    • Back before strong female characters where a political agenda

      @Nick-hm9rh@Nick-hm9rh Жыл бұрын
    • It’s also because of how they handled her character. She’s a tough person, but she’s not cold or closed off. She’s even semi-nurturing, one could think she actually has a life back on Earth that she cares about. Her specialty is also wholly valid; she’s not some alpha super-soldier who can take down the men with zero problem. She’s a sniper, she’s not going to be confronting henchmen directly and, ideally, her targets wouldn’t have ever even known she was there to begin with. And there’s even a strong historical precedent for female sharpshooters being highly skilled and racking up many kills. The movie makes it believable that Isabelle belongs amongst these killers. With many modern day girlboss protagonists, they’re all built to be like Royce. Stoic, closed off, grumbling, cynical, and overall unlikeable. But unlike Royce, their films don’t challenge these qualities but instead reward and reinforce them. With Royce, he steadily grows into his leadership role of the team and opens up to Isabelle. That doesn’t happen in modern girlboss movies. In a bit of irony, to “challenge” toxic masculinity in cinema writers started making the female characters just as toxically masculine.

    • jeff lockaby There’s no reason for him to unsling it. He has it to where he can reach for it if he has to use it, shoot from the him with that weapon anyway...plus he has his sidearm. Deadly and smart. He flushed out those two Predators when Mombasa was killed in the camp. He had to sacrifice one in the group to see what was hunting them. “Sometimes you gotta shoot a hostage.”

      @Ben82077@Ben820774 жыл бұрын
    • jeff lockaby it’s a AA 12 gauge shotgun with a 20 round capacity (8 and 32 drum as well)...it’s a fancy scatter gun..if it’s at the ready and he’s walking all that way..his arms WILL get tired...He’s been walking...he’s tired...it’s slinged to where he can get to it, pulls it to the front. Same with Isabella, hers in the front slinged , all she has to do is sling it back on her back. You carry at the ready if you know there’s a threat or in area you’re entering that isn’t entirely secured. And to answer your keyboard commando comment: I did this for a living in the military. Navy CS-5 (combat systems) 2004-09... so assuming I haven’t seen anything...let that make you wonder. Everyone’s got a f-kin comment.

    • jeff lockaby Okay...first off, to the fictional movie which we all know, isn’t real. I got it they’re not gonna get it 100%...drives me crazy in movies sometimes... The characters, they’ve all been established that they’re not gonna kill each other...because they’re all in the same boat...what benefit would be to kill off one another? At this point of the movie they don’t know something is hunting them...all they know is that they got thrown out of a “plane” and show up confused. There’s no immediate threat. That shotgun he’s carrying...it’s 17 pounds and change, with a drum of ammo...17 pounds doesn’t sound like a lot...carry it for 10 clicks, that’s 6 miles give or take...(however far they’ve been walking) you’re arms will get tired. YES I’m going to sling it around my back or rest it to the front (hanging)...so I don’t ware out my arms out when I have to shoot...your muscles no matter how lite something is...will get tired...(ever hold your arms straight out for two minutes?) so if you have a 20 lbs weight...I want you to walk a mile (if you have 17 lbs that’s even better) at the ready with the weight...tell how your arms do after that.
