    • It looks like it's trying to give you the finesse of someone one with 70 years of experience(a slight twist is used in order to split better with less power and less likely to get it stuck) but it's doing an incredibly poor job at it.

      @luminescentlion@luminescentlion3 жыл бұрын

I rolled my left ankle so bad last hunting season.. jumped down off a log from about 5ft up and misjudged my landing area, thick brush, tall muddy grass, wasn't flat ground.. left ankle was completely sideways, immediately put me on my ass, cried like a bitch, had to give my rifle and bag to my buddy Greg and my younger brother helped me walk 2.5 miles back to the truck down through thick timber and a logging trail. I thought forsure it was broken, had to cut my boot loose up top to get my foot out of it. My ankle was swollen almost double normal size. Still throbs from time to time after a few hours at work, should have gone to the hospital but I didn't have medical insurance at the time.

I found some online that are hand powered but at that point I'm not spending $200 on something that's gonna take hours longer to split wood than this will. If you're splitting wood, that means it's cold, and idk about you but I don't like being in the cold any longer than I have to, and I sure as fuck don't like standing around outside when it's cold. I've used my dad's leveraxe for years and bought one of my own when I moved out because fuck a log splitter. I'll have double the cutwood in the same amount of time it takes you to pull the splitter out, set it up, and split logs individually no matter how hard you crank away. in short, it isn't worth getting a log splitter unless you get one that's gas powered and at that point, I'm gonna use my leveraxe every time.

    • Maul is best for splitting if you're doing it by hand. The motion this thing creates is actually the best way to split wood with an ax opposed to a maul. The maul has the weight and thickness to just drive it straight down. An ax is thin and split best if you hit the wood ever so slightly sideways so the ax tip starts the split them the change in direction of the ax directs the energy outward so it throws the split piece away and finishes the split.

  • I think it works because of the asymmetrically distributed weight and the lever shaped blade. When the blade hits the log the momentum of the weight causes it to rotate splitting a piece of wood off without you having to manually twist the axe. It seems like a design like this would feel awkward to swing use though.
