Bring It On is such a classic! We had both seen this movie years ago, roughly around when it came out and loved it back then so we felt it was definitely worth a revisit for a movie commentary and reaction. Next commentary is going to be Practical Magic!

  • The '90s were such a special time. Parents became "the parentals". "The parentals" became "parental units". Which eventually became "units". So a phrase like, "did you check with the units about this weekend?" actually made sense to some people. Including me... lol

    @mbm6351@mbm63512 жыл бұрын
    • Didn't the term parental units come from the SNL skit turned movie The Coneheads? Or was it used before then?

      @relaxationstation7634@relaxationstation76342 жыл бұрын
    • @@relaxationstation7634 @relaxation station Yeah I think the word 'unit' was started with the Coneheads quote: "I've got to call the parental units before they start worrying." I wonder if the Coneheads would be popular if they were reintroduced today.

  • A very underestimated movie. The fact that they didn’t try to force a false friendship between Torrence and Isis is very honest and mature for the time. They easily could’ve made the Clovers seem like assholes for not wanting to be “friends” - but once Torrence heard Isis, and accepted that she couldn’t deflect blame or pay her way out of their guilt, they actually showed that they were sorry by changing (competing honestly). They were both competitors and it wouldn’t make sense for them to be BFF’s. A happy ending was just mutual respect between the two teams.

    @realSimoneCherie@realSimoneCherie2 жыл бұрын
    • That’s so true, and I also respect the fact that Torrence through out the entire movie wanted to right the wrong Big Red did, even when the whole squad was against her, she was thinking of ways to fix it.

  • If you like dancing movies, there's one called You Got Served, which kind of sparked off all those dancing movies in the 00s because it actually featured a lot of dancing. It's not really a good movie and you will recognise a massive load of tropes that all the other movies did (e.g. a rivalry, a dancing competition, a big prize, a moral lesson), but the dancing is enjoyable.

  • I just wanted to share: in real life if two teams performed the same routine they would be judged exactly the same way as if they had original ones except there'd probably be appeals by coaches to the judging panel and "creativity/originality" scores (which is it's own scoring category) would be either low or they'd give them both equal middle-ground scores. The toros still performed all required skills and there were no tumble busts or dropped stunts. So even though the routine wasn't fun to watch, it still could have scored decently on a score sheet if the judges are impartial the way they should be. (:

  • Had to rewatch since I love this movie and the commentary was great. You should definitely do Sugar & Spice! It's also a cheerleading movie but they rob banks. It's really funny and enjoyable.

  • I haven't seen this movie in years, but I just googled Clare Kramer (the actress who plays the mean blonde, Courtney) and she was also on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, in season 5; she played the "big bad," a goddess called Glory, and she was absolutely terrifying.

  • This movie has always been a favorite of mine! Fun fact: a lot of the throws and moves that the squads were using in the competitions are actually not allowed to be used in competition. They're too dangerous, if i recall correctly.

  • I love Gabrielle Union, my fav movie of hers is Deliver us from Eva with LL Cool J. I think that'll be a good movie to watch.

  • The way that it worked in cheer leading at least for me in the short amount of time I did it was that you wanted a variety of different height people. The people being thrown were normally the shortest and lightest ones, then the people throwing were average to tall, or if there was a guy he might do a one man stunt. Then the tallest were normally back spot (the people in the back).

  • Just FYI the guy who played Aaron died a few years ago - family never disclosed how he died. He was in that mega strange movie, Teenage Caveman.

  • Thoughts while watching: 1. Omg at you getting the Warner vibes as well. Hahaha 2. Agree about the gap year. That time period in life is when most figure stuff out. 3. “You’ve been touched by an angel, girl!” Iconic line. 4: do Stick It! 5. My food is ready so I can’t be bothered typing anything else, but I’m loving these longer vids! Cheers for the covid content. Keep it up lads! 🤙

  • Cheerleader Roles: The shorter/most flexible girls that are thrown in the air are Flyers. The taller girls and guys would be Bases/Back Spots. Girls and Guys that are the most acrobatic would be the Tumblers/Dancers. Also, movies, documentaries and shows like Cheer should classify cheerleading as an Olympic sport as dangerous as it is.
