@UDimwit7 жыл бұрын
UDimwit not really because he makes you thinks a lot. And the key to meditation is not thinking at all. I get what you mean but no it really isn't....
@IrieBuddha947 жыл бұрын
Though to think is not to think if you can get that concept of things..You listen to what he says, you think about it, then you apply it in the form of meditation which is not thinking.. just applying the conceptual values in a different form or state... and it is when you don't think that real and true ideas come from out of no where...
@UDimwit7 жыл бұрын
The key to meditation is not "to not think" , indeed in one of his talks Alan Watts says exactly this. Meditation is a whole state of being, I can meditate going about my everyday life, it is an inner calm of sorts and a perspective only you can be aware of. To apply a maxim such as you have is to put it in a box , it is like trying to explain love, it cannot be explained by something which it is not, you cannot explain love because it is so very personal and indeed everyone will have a different view which also cannot be exactly felt by another. Meditation is not tangible, Alan Watts does make us think a lot but that is not to say we cannot be in a meditative state whilst thinking. In Savasana in Yoga I ask my students not to empty their minds, indeed that would be impossible, but rather to try to slow down thoughts ; to try to create spaces in between them to calm a busy mind, this to me is how anything and anywhere and any place can be a meditation, they can then take that with them and their inner calm shines out in their interations with others and has a beautiful knock on effect of compassion and acceptance. I would explore this open view of meditation as it is very interesting to oneself. Peace x

When I was 15, I remember considering how a person who is blind must see... So I closed my eyes and was listening to everything around me, calculating what I thought was what and what it's aproximent location was... This was causing my brain a lot of work trying to know where everything was without seeing it. So then I stoped, (trying to identify) labeling everything, every sound that I heard. And just listen. Let all the sounds come in all at once (without me "getting in the way" turning it into a process, putting a label on everything... Just let it be.) And for a moment, I swear to you, it was like I could see 360° degrees around me. From kids outside running by the house, cars driving on the road near by, birds tweeting right outside the window that had wind flowing through it because it was open slightly and the clock sitting on the counter clicking. I remember it kinda freaking me out a little bit so I opened my eyes, jumped up and snapped out of it.
@duaneborgaes74494 жыл бұрын
Nah man I expierenced that myself quite a few times albeit on LSD haha but i know exactly what youre talking about i could thinksee everything aroung me the birds in the trees what color they were and everything. I wrote it off as imagination the first few times but after a while and actually seeing the things afterward that kinda changed my perspective on the matter. There probably really is something to that especially considering so many govermental agencies around the world did extensive research into this matter....

As the commenter above I am blind and I think what you did is truly incredible because thats exactly how it is. The same as sight. You don’t look around and label, you observe passively and everything you need to see is there which is exactly what you have to do with sound when you don’t have any sight, all the detail and richness is there if you just shut up and take notice. Its harder with sound though because its very easy to shut down your visual imagination and just see through your eyes but shutting down your inner voice and just listening is more challenging. Sounds to me like you are a very empathetic person and I appreciate you trying to imagine what my perception is like.

Its important to keep in mind that our brains evolved the concept of "past and future" because it helped us survive at a time when we were prey (we learned to plan/organize). Our close cousins chimpanzees and other monkey species don't have this ability, because their ancestors stayed tree-living. But on the ground we were more vulnerable. When our brains got the concept of time, we traded that brainspace and sacrificed other traits that has to do with understanding the present (like reacting fast to something we see). Today this time-perspective still helps us, but like most traits there's an obvious downside to it. We tend to focus too much on future and past. Anthony Pope so hateful toward someone you don't even know. Talk about a mental disability, MFs have an inability to treat each other with respect. Who cares if the guy doesn't know what he's talking about, he's expressing himself. Perhaps you should focus more on yourself. Maybe then you would actually face your own self doubts and insecurities, rather than trying so desperately hard to ignore them that you must distract yourself by putting others down and insulting them as a means to make yourself feel better. Let the guy spout his nonsense and keep that negative energy to yourself, or perhaps let it out into a punching bag or something. Make it productive

The real world? Live where it snows. Work outside in the coldest of winter days. When it rains you are going to have to deal with it. Cold and hungry, gives the world a bite to it. Going home, to that place you and your best friend have made, the warmth you share gives rise to fulfillment. The nature of the world reveals itself when you're ready, never before.

Just listening to Alan watts is meditating in itself...
UDimwit not really because he makes you thinks a lot. And the key to meditation is not thinking at all. I get what you mean but no it really isn't....
Though to think is not to think if you can get that concept of things..You listen to what he says, you think about it, then you apply it in the form of meditation which is not thinking.. just applying the conceptual values in a different form or state... and it is when you don't think that real and true ideas come from out of no where...
Peace x
Very true, many ways to meditate! You can guide your self or you can be guide by another :D
A Js on point :-) xx

Hello
@lisa gaye This is fucking fantastic. Thank you for sharing that. Hope you are well.
@lisa gaye wishing I knew you
As the commenter above I am blind and I think what you did is truly incredible because thats exactly how it is.
@lisa gaye much love to you

"Most people do not have time, because they are not aware of present. Present is the only real time. There is no past and no future."
nicely put
Its important to keep in mind that our brains evolved the concept of "past and future" because it helped us survive at a time when we were prey (we learned to plan/organize). Our close cousins chimpanzees and other monkey species don't have this ability, because their ancestors stayed tree-living. But on the ground we were more vulnerable. When our brains got the concept of time, we traded that brainspace and sacrificed other traits that has to do with understanding the present (like reacting fast to something we see). Today this time-perspective still helps us, but like most traits there's an obvious downside to it. We tend to focus too much on future and past. (Based on research mentioned in this video: kzhead.info/sun/ntikmrmimoyfl2g/bejne.html)

I'm reading Kenneth Cohen's, Honoring the Medicine. He states that the Native American elders like to listen to what people don't say, to the space before, between, and after words. Every knowledge that we sense through our perception is nothing new.

Truth.....We are responsible for our actions....sometimes we get frustrated,, & weak...we feel like giving up but we must keep walking ..we fall down ..we get back up..its not a choice...its a must....life is too short to be consumed with greed...💕
Silence is golden. Until we say something, we can be considered the wisest of ppl alive.... these are old truths.
This is the very first video in which I heard Alan’s teachings. I can’t express in words how much this single man has changed my life for the better. Thank you Alan, for helping so many
Allan Watts His energy has been impacting thy journey since seeing him in 1971! Shine Bright! Your energy flows forward! Shine Bright! Onelv MWM
The most relevant Man who ever walked this earth in my opinion
He's given me better advice and helped me in more ways than anyone else has. So I'd have to agree with you.
Marcus Garvey, Malcom X Bob Marley just to name a few. Peace and Power to Alan regardless
Sometimes I contemplate being silent. Only becsuse people hear what they want to not what you're saying.
once you notice people's eyes slowly look down as you talk, you know they are no longer listening. I call it ”Deitering out” cause I knew a guy named Deiter and he thought he knew everything.
@@Sammasambuddha yep
I wish I was alive when Watts was alive. I would have loved to see him speak in person. 👍 He was and is amazing 💜
There is no Alan Watts, that is a Lie. Names exist not. Form exists not in reality. YOU ARE ABSOLUTE/TAO, all else is unreal.
I say same 💗💗
Is it possible to live life without comparison? Here and now. Cannot enjoy anything in the moment if comparing to or thinking of something else. Perhaps a past experience. Seeking pleasure. Pleasure, enjoyment, joy, happiness. Does anyone get past seeking pleasure?
It was very painful when he passed.
Alan Watts is what everyone should listen to once a day at least an hour for reality check! love Alan🎩🔌💡✔DF

search for Sadhguru...watts talks a lot...
i have been since this time last year and it motivates me to live mindfully and realize its all a game.. that being said also 1 year sober [=
" Silence is the greatest sound i've never heard ! " , and as for yesterday , " Yesterday owes for a today that a tomorrow can never fully repay " .these are just two conclusions that i believe . Is this why the present is considered such a wonderful gift ? By Grace be grateful for the gift of 'presence of mind ' .
I can listen to Alan for days
I have lol
Only days? 🙏🏽🧘♂️🇦🇺
I have been listening now for days
The mind is a incredible thing. Dont waste it.
“...you’re all God in disguise. Jesus found that out and they crucified him for saying so.” Like, yo. I love moments of integration like this. We need more of this kind of discussion.
Jesus is God's son
Well God did say I made you in MY IMAGE!!!!
Please do more research and find evidence before you make false statements.
I agree. We are not separate from god except by convoluted choice.
@PraiseHisName I don't get how we're all Gods though lol. Like I cant move a mountain or do any sort of magic
Pure genius! for living life. Glad he was here - glad we can still hear his words.
Im learning to calm down , as far as being edgy and tense all the time the gym is helping me become more mellow . Alan Watts is great as well and I enjoy listening to him .

We will never find peacefulness unless we start with ourselves 💯

After 20 Years of spiritual practice Alan Watts is my favorite philosopher. Greatest mind of our time. We are rewarded with his many recordings. Thank you Allen!
Wow how amazing was Alan Watts. I wish he was still alive so I could attend one of his live talks. What a guy, thank you Alan Watts for your old school authentic spiritual teachings 💕💕💕
I have listened to him so many times. I never get tired and I always learn something new. And I love him too.
"How on Earth can one get a VerB out of a noun.....(chuckle)" lol love it. Crowd was tough on him they seemed far too skeptical. Alan Watts 4 LIfe. By the far the most valuable wisdom I have ever heard. Only heard of his existence this last year by randomly clicking one of his audio lectures in related videos by mistake.
I think they were actually listening to understand rather than listening to respond. I just think they were quite because they wanted to hear him speak lol
There is no mistake.
There are NO MISTAKES!!!
Same here. I just discovered Alan Watts about 6 months ago. I found out researching his professional history and discovered he had a daughter who has the same name as me. Epic!
I have never stopped listening to Alan Watts .2020 or even 2030 .RP
I randomly ran into this video on you tube and I have to say.....I feel like someone finally understands my way of thinking lol well definitely look more into Alan watts
search Sadhguru...

Alan watts and all the other gurus, pointers and teachers of self awareness speak of the same message, it just delivered differently by each one of them.
I think the main message portrayed all humor aside, is that we all are the universe literally the same as animals are part of nature. If we don't all get on the thought track we can't thrive as loving and caring people who make our world better.
I Strongly Disagree 💯
One of the people i most highly adore and am so grateful for. There are truly no words... Humankind understands him in an extraordinary way. The gifts he was blessed with shared with humanity have and will have a monumental effect in uniting us which will enable us to fulfill our purpose. LOVE he is an important wise old soul. For lack of better words like the royalty of ancient wise men. Worthy of the place he holds in every aspect. He gives me renewed faith and security for what is to come. Me calling out into the universe: I love you alan watts' soul. Thank you
I really love this!!! I've listened to lots of his speeches many times over and over again, and I always will I tell ya what as if they are songs.
Pretty much every time I listen to any of his monologues, I find myself astonished by the fact that he said all these things over 46 years ago :O mind = blown
N0RRec right?
I find myself in an almost constant state of meditation, and I must say it's made my life difficult at times. Its makes social situations very difficult. Learning anything that I'm not genuinely interested in. It's like my mind is blank at all times and I have to turn it on anytime i think. Idk how to feel about it but really, it's a blessing and a curse.
If it doesn't flow is it balanced?
That's how you know it's a real blessing - at first you think it's a curse.
I struggle with the same thing. I do wonder if it's just inner insecurities revealing themselves though. What other people think shouldn't matter so idk why i get so much anxiety about it
Absolutely the best sermon I've ever heard. I've listened to it probably a hundred times...
FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANTASTIC!!!! HUUUUGE THANKS from Belgium, Europe 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Discovered Alan a few months ago...so glad i did. Thanks you Alan for gracing us with your presence. You popped up again thankfully through the positive side of Technology..
When he compares the subtle click of the hair thin hand on the clock to that of the sound of the gong, which reverberates, /mind blown.
This is incredible!!! I never heard of him! I'm blown away!! Love how well he explains this complicated, yet simplest concept! ❤
Alan Watts always an all time favorite... Thank you ...
never give up! thanks for sharing this awesome video!
I understand you. You are extremely intelligent and I understand every word. You answered so many questions for me. This is on a different Platform a higher frequency. I'm thankful for the knowledge given to me. My journey. TY!
Be blessed always :)
I'm grateful I let go of destruction and focus on Alan watts wisdom🙏
I wish I could have sat through a live lecture, truly an amazing spirit. Mr. Watts is a true inspiration
Here in 2019 just silent listening namaste 🙏🏽
The fact that there were plenty of questions at the end truly highlights how phenomenal this speech was It actually made people grind their gears
Saving this and sharing with my daughter. I wish I heard this while I was younger.
Never a dry eye when I listen to this man. Brilliant.
You are awesome Alan Watts
Silence is salvation. Either say something good or be silent.
unless you don't feel good vibes ... that inner you senses you cautious of itself
The exception would be in laughter at someone’s expense. In my circle of friends we find much humor in putting each other down with no filters only truth. Because the truth hurts and it’s funny.
Be still and know
nothing good to say say nothing at all
Greetings far in people, If there was never the pain of listening to anything "bad" that is said, what pleasure would be derived from hearing or speaking anything "good". And what of jokers, do they not often purposely speak what is considered "bad" the stupid, the offensive or the absurd, just to give people an alternate viewpoint as well as for laughs. Sincerely yours, a far out person
I could listen to this man speak all day! And I hear everything 😊
i am going through so many changes on a wide variety of topics. i know would take years for me to listen to a different person speak individually on each issue im having to learn something. but right now, what he is speaking on is what i needed to hear at the core of it all. now i can heal, process, and learn in all my different issues with this enlightenment.
i spend so much time alone that i think on a different plain as others and i only play along with their thoughts an ideas just to fit in sometimes
Gboythunda same
I am a solitary person myself but I now own cats 🐈🐈🐈🐈
That is so pretentious AF.
Kindred spirits, you and i
@@g49613 I don't really think it's pretentious. It's really just a matter of saving face. Worded pretentiously sure but it'd be different if he said I think on another plain from others so much so I don't bother acknowledging anyone else. I get what he means because take an open minded person and a close minded person and put them alone in a room. That won't boad well and heads will butt. It's to avoid that situation really although sad the two can't respect personal opinions.
"If you take words too seriously it's like a person who climbs a signpost instead of going where it points."
Words do not exist in reality. Words are Mind Control, dissolve knowledge and Know The supreme One.
Absolute Dao Yes, Word’s put a “spell” on us.
Try not to confuse the menu with the meal.
I have ignorantly climbed the signpost instead of going where it points
Thank you Alan & Alexander as one, Just needed that while the mind was trying to trick me but life is good as it is,even in the present, now ,today
I love the act of silence. The world is in need of this peaceful feeling. Thank you! Sincerely, Shasta
I never realized how smart I am. I mean i don't stay around many to compare. Hearing him sound like me to myself, lets me know something I already knew. But reaffirms it which is nice. Hope all are well. Now ungravitate yourselves from the complex illusions that control most of all.
Stop trying to be all Philosophical you sound like dipshits
Oh maya
@@rails4everdo or do not, there is no try. Why even comment when all you are inviting is negativity, better to say nothing if this is what you are provoking, if you dont like what was said and you want to say something offer words that are uplifting like maybe just saying as long as you are being honest with yourself , or thank you for sharing to relate to others who are thinking similarly because connection with others is important and people are our reflections projected. Maybe i shouldn't of said anything either if I'm not benefiting anyone reading it for the better. I am that i am is not what I think or others say you are, im just stumped on this tell i follow it to its death
@@HelloKurse and how am I supposed to fight you if I dont know where you are, so watch what you say cuz talk is cheap and I would like to fight you just to teach you a lesson so ssssshhhhhh!🤫😌
One is not smart if one identifies itself as so. And calling yourself smart still traps you in an identity. We are sometimes smart, and sometimes stupid. No one is solely one or the other.
This one was DOPE...Thanks!
No Problem!
I know that it is simple and open-shared knowledge, yet still I am deeply fascinated by Alan's voice!
Real Talk! Real Truth! Thank you so much for sharing
Life is a vibration of thoughts that if focused on can become matter ... music is a beautifully organized vibration ... to meditate is to vibrate with your own music in silence to be within ones self is priceless.
It’s all about character. Decide who your character is and play that role.
No dont get stuck in a role! Dont give yourself away to others, you don't owe anyone what you do with your life apart from yourself!
enemyofthestate Clearly you have never been apart of a well oiled machine TEAM
Amazing, taking in the silence calms down all the chaos
Thank you for sharing these PRECIOUS WORDS.
You are so welcome
I needed to hear this
old but good. dead but alive.
Very simply brilliance in his whole entire soul. Though I am self taught...🌹
These recordings will be eternal. What a mind!
