  • I bought a pair of those G4ME ZERO's and a pair of the open back G4ME ONE's. I sent the Zero's back. I pull my nice HD600's out only a few times a year because they have to be tethered to the amp, and even if I had a portable amp, the 10ft cord is too long to walk around with. However, I use my G4ME ONE's about 16 hours a day, for gaming, KZhead, listening to music, podcasts, audio books, phone calls, KZhead recording, everything. They've got comfort, they've got easy to drive quality sound, and they've got a mic. They're perfect. I have two, one in each color. I even sleep in them. I haven't really taken them off in years.

  • M40x (and M50x) actually can use the BoomPro, it's just a simple mod to remove the proprietary locking mechanism in the cable jack and then you slap on a 2.5mm-to-3.5mm adapter. Same deal with the Sennheiser 5x8 series, which I actually did on my 558. I basically slapped together a Game One headset for less money. And can I tell ya something, it's the bee's knees.

  • The "Game One/Zero" headsets are based on the "HD 598". Since the 598's are a decent set of cans I wonder what changes were made regarding the drivers to make the audio curve more appealing for gaming vs their original design/intended use. I understand how standard home/auto speakers differ in materials and design to determine the desired curve and response but I'm completely ignorant when it comes to these dynamic drivers in headsets/headphones. From what I understand they all appear to use the same material.

HD598s definitely win the comfort test without a doubt, but I'm not sure about the sound yet. Still burning in the HE350s. Already, they're a pretty compelling value for only $100.

  • Trying to make a decision on some all around headphones - I'd say 70/30 gaming/music. Trying to decide between the AT 40's with your recommended accessories and the X2's. These will be used a majority of the time at my home office so open or closed back doesn't really matter to me. Also budget isn't really an issue, but saving some clams never really hurt. Thanks in advance Z.

  • OK here goes. Zeo, what do u think of the sennheiser game one? Looking for an "all in one" kinda deal. Gaming (footsteps, footsteps and soundstage) for online shooters, sometimes movies and of course for music. I would like to get in to this whole audiophile thing. I was blown away from a friends sennys hd 598 and he told me that theres many more better options for music. But like i said im looking for something that has it all at 600e (650$) or less. Obviously i like sennheisers although i dont have much of experience. Im between the game one, hd 598 se and hd 700. Thanks.

I only ask since it seems to be Steelseries trying really hard to make a gaming headset not be a gaming headset and I'm curious if they've accomplished anything good with them. Still sticking with my SHP9500s and a BoomPro regardless though.

  • Hey Zeos I'm REALLY new to this whole audio game and your channel has helped me learn a ton. I have a pair of AKG K553s that should be arriving any day now, I saw your review on the SMSL SD793-II and am wondering how much better they would make my 553s sound as opposed to my on-board ALC898 chipset and if the difference would be drastic enough that I should it them. Thanks in advance.

    • I've since seen your review on the Micca Origen+ and am really intrigued, kinda wanna buy one ;) does the same go with that DAC/AMP? Or since it is more expensive would I get slightly better audio quality than I would from the SD793. If so then I will grab one.

  • Okay Z, it's that time of year again. It's my birthday! I'm gratefully able to treat myself with 200-300 dollars of nothing but audio equipment! I'm looking for the absolute BEST headphone and DAC combo for this price range. I've taken into account the Micca OriGen+ but there's SO many headphones to choose from. I'm just looking for ABSOLUTE musical BLISS (with this budget). ((Keep in mind I've only ever had in-ear headphones and a pair of some over ear Skullcandy's, so this is going to be an insane step up.)) Would also like to say I listen to alot of different genres from Electronic, Hip Hop/Rap, Metal, Ambient, stuff like that.

  • Another great video Z. I have used many different headphones for gaming including several recommended on this channel. X2s are the best hands down, especially with the option to BoomPro them. As far as a top tier 'headset' I have to also give mention to the Audio Technica ADG1/X. They pretty much took an AD700/900X & added a great mic to it. With those eBay pads they are one of the most comfortable & best sounding options out there.

    @Hunterssoldier@Hunterssoldier7 жыл бұрын
    • "Audio Technica ADG1/X" This is overpriced as fuck, just like the Game Zero.

      @btoiscool@btoiscool7 жыл бұрын
    • You definitely pay alot more for the inbuilt mic, but for an 'all-in-one' package I think the ADG1 is one of the best. The most overpriced headset BY FAR is the Beyer MMX 300. I have used them in the past & did not feel they were worth anywhere near their insane cost.

    @BillyAltDel@BillyAltDel7 жыл бұрын
  • The predecessor to these headphones is the PC360. It was open and I own a pair. Yes, it's just like you said regarding directional audio (as expected) for gaming. The issue I had is that it triggers the mic easily so you can't turn them up very loud. The fact these are closed are basically the only difference to me besides the way they are built, in comparison to the PC360 (oh yeah and the PC360 had soft earpads instead of whatever is on these.. not velour but something soft). Because of this I use a stand-alone mic and DT770 (I listen to a lot of music). Honestly the DT770 is pretty great for shooter games despite being closed and known as "bassy". Also there's more than just footsteps but it depends on the game. But yeah, mids for footsteps are great for comp shooters. And you mention again footsteps being "highs". This must be in single player action first person shooters or some of these crappy COD games or something.. The only footsteps I've ever heard were most noticeable with mids. When I and friends used to have crappy headphones we'd tweak our EQ to remove the lows and highs to make footsteps most noticeable.

  • Zeos, can't you just use an equaliser to adjust the headphones to your needs? Like if a cheaper headphone needs more high end, just dial it in? I always hear reviewers criticising the sound signature of particular headphones and speakers for that matter, but I just don't get why they don't change the sound with an eq to their liking. I get that reviewers are trying to explain how a certain product sounds with no other influence, but I am confused as to why people say to shy away from some products when an eq could fix the problem. Could you please explain? Cheers mate.

    @thatsurf1639@thatsurf16397 жыл бұрын
    • Well couldn't you just change suspension and tires and rims and air intakes on your Acura and turn it into a corvette? Same deal. The frequencies don't mean everything with a headphone. Imaging and soundstage and how the sound is projected and captured inside the cups matter as much or more. So trimming the highs doesn't fix all the other things that are making the sound poor.

      @ZReviews@ZReviews7 жыл бұрын
    • Also equalization fundamentally changes sound by altering the waveform. In effect, every bit of equalization you do is reducing the sound quality. I'm not against equalization, but the less you need to do, the better.

  • I had the PC350s, which is exactly just 380 Pros with a mic. This is the only line of gaming headsets I've ever been able to recommend to anyone. But your spot on with the footsteps. In my opinion, they did two things; footsteps and voice. And the mic was nice. But I loved the 350s for sitting on Skype with my friends, and I play games where footsteps is all I wanna hear. Of course, I still always prefer open cans with a ModMic for gaming.

    @Togaholic@Togaholic7 жыл бұрын
    • Mads Sørensen Is there any difference between the PC 350 and Game Zero?

      @JxZaw@JxZaw7 жыл бұрын
    • Jack Hart I think the main difference is the appearance and build. The PC350s looked exactly like the 380s, but the Game Zero is a further defined design, aimed at gamers. But i do believe they have most likely tweeked/improved the sound a bit, and knowing Sennheiser, they probably did a great job with it. The most interesting thing is that they have two versions of it now, the Game Zero and the Game One, which is a semi-open version of the Zero.

    • ***** I had the oposite experience. For me it was very comfortable headset to use [which isn't hard compared that I moved from Razer crappy Kraken Chroma], but I got a little disappointed about the sound. I was expecting an open sound stage or airy sound considering that they are open acoustic, but for me they feel just like a closed one but with leaking sound if you know what I mean. Some people say that a amp/dac could change the experience a little. Such a shame that here in Brazil, returning a product is really really hard and bureaucratic process.

  • I seriously considered buying the Sennheiser G4me Zero Headset for some pro gaming with my Mechwarrior Online Team. I went another way. I ended up buying the Sennheiser HD6 Mix headphones, Blue Yeti Blackout USB Mic, Rode PS1 Mic Arm, Blue Radius II shock mount, Schiit Modi 2 DAC and Schiit Magni 2 Headphone amp. I spent $600 but, I'll never use crappy gaming headsets again. After seeing your review, I am so super glad that I didn't buy the G4ME Zero's for $169 on Amazon. The HD6 Mix headphones are great for my electronic music and gaming, but it's going to take awhile to get used to their tight fit. • I have the Game Ones and am curious to know if anyone else experiences what I do with them. (or if the same is true with the Zeros) When I plug them into a device and turn up the volume on that system when the volume knob on the headset set to its lowest point, it feels as if the full range of sound increases equally. I don't know if the One's are based on 558s or 518s and I haven't heard those so I can't compare the sound, I've read online that other people say they sound very similar to the 558s. Anyway that sound they produce in this scenario is nice, I think so at least. I definitely prefer it over the murder everything M50s, much easier on the ears and the soul. Anyway, back on topic. Things change when I leave the system volume at its lowest point and turn up volume using only the knob on the side of the headset. It's all vocals and high hats really. When listening to music, all that body in the low end is gone when I just alter volume with the knob. I assume this is their gaming blood making its presence shown, with this knob being a "pro gamer slider" or something like that. If that's the case could get the best of both worlds, if they sound good in either case that is. Has anyone else experienced this with the Ones or the Zeroes? I'm not bothered by this as I leave the knob at its lowest point and adjust volume using system controls, I prefer that more low end focused sound anyway. I'm just curious to know other peoples' experience. Also if anyone here has experienced both the Ones and 558s or 518s and can report on their similarity that'd be neat.

  • So if you want a pair for gaming and it should be Sennheiser what should we buy? I just have a onboard soundcard like 99% of all other gamers. I dont need any mic on my headset.

  • My tryhard gaming 'headset' HD668B with Brainwaves hybrid pads (yep, the pads double the price for the headphones!) and modmic.. footsteps for days but an extra wire and all for less than 100.. regular gaming is always X2's and boompro so convenient and sounds so good.

    • Holy shit! I have leather ones on my modded hi2050's (surprisingly the sound signature has improved with the confort instead of getting all shitty as i'd expect with leather on open backs)... now i want new velour ones for my superluxes,they are soooo confortable

    • Nothing wrong with putting nice pads on cheap phones.. I am running the HM5 velours on my 668 and $60 ZMF Omni's on my rare as fuck closed set of $45 Superlux 669's.

    • It's a shame the hm5 pads cost,like 200 reais here in Brazil. I had the pleather ones delivered in usa and sent to me so i could get them cheaper than that. Well at least they look and feel awesome on my HI2050's so i might try to order again for my hd668b's and put the velour ones that are on those on my isk hp580's so i can sell them modded because they sound disgusting for music plus.google.com/113024317535155896010/posts/DiSgMAKdDc4

  • The only gaming headset that has caught my eye since I was turned onto good headphones are the Audio Technica ATH-ADG1 or the newer Audio Technica ATH-ADG1X. I have owned all sorts of gaming headsets starting with the RAZER Barracuda HP-1 and ending with the Psyko 5.1. All of which are crap compared to lets say my Sennheiser 598SE or my AKG K7XX. You want to hear footsteps the my new Massdrop x HiFiMAN HE-350 do that really well.

  • Are the Gaming Zero much better for gaming than ATH-m40x? I'm this type of gamer who like the most hear steps. :) I also like the music and I listen a lot music on headphones. That's why I would like to find a headphones what could be good for music and gaming. Headphones with low stage of bass to be able hear steps clearly but also good music. I wonder about ATH-m40x with pads recommended by you and this Sennheiser Game Zero. What shloud I pick in your opionons or maybe other model?

  • I had the Game Ones (not going to Dignify Sennheiser's 1337 spelling), and thought that they were alright. I ended up actually EQing the highs _up_, and they sounded a lot like the AD700X that I got later (and is also the reason I have five pairs of headphones now).

    @SeaHearts1@SeaHearts17 жыл бұрын
    • I haven't heard the Pryma but they seem like a lot of style and not a ton of science. No Response graphs or driver specifics. For that money you can get the ZMF Blackwoods or Fostex 610's [amzn.to/2eDqZkK] OR a good open and closed set and really cover your bases. (Fidelio X2 and B&O H6)

    • My opinion: Msr7 and Momentums for portability and the HD 650 for home use (and open back). I would say Msr7 over the Momentum because of the price difference. Please anyone feel free to correct me if they think differently.
