I am just glad the iPhone is finally catching up to the features android has had for years. Y'all are going to love them. I know I have. 😁 Edit: I didn't realize yall cared that much. It is just a phone relax. You don't need to get toxic.
@@hadensnodgrass3472you just had to be that guy lmao
It's honestly the best feature to have on Pixel phones. We're going back to people actually having to state their business before you answer the phone.
The Namedrop animation is so clean.
U know it's nothing but NFC?

FaceTime voice(video?)mail is such a wonderful feature to finally have. Anyone with loved ones across the country or world knows how special it is to see and hear those people and have it saved. Sure, people can already record a video and message/email- but this feature will feel like a continuation of the old “please leave a message after the beep” that the grandparents/less tech-savvy people will actually use. Granted, I know half of the video messages will be a few seconds of grandpa and grandma waving their fingers around looking for the button to hang up… and I’ll love those too.
The personal voice feature is literally incredible. I'm going to get that setup as soon as possible. I don't even *need* a feature like this but it's super that I'm sure has a use case somewhere and is a really great example of up-and-coming technology.
The fact that I can finally "thank" Siri whenever I'm done asking questions like I do with my Google devices makes me happier than it probably should.
I like you
It’s a good idea to be nice to our eventual AI overlords.
OMG IKR??? It makes me so happy
Oddly I find Google Assistant responds quicker when I use pleasantries like please and thank you. Kind of makes sense since it also checks if you say things rudely like, "turn on my TV, idiot," as it will respond telling you to not be rude, so I guess if you say please it just ends computing? Idk why but it's notable and interesting
Me too!!!!
6:27 I never knew what to call this, but compared to Android this was one the most annoying things on iOS while typing. Good to see they finally addressed it.
Yessss. That’s the first and most important thing I miss about android. Well not anymore i hope
This was the reason why I was going to switch back to android but it seems they finally got smart!
My previous work phone was an iphone and that was so incredibly annoying compared to my Android. Especially because I am bilingual and I refuse to switch keyboards all the time because that's fucking stupid. I want to learn to type on one touch keyboard, not two slightly different ones.
That's why I immediately downloaded google keyboard when I switched to iphone.
It could be turned off
I really like that they have (brought back) the voicemail feature that landlines used to have hahah being able to interrupt the voicemail is actually super useful! Instead of playing phone tag where it will sometimes just tell you that you have missed a call from the person you are literally leaving a voicemail to, they will just interrupt your message and you can talk straight away This was a really cool video on the updated iOS! I haven’t seen heaps of your videos yet, but I have started watching a bunch that are about tech that I might only find moderately interesting just because I like how you talk about the tech: very honestly and with the end user in mind. Thank you
I get so many sales/junk calls a day it will be nice to see if i’m missing something and can pick up the phone.
I am a young person, but I remember back in 08 when I had a landline still. And I remember listening to the voicemail and thought the person was leaving a voicemail. It was a big surprise when picked up the phone and realized they could hear me too. I always thought this was a cool feature. And I’m happy they brought this into the modern era.
I think the whole voicemail thing is super cool actually. Like you said, it is like the answering machine back in the 90' / early 2000 but I think it's going to be a cool feature and the video message sounds good too. Can't wait to try these out.
Additional point on Personal Voice: it's also great for people like me with autism who may be nonverbal at times and need a way to communicate verbally without awkwardly writing things down or what have you. It's honestly very well thought out and I'm glad Apple added it.
Feels like one of those Accessibility features that will eventually grow into a full-fledged, advertised system feature
U dont meet friends at school 😠
I am sorry but I don't understand..don't you need to talk to the phone to unlock that feature and you still do need to type the things you want to say. So how does it help an autistic person? I just need to understand.
@@shivani__v "nonverbal **at times**
@@imneaoh okay..thanks! They said sometimes they have to write stuff to get the other person to understand but you still have to type that on the phone. I mean I don't understand the use of the feature. If I am someone who has verbal problems I'll just type the text and pass it on to the person next to me to read. That voice feature is pretty much redundant.
As a person with a stutter, I don't think personal voice was meant for me, but I can see it being super useful for me. There are days where it is really hard for me to communicate. Personal voice would let me order food and get help when I have days where I am having lots of difficulties.
As someone who also stutters this was my first thought! Pretty amazing and useful if in a public situation and the words are just not flowing!
So satisfying, Marques.
I feel your pain, friend
Thats c-c-c-cool
But would you become dependent on it and your speech, derivets to just mumbles and sounds?? Or would it just be a tool
something i've noticed with standby is that if you put it on a wireless charger it'll like remember the charger. i have one wireless charger on my desk and next to my bed and whenever i move from one to the other the clock changes. it like has a build in memory or something. super super cool little feature.
Oh, the voicemail thing... I remember it well from like the '90s lol. I'm waiting for my brother to call and when he goes to voicemail my screen shows, "hey, pick up the phone!!" hahaha
When Marques said hes “old” to say stuff like that, that legit made me feel old, I have been watching you since you recorded in your small dorm room almost a decade now and I am so glad the channel and everything worked out so perfectly. Great work bud!
I'm older than most of his audience 😅. I'll be 45 in a couple weeks. This is how I keep up with technology and the younger audience of influencers. ❤

Great video! I've been saying for years there should be a facetime voicemail video type thing. I also love the answering machine feature. another bonus, since the last update only lets you get airdrops from contacts, this bump feature will be helpful to get around that new update, assuming it will let you do it someone not in your contacts.
How could you miss the all new set ups for ringtones? It took Apple forever to change it and it’s so good and fresh! Loved these new tones!
The accessibility features are really nice in this update. As someone with a family member who had a stroke and finds it tough to speak, the fact that over time he could get through those sentences and then use it whenever he’s too tired to try speaking is much more personal than the current solution of texting.
You mention this, and my mom had a stroke herself almost a decade ago. If I told her about this, taught her how to use it, etc etc, she'd probably be an Android-to-iPhone convert (unless Google has or already Had something available already, Besides random app store downloads).

One feature that I've always wanted to be updated is the Optimized battery charging. What I mean by updated is I want to be able to choose when it turns on because I have a weird sleep schedule and am not always charging my phone at the same time.
Yes, please! I have no idea why I cant just have it turned on based on my set sleeping schedule in the health app
@@davidholas7523 That’s EXACTLY what I was thinking
I really wish there was a setting in that section which could let us choose what percentage we want our phones to be charged to. Like if I pick 80%, it just stays there without giving the phone more juice (unless it dips below 80%).
I used the Shortcuts app to turn on/off battery saver based on my sleep Focus. It’s not what you are asking for but it helps the phone not drain unnecessary battery while I’m sleeping.

I had a few android smartphones for over 12 years now and I finally understand what all those people were talking about. Thanks to Marques for sharing the new features and I hope to see more improvements like those in the future from apple.
Im planning to switch to apple from Android but for some odd reason, I'm apprehensive. You reckon it's worth the switch?
@@oswindavid6979 it is absolutely worth it . I couldn’t be happier switching to iPhone :) I even bought the air pod pros 2 and I am amazed ! It’s a switch worth doing. In the end this is technology you invest in , if you love innovations apple is the company to present them more friendly than android. They take you on a journey while in android you have most features you never use at all. I love the new iPhone 14 pro , Apple Watch is used for fitness and air pods pro 2 is my daily take with me product :)
Wow, it's incredible to see how technology has come full circle! As the CMO of the original company "Bump" that was acquired by Google in 2009, I can't help but feel a sense of nostalgia watching Marques Brownlee discuss iOS 17 and its new "bump" feature for automatic file transfer. Witnessing the evolution of such innovative ideas from the past into the present is truly remarkable. Kudos to the tech world for continually pushing boundaries and making our lives easier with these advancements. Excited to see what the future holds! Keep up the great work, Marques!
I remember my first phone ever for Christmas 2006 which was an LG VX5400 flip phone. I had two basic phones afterwards from an LG Venus to a Pantech Hotshot and then I wound up getting Straight Talk (ironically they’re now owned by Verizon) in September 2014 and when I did my first iPhone was a 4 that my dad used and I’ve had iPhones ever since. There’s been the 5S, 6, and I’ve had my 8 Plus since July 2020 with plans on getting a 14.
Instantly thought of bump when that feature was revealed 😊
Shame Google had this tech for ages and didn't do anything with it. Now they will that apple did though.
Same reason they removed the jack. Because they are going backwards. From quick and easy to more annoying steps. I didn’t want to go to virus gobbling Android, but apple left me no choice. I require tight ear lobe fitting buds, which don’t exist unless wired, not that I’d plug radiation into my head if wireless did fit snugly. Now I’m expected to type my code in 20 times a day versus a single touch?? No, I’m not a dumb slave who hands over facial recognition.
I just want a back button please God.
Standby is actually very useful for cars without car play. I use it in my old Audi TT to switch tracks on Spotify. As the display is essentially always on and the buttons are massive it’s very easy to quickly tap and switch tracks. It’s great

I truly, truly liked this update. I normally get the update and not even notice the upgrades, but with this one it was so useful. I really like the new check in feature and I really really like the standby mode!
Standby mode (8:03) reminded me of Blackberry's 'bedside mode', where the clock would display (although the clock looked a lot slicker (red in colour)). Good to see some of these old features popping back into modern hardware.
StandBy actually turns red when it’s in the dark which is cool
Still remembering how Craig Federighi introduced AirDrop like "no need for bumping your phone" lol
Yeah, I remembered thay they made fun of Android, saying that their phones have to touch to transfer files
You still don't have to do that for airdrop. Nothing changed
@JohnSmith-el4ez android doesn't. It's just no one turned on the old feature for sharing files via wifi/Bluetooth but nfc was always on for people. So it was easier to introduce the bump thing than to tell everyone to turn on and setup wifi-direct (which some OEMs wouldn't support and some carriers disabled)
To be fair he meant that as not needing to bump your phone with everyone else's, as in a group. This is great for quickly sending stuff to one person, but for multiple people the traditional way is still way better
I’m really enjoying how refined and straight forward iOS is. Recently switched to a iPhone 14. Feels like I’m just getting used to the current iOS but excited for 17!

Google Meet does have the recorded video messages if that's what you mean
Video message is a bit too much but personalized contact is actually a great feature. The issue is that most smartphone brands use different apps for contacts. So they either have to work together to add this feature in all of them and decide on a common format for the personalized contact that can actually be modified into the style of each different contact app. Or Google could use it as a way to force their own contact app on all Android devices by not allowing other contact apps to use this feature.
Think they can implement basic contact card sharing as a standard feature on Android. Maybe even an advanced feature version for pixel.
@@newbie4789 well it's really only Samsung that is using it's own app. Any other major Company (Xiaomi, Oppo, Realme, Oneplus) does as far as I know use the Google one. As a blind voice over user, I think the personal voice profile is really cool. You could even get the voice of a loved one. I would hope they would have support for remotely saving the data so you could keep it with you let's say a loved one passed away. I think it would also be a great idea if those voice profiles could be used as a voice over voice. If you're a troll like me, record your own voice and then have your phone in your voice speak to you all day as you're just going through your emails, or scrolling on youtube, or have the voice of a significan't other read your amazon shopping list to you and let you know in their voice from a text message that says, Why did I find 11 spoons in the couch"? Personal Voice tells me that the future is terrifying.
Kinda like it in a way.. you could have a voice of dead relatives..
Letting folks who become mute still communicate in the voice they once had, what horror!
I understand the fear of it, but this technology can be very useful for people with degenerative paralysis diseases, like MS or MG. My father is in the early stages of MG and is starting to lose his vocal functions, so this is a feature we are looking to use once it is available so he can still have the ability to "talk" to others with his own voice if his condition progresses to the point of total voice loss.
Will be used against us well. Sore in the cloud and used to identify us.
Every generation said the future looks terrifying
Im happy they’re finally changing the layout for the phone app like when you’re on a call. Now the hang up option is in the bottom right corner which is something unseen before now.
love this video! thank you so much
why is this video playing in some other language
I can't believe it took this long for apple to create usable widgets
Wait, they weren't even usable? That's crazy from an Android perspective
@@makr.It was pretty much a display and you had to click it on and go into it, whereas android you could interact with it without opening it up.
It almost makes it seem like they delay this updates on purpose, dont they?
Too busy counting all that money from IPhone x.
I don't think many people use widgets with iPhones 😂 I have both OS and I don't use widgets
I have an iPhone SE 2, and am about to update to iOS 17. Great video, love your stuff! I’m a big fan!
Love the conversation awareness on AirPods! No more taking off or muting
i just spent the last 10 minutes trying to fix my youtube only to realize its not me. what the heck
am only I getting a spanish voice-over on this video and cant change it back? Running Firefox on Desktop, Win11. There is no option to change audio language in the settings and all other videos are in the language they should be.
I really appreaciate you being so critical about all the new features whether it's the device or the software. :>
6:25 “… they fixed that” YES … YES!!!!
Love your videos, keep the good work up!I wanted to add something that goes for the people that have iPhones before the 12 (MagSafe),you can have the stand-by mode by placing your phone vertically on a stand and then plug in the charger and the stand-by screen should show up!!
what is going on in the audio? i think its spanish, and since i dont speak spanish, i cant tell what the heck is going on
Actually quite surprised they’ve brought a few old things back but yet they have become so useful, shows we overlooked them in the past
Thanks for this Marques! I think they should enable standby mode to work when the phone isn’t charging as well
