Anything that can add to safety has to be embraced. In inclement weather this really could save the day.
Thumbs up for the Knight Rider reference.
But at the end @captainJoe still didn't explain the reference.
@@Dirk-van-den-Berg he did at 9:10
Thanks buddy :)
❤❤❤❤ THIS RAAS system is an absolute life saver!!!!!
Y’all I’m a nurse and I saw the title and in my head I’m like what is a pilot doing talking about RAAS in medicine RAAS is the renin angiotensin aldosterone system. Which is one of the systems in the body that tries to compensate for a low blood pressure. Turns out I can never turn off my brain hahaha. I’m glad I watched the video for added context 😅
That is a funny coincidence that the have the same abbreviation :)
5:45 better callout would be „Harrison Ford! Harrison Ford!“😂
Could happen to anyone!
Presumably it also has "Caution: Wrong airport". Doesn't happen often, but it has happened more than once.
No not really!
The 737 MAX includes some other features as well like the OVERRUN warning for long landings, MAX REVERSE, SPEEDBRAKE, etc. The first one takes into account runway condition selected via the fmc.
Good info!
Nice vidéo ! Insigthfull !
Dear captain you are just so amazing I really appreciate your passion to teach new aviation students!👌
Joe: "That's what she said." Nice. 😆
Hi Captain Joe, we missed having weekly content if yours I always appreciate your efforts and consider myself lucky to watch your videos safe travels
Now that's a lovely comment :) Thanks buddy :)
Been a fan since 2018
This is great news...I have seen many videos where the pilots were confused or unaware of fog in bad weather aw well as ATC not being able to see them.
Leave it to a German to sneak in a David Hasselhoff reference. Well played sir, well played. So happy to see new releases again!
Thank you, interesting video.
So glad you’re back to making these videos! Let’s get started!
I'm on it :) And having fun with it!
At 3:29 you show a surveillance radar, not a ground radar which are sometimes placed at the top of the control tower like here in ATL. It’s a smaller rectangular shaped digital shape. On a side note, some airports will place another one between runway(s) and vehicle highways to negate false returns like we have here in ATL. We actually have 3 ground radars in ATL for redundancy.
PS Captain Joe, love your videos!!
Could you expound on this? If I’m understanding smaller remote radars are placed between runways/roadways and this is fed into the primary ground radar to show a more comprehensive picture in a single display? Always been curious how airport ground radars work given the huge number of vehicles and aircraft movements around large bulky structures
"That's what she said". God we all love you, Joe 😅
RAAS is what Jamaican pilots say as they roll off the end of the runway!
Love these informative videos you do, glad to see your videos coming up again
Thanks buddy :)
Great video as always Captain Joe!
Thanks buddy!
Great video!!!
Großartige Videos. Als Aviation Begeisterter find ich sie mega inspirierend. Bitte weiter machen!
Danke Dir!
My only concern, as with all the lane guidance and collision avoidance systems in automobiles is that the more we become reliant on them for information, the more lax we become when driving or piloting. Hopefully, pilots are tested often enough that they don't let technology allow them to become sloppy.
Great to have you back, Joe!
Thanks Buddy!
That was awesome!. Thank you Capt Joe 🙏
Great to see your videos again!
Thanks buddy!
Joe, it sounds like it doesn't warn of runway conflicts such as that with the KLM jet in Tenerife. This system only seems like a semi-smart system lacking a lot of data input of the live environment around it. Needs much more improvement.
For that you have TCAS (TA on ground). Any time an aircraft is entering an active runway (even if its just crossing it), the transponder is turned on, so one can see other planes on the system
Great video Jo
Interesting to hear that RAAS is calling out remaining distance in meters not feet.
I'm sure you could have that changed if you wanted to
very interesting video Joe! really enjoying the uploads :) I found a plugin for X-Plane that simulates RAAS which I will use in the future now considering its a standard option on new Boeing aircraft, had no idea about that!
hi luxplanes - yes RAAS is very useful for safety, judging by the situation being is in, boeing should do whatever they can to improve their planes' safety love your videos too :D
Thanks Ryan!
Красавчик Джо!! Спасибо за великолепное видео. Ты как всегда обоятелен, и привлекателен. Удачи пилот!!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I know a guy who was involved in programming for the general aviation side of CFIT prevention.
07:20 not sure this is a flaw. Short r/w for type is a fact. Aircraft configuration is ambiguous. I feel system states fact, pilots then confirm to themselves their config is ok for short r/w. Keeps pilots thinking rather than relying on tech. Interesting video!
It’s about time the big jets caught up with the small ones. ForeFlight has had this system sent by Bluetooth through my headset for years now in my corporate jet.
Yes ForeFlight is an incredible tool!
Great video! I saw a great addon for the flight simulator for RAAS. It’s been great! What flight sim did you use in your video? Looks like P3D. Keep up the great work!
There are airports (Paro.. Bardufoss..) where it would be common to temporarily disable the GPWS to set up an approach - you'd have to be fully visual for the approach to be legal and not have the lady shouting at you.
Hi Captain Joe. Great video again. It could be interesting as a non pilot to know some thing about how fast the different airplains react to the stearing and throttle and so on. If a small cestna faster to gain speed vs a 747 and so on? And what about the control?
I would 1:1.
RAAS is a lovely bit of KITT. 👍😎🇦🇺
AAAAAhhh, what a cool comment. I should have said that in the video :)
I was on a flight, at 13,000 ft and ‘CAUTION TERRAIN PULL UP DON’T SINK PULL UP’. At 13-14000 ft that’s a stunner. Descending thru clouds, over the Andes, and the pilots had the MFD on weather radar. When the MFD was set to TAWS it was blood red. So he’s right. If hear that anywhere other than over the numbers, and definitely not at 13,000 ft over 16,000 mountains. Way below MEA or MSA (?). That was a post flight discussion.
That's what she said Jajaj we love you captain Joe
Hello sir, big fan here.. Love from India🇮🇳🇮🇳
is it available with Kennedy Steve's voice?
That would be amazing!
That would be amazing ;)
Really interesting ! You talk about Boeing, but I ask myself if there is a similar feature on airbus ? (Sorry, I am french 😂 !) Fly safe ;) !
Cool 😎 ❤
0:13= elevated pucker factor.
"It sounds unbelievable, but Air Canada finds a way."
First nice one Joe!
Runway awareness and advisory system and enhanced ground proximity warning system
Love the knight Rider reference 😂😂😂 well done...
Thanks buddy! Wasn't to sure if the future generation of pilots even knows about KITT :)
Did he went full Steve Carell with a "That's what she said"??? hahahahahahha LMFAO!!
I kinda did ;)
That was hilarious@@flywithcaptainjoe
Great job captain Joe but the system needs more upgrade and added features.
I thought a small black dot in front of the desk lamp back there was a speck of sand or dirt on my screen. Turns out it's really there on that lamp 🙈.
Top number,👏👏👋👋👍🇦🇺
Is RAAS system is available on all airbus planes?
This is a great video, but can you tell me when your book is going to be restocked, because when I go to Amazon to buy it, it shows that your book is sold out and that you might restock it later
Hmm, that's strange, from where are you ordering? I mean which country do you live in ?
Would the Japanese coastguard plane have had the warning system to remind them they were on a active runway maybe it wouldnt have RAAS onboard but it could do with it on rescue planes
Could this system have helped avoid Singapore 006?
Why are the distances in meters when the majority of flight measurements are in feet? Are the units (metric vs.imperial) selectable? We can pretty much guarantee that a firefighter in NYC at JFK doesn't know how long 300 meters is, but certainly knows 1000 feet. Plus, aren't runway distance signs in 1000 feet increments?
Very good comment indeed! This can be adjusted by the airlines! We have it in meters, being a European operator!
In Europe: All lateral (Runway length, Separation, Visibility) in Meters, all vertical (Altitude, Height) in feet.
can you land a dash 100 747 at a short runway
Waiting for truck makers to pick this up... 😅❤
Probably not a bad idea!
The black spot on the light has all my attention 🥴
is RAAS on both airbus and boeing?
Good evening captain. The RAAS as i understand gives oral warnings in case something is off. It doesn't give direct instructions to the pilots unlike the EGPWS. Is it possible that someone who is not fluent in English to get confused?
You have to be fluent in english to have a pilots licence. Its a requirement and one has to pass an examination for the same. PS fluent doesn't mean that english has to be a first language. Its more of one being able to understand and apply it practically.
Every bigger airplane should have such a system. But they could spend the system a better text-to-speech engine...
Does David Hasselhoff provide the voice for this warning system?
How cool would that be! ;)
Harrison ford needs two of these as a failsafe
I you would have KITT in your plane, you just would have to say: "KITT fly us to JFK" and KITT would do that en you could lean back. :) But back to that example of lining up on 04R at JFK instead of 04L. Now 04R happens to bee much shorter than 04L at JFK, maybe too short for a (fully loaded and fueled) B747. But when bot runways were to be of the same sufficiënt length for the B747 the RAAS would just say: "on runway 04 right". Will RAAS also check the runway programmed in the FMS, and thus say: "wrong runway" ?
Boa noite ❤
How would she differetiate between runways 04 and 22, or she doesn't care?
Meh, "Pull Up" is normally a bug in the add-on, probably safe to ignore it ;)
Does Airbus has it as well?
Yes Airbus comes with that system too!
Is this a new system? I have never heard of this system
THat's the impression I'm getting here.
It's been around since at least 2008.
It's been around for a while now!
Someone got a new book?!
Someone has had that book for three years ;)
Was willst du uns sagen?
Yet people still think the GPWS/EGPWS with the radio altitude read outs 😂
Hi Captain, Which is your opinion about Boing issues with new aircraft?
That is nearly a complete sentence.
@@kinghans6266maybe they can speak better in another language!
I love their planes! That's all I can comment on that, sorry!
Couldn't this system potentially make pilots dependent on it? What's it's error rate? I'd imagine getting it near zero would be pretty difficult.
For that you have training. Especially on threat and error management.
It's too bad these are optional extras and required. Does Airbus have something like this?
Closest airbus has you can say is ROPS/ROWS. Plus RAAS is a third party implementation, so it should be airbus compatible as well (someone can correct me if I am wrong though)
Yes Airbus has the same!
Someone better add RAAS on that Air Canada flight-
Sounds like my foreflight. But waayyyy more advanced
But soooo not approved for the airline industry ;)
Only for Boeing aircraft?
Airbus too!
❤👍🙏
Nice video, but when are we going to see more videos of Captain Joe, and the Dutch pilot girl together. we really miss them!. South Florida waving.
Videos with other female pilots are coming soon :)
Hello captain, how are you! Where is Dutch pilot girl these days!
I'm sure she's fine ;)
Better would have listened to their Ladies Voice at Tulsa, FedEx Flight 1170.
Helloww Captain Juliet Oscar Echo 👮
Who else is just watching out of curiosity and not wanting to persue a carrer in avi?
But does it announce when parts blow off? "No door! No Door!"
The incident you are alluding to, had no door sensors on that plug.
No :)
She?😂❤❤
Please post a video about Boeing's situation
There's another guy who does that. I don't ruin my relationships with Boeing and Airbus only for a video that gets a lot of clicks! Stay humble and be a good pilot :)
There must be a safety downside with systems like this if pilots become more reliant on them and use their brains less - and then the system fails.
Yes there is. Its called training.
First comment
no meaningful content, you lose... 😂
00:19 unterrated
There are 5 guys competing for first comment, I will settle for tied second place. Actually I will take top ten. Or top 1000. Who cares if your comment is first, just say something meaningful and be happy you get to have a say 😂😂😂 ❤
First!
late by 4 minutes mate 😂😂😂
As the quality of our pilots decreases, we need to increase the quality of our technology.
RAAS on Boeing planes: Caution! Whistle blower! Whistle blower!
Somehow annoying but okay
Enough of the stupid sexist attempts at humour.
Your videos are too quiet.
