"Predator 2" (1990): Urban Jungle and a Deadlier Predator
Released in 1990, "Predator 2" is a science fiction action film directed by Stephen Hopkins. The movie is a sequel to the 1987 hit film "Predator" and takes the action from the jungle to the urban jungle of Los Angeles. The film features an even deadlier and more technologically advanced Predator hunting its prey in a gritty and crime-ridden city. Starring Danny Glover as Lieutenant Mike Harrigan, the film explores themes of urban violence, drug cartels, and police corruption, all while delivering intense action sequences and suspense.
Set in the near future of 1997, the movie showcases the Predator's adaptability as it uses the city's infrastructure to its advantage. The film also expands the lore of the Predator species, revealing more about their hunting practices and the existence of multiple Predators. While "Predator 2" didn't achieve the same iconic status as its predecessor, it remains a cult classic among fans of the franchise, known for its high-octane action and memorable scenes.
The film's blend of science fiction, horror, and action elements, along with its unique setting, adds a distinct flavor to the Predator series and demonstrates the franchise's ability to evolve and explore new environments. "Predator 2" is a noteworthy installment that has continued to capture the imagination of sci-fi and action enthusiasts over the years.

    • Since it’s premier back in 1990, it became a “cult following” film. No wonder why, of all the Predator/Alien-themed films out there, Predator 2 remains the most unknown and yet, my favorite. Alan Silvestri’s score was top notch.

    • Probably because they kept expecting Mel Gibson to pop up. I remember this movie came out when Dany Glover had done a couple of Lethal Weapon movies and had pretty much cemented what people expected from him. I remember how odd it felt seeing him without Riggs ! I don't think this movie got a fair shake because of this.

  • It´s a real pity this movie is such a underrated sequel to Arnie´s Predator. Renny Harlin is no John McTiernan, yet he delivers some really nice Predator mythos expansion, Alan Silvestri soundtrack is AWESOME, the Predator is as menacing as ever, the entire cast is doing a remarcable job, from Glover to Busey, from beloved Bill Paxton to Maria Conchita Alonso. It´s SO MUCH BETTER than The Predator and the two Alien vs Predator, only the first one is better(and in its own right, it´s one of the best sci-fi movies ever). I´d consider Predator 2, Prey and Predators on the same level, each one having its strong and weaks points.

    • Huh? Renny Harlin has got nothing to do with this film (thank god.) It's directed by Stephen Hopkins. Other than that i agree, this is a worthy and really good sequel to the first (and best) predator film.

    • @@TheKikkomaster I don´t know why I mentioned Harlin. =P Perhaps due to both of them having done a few good sequels and movies (Harlin has Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger and The Long Kiss Goodnight while Hopkins did Predator 2, The Ghost and the Darkness and Judgment Night) as well as some pretty shitty ones(Harlin has Deep Blue Sea and Hopkins, Lost in Space). • Willie in some ways reminds me of Billy from Predator. He had that foresight and sixth sense to see that the Predator was a ruthless killing machine not of this world to which humans were no match and that he could not be defeated. Sadly he also suffers a similar fate to Billy. Killed off and then his skull is kept as a trophy. That moment where you see the Predator carrying Willie's head with that horrific expression on his face and that piercing scream is one of the most shocking and frightening moments of this movie.
