** Why Do We Hunt Hogs? **
Feral hogs are a non-native and invasive species in Texas. Each year hogs cause millions of dollars in damage in the form of damaged crops, contaminated water supplies, broken equipment, transmission of diseases and injury to livestock.
Feral hogs compete with native wildlife for resources and also prey directly on the eggs and young of ground nesting birds and will actively hunt small mammals, frogs, lizards and snakes.
Due to their intelligence, adaptability, and prolific breeding habits, traditional methods of hunting and trapping have been largely ineffective in reducing the feral hog population. The introduction of night vision and thermal optics has greatly increased landowners' ability to mitigate the destruction caused by feral hogs.
Feral swine are not considered game animals in Texas and may be hunted by any means or methods at any time of year.

    • Let's say all the crops get eaten in Texas because you want them to be living rent free like a sanctuary. These hogs, which are the definition of invasive species, will then migrate to other states. Texas losing agriculture will already be a big punch to the economy, imagine the other states having the same problem. But you are not able to do that. You only see "hunter bad". These are exterminators for a genuine pest. Texas gives permission to use anything in your arsenal to control their population because they actually think and know it's a problem. The only time this has backfired was Australia hunting wild cats for killing birds and other small animals. I don't know if you heard the news but they are now at war with mice. The reason why hogs are a different case is because they have no predator in Texas and are not benefiting at all with what they eat. They don't eat mice or other vermin. They are the giant vermin. Literally no other animal can make a dent in their population. Only humans can balance that or else agriculture be damned. No more vegan options and no more feed for livestock, so both vegans and meat eaters lose.

I understand why they do it and im not necessarily against it because they are basically just protecting land and lowering numbers that are obviously too high. • @@robertelias3431 No no no. That’s not what I mean. I really don’t like this. This is not ethical. They just spray 50 or 60 rounds of 556 (which is waaay to small) or 308 at some animals. Killing mothers, letting the young ones run away and reproduce even worse because they don’t have a Leader now that controls the breeding behavior of the group. They don’t even care about finishing off the animals they injure. They just let them lie there suffering. And the shits are very very inaccurate. Some are very good but they mostly just shoot like 3-5 or even 6 times at one pig destroying their legs, intestine, hind legs, spine which makes them paralyzed and then if they are lucky, they die in the next 10 seconds. If you really have some knowledge of how hunting and everything works, you will find this absolutely horrible

    • @@danijel2045 Well I reckon I agree with your latest comments. If you shoot an animal don't wound it and let it get away. I hunt down anything I shoot, and make every attempt to not leave a wounded animal out there. Even though they are invasive and destroy property, I respect life.

It takes several years for that acreage to return to production. More power to these guys for removing an problem. Now if we could get the pythons gone from Florida, well that would be a huge help as well.

  • I myself cannot do this but fully appreciate the conservation work that these guys are doing for Texas and at least the meat goes to good use. I'm from South Africa and their are many game and eco tourist reserves close to where I live. Well managed hunting of even native species is a huge conservation tool. Many of these areas were previously cattle, goat and sheep farms but hunting is very lucrative which in turn, if there is a value to something it is well protected. Now vast tracts of land have been restored to their natural habitat and entire eco systems have recovered and many threatened species have bounced back because of this.
