    • @kimiraikkonen4226 Having a high climb rate is beneficial in many ways: obstacle and terrain avoidance, traffic avoidance, outclimbing a windshear, reaching higher altitudes faster(both for safety and better performance) and, most important, better engine out performance. When it comes to flying, it's better to have excess power and not need it than the other way around

  • Very interesting vid. I have never seen a case where the aircraft had to change runway ends at the last moment. I wonder why they didn't just take off from runway 16, right from the beginning. I mean, they knew that they were right at the limit of their takeoff abilities, given the tail wind on the runway 34 side. They had to know that the wind could change by a small amount at any moment...which it ultimately did. And that forced them to have to switch ends. If the tolerance was THAT tight...why not just take off with the head wind on runway 16, and avoid any possibility of what happened? They were closer to the 16 end of the runway before they began taxiing, as well.

    @turbofanlover@turbofanlover2 ай бұрын
    • Probably because of the high terrain south of the airport. In case of an engine failure at MTOW, they may not be able to comply with their engine out climb gradient, which would explain why they preferred to depart from RWY 34. LSZH will operate runways with tailwinds up to 7 knots as per standard. You can check that in the AIP or on the departure and arrival charts.

      @Airplanefooood@Airplanefooood2 ай бұрын
    • Noise abatment restrictions during the night. If you takeoff on 16 will overfly almost directly over the city. So isnt "recommend" to depart from that rwy

    • @@arheillocuh6319 Agreed, but NADP are not compulsory and it can be decided to 'ignore' them due to performance reasons (as they did in the end). In the end, what's the point of NADP if you can't take off anyway, right?

      @Airplanefooood@Airplanefooood2 ай бұрын
    • Because their maximum take off weight (their limitations) were probably lower with runway 16 than with 34. Same problem in Bogota

  • I just ❤ A340! Wish there was a good one for msfs. 01:26:55 - f-plan on mcdu display waypoints with more than 5 single letter names. I always thought it was icao standard for naming waypoints with 5 letter names (except vor and ndb)

    @ClTlZEN_X@ClTlZEN_XАй бұрын
    • Usually, when you direct to a waypoint, all intermediate waypoints are deleted. However, this happens when the crew chooses to direct to a waypoint while using the "abeam points" option (DIRECT TO/ABEAM PTS). The FMS again draws a direct line to the waypoint you want to directly fly to, however, reprojects all intermediate waypoints onto this new, direct line. To have a distinction between the original waypoints and the reprojected ones, their names are prefaced with "AB" (for "abeam"), adding two letters to the otherwise standard five-letter names. Hope this helps! :)

    @Uranium-238-Eater@Uranium-238-Eater2 ай бұрын
