I had a motor failure in a 64 mm F4. By the time I landed it and got to it, it was on fire. Burned the tail off.

Awesome EDF! I smoked the motor on an Eflight A6M5 Zero while flying combat. It looked like I got shot down for real.

Next to the F106 this would be my choice. Thank you for offering this. I had two of the foam versions that are no more.
Keep us posted on what you find. Im interested to know if that fan and motor is worth getting for the shmiggen. Im pretty sure the qx motors come out of the same factory as fms motors.

I have a bad experience with homemade Edfs. I’ve tried a lot with my 4S 64mm edf, but it’s just too underpowered even for an edf. I’m definitely going to buy another one

Very nice addition to your designs! Could you give us an approximate airframe only weight? I'm printing partially with prefoamed PLA and don't want it to be too heavy. Thanks
Wish I had the weight handy. Sorry I don’t think I weighed it. I’d imagine this plane would be the one you could print in anything and it would fly fine because it has so much lift and the wing loading is soooo light
Great thanks. I'll post a weight when I'm done printing. Have you tried designing these for vase mode printing to eliminate the stringing? I'm working on a P-47 in Solid works. Definitely a long learning curve to get all the internal features to print properly.
Is there a chance it wasn't getting enough air, and it overheated? Those intakes look so small next to the other models you have made for this EDF lately, but i'm not a plane guy, so I wouldn't know
You build some great models but I really wish you'd give the print blobs a light sanding. Are you using a direct drive (Microswiss) hotend on your printer? I built one of these out of depron years ago and it had the widest speed range of any aircraft out there.
I print and fly so many planes I just don’t have the time for finishing work. I feel ya though 👍🏻

While that motor says 3 or 4s, its kv is right on the line for maybe being 3S. Limit the throttle a bit and it may be fine or you just got a bad motor. Be curious if it wasn't the ESC?

According to info on AliExpress the QX 4600 and 5000 kv’s are specified for 3S and the 3300 and 4000 for 4S. Not a big mystery why the 4600 failed at 4S.

@@hotlapkyle Btw, was it the motor or the ESC? Maybe the ESC had too much amps drawn with this motor on 4S?
@@akaFrits1 could be the ESC delivered a strange current. It’s a 40amp but not my normal 40 I run in my Shmiggen, I’ve been running the same motor in that with 4s. 18 flights

I use Bambu printers and I use active foaming LW PLA from 3d lab print or color fabb
