EA is shuttering Ridgeline Studios, and Marcus Lehto has left the company. What will happen to the Battlefield Universe? The narrative campaign in the works? It doesn't bode well for the future of the franchise.
#Battlefield #Battlefield2042
The Battle Royale being a big focus and even a thing in the first place is the final nail in the coffin for the franchise
Indeed, we don't trust it if they're not dropping that mode away and focus to the actual story of BF.
What are you on about, Firestorm was great but in a bad setting, Extraction on BF2042 is awful because it was cut half-way through and they have decided at last second to make a typical bf game. If a different studio is working on Battle Royale and especially someone like DICE LA(Ripple Effect) then i am fairly confident it will be good. I am more worried about the main game.
I don't expect anything decent to come out in regards to Battlefield anymore. I'm just curious to see from which competition they try to sloppily copy from this time, instead of staying true to their own formula.
Would be a good laugh to see how they mess it up again this time around.
Fucks sake everyone and their mama should see this from a mile away that this will not work. They and their chance with Firestorm from BFV, and they blew it.
I moved onto Enlisted even though that also has questionable monetization/progression and bad movement, I still have loads more fun than I ever did with BF2042. I think Battlefield is finished as a franchise and this next one will probably be their nail in the coffin as they seemed to have learned little to nothing with BR being the free to play mode, they're just copying what COD does at this point.
its dead
Ironically, battlefield would do good by copying Battlebit, which copy Battlefield lmao
Ok let's get some things straight here: - 1: The director for the campaign leaves abruptly on his own accord. - 2: The whole Ridgeline studio working on the campaign gets laid off. - 3: They are putting a large focus on battle royale which nobody in the BF community wants or cares about. - 4: The game setting is taking place in 2025-2030, meaning there will be no Bad Company 3 (would've been a smarter move) The writing is on the wall. This is going to be another disaster... Battlefield is no longer a video game, its a business...
Sadly you are 100% right
The alleged BR is supposedly a seperate entity, like how Warzone works - so I am not sure what the big deal is
@jozsef98 the big deal is the battle royale itself entirety. Nobody wants another BR in an oversaturated market, not mentioning that the genre is not necessarily dying out, but unpopular.
@@jozsef98they SEVERELY missed out with Firestorm from BFV, which sucks because it actually was a decent mode and opportunity in the new BR scene. Everybody and their mama knows that this will not float on the first week it drops. There is no point in trying to squeeze in when they already had their chance, which they blew.
That Mr battlefield dude should take away his baby battlefield from EA, and find a studio who can restore the balance in the universe. Never gonna happen ofc, but that’s what should happen. Fu**sh**!!
The fact that the movement mechanics got nutered so hard from BFV - is still shocking.
I would love a present day BF with BF5 movement system and hell even the fortify system as well!
All they had to do for 2042 was combine BF4's setting with BF1's atmosphere and BF5's movement and gunplay
IMO the Korean war can be a great direction for few reasons: first, it was never tackled in a major FPS, second the war included dozens of countries with vast amount of combatants in air, land (mountains, forests, urban) and sea, lasted for 3 years and is still relevant today.
I think the Korean War would be a cool setting, but I don't think there would be enough content to flesh out a whole game there. Most of the weapons and equipment would be WWII era stuff, and although Korea has a decent variety of environments, I think more would be needed for all the maps to not just feel similar to each other. I don't know how well it could be implemented (I guess War Thunder kinda does this), but maybe have a multi era battlefield game stretching from Korea all the way up to the Gulf War, encompassing the whole Cold War essentially. You could have Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iran-Iraq War, Six Day War, Yom Kippur War, Soviet-Afghan War, Angolan Civil War, etc. Any 50s, 60s, 70s, or 80s era equipment could be used in the 90s era let's say, but not the other way around, so the 50s era would have access to the least amount of equipment whereas the 90s era would have access to the most. Not perfect but it would definitely give a wide range of conflicts and locations.
i think it would be better to go even further back, maybe 1812 or independence war
@@thepuncakian2024 While there were still WWII tech in the Korea war. there was also a lot of new tech that was developed and arrived too late, like the F86 and Mig15, the Pershing tank. I love the idea of cold war global conflict as a setting! especially if they will also develop some single player campaign and for multiplayer they will allow rental servers that are customizable so you can simulate historic battles.
I just want Battlefield to be Battlefield again.
BF1 operations was solid. They need to bring back small player count game modes.
I personally hoped for the Vietnam or Gulf war, the shutdown of Ridgeline also worries me, Battlefield is one of my favourite franchises and I just hope that we finally get another good Battlefield game.
Same here, especially with the floundering of Burning Lands it offers a great opportunity for a revisit to Vietnam and with current gen graphics it would look beautiful whilst also having enough assault rifles, grenade launchers and such to satisfy the more casual fan base who are more familiar with these more modern weapon systems.
It's time to wrap it up for the BF franchise and make alternative servers for the old prequels.
I think it's very strange that EA decided to shut down an entire studio that was brand-new simply because one of lead guys decided to leave. Imagine if Microsoft shut down 343i when Bonnie Ross left instead of just replacing her like they did.
Unlikely they closed it because he left... announcement to close followed departure much too quickly. More likely is he left because he knew they were gonna close it.
@@1htalp9 EA's own press release says they closed the studio because Marcus Lehto decided to leave. But who knows what really happened. Lehto himself posted on Twitter about it and seemed shocked that EA would lay off the team he just spent the past year hiring.
the franchise is dead they should have done this earlier, spare us from 2042
I just want a BF3 Remaster
Id like both 3 and 4 remaster
I’d like bf1 to have bots added to all the game modes and co op modes.
@@mrdrums007Add bots to 3 4 and 1 and I'd be happy. They don't even need to rerelease, just so I can still play after the servers shutdown. I still play 1942 because bots!
Battlefield 3 was PEAK Battlefield
@@rexman971 agreed!!
*"All is well on the home front"* Yea, right...
Imagine creating a game that could change period conflicts as easily as a skin.
What we NEED is a better version of BFV. An anti-cheat, better maps, atmosphere and immersion like BF1, a couple animation and minor graphical changes, and we have the BFV we need.
i am saying the same since years.. just get what was good in BFV and BF1, movement, gunplay, destruction, sounds, visuals, put it in BF4 era and we are done. I will play it till the end of my life. I could welcome a firestorm 2.0 it was really underrated! But the focus is on core multi gameplay
Agreed!@@carrast
Agree with your thoughts. After 2042 skipped a SP campaign, I was really interested in what they'd come up with. Obviously multiplayer remains the most important mode, but some BF single player moments have been the greatest in my experience of gaming
Thanks for the hard news and jokes at the end.
EA just trying to make that profit and ended up laying off a ton of people to try to make that happen. I feel Marcus got word of this ahead of time and resigned before that news came down.
I'm glad someone of quality is still covering battlefield ❤
Damn i was hoping for cold war era, i keep my expectation low then
and nothing of value was lost
I agree Flack Veitnam would be a cool setting or korea modern is over done
I think that time frame is perfect. Exactly what we wanted last time but yet again, Dice didn’t listen
1:38 I doubt that people want a game set in the past again, but I feel like most people will agree that a 2025-2030 setting is a great starting point. (Although I still think that a game about the Korean War should be a thing someday.)
just give me Gulf War era and i'll be over the moon
Korea would be bf1 with mostly WW2 weapons. That might be a bit of an oversimplification.
Soviet-Afghan war setting is grossly underused. Only time that comes to mind was a few select missions in Black Ops 2 but of course it had Americans in it smh 🙄
Games set in the past are the real root of the franchise. Not this futuristic BS.
No one gives a shit about the Korean War
Ah, man.
man i wished we could see a cold war scenario from the korean war all the way to the gulf war, with multiple wars to boot left in the dark, yet here we are having another modern warfare scenario again... hopefully we gonna have Ukraine, Taiwan and even Africa or the Middle East with Israel
all I want is a game like bf3 and bf4. Hello0o...DICE...., are you alright? Can you move?? (shaking dice violently to wake up)
Track id?
This has “corporate meddling” written all over it. 🙁
This don't mean much! Most companies are laying off and condensing to save money. Inflation is very high at the moment.
I made practically a book of a comment on another video about this subject but in short I've been in leadership positions/middle management at a few of the largest retail corporations in the US and being in a middle management role gets incredibly tough if you genuinely care about your people (the ones that are good and deserve it at least) and even more so if those above you are bad at their jobs or just don't care. I've been told I had to fire people that were literally my best associates simply because when they had worked in another department they got in trouble and then months later in my department my boss's boss sees that associate on his phone in one instance. It literally took me lying and getting one of my peers to also lie and say we wrote of that person when we just took him in the office for the cameras to see and me not putting the fake write up in the system and me telling my boss that if he wanted to fire that dude so bad then I would also be leaving since they kept protecting the idiots that I wanted/needed to fire (including some of my peers that my bosses had me helping because I was fairly good and they sucked which also took time away from my people) and trying to get me to fire the ones that had that stuff that you just couldn't teach which is far more important than anyone realises. Also that associate nor any others ever knew that I had to do that/did that. I only told him enough to keep his story straight and put the blame on me if my boss asked him about it and I say that because most of my guys left and said it when to shit when I left but in reality it was shit the entire time they just didn't know it. Anyway point is I've been put in that position a few times and have only been written up once or twice in my life and once I was the scapegoat and the other time it was for paperwork essentially so it wasn't like I was some screw off and I would be willing to bet Marcus Lehto was put in a similar position where EA or whatever the powers that were forcing him to do things he didn't agree with and/or had a negative impact on everything including his people and he tried to get the powers that be to change and do the right thing but finally just decided to leave and that would also make sense with the lunch party twitter post of all his people just before he left being one last gift to them before it went to shit because of those above him. Also if you read his tweet at 3:40 it seems like there are several double meanings in there like 'thanks for allowing me to listen while I was able' and 'your input WILL (not has) help make battlefield stronger'... Anyway hopefully I'm wrong but that gives me very little hope for the next BF game and hopefully someone leaks more info about him leaving. Also yeah this turned into a book too so yeah...
Hard disagree on saying the setting needs to be in the past. The fanbase wants a return to form of bf3 and 4. Being a few years in the future isn’t the same as 2042. It’d be essentially a modern setting. Bf4 was set in 2020 after all.
In battlefield, we trust
Marcus Lehto was one of the names that was giving me confidence in the next Battlefield. EA has shown how out of touch they are with what gamers want, and two huge assets for the Battlefield franchise (Lehto and Ridgeline) are now gone.
If they’re going with this time. Period they can fix them backstory that isn’t truly told for 2042 like the natural disasters and nations falling apart.
please lets not go back and revisit history again! 2142 was such a great idea and good game! also the return to it at the end of BF2! that was an artistic creation.
Look how their most recent attempt did. At this point a historical setting is needed whether that be Vietnam, Gulf War, Afghanistan etc. Yet another game in an almost identical time setting seems lazy and lacking in imagination and sets itself up for failure as it will essentially be more of the same.
Honestly they can still do the massiive player count, there is nothing wrong with that. They just need good map design. Very disappointing they are having a major focus on BR, no one has asked for it. Honestly i think the should rerelease BF5, more maps, weapons, etc. BF5 was honestly really good, its just that one trailer that through a lot of people away
They could easily go and make a prequel to Battlefield 2 with a campaign and show what led to that war. It’s a modern era and veteran players would love to play that, meaning EA would make a ton of money if the game is built well ☹️
I really want a proper BF2/2142 successor that builds on the template but with better production values and gunplay amongst other QoL aspects/features. But Beede and the news of the Gauntlet mode focused on small squads... does not give me hope at all. Just something CoD fanboys will devour but then drop it after a month or two.
Before BF2042 announced I remember anticipating the best parts of BF4, BF1, and BF5 built upon for it but it was immediatley clear that wouldn't be the case. If the next BF focuses on a f2p battle royale mode, I worry it'll become similar to what COD has ....horrible to no campaign and no attention to multiplayer maps/content.
i just wish crossplay was only on consoles, pc integration undoubtedly turns some people off myself included ( i own a good pc )
It makes cod frustrating for me as a console player . Too many pc players tracking me through walls .I play xbox with kbm so get put into mainly pc lobies.
@@tarantularamblings3149 yeah thats one of the main reasons is because more accessible cheating
I think they should explore the War of 2020 further - the European theater (left out in BF4, which favored the Pacific theater)
people still playing this is the biggest mystery to human existance.
Not sure how 2030 is different from the 2042 timeline. Rip Ridgeline. And Marcus. Wouldn't be our first rodeo, though. Strap in.
As a veteran fan I will enjoy how DICE's new BF Battle Royal will end up being another failure because they never learned that following trends instead of sticking to the core gameplay was what the community really wanted all along.
i have no faith in this franchise anymore
I don't necessarily think the 25-30 year range is bad, but it definitely has to be before all of the goofy 2042 stuff. A sequel to Battlefield 4 even, that could maybe let them retcon 2042. Thats just wishful thinking though. Im gonna have to hard disagree on Vietnam or Korea though, historical games at this point should be left to indie devs that actually have a heart in it other than cosmetic monetization.
With how many studios and projects closed by EA, it really makes you wonder if they're doing anything right. Millions of dollars and only 2 or 3 games to show for it.
Creating a bad company esque game would give the community at least something. 16v16 I'm fine with. Bad company was an incredible series
I find myself in complete agreement. And nothing shows what EA is really thinking more than "a battle royale like COD's Warzone" They care only about $$$ even if it means every Battlefield player says 'up yours' and takes their $$$ with them.
wasn't it leaked back in 2022 that the next game would be between 2030 and 2035 and would be a prequal to 2042?
Makes me feel glad that BF1 is my favourite, EA can never tarnish It’s name!
BF1 and BF3 are top notch.
In all honesty, i really would have preferred something more daring from dice. The battle royale bs, problems about studios shutting down and the narrative stuff getting thrown out the window and the modern setting wich would be pretty repetitive are pretty nasty things for the franchise
Imagine if they call the next Battlefield a ''Modern day shooter'' and they just re-release Battlefield 4
4 classes -- well, BF2042 also has '4 classes' now. I hope they return to the older system and not 'specialists categories' instead classes. And what I would like to know: does it have a scoreboard, all chat, RSP or all the other core features that were missing at the start of BF2042.
Expect scoreboard to be a tier 100 unlock for one of the season one Battlepasses(premium) that will be delayed a few months after release.
Omg. What the hell is going on 🤦♂️ P.S couldn’t agree more. Vietnam or Korea would be great
Korean War would be trash
Next one is gonna suck aswell right ?
Im waiting for EA/Dice to mention that the next game "will be a love letter" thats the point where i will walk away(will still watch the fires from a distance)
Go play your Pus*** COD dude, Bf is not for u
Battlefield Korean war would be cool But what about battlefield Russian Japanese war?
No one gives a shit about Korean War,That would literally be the worst Battlefield ever
But but but but modern audiences......🔥🤣🔥
thanks investors
Do video game companies even know what they are doing anymore?
No
Questionable decisions by EA yet again, can't say I'm surprised. I'm really hoping for a Korean war title, but 2025-2030 will just be BF4 2, which is itself BF3 2, no risks, no originality just another attempt at fan service.
Oh hell nah we had 3 big league battlefield games battlefield 1, battlefield 5 battlefield 1942 these games were big dogs but it thinks time to set down from anything world war 2 and stay between the range of modern day I'm being honest this is not what the battlefield community needs, we need a modern game that has a launch that isn't buggy we don't need to be known as the franchise known for histroical war games if they wanted to have a chance going modern / present day is way to go only exception would be a bad company 3.
I disagree with going back to Vietnam as they have already done it with BF bad company 2. A modern take or even a remake of BF4 should be fine as we can all consider that 2042 was and still is a shadow of an actual Battlefield experience.
Flakfire are you Skynet (AI)???
If I was, I would have taken over Battlefield
RIP Battlefield.
EA wants to be bought, and all these movements may lean toward it. They need to have some bad things happening, like BF games and something good to attract buyers like EA Sports. So there you go. Another one under the Microsoft umbrella soon!
Letting Lehto go, bad! But if goes back to Halo, that will be good for md
Bad Company 3 or I'm gonna keep hoping any other new BF game flops so DICE finally shuts down permanently
Dont want Korean war or any older war.... keep it current. Those old weapons are not appealing.
Flakfire into the FIRE. Yes, LOL.
No one wants Battlefield to become COD, so this is really sad to hear. All we want is a great Battlefield 1 style game with ramped up destruction and youll get everyone and gheir mother buying that.
Nah the next game 100% should be 2030's. It would be the perfect blend of modern and future warfare that we SHOULD'VE got for 2042.
But that’s exactly what we have got, near future. We need a present day or near past setting such as the Gulf War or heck even revisit Vietnam. Battlefield 4 I believe was very near future but that worked and is lauded as one of the best in the series but that was because it felt far more grounded in present times and had more effort with even water based vehicles implemented giving a true combined arms experience. I wouldn’t be entirely opposed as long as it is done sensibly without operators and clear communication with the community. Another risk of doing another nearish future game would just beg the question why not put effort in with 2042?
People thinking 2042 is too futuristic don't realize we're already living in the future
You on drugs?
DO NOT PRE-ORDER!!! Pull up a seat and watch the dumpster fire burn with a beer ❤
Easy fix, bring back Battlefield 1 and BFV support 😂
After being betrayed by a franchise as hard as BF2042 did, I only have 2 words for battlefield. Good Riddance. I'm sticking with The Finals.
i just hope EA goes under before they butcher this brand more than they already have
I would not be surprised if the new ones broken at lauch too and it takes a month to fix it just like all their crap that's the EA way 😂
F.fire after months!!!
Give development lead to Ripple Effect and disband EA Dice
Hell yeah DICE deserves to get shut down and I'm definetly holding my breath for it and praying with all my might it happens
2020-2021 ruined Battlefield and many other franchises. We're currently going through a great gaming recess, where many companies are mass-firing staff members and deviating resources from projects that were cancelled in silence.
👇Early Gang
I don't want Battlefield to be The Finals, or Fork-knife. I don't want games I play to become more like the games I don't. I don't play COD so why do I want Battlefield to mimic COD gameplay? I don't.
Haven’t watched a video of yours in a while and keep forgetting that battlefield is even being played by gamers right now. They need to drop 2042 as soon as possible. EA has done such a disservice to fans since they torpedoed BFV
Really??? A Battle Royale???? That's the last thing we want from a Battlefield game! I hope Embark Studio will continue the legacy of Battlefield. Since almost all of the Ex-DICE developers are on that Studio, plus we know what their capabilities are, based on The Finals. They may not have the Battlefield name, but surely they can give us a TRUE Battlefield game.
There are people in EA who want to purposely sabotage Battlefield. They want to make games that are playable for ALL gamers. Mil-Sim type games are too real for them and they way to make games like Fortnight and Apex where it's made for kids not adults.
I honestly hope the next game fails, im sick of brs and live service models in battlefield and the only way to get old bf back is if this new model loses ea money.
The last few bf games where crap and i had enjoyed it was better to use the old style like bf3 or 4. But future must stay dead same with the specialists
Battlefield Vietnam
Unfortunately I don't see a good battlefield game coming. The franchise is dead as far as I and many others can tell. The devs that made battlefield good are gone, and EA is intent on trying to milk every cent they can out of what's left. It's all just half-assed trend chasing and trying to monetize more when the base game continues to deteriorate.
Dont get the people who want korean war, dumb timeline. Literally nothing bit ww2 equipment. What would be cool is a late cold war gone hot scenario
Exactly my thoughts,There's literally not a single soul in sight that rootes for a Korean War setting,I hope it never happens because it would be woke and historically innacurate garbage
Ah, yes. Another Battle Royale... EA isn't giving up on trying to dethrone CoD Warzone, instead of, oh,idk, making a good *Battlefield* game. Meanwhile, Battlebit is doing a better at Battlefield than Battlefield. Dice do be truly a shell of itself, just like Bioware
Yeah, the franchise is pretty much dead
They're STILL trying to make a BR mode? Talk about late to the game. And guess what, no one is interested, STILL!
Maybe they learned from BF-V Firestorm.... Maybe not. We'll see. I preorder BF-V, and that taught me to never preorder a game again. I bought BF2042 for $9.95, but have not installed it. Seeing Steam bam/refund "The Day Before", I don't think DICE/EA are at this level of decay, but, until you, TeaBag, Stodeh, Level cap, and other say the game is "good" I'm not touching it. Remember the BF-V Beta. We all learned even early peeks may deviate wildly from actual.
Everybody and their mama should know they had their chance to squeeze in the battle royale scene with Firestorm from BFV. Hopefully we all can see this coming from a mile away, because I can see this not even reaching the surface from a galaxy away.
Problem with EA is it's all about Profit and not the product. They killed every awesome game they made intentionally. BF2 BAD COMPANY BF1 WW1 and meny others. I stopped playing after yrs of BF cause of this and through their greed comes there demise
With all these layoffs and Marcus Lehto leaving,I can't help to feel we are headed for another trash BF game.
We truly are,Except if its BC3,That would literally save the entire franchise yet EA thinks it wouldnt sell
@@DJPUPPETMASTER-RESURRECTED- BC2 was a great game, people have been asking for BC3 for ages it's about time EA start's listening to what fans. I would love to see BC3 come out next
But the reality is the new battlefield game gonna be good because 2042 to me the game was good for maybe 3,4 months and then it died out again this crap in the beginning and it was crap right now.
Pleas not another battleroyale mode.m
Campaign is trash, almost no one plays it and it's a waste of time and money. You can even see barely anyone even tries it via Trophies.
Exactly,I dont get it why the majority of BF fanboys cried for 2042 not having a campaign mode,Battlefield Campaigns are all equally garbage except Bad Company series and BF2 Modern Combat
@ETMASTER-RESURRECTED- Literally just Bad Company was good. Idk why either. They can't explain why a company should waste their money on such a feature no one even plays. Just emotion and "Was in old one!" Now class system destruction? yes. We shouldn't be asking for them to waste time and money ion trash like campaign , they need to focus on Multiplayer.
@@refugeehugsforfree4151 Exactly man,Its not like Battlefield has great campaigns with tons or content or replay value,They're all equally just one and done trash experiences everyone forgets about as soon as they finish it,Therefore I'm glad Ridgeline Games got shut down....Just like you said,Imagine wasting time and money on something nobody even plays
Who cares about a battle royal ? They always say they are making a free battle royal and they are going back to there roots .😂 Dont ever trust EA . don't ever buy a bf game till its been out for at least three months . 😂
