I love how small your room is and you still use it to your advantage to fill your room with items
I have owned 598 for couple of years now and even after trying many other (possibly even better) headphones during that time i still love the way they sound. They will always have a specific place in my heart no matter what happens.
Wish I didn't sell them honestly. Really want to try them out for comp games again.
Same here, owner of a 598 for 5 years now, tried a bunch of different headphones but I keep getting back to them, something about the balanced sound signature, great sound stage and great comfort!!!
The 598 introduced me to the world of open backs. I've used them a lot so I'm used to their sound signature so it doesn't blow me away as it did before. But I still remember the day I put them on my head and it gave me a new perspective on how music could sound like with open backs. It still holds a special place in my heart.
@@jeffcook3901 I just got one second hand and in good state. You might have to look on the internet too. They are available here and there. Good luck!
Despite their narrow soundstage, the 599's are my go to multiplayer gaming because they image so well. 100% agreed on their brutal honesty but that's why I find them to be quite brilliant for mixing and mastering.
Narrow soundstage is something that sounds like a ''closed-back'' headphone? I just hate anything closing my ear to the sound. Or the sound is just too much precise and seem close to the ear?
wait a minute, they closed off the soundstage?

Finally! ive asked for this review November 2017 holy cow xD
Thank You for this Extensive review, should be the end of all reviews for the sennheiser series. Appreciate you brother.
I use the 579's and GSX 1000 for my PC gaming, and love them.
I guess this explains why I get fatigued with my old 599s. I love em but sometimes I just can't deal. Meanwhile, I spent all night with some cheap bluetooth headphones on while I rebuilt a couple computers, and I'm chillin because they aren't all up in my shit. Appreciate your helping me understand wtf is going on.
I'm laughing my ass off here, cause I think you've been saying you've had to return those tubes for like 6 months.
so true haha
Where is HD 595???
I already have a perfect setup for my tastes, yet I still watch all the reviews. I might need an audio intervention, haha.
Another hobby. that sucks all your money away.
Well, just recently got my beige/brown 598s. Tested on a few people, and no matter what they own or listen to - "No one hates the 598s".
Agree, I use my 598 daily at work and I've the 600, 6xx at home. I really like the sound of the 598 when I'm working. (I also agree the 598cs suck, it is really bad)
Specimen021. That's because they're beige / brown of course !!! I'm listening to the Bloody Sennheiser Massacre for the second time. This time on my shiny new 599. And wouldn't it be on the lighter side of irony if I bought them from Amazon via Z's site? lol. It takes about a month or two (for slow learners) to realize they've just begun to explore the pure genius that is Z! Very entertaining! I buy stuff he cons me into. It's like the back of the next cereal box. I gotta have that, before he causes a disruption of the force. But then I also go and buy something he truly hates! (Most guilty, Amazon prime day's). #1, I suspect he mostly hates the company, and is just using their products against them. Bold move! Ya gotta applaud that. Z's a gambler. All the other companies got the message loud and clear. DON'T PISS Z OFF! Bonus: We got way more than sounds good here's the other pads and stuff you need. My God he even wrote stuff down! Your Honor, I have presented all the factual evidence. Everything this company sells is crap. Except the cheapest model. Perhaps I could regift that to someone I don't like. But damnit, even knowing it's just a performance, you fucking can't help but love this guy! He makes you laugh! You have to be an entertainer to do that. And he is stellar at that!
@M.D what do you recommned for me ? 599 or 598
I have ALL the Sennheiser up to the hd700, and up to this day the pc360 "head"sets are my goto for almost everything. They just hear and feel good for me! Amazing clarity, wide soundstage but not too wide (like 598s wide). They are basically tuned 558s, but they did great with them. But i just bought the 559s, they are available here for 59€ atm with taxes! Good price!
The most fun review of all time, I just kept it playing along while browsing the web it was like a great podcast sort of thing!
I like what you're doing here. Thank you
Thank you Zeos. I had the 569, 598cs (which I had been led to believe was a restyled 569) and Ricardo’s sitting in my shopping cart, waiting for bravery, funds, or a sale I couldn’t say no to. I just removed two of them!
Thanks to your video I got the 559. I love it. The sound is amazing with monoprise spark and the comfort is out of the worl. What’s the next version that has similar sound and comfort
i love my 598's they have a different sound signature which I enjoy.
Great vid by the way...Thanks!
For portable use, the 598Cs make the most sense actually. They need less power to run so anything can power them (cheap DAPs or smartphones), and yet they remain fairly neutral.
Cqef With their harshness, I'd rather go for something like the m40s if I wanted easy-to-drive neutral headphones that also have some facet of portability to them. (iirc they can turn 90 degrees).
You really should check out the SPL Phonitor Mini or Phonitor 2. It basically is a very sophisticated crossfeed headphone amp. It is used for mastering on headphones, but it is also great for "just" listening to music. (SPL uses a special 120V amplifier to get more headroom and nearly infinitly low THD)
Got the 559's in germany when i was on tour with my band a few weeks ago.. Not dissapointed at all and at 78 euros.. i think they were a steal. They sound very good powered by my lg v20 quad dac. thanx Zeus... metal sounds good on these ;)
for the benefit of future travellers, the 598cs I got came with the 1/4" cable and the 1/8th four band with the inline mic. it's a no-brainer if you're planning to use it for calls or conferencing or something. obviously, they're not anything to write home about for quality, and zeos has opinions on the 598cs's, but if someone is considering it, the 4band with the mic is a plus.
I have the 599's and yes, that was a very accurate description, they are pretty unforgiving, anything that's not well recorded will hurt you. You will hate some of your tracks for that. But otherwhise, they're quite nice. Plus they're excellent for gaming :)
it will be better than other gamING headsets? hyperx or smth

Actually waiting for a pair of HD 559 when watching this. I can't wait now :) I was debating the HD 569 but thanks for makine me more sure I made the right decision!
I repeat what Ive seen in some comments below. HD 569 and 598 are exactly the same headphone and both quite good in my modest opinion. Almost every review Ive seen says they are possibly the best for the money at least in my country. And personally I enjoy them more than the Pro 82 (or M40s) that I returned because I think these sound better. How do they compare to 1More Triple driver? I would like to try them out

So, 9 months later. How have they been? I just bought them, and they're my first "audiophile" headphones. I'm weary, because this guy makes them seem not too great. I wish I could actually try them without buying them, but I guess I could send them back through Amazon.
I'm going to purchase 599. I wont regret right?

beyerdynamic dt 770 can be found for about $150, and those are still one of my favorite closed backs ever!

I really enjoyed your discussion. I have had all of these at one time or another except the one you like the most ha ha! I think the Sennheiser momentum a.k.a. HD one is a decent closed back headphone. Not my favorite in the category, I think the vocals are a little muffled, but it’s a good headphone
Hey man - great review - this actually convinced me to get the 559 and really happy. One thing that is annoying is the 6.3mm jack. I listen mostly from my laptop so need an adapter - I see you have your own cable - could you share details around where you sourced a 3mm - I can't find a replacement (shorter) cable anywhere with a 3 - 3.5mm, its that damn 3mm jack that goes into the headphone that is the tricky one to find
Do you require a headphone amplifier for them?
Listening to this on 598cs...And your spot on. The mid's and highs are to sharp and hurt. Having to use EQ to reduce the pain over the past year. Still looking for a closed back alternative for use in the office. These are ridiculously comfortable tho.
I will also agree about the 598c. I started with those (after owning the Astro A40s for YEARS). They felt really hollow, it didn't impress me. I watched a few videos and bought the Fidelio X2s, and still use them as my daily driver today. I sold the 598cs
Yea i got a pair of the X1's myself and they are just fun
Found a pair of Fidelio X2 at Guitar Center next to where I work for 295 and they are my now go to gaming cans.
I have 598Cs and HD650s. The 598's were my first pair of "nice" headphones and I still use them when I go out but after I got the HD650s I did notice that the 598's do hurt. But I only noticed in comparison to the HD650s
eere3343 how do they compare soundwise?
what do you mean they hurt?
I have the HD 579. It's got more bass than the HD 650/6XX actually, but boomier. Refinement is also very dependent on the fit you'll get with them (same as the HD 6xx I have). They can go from being a bit grainy, to being naturally clear and balanced/smooth with the perfect fit. The HD 579 ALSO has the same exact stock cable as the 569 though.
Thanks bc I heard some bad. Reviews on the 579 I got some coming $47 good??? not crazy about the gray so far black either
All these months i Didnt get HD 569 because i Trust Z for every review... Most headphones that i bought are approved by him... And randomly i heard them on a Friend ... I place an order the Next Day .... These HD 569 are amazing and are next to my my loved HD 600 and HD 660s ... i found a closed back Headphone that is warm and easy to listen at nights .
Personally love my Hd 569 maybe even more so than the hd 6xx
I've had the HD569 since they came out, and they aren't half bad, but I wouldn't dare to compare them with my HD600. They're actually good, but they're not THAT good. the real issue though is in the padding, it definitely looks fancier but it keeps crumbling to dust like it often happens with cheaper headphones, I got new genuine pads a few times and noticed that they also sound much better with the very first pads I had after I completely peeled them off, so it might be worth trying pads of different brands and materials, since that fancy material they use seems to affect the sound very negatively.
@@Zucr_ are the hd 569 have a good soundstage?
@@2ka27fahridwikuncoro2 Can't really say I haven't heard them in a while since I let my dad "borrow" them. I don't remember it standing out as bad in that regard though, so probable decent at least.
I also bought a pair of HD569's and at first I thought they sounded strange, but then I got used to them. They are a somewhat muddy sounding headphone but you get used to it pretty quickly and then you start to like them. They have powerful bass, not as punchy as other models but still pretty good for the price. The earpads are very comfortable, but they disentegrate after moderate use. Good then Sennehiser sells replacement pads...can someone say planned obsolescence?
I got the Sennheiser HD 589 and the Audio Technica ATH-M60x. Both sound great whilst gaming on my Windows 9 PC.

Been using a pair of HD558 for over five years. Earpads are worn af. Any suggestions on a replacement? I know i can get the geniune from Senneheiser, but i'd prefer something aftermarket if they're better/more confy for long duration of wearing.
I have the 558s and 598s. The 558 was the first set of headphones I bought that made me interested in going further down the rabbit hole. I would still recommend them to anyone looking to dip their toes in the water. I don't dislike the 598, but don't know if they're worth buying over the 558 with the price difference.
Just bought the HD559 because of this video

I have the 598se opens and I like them. They sound good in relation to my HD6XX. Much better cable to use as it is a standard cable. The 559's have been on sale through bestbuy many times lately for $70 shipped which is not a bad price. I picked up my 598se for $80 which I thought was a good deal as well. As for sub $150 closed back headphones I would recommend besides the ones Zeos listed are: Monoprice 8323 + HM5 pads Bosshifi B8 (also the rebrands like the Sivga sv006) Symphonized Wraith 2.0 Blue Lola (when on sale and under $150) VModa M100 (when on sale and under $150) AKG K545 Koss DJ Pro 200 (with ATH-MSR7 pads on them) Lyxpro Has-30 (and all the rebadges) Griffin Woodtones (with HM5 pads on them) Superlux HD 681 EVO Philips SLH3300 (with XL round pads like the brainwavz or the LyxPro Has-30 pads) Those are all good closed back headphones I own and have tried for the price.

They almost certainly skipped 589 to avoid confusion with the 580. They came out before Sennheiser adopted their current multiples of 100 classification system, but are still popular enough to necessitate reserving the 58* moniker.
I heard HD 58x is saying hello, lol.

Hey, I was looking for a closed back headset for casual gaming and listening to music (TV and computer are in the same room...). After seeing this review of the 569 I am really confused. I bought it in store and after seeing the review I ordered the MH 572. Although the latter is 40 Euros cheaper I am not convinced that the 569 is as awful as you described and the MH 572 as good. The MH 572 has more soundstage but other than that I think the 569 is more pleasant to listen to. Might it be that your 569 was faulty?
Or he over amped it. Theyre not meant for Amping tbh
Finally came around to watching this review (a little late).... Why do I have HD595's ? for the last 15years (i believe) Always coming back to them (DragonFly Black 1.2).....
To everyone watching this and having doubts about buying the Sennheiser HD599: I do not regret my decision one bit! I want to point out a few things: I bought them AFTER I watched this video, so I am not in denial. Also really important: I am not in any way more experienced than the guy whose channel this is, I am merely stating this from a buyers' point of view. That being said, I want to let you know what I am using these for: I am a musician who was looking for a good pair of headphones as a reference for mixing and recording as well as listening to music (mostly guitar-driven music, but also almost every other genre) and gaming. These do all of these things very well. They were uncomfortable at the beginning (I am wearing glasses), however after just a few days I got used to them and now the fit perfectly. Absolutely zero problems here. Now, I am sure you could get more for your money (I paid 150 Euros/Dollars for these), but these were close to me, so I went for it. I also discovered a VST plug-in called Toneboosters Morphit, in which you can flatten the frequency response of the headphones, because the plug-in counters the frequency of the HD599 (there are of course other models to choose from). With this in combination I am very satisfied with my purchase! Once again, this is only meant as a personal opinion, not in any way as a negativity towards the reviewer here! Sennheiser HD599 works for me in all aspects!
Thanks for the tip. I got the 599s today for mixing or sound design done late at night. I'll try the toneboosters plugin.
I tried a pair of hd598s a couple years back and even among many other headphones ranging from $50 to $700 dollars they were by far my favourites. However, I didn't buy them at the time since I just bought the sennheiser ie80's (gotta let your wallet recharge lol) Unfortunately, now you can't find them anywhere except second-hand off ebay, and I'd rather have a new pair. I don't really want the 599s either because he's saying they sound harsher, and imo the 598s look marginally better too ( i actually like the colour scheme) . I want the exact sound I heard but if I have to get the 599s I will. gonna search a little harder first though.
are their any closed headphones with good noise cancellation that still have a nice soundstage? or doesn't soundstage have anything to do with closed or open headphones? sry i have no idea about this stuff i would just like to listen to my music in the best quality possible for under 150€ and i try to get into all this technical stuff.....are there any good sites or channels for noobs like me that answer these basic questions?
Thanks Z for the review! Must have been a tough one to do. Happy with the 599’s, enjoy the detail, and find them very comfortable. Possible that the 559’s foam head cushion degrade over time?
Do you require a headphone amplifier for them?
Z what about the 598 open? Where do they fit among them? Thanks.
A new Micca sub came out in a 10 and 12inch. It would be cool to see you review that with the micca speakers you got!
What's that cable you use with the 559? I've been having trouble finding any aftermarket cabled that would fit them.
I tried the Game Zeros, which are closed and I thought the same thing, sounded mono! Im so used to the great open back natural sound that I thought they were defective and I sent them back. Game Ones however, open back sound just as good as the 559 and 599.
I think the 598 cs is quite decent if you can get them on sale, better than the m50x for casual listening imo
I have the 598s + fiio e10k for gaming and I like them. That said, I've never had anything better to compare with. Any comments on my setup for gaming and could I get something better in a similar to +$50 price range?
Good review. I tried the 598 Cs and disliked it. I love the 598 open backs. Would the DT 770 be a good closed option under $200? Need something to complement my 598.
According to my research that seems to be the best bet. I own too many headphones and have tried the dt770 80 ohm, they are a bit large but were comfortable and open sounding, decent bass too.
Personally I don’t like the DT 770 because of the non detachable cable, and I would go for a more rounded option like the Shure SRH840-E. Great for music, good for gaming, all rounder really. Basically they are better M50x’s... however I do appreciate the DT series and I think they are very good, just not my style/preference
It's been a long time since I listened to them but I recall the 599s sounding even more narrow than the HD600s.
How would you say the 559's compare to the Superlux HD 681 EVO's? Looking to buy the 559's since my 681 EVO's ended up breaking after a little over a month, used them mostly for gaming and bass heavy music.
Heinrich _ For the 681 EVO's I'd recommend taking real good care of the jack into which you connect the cable it comes with into, the rubber holding the jack to the left earcup is what ended up giving out for me.
what is the best headphones and dac/amp combo to drive them for single player games like metro exudos? I dont care about foot steps I just want the most immersive amazing sounding experience?
i have fallen into a rabbit hole after looking for a decent gaming headset. I'm not a audiophile but have read alot about the 559s for gaming vs gaming type headphones. I think i will go with them because they are one of the cheaper options. I'm assuming i dont need a dacs? I never heard of a Dacs until today lol. Also any tips for a mic so i can talk to my friends while im gaming, not a streamer and dont need a crazy mic. Im on a budget so any tips would be great. Thanks in advance
When will you be redoing gaming headphones? Am looking to ditch headsets but need closed back due to my set up.
I just ordered the 559s based on your review. I've never liked headphones, but then, I have never owned headphones worth more than $1. I'm hoping these things change my ideas of headphones...but hopefully they don't make my good speakers obsolete?
I like the 569's best. The others are more uniform sound profile. 69's have a slightly more forward vocal which I like. I have my 1 more triple driver for that uniform presentation. I like the different sound profile of the 69's which do have the best overall mid and bass in my opinion. The truth is I like them all, but based on the 12 headphones in my portfolio I choose the 569's hands down. Also, spec wise has best frequency range and SPL output.

My experience with HD 559 (coming from gaming headsets and i had no experience with Sennheiser before). I red like half of internet trying to convince myself that this purchase is right choice. I never had open back headphones as well. First day i plugged them in lap top and reaction was ""So this is it?" i immediately thought i need dac/amp. I felt sceptic for first 2 days and little disappointed. I do listen most music but i like electronic the most (not commercial crap with two tones and bass) but deep stuff with a lot of details. They are loud even more than i would like in my average laptop but i felt sceptic about sound. Once i got used to them after 3 or 4 days i cant get enough of everything with this beautiful pair. Sound might not be explosive and bass is not super punchy, however details are on point and they are not harsh even on higher volumes (bass is not super punchy but very clean). I wish i bought them sooner. For under 100 bucks this thing is amazing. If you're coming from heavy bass and treble kind of headphones you are probably going to be disappointed but give them a try for few days and you will fall in love.
At first, I liked my takstar pro 82 more than this because they have more detail but after a few months and an HD 58x, I started to appreciate how kind and relaxed sounding the 559s are since the pro 82s have no body to the music and their high is really shrill and sibilant compared to the 58x and 559. The 559 is just perfect if you want to just chill out and the 58x made me realize what a proper treble should sound like. I could never go back to the pro 82 even if I equalize the treble down by 4-5db their treble still sounds shrill to me and the mids are just lacking. I do tone down the bass on the HD 559 for about 2-3db tho

Would the 559's be an upgrade to my 668b's for soundstage/imaging/bass? If not what would be a worthy upgrade? I was leaning towards the 58x's but am worried the soundstage will be too small for games.....
I gave away my HD579 and bought the HD598SR (open back) on sale for cheaper. The 598 is more comfortable too. For the price I paid $109CAD ($87US) they are a good set of cans.
I got Takstar Pro 82 for 55 bucks on sale! Never looked back :D
Maybe you had a defunct HD 569 or maybe your ears are vastly different than mine, but I have the 569, 599 and 600, and the 569 is definitely on par with the other two. The sound is in no way or shape 'mono' as you described it. The imaging is quite good and the frequency response is very flavored, focused on the middle range and not boring.
InnerFidelity review was better. 569 good headphones.🎧
Fantastic sounding headphones and so comfy. This guys review was so way off with these. NIN never sounded better.
Well yes i do agree that you hear differently because comparing 569 as on par with the 600 is not even on the same level.
I gather there's no HD58* series because the HD580 Jubilee was the predecessor to the HD600 and they don't want to confuse the series.
I had 558's for the longest time and you don't even notice you are wearing them.
have 558's and the 598's and my daughter constantly bugs me for the 558's because they have the valuer pads and headband and hates the band on the 598's.. sound doesn't matter much when your playing minecraft lol
@@adam346 Comfort is #1 when it comes to headphones... sound quality is #2.
@@adam346 minecraft soundtrack is nuts....
@@azthetical2980 so true
Sennheiser hd 558 were my first audiophile headphones...now I have Stax l700. Its a slippery slope. I had gotten them and did some mod with them (I forgot what it was) and from forums i had read, it made them souns similar to the 598's.
That would be removing the strip of foam behind the drivers. (AKA the foam mod)
M560's are pretty in your face as well. I think that is what you were about to say, I have a feeling.
Would you please do a review for the new Sony MDR-1AM2?
Yes please!
Great portable headphone, so light
If you like ultra deep Bass and like V shaped Sound for movies and Gaming.. Buy it. I love mine for exactly doing that. You can connect a Toaster to it, and they sound fun. 👍 So give them a try if youre not an audiophile and like V shape to the Max in a good way imho.
The 559 is the overall best value and sound. But on the sound demo (link in descriprion) the 598 sounded better to me. Here in Slovakia the 559 are 88eur and the 598 are 177eur. Its a no brainer...you just get two 559s and gift the other :)
18:27 sounds like those are the headphones for me
Zeos, what headphones would you recommend for relaxed listening? the kind that makes one feel that their head is shoved deep inside a slightly warm cloud.
Mrbittlej, thanks mate. I have HD650, guess i should just get a good tube amp to mellow them down. I am saving up for HD660s so nighthawk is not an option right now.
How does the soundstage of the 559 compare to the X2's?
598 is great for mixing mids and soundstage for all the reasons it is unforgiving as a hifi headphone. 579 or 559 for music/gaming can't go wrong, pick your poison there.
Senheiser hd559 or Ath m40x? I have the AKG K545 so I'm leaning more towards more the senheiser since the AKG are closed and they hurt me a bit, I'm hoping the senns will be more confortable and give me a different experience.
569's were my first pair of sennheisers, after owning beyerdynamic DT 770's and ATH m50's a few years ago. Not sure where your bass went, but I've never had any issues with them. They're not fucking beats by dre, but that's kinda the point. What other closed back headphones would you recommend for making music/reference monitoring etc... ? I sometimes end up panicking at night cause I sometimes think I forgot my studio monitors on that's how impressive these 569's are. Btw the 569 is the one with that obscenely long 1/4inch cable. I'll 100% agree with FUCK THAT CABLE lol
I need your help! People recommend me the M50x but I personally think the HD 569s are better overall. My primary requirement is comfort and somewhat decent sound quality (I'm not an extreme audiophile, I just want a new pair of studio headphones because I've been using some really uncomfortable earbuds since now) I would also consider the DT 770 Pro 80 ohm since they are at a similar price point, but the impedance is too high and I need to be able to drive them through my phone as well. Usage is gaming and music (drum and bass/electronic/rock). Comfort is also a very important issue because the last pair of over ear headphones I had were very tight and they were giving me headaches. I may also do slight mixing and sound editing with whatever pair I end up buying. So, considering the above, among the three you've tried (HD 569, M50x and DT 770 Pro) which one do you recommend?
Mate i have DT 770pro 80ohm , i have M50X ... and all these years i didnt buy HD 569 because of this review. I listen them on a friend and i was WOW... Warm sound easy to listen SO SO SO Comfortable ... Compoared to others... DT 770 was bright and very big on the head with pads that was hard and very circle , M50X also had so much bass and highs that i couldnt listen at nights also they was the worst in comfort leather pads and uncomfortable... HD 569... instant comfort , warm sound without all that highs and brightness and the music sounded more close to me Not like DT 770 that sounds like i was on a stadium. I dont know maybe its all about taste but HD 569 are great Closed backs and easy to listen .
