This movie commentary and reaction is one we've been wanting to do for a little while because even though it has some problems, it's still such a great film! Hope you enjoy this one and subscribe for more movie commentary and reaction videos!

    • Yeah, I don't think she's a snob. Sure, she's blissfully unaware of her wealth and privilege. But you get the sense she doesn't see herself as better than others generally. She's a little dismissive of the skateboarder dude at first... but then he is the dude known for skipping school and smoking pot all day haha Generally she's a decent person.

    • That's what gives this movie it's charm really. She's not vindictive, like say Regina George is, and is actually well meaning in a lot of her things. And when something mean happens it's blatantly shown to be so, like when Tai calls Cher "a virgin who can not drive" which was CLEARLY a mean verbal slap.

    • Saaame. Sometimes they're defending the honour of the female characters more than I am as a chick. Whereas there are too many male commentators who just aren't fun to watch at all. They either spend way too much time creepily lusting after female characters, take their "manhood" too seriously to enjoy a chick flick... Or worst of all.. they're just completely dismissive of female characters in general. I think male MCU commentators/podcasters are the worst. Most of them practically drool when talking about the male characters but treat the female characters either like eye candy or second-rate side characters no one cares about. And a lot of them are blatantly sexist too. Never found a single one I liked at all or who actually respected the female characters.

  • Cher (like Emma in the novel) is basically super sheltered and naive. Here it's mostly because she's a privileged teen, as in the novel, but you can add a very protective father in the book as well. In the 2007 (maybe 2008?) mini series they leaned into it very hard, but it's there in the text as well, that Emma's father basically kept his daughters near him out of fear that they'd die or get ill. Which keeps Emma very ignorant of what's actually going on. In the background you can often see students walking around with plasters on their noses as if they'd just had a nose job. :D

  • This was one of the best adaptations of Jane Austen's Emma ever. Fun, nostalgic, quotable as hell. Also, I forgot I'd watched your Batman & Robin review (which was great, btw) and you missed the line about Poison Ivy having 'great stems and buds' which was a reference to this movie. Because Alicia Silverstone. And to this day, Josh making a 'sandwich' out of nothing but mayo and turkey between 2 thick slices of bread bugs the crap out of me. This is a rich house, dude. They have produce. Avail yourself of it. At least put some Mrs Dash on that sucker. It's naked! Random fact: I was in choir in high school and whenever we went out after concerts, we would chill at the local diner around a giant table and play suck & blow with a student ID to show off our impressive breath control.

  • 12:40 The helicopter is an LA thing/US city thing. The local news (moreso back then, but still now) will just send out helicopters to film while cops bust parties, raid houses, etc.

    @1bwash@1bwash3 жыл бұрын
  • The helicopter is a reference to what they said earlier in the movie about all parties in the valley getting shut down by the police. In LA, where the traffic is terrible, police helicopters are relatively common. So as she was talking on the phone, a police helicopter arrived at the party to shut it down.
