This week at the chateau, we take a look back at when we bought the crumbling Chateau de Lalacelle. Abandoned for over 40 years, this beautiful monument was in a sad state of disrepair, with crumbling chimneys, broken widows and leaking roof, the chateau did not have must life left in her.
But 3 years on and now the chateau is back to life with a unbelievable makeover, and the reveal of the new 400 suite.

About us,
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.

I remember it also in the beginning. Like a jungle outside and rotten inside, but they saw potential, and made it work. You could see how the cottage came on that they were learning skills and had vision
It seems some Chateau’s are held together by dirt & hope, amount of dirt & rotten timber you’ve removed is astounding & so satisfying to see it gone. You’re all giving the Chateau new life again, loving your standard & quality frm what you started with. It’s So impressive, superb effort !

Putting this video together to show the progress from arriving in the jungle-infested grounds to the (almost finished) product is a bloody marvel. About half way through I just had a thought about all the taping and plastering that went into EVERY joint in all the plasterboard before any of it could be painted and have to acknowledge Ash's graft. But also respect to Demolition Mam who put so much into this magical transformation. Not to mention all the work on the gardens and grounds. Kudos guys - fantastic.

I can remember where you manouvered your caravan etc in formation to avoid the bitter cold... and the only fire was in the basement of the chateau... you lot were all as game as Ned Kelly ... as we say in Australia ...
