"Predator 2" (1990): Urban Jungle and a Deadlier Predator
Released in 1990, "Predator 2" is a science fiction action film directed by Stephen Hopkins. The movie is a sequel to the 1987 hit film "Predator" and takes the action from the jungle to the urban jungle of Los Angeles. The film features an even deadlier and more technologically advanced Predator hunting its prey in a gritty and crime-ridden city. Starring Danny Glover as Lieutenant Mike Harrigan, the film explores themes of urban violence, drug cartels, and police corruption, all while delivering intense action sequences and suspense.
Set in the near future of 1997, the movie showcases the Predator's adaptability as it uses the city's infrastructure to its advantage. The film also expands the lore of the Predator species, revealing more about their hunting practices and the existence of multiple Predators. While "Predator 2" didn't achieve the same iconic status as its predecessor, it remains a cult classic among fans of the franchise, known for its high-octane action and memorable scenes.
The film's blend of science fiction, horror, and action elements, along with its unique setting, adds a distinct flavor to the Predator series and demonstrates the franchise's ability to evolve and explore new environments. "Predator 2" is a noteworthy installment that has continued to capture the imagination of sci-fi and action enthusiasts over the years.

Yeah coz it way worse

haha yea, smokey, wet, and loads of dumpsters.
Probably because in NYC there aren’t any alleys left lol. Last alley was the one John Wick fell into off the Continental’s roof after he was shot.
Calvin Lockhart was in this movie for less than 5 minutes, but he OWNED the scene with his acting and charisma.

The way the invisible footsteps slam down on the water is just so badass. So many people disliked this movie when it came out but I’ve always loved it.
Underrated Movie 🔥👌
I don't think I ever saw this one. Maybe I should check it out.
I haven't seen all of the movies in the Predator franchise, but this one is a good sequel to the original starring Arnold,I heard he was offered a role in part 2 but declined, another good one to check out if you haven't seen it is Alien vs Predator.
Since it’s premier back in 1990, it became a “cult following” film. No wonder why, of all the Predator/Alien-themed films out there, Predator 2 remains the most unknown and yet, my favorite. Alan Silvestri’s score was top notch.
Probably because they kept expecting Mel Gibson to pop up. I remember this movie came out when Dany Glover had done a couple of Lethal Weapon movies and had pretty much cemented what people expected from him. I remember how odd it felt seeing him without Riggs ! I don't think this movie got a fair shake because of this.
Mad props to King Willy for trying, and he earned his place on the ship's skull display

Rest in Paradise, Kevin Peter Hall (1955-1991), the Predator.
Thats just one year after this movie, so sad!
He was also the choppa pilot on the first predator movie.
The reason the new predator movies suck is because Kevin had a style of movement all his own. It’s called swag. In the first 2 movies, everything down to the hand gestures were perfect. Today the predators are just big clumsy and goofy. I looks like just a guy in an alien custom. And that’s what’s missing

@@robertgilpin477 Not Chewbacca, at all. Who told you that?
This is just awesome, when you slap 4K to a oldschool movie, and how great it looks. Way better than most of the CGI bullcrap they feed us today.
You are absolutely right. 100% agree.
agreed. I've noticed that after predator 2, none of the predator capable to tickling with it's mandibels. it makes them more like masked rather than face, unlike predator 1 and 2.

I stopped watching new movies somewhere around 2012, I just can't stand them. When I'm watching movies these days I watch older classics. It may sound boring, but the truth is that the 70's, 80's and 90's movies had so much better production compared to today.

The fear in Willie’s eyes when he says “this is dread man, truly dread.” And the way Danny Glover believed him shows he respected Willie for sure
Willie was king of the streets of LA, he would be afraid of no man. Danny knows this, which is why it shocks him when Willie reveals that in fact he is scared. Willie is the reincarnation of Billy from the original.
@@marcusfossa6695 bem lembrada essa comparação ao Billy
@@marcusfossa6695 you take the words from my mouth, exactly, Billy was the only person there, who really knows and aware what the fuck is going on, he knows the predator is like an unstoppable force and not from this world, he knows the yautja is hunting them and everyone would be killed as Willy knows....Willy "prepare yourself", Billy "we are all gonna die"

I always loved how the Pred wanted a face-to-face showdown with King Willie with no gadgets or firearms. It respected him as a worth adversary, and this fight between them is symbolically for control of the "streets" of LA in a way.
how was King Willie supposed to take on a Predator in hand to hand combat.
@@user-lb8bg6kj9m Facts! This scene made no sense, what honour was there in killing an old homeless guy who not only wasn't very physically imposing but also showed no proof that he had any type of training in hand to hand combat, low hanging fruit for a predator and not in keeping with there code of ethics
@@user-lb8bg6kj9m Haha, he obviously never stood a chance, but I looked at it as the Pred giving him a fair shot.
@@GoldenSage1000I have seen theories where this Predator was a "young buck" and eager, where as Arnold's was a veteran hunter. So, the idea of 'honor' was based on experience. @@ajdominguez1002my guess, and it is a creepy one, he was following the Glover cop character all over the city. Seems logical.

1:52 This is still one of the most badass character entrances in cinema history, even after 34 years. The way the film makers used squibs to simulate the predator walking in the puddle while invisible. Such a brilliant idea. And the predator's slow and confident stride, as if to say: "I heard you were talking shit..." 😂 This scene never gets old.
They didn't use squibs, they used compressed air
King Willie attended Sunday School as a kid. He quoted Psalm 87: 1. 😁
"You can't see the eyes of the demon, until him come callin'. This is dread man, truly dread." No truer words have been spoken for both this movie and the world we live in today.
True. But sometimes, you can *feel* them if they’re in the area. I wonder if W. could tell *that* way, and was attempting a crude form of divination so as to learn “more.”
@@dennisyoung4631definitely. Plus it’s likely the predator had been stalking or following him.

It´s a real pity this movie is such a underrated sequel to Arnie´s Predator. Renny Harlin is no John McTiernan, yet he delivers some really nice Predator mythos expansion, Alan Silvestri soundtrack is AWESOME, the Predator is as menacing as ever, the entire cast is doing a remarcable job, from Glover to Busey, from beloved Bill Paxton to Maria Conchita Alonso. It´s SO MUCH BETTER than The Predator and the two Alien vs Predator, only the first one is better(and in its own right, it´s one of the best sci-fi movies ever). I´d consider Predator 2, Prey and Predators on the same level, each one having its strong and weaks points.
Huh? Renny Harlin has got nothing to do with this film (thank god.) It's directed by Stephen Hopkins. Other than that i agree, this is a worthy and really good sequel to the first (and best) predator film.
@@TheKikkomaster I don´t know why I mentioned Harlin. =P Perhaps due to both of them having done a few good sequels and movies (Harlin has Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger and The Long Kiss Goodnight while Hopkins did Predator 2, The Ghost and the Darkness and Judgment Night) as well as some pretty shitty ones(Harlin has Deep Blue Sea and Hopkins, Lost in Space). Go figure...
You may have had Elm Street on your mind. Part 4 was directed by Harlin, and Part 5 was Hopkins in the directors chair.
@@andreallaodeazevedo8101 or maybe because Renny Harlin followed John McTiernan with the Die Hard sequel
This film is laughable about as camp as can be.. .. prime example of studios racing to exploit a property over a good story
Willie in some ways reminds me of Billy from Predator. He had that foresight and sixth sense to see that the Predator was a ruthless killing machine not of this world to which humans were no match and that he could not be defeated. Sadly he also suffers a similar fate to Billy. Killed off and then his skull is kept as a trophy. That moment where you see the Predator carrying Willie's head with that horrific expression on his face and that piercing scream is one of the most shocking and frightening moments of this movie.
Willy and Billy are basically the same character.

I wish, WISH they showed how Willy fought against the predator. Apparently it was a good fight. Hence why the Yautja took the time to get his head and clean, polish and mantle him in the ship. But I guess they just wanted to do the whole Predator 1 Billy kill, show him being prepared and then...BLAM, strapped to a tree and spine and skull ripped out and body discarded in the jungle.
Given his weapon, I like to think he fought Zatoichi style, except with an orthodox grip. He might also incorporate his sheath, since it seems like he didn't drop it. Would've been so fun to see!

It is still a brilliant movie. They did their own thing and had great characters that you can care about. The worst thing that they could have done is base it in a jungle without Arnold.
Seeing the Yautja swinging his arms through the reflection of the water really showed how cocky and arrogant this young blood was I bet if he survived in his fight with Danny Glover he would’ve ended up a bad blood and that’s why I always loved this movie it showed the Yautjas have different personalities the city hunter and the jungle hunter were two entirely different individuals
