This is part 1 of a 9 part video series on how to rebuild a Toyota 4X4 solid front axle. In this video we show the front axle tear down procedures. It applies to 1979 to 1985 Toyota 4X4 Pickups and 1984 and 1985 Toyota 4Runners. These instructions can also loosely apply to the Toyota Land Cruiser and Suzuki Samurai. If you need parts, log on to www.lowrangeoffroad.com (or call 801.805.6644) your one stop shop for Suzuki and Toyota Parts.
It’s about time somebody did a video that gets to the point, and doesn’t drag out a five minute video to an hour with lots of unimportant fluff! Good job guys!
The editing and preparation of the videos of this channel is outstanding, and help people a lot. So, it is a must to contribute. First and before tearing the axle apart, it must be checked if it rebuildable or not, e.g. large bent in the housing. Also, it must be checked for bent housing (I mean small one). The checking can be done by a water gauge. If it bent, then, during disassembly, it has to be address where is it. It is very simple inspection, however, it will tell us about the whole history of the axle and how to do the straightness of housing. By the way, a lot of housings come bent. Then, during disassembly of the kingpin bearings, the preload on them has to be assured otherwise, and especially if there is a play in them, the flange that holds the bearing race can be bent inward (pressed in due to excessive abuse) and the complete housing is a trash. It can be fixed either by pressing the flange outward or welding on a new flange. In both cases, the centering of the CV joint around the axle shaft seal is not assured. This means an oil leaking housing. All the bearing surfaces has to be inspected. Most service manual call for inception of part before, during and after disassembly for whatever can be inspected for expected wear and tear. Good luck
Been hitting the hub body for years to pop those cone washers out. Works perfectly everytime great job LOW RANGE👍🏻👍🏻
You all have won my business with this video series! I couldn't have done it without you.
Como armarla
Very happy to watch this video. Very clear and precise. Great job.
I just installed the ultimate solid axle kit on my 1983 4x4 yota and the new shims with the kit were way to thin. The thick and thin shim together were not as thick as the factory thick shim. I had to reuse the Toyota shims before anything would function properly so make sure you keep your old shims. Also for people like myself who have never done this job before it would be a great help to include a simple set of clear instructions to reference.
I love you. this video is saving my life.
I'm now starting a full service on a front solid axle.. I already familiar with the process but going through these vids for any tips i may not be aware of. Thanks for posting
+3stagevtec You are welcome. Thanks for watching!

Hola enhorabuena concejos saludos desde Georgia...
Reale good video!! THX.
Good video
Passenger side axle came out like butter driver side is acting stuck. The diff is supposedly broken so I’m trying to put a new diff in it. Wonder why the driver side so tough to take out. I’ll try it again tonight and hopefully comes out easier.
I wish my impact looked that new still
Thank you so much
good videos about good job
So if i'm only changin the frong 3rd member, i can just stop after i pull the axles out enough to clear the gears right?
Thank you uncle
sir thanks for giving knowledge pls show the rebuild video of samurai diffrential and gearbox and transfergear box thanks
+amit6430 We don't have a video on instructions you are requesting but we have full color pictures and text instructions on some of it: Here is the link to our Samurai Instructions Library: www.lowrangeoffroad.com/instruction-sheets/samurai-instuctions.html It shows instructions on the proper repair procedures on many Samurai Components including the transmission, Steering Knuckles, Axles, Brakes, Clutches and more. Thanks for watching our videos. We are your one stop shop for Suzuki and Toyota Parts. www.lowrangeoffroad.com/ We also have many Samurai Related videos on our KZhead Channel. kzhead.infovideos
sir pls show the assembly of sumari diffrential
nice job on these axle videos... i wanted to mention that there are shims under the steering arm and under the bottom cap, need to keep track of what shims went where when disassembling, so that it all goes back together properly centered... toyota sells an sst factory tool for measuring how much shim thickness you'll need to use, but i couldn't get it to be fully functional with the trail gear axle housing and longs, it was only partially useful... also, be careful about using a screwdriver or pry bar for the teardown, don't want to score or dent anything, although i ended up having to buy a new set of shims anyway.
Great advice! We really appreciate the feedback from our viewers. Thanks for viewing the commenting.
I have a 74 fj40 LC, would like to convert over to disc brakes up front. The knuckle on a 74 has no mounting brackets for the calipers. Would late 70’s early 80’s Toyota truck or 4 runner knuckle mate-up to the 74 axel housing?
terbaik videonya...done sb
Can the Toyota axle seals and knockle bearing and wiper seals work on a daihatsu rocky f85 soild front axle ???
@1:30 my LC has not a separated locking hub assembly for the dial so i assume there is no snapring? or how do i remove the dial?
So on my ln106 the whole swivel hub moves up and down and when the tyre is on it and truck is all sitting down normal you look at the right tyre and its perfect and you look at the left and its on an angle. The steering arm is all secured in tighy but the only problem is the swivel hub moving alot so what would the problem be?
That's good thank you
Thanks
super excelete
Very good job 👍👍👍👍👏👏👏👏👏👏❤🌷❤🌷❤🌷❤🌷
Thinks for this
why didn't you was all that mud before you start working?
Заеду к Вам на выходных,ждите)
good
What’s this parts kit called? Can’t find it on the site.
gotta love the harbor freight tools lol
Lol u for got they had one snapon hammer lmao
A good mechanic usually doesn't have big brand name tools
Rebuild means: disassembly and assembly as well, but only disassembly is presented ( inportant part )
do anyone have a repair manual for axles on pdf or know where i can find it?
Good
The lower knuckle bearing cap on my axle is loose but will only move up around 1/2 inch before it stops. All amount of prying and hammering will get it off. Any ideas?
pack in more grease
yeeh,read upper comment,FIT A D44 JEEP DIFF.toyotas suck.
can i just replace the king pin bearing without opening the hub
Holy shit, theres another side...plus cleaning, greasing and reassembling. I'm gonna need an amp and new speakers
Eres un maeestro
ugh... more incorrect cone washer removal... yota bros, don't strike the sides of the hub body with anything! Use a brass drift, and strike the studs head on with a nut even with the face of the stud!
+Philip Gragg Yes, we agree. Brass drift on the studs with the nut flush with the stud is the best way. If we revise this video we will be sure to include that procedure. Thanks for viewing and commenting.
Agreed... Was also thinking the same thing over here !
cool rig

The one job I’d dread on a Toyota..
what size bolt bearing???
Can this process be done without taking the entire axle out of the truck?
Of course
Hey there’s an 86 solid axle on at land cruiser at pull a part someone please get it. Too wide to swap on my 93 pickup.
is this process remotely similar for the Suzuki Samurai axles?
Yes, very similar. However, we are in process of making video for Samurai. Will post the first one soon.
lowrangeoffroad that would be amazing! You guys do so much for your customers. Can't wait to buy my parts soon.
Saludito
No es necesario golpear la parte cromada exterior, se golpean los espárragos con una varilla de bronce y un martillo, eso hace saltar las arandelas cónicas y se sacs fácilmente. Lo dice el manual!
Mr. you're Wrong already on the Differential bolt, by this you're supposed to take the top off before doing the bottom bolt. How're you going to tell everyone that taking the bottom off in this video and than to the top bolt. I do believe you do know you if you end up taking the bottom off and if you're unable to take the top off than more then likely you're screwed, due to the fact that you cannot refill the gear fluid back in. Plus I want to add to this is the bolt with washer and cones on the locking hub. you're supposed to leave the nuts/bolts towards the end of the stud so when you used that brass hammer to hit the comes off, you want able to mess up the studs and have the washer on the stud the cones will not be able to fly off. hope this help you're mechanics and to whomever is DIY. anyhow great video though
Price?
UUMMMMmmmm..... Just an observation.... Why didn't y'all use a pressure washer on the axle Before you started tearing it apart???
+Chuck Rodgers We asked ourselves the same question about half way through the disassembly. Thanks for the suggestion.
LOL! You sure we aren't related?
My mind and mechanical ability's are a terrible thing!!!!
@@lowrangeoffroad1 COWBOYS,!!..NO FKN IDEA.
I would degrease & pressure wash the axel before working on it
Nice work I too do this .I mean this my jop💓💓💞 lik it
Yipes...you had me cringing over here waiting for you to whack a stud with that Ball Peen Hammer... NEVER hit anything you are trying to loosen with Naked Studs so close and vulnerable to a Hammer Strike. Unless you enjoy using the micro files and or the ID threader kit to restore the Stud threads after hitting it with a Ball Peen... LOL Be Careful and have fun.
Maybe brass punch no more ohhh shit moment
Как у меня на уазе
this is thw whrong way to remove the cone washers
Ok
Re-assembly is out of order. Save yourself several hours and get a Factory Service Manual.
This is trumps voice sure!!
Buen.vídeo.pero.no.entiendo.nada.lo que.dise
How many times does he say " remove "? 🥴
Zamil Altamimi it’s a tear down
This is better then pornhub.
it might have been better to wash it all off before pulling it apart
i know how to re build,it,,toss in bin,fit dana 44.
😨👍🚜💨🚛💨
En francais langague please
Español
Aaa
Fuck that’s a lot of parts
Remove
video assume that 90% of Toyota axels are filthy and have never seen service since 1985... this assumption is correct
Can’t trust a mechanic that uses corn hole tools
Why rebuild get a real 4x4
dont listen to youtube videos , get a book.
haa,joke,frigin toyotas,10,000 tools,3 hammers,fuck me,i can replace a uni in less than 1.5 hrs,jack up jack down.just fit a jeep d44,fuck that shit.its been the same crap since 1954 &,,they still use it today.prehistoric mechanics.toyotas are a scourge on the earth.
Haha....ignorant
You're a great mechanic, but not so great with punctuation.
