** Why Do We Hunt Hogs? **
Feral hogs are a non-native and invasive species in Texas. Each year hogs cause millions of dollars in damage in the form of damaged crops, contaminated water supplies, broken equipment, transmission of diseases and injury to livestock.
Feral hogs compete with native wildlife for resources and also prey directly on the eggs and young of ground nesting birds and will actively hunt small mammals, frogs, lizards and snakes.
Due to their intelligence, adaptability, and prolific breeding habits, traditional methods of hunting and trapping have been largely ineffective in reducing the feral hog population. The introduction of night vision and thermal optics has greatly increased landowners' ability to mitigate the destruction caused by feral hogs.
Feral swine are not considered game animals in Texas and may be hunted by any means or methods at any time of year.

I swear, if I ever hear "whatcha got there, bud?" in real life, I'll probably hit the deck immediately.
I have zero issues with wild hogs being killed but that "whatcha got there, bud?" statement is annoying.
Yeah, very unprofessional and immature, really annoying. Why don't they focus on the job at hand and clean up as many boars as possible instead of that immature rubbish?
@@jackmorgan1677 pretty sure that helps them get a cleaner shot.
@@jackmorgan1677 It's to get the hogs attention, they freeze. They could have made any other sound and it will be same effect, hogs don't understand english.
Yeah - and that hog seemed to ignore them initially - how rude! I would have smoked its ass just for that :)
Feral hogs are now showing up in Texas urban cemeteries, suburban neighborhoods, and community parks. The population is totally out of control. We need more hunters harvesting them all over the State of Texas.
Man I can't wait to move to Texas I'll be in a nice red state with some hogs to hone my marksmanship, after many hours at the range of course......
It's just going to continue getting worse because these farmers who say that they have problems all want to charge $150 a day per hunter to kill these invasive species that apparently cause them so many problems. I guarantee you if these farmers allowed hunters to come out and shoot these hogs for free, you would eradicate the population real quick.
This is a nightly thing for us here in my part of Texas. We may not be winning the fight against the hogs, but Texan marksmanship is improving greatly!
When can I come down from Wisconsin?
that's why out in the Texas country there's not a big gang problem.
I will happily fly down with a half dozen friends, get us from the airport.
Have you considered using the "Hoggone" baiting system developed by Australian and USA research. You can take out a whole sounder, its environmentally friendly, kills within 2 hours of consumption, as it effects the oxygen within the blood and is considered humane. Its worth doing a search on it. You may get a more complete result at the time resulting in longer periods between breeding numbers jumping up. If you work in with neighbours farmers can really cut back on hog numbers, damage and costs. I have no financial or other interest in this product. As it is not a poison, therefore hogs cannot develop immunity or resistance to it.
@@geoffbreen2386 that looks really interesting. cheers

The wild boar population in the country of Latvia is out of control that people visit to go hunt them along with other big game like elk. In Riga there was a store that specialized in smoked meats and the smoked wild boar bacon jerky candy was absolutely delicious! Tasted similar to bacon with lots of flavor, but was leaner. It didn't have nitrates/nitrites and all that sodium. Sadly, I could not bring any back to the US.
So nice to know that someone's protecting our food crop from these invasive creatures Love your videos ❤️
We need to protect it from Bill Gates.
And Kanye West, he bought land in Idaho.
Now if only we could do this to whoever is burning down meat processing facilities and chicken houses.

Haha yo
If I ever here that phrase, I know I’m done for lol
How am I just finding out they have no natural predators 😂
Their are not enough Panthers around to effect them. And yes we do have them in Texas.
The only good thing about this plague being so difficult to exterminate is that at least you guys can keep doing your job and give new material to your channel.
@ 3:52 i about died! That was SO funny i nearly CRAPPED my pants from laughing! "LOOK WHAT I CAN DO" BANG!!!!! Love it!!!
And yet another Great Job, Guys! 👍🏻 Man, I wish I could be out there with you guys!
Superb! You are well skilled with the instinct for how far the barrel needs to be ahead of a galloping hog to drop it. The answer to the question though is, technology makes thermal hunting indispensable, it is so clear.
Great shooting and the footage is superb. I’m envious, in my younger days this would have been my pastime. Thanks for taking us along 👍🏻
Never too old to shoot a hog. Get out there man. Love life while you still can.
Thanks for the eradication. I like the idea of trapping the feral pigs and feeding the masses/people. I also like trapping a few pigs and tagging them with collars that transmit the locations of the "sounders" and then luring those packs of vermin to the traps. Use the "Judas pigs" to get the others.
I think ur videos are fantastic! First I've seen ur channel and I'm hooked
In my area of Texas, sometimes I kill all the hogs so that I cannot find them for a couple months. Then it starts over. I have been hunting almost every night for 3 years ever since they destroyed my field (not to mention my neighbors fields). I hunt on about 5 square miles, all surrounded by county roads so I can get them going in, and catch them coming out. However, we are really wooded in the "piney woods" so they don't hang out far from the wood line and being a one-man show it takes a couple weeks sometimes to get them all. I guess what I meant to say is yes, in the immediate area, it does make a difference...but you got to stay on it.
so you eat that hogs ?
@@hansremington I don't eat them, the local wildlife does. Gone in 24 to 48 hrs.
@@hammr6133 You need to get some of your buddies in on the action. If those hogs multiply faster than you can kill them, (it appears that they are) you'll never get rid of them.
@@sweeptheleg. When my buddies have down time they focus on beer...all the other land owners around me are either near blind, elderly, or in bed by 9, or don't have the funds to procure night vision equipment. I have two sets of head gear and I have had friends go with me from time to time but they didn't see any so they lost interest. Not used to helmet weight and cant stay out till 5 am. If I wanted to eliminate the problem more efficiently I would bait them in to a draw somewhere and use it as a slaughterhouse, but then I wouldn't get to stay up all night and listen to Crowder, Knowles, and Walsh. Besides, it keeps me sharp in terms of marksmanship and weapons transition.
I wish i could be over there me and my 2 dogs will catch a great number of them shoot them at night dog them during the day
As much h as I enjoy the night hunting with thermal, you do not put a dent in the population of.wild.hogs in Texas. In SC, we have stopped thermal hunting at night( our group of 6 hunters) and gone to trapping. We are trapping most of the time complete Sounders with numbers that far surpass thermal. Farms that we have under contract to trap have seen a 70 +% elimination rate with a 80 % cut in field and crop damage.
Most don't understand killing some is not control. Most kill some, wound and scare more away for awhile. It makes actual control (where damage is reduced to an acceptable level for the required time (e g crop rotation) much harder. Large mobs make shooting difficult, the traps seem superior. Poison is lethal if allowed, but a few still avoid it and need trapping/shooting.
I agree as seeing videos of folks catching over 10 which is a good day if using a rifle. Use what ya can
Trapping using the new net style traps like Pig Brig and Carolina Trap is the best solution for hog control.
But not as fun
its not just to control, its the hunt, the kill, the thrill! you trapping is great, but id rather watch this man hit these mfers on the run! its human nature, THE HUNT
I have lived in Texas my whole life and I am tired of seeing videos of people saying these farmers have a hog problem and it's getting worse. I have a slew of responsible, mature hunters who would gladly come mop up their hog problem for free, but when you talk to these farmers, suddenly they want $150 a person per day! If you really had a hog problem and wanted them eradicated, they wouldn't be trying to charge hunters to shoot them! We would bring our own feeders, use our own corn, and it would literally not cost the landowner a single penny, but yet they still want to charge. This is why the hog population will continue to get worse and worse.
wow really, thats crazy, document it, show us
Classic American capitalism. I see no problems here.
source pls
@@stanis8431 yeah but you can't complain about a problem on your farm, then when people show up to help kill the problem hogs, you try to charge them money. This would be like a friend coming to help you fix your roof and then you try to charge him for coming to help YOU.
@@darklurker5716 there are signs all over Texas from farmers who are trying to charge money for shooting problem hogs. Plus you can't post links in KZhead, they will delete the post. I'll find the keywords to Google and post them here then you can type them in Google and see for yourself.
I'd love to do this. It looks like so much fun. I love the way they squeal and scatter.
it's amazing to me how much they can repopulate. It's so bad here in some places that it is taking every resource available to eliminate them, that includes automated fenced-in traps that are remotely triggered, shooting from helicopters that really can make a dent in their numbers, and night vision hunts like this. Not one of these is the complete answer but combined all these techniques have made a huge difference in certain areas.
@michele langston except the birth rate is far below the replacement rate and more people have dogs then babies now. You should really do research before you spew idiotic things. Especially since in 50 years humans will be reproducing at such low levels there won't be a replacement work force.

2:47 that’s on hard headed hog, to deflect that round like that!!! 😯
no that's normal their heads are weary hard and durable (trait all pigs feral & domestic share) it helps them with digging up soil when looking for roots, worms etc. and it translates in fact that shooting pig in face does not guarantee its kill. Doesn't help that escaped domestic pigs weary quickly becomes almost like feral ones, its why pig is most common invasive species in world.
You should make a second channel, "Hey, what you got there bud?"...just for those kills using that technique. LOL

I made a post regarding hunting vs trapping. I was going to purchase a thermal, but after watching 100's of shooting and trapping videos I decided to go with a trap, the Pig Brig; at least that's my plan. Hog shooting is a great tool to hone your marksmanship, not to say a great time! So my plans are to trap and if I mis a few I'll let the hunters know and we'll come in and do a mop-up with the rifle. Any way you put it a dead hog is a good hog regardless of the method of taking. Keep your eyes on TX, at some point there will have to be a program to pay hog trappers. There is just no way to keep up. When I do shoot I make every attempt to identify and shoot the sows.
Ya butt the pigs get wise to traps fast
Why not both. Traping and hunting ??
@@GuderII pigs are smarter then dogs and learn to avoid traps quickly.
Why not trap the ones you can and shoot the rest. Their are so many people that will pay to kill every hog they see if it was affordable.
