towards "handability and proper dog social skills and training." Understand yourself first than get a dog not the other way around folks

  • I am disabled, have been since age 23 (almost 52 now) and I got a GSD in my 30s when I "settled" into my disability enough to "cope" with it to a degree that I had the necessary aids, like a disability scooter. I got a small little pup (8 weeks) and at first she rode along the footrest for the entire trip (I took long drives through nature, we have paved ways along the river and canals where I live). Then a number of weeks in, she developed an interest to "tippy toe" off the foot rest and explore a bit. Gradually she started walking nicely along the scooter, and with the months that followed she gradually learned to walk, and even run beside it. This scooter could go 15KM/H max. speed but it was no match for her! That gal could run! Every walk we started with a nice "run" at full speed (she was over 1 years old at that time). I loved that dog, and was so sad when she was gone! People used to gaze at us in amazement and bewilderment, especially because she was so adept at walking nicely beside me, without getting her toes caught in the wheels. ;) She was some dog! RIP Isra. Pup in 2004! Adore this breed!

    • I worked as a tech at a mobile vet company. I had quite a few GSDs that were serious cautions, will bite. Unfortunately that was kinda the deal with mobile vets, at least our practice. MANY of our patients had been fired at their previous vet, or had to be fully sedated for an exam. The hope for the owners was that they wouldn’t start getting worked up seeing the vet building and they would be able to tolerate more (and in many cases they could but were still cautions.) We had a lot of nasties from all different kinds of breeds, same for cats. Personally though I loved the spicy🌶️ 🌶️ kitties 🐱. Most were anxious and fidgety, some a rag doll. I found that you can generally predict how the appointment is going to go within the first few moments of meeting them. The cautions would charge up towards you low barking and growling, the nervy ones would back up with a serious of higher pitched barks, and the calm ones would just walk up to you maybe with a single bark or so to make sure everyone is alert.

  • The problems that people have with German Shepherds is that people forgot that dogs are not just meant to be a stand-in for a child or friend. It's only recently that such a large percentage of the population is capable of wasting resources to feed and care for a dog with nothing concrete in return. Dogs were made to work, to be useful, and dogs _love_ to be useful. They _need_ to be useful. Some dogs need it more than others, and German Shepherds need it more than most any dog breed. That's one of the primary reasons why I love German Shepherds so much, but it does make them difficult to handle for people who can't find some concrete use for their dog.

    @RaynmanPlays@RaynmanPlays3 ай бұрын
    • Exactly. If they don't feel like they are doing their part for the pack (whether thats a family with mutliple doggos or just you and the pooch) it sends their doggy brains into overdrive. Or they get horribly depressed. That's why outdoorsy trips with fun dog activities are essential every now and then, as well as a regular routine of training, rewards and playing.

    • Not that obvious mate, I got a swiss white shepherd, closest relative to the GSD there is, and since he got his balls removed (medical reasons) he sheds massively when it's the season. He'd look like that a week or two after a perfect groom. Plus I've never met a GSD or WSS that liked to have their "pants" groomed, thus the matting there has a tendency to get out of hand.

  • It migth be that sheperds are so loyal that when left alone without their humans/ "pack" they can become very stressed if not worked with froma young age to do so. It could also be their medical problems. Many of them have hips and back problems and skin issues from being breed wrong over the years. They are also often breed for thier size making their joints even more painfull. A big dog who needs to work a lot with brain and body who is also very smart and sometimes have problems with being without their owner, plus the potentiell medical problems that often can make a dog react in a bad way out of pain, and that i've learnd often also talks alot and live for the drama. It sounds like something thst can go very wrong in the wrong hands. They are beautiful dogs though, I've had the plessure of owning one myself. Fantasic dogs if you like to work out in thw woods a lot and want to have a buddy for life.

    • Vanessa after Jackson gives kisses: “Thank you so much, oh, thank you.” 😊 I appreciate Vanessa’s humor! As well as the great work she does with the grooming. 👍🏼

  • I had a GS/Akita and the pile of fluff looks about right. I'd chase her around the house, plucking the fluff off, and she thought it was a great game. I'd wish we had realized her mom's reactions and barking should have been a red flag. We fell in love with the puppy dog face. Jessi did not do well with strangers in the house. We worked really hard with training and socialization. We had our girl for 14 years.

  • What a beauty-fantastic before & after. Jackson knew he was in the hands of a pro! So much blown coat, I almost thought he was a woolly Shep when he walked thru your shop doors.😍🐾💈
