Finally Flying Again - First Glider Flight of 2020 in 4K!

May 30, 2020 - About time I finally get back into the skies in my sailplane (glider) so I decided to start filming in 4K! It is nice to be able to read the instruments better on the big screen. This was a fun flight with my friend Josef Bostik out to the Nevada border and back. We knew we would have some storms but not as many as we saw. More videos will come from this flight. Stay tuned. Thanks everyone for the kind well wishes and check ins during these troubled C19 times. I hope all my friends stay safe and employed and we get through this as quickly as possible. I hope to have some fun flights this year to share with you. So for it is getting off to a slow start but hope it picks up. Cheers! Bruno - B4

  • Glad you're back. Covid19 left me 15 days in the ICU of a hospital and I must say that reviewing yours long old videos during the hospitalization made the recovery process easier. As an old saying goes in Latin: "Navigare necesse est, vivere non est necesse". Thank you from Brazil.

  • Nice to see a new video. I've been looking through some of your old ones, and others on KZhead as I'm going to start gliding again after a 17 year break. Looking forward to getting to solo again once the clubs allow dual flights. I'll keep an eye out for any new videos. I particularly like the out-landing ones as it give us a chance to analyse the decision making process. Not that I hope you have too many of those types of landings :)

    • @@BrunoVassel Thanks for the reply. Quick question. Have you considered getting a 360 degree camera installed for your flights, or maybe a head mounted cam for a few of them? It would be great to see a different view on take off, thermalling and especially on landing and the low passes, as you need to look to the sides as much as ahead. Not sure how practical a 360 video would be, or how easy it would to edit/upload. I would be great to look around and see the wings, air brakes and flaps working. All the best.

The 4k video looks great, but because I primarily watch your footage on my mobile phone I can't make out the instruments at all. Be sure great to have them overlaid on screen

  • 2020, finally! Many thanks for sharing the event. I see in the various comments that I was not the only one waiting for it. The following request may be unreasonable: I would enjoy every moment of the video of this flight. And I would be happy to watch more flights, and longer parts of them. I can see some improvements in the sharpness of the image with the 4K camera, even with my 2K screen. I'll watch it on my 4K TV.

  • Editing 4K is easy! When the video is 2min long... I have wondered if it's worth it, but I think even if you watch it in 1080 it is clearer. But the advantage is it'll look great on future TVs, and people can read the instrument panel more easily.

  • Happy to see your vids again. I am the vicarious glider pilot, leaning into the upward spirals with my head tilted over enjoying the pin sharp views from your camera, my face up close almost swallowed by the screen! :o) I fly radio control gliders the rest of the time, with high hopes he he! It is interesting to note that you need only the lightest touch on your control column to effect a response, which looks not much different from that required by my little radio transmitter's joysticks. Looking forward to the next one. Cheers!

  • I've been doing weight loss with 16 hours not eating and staying under 2000 calories during that time. Basically you start by waiting as late in the day as you can until you eat and then being reasonable when you do. I've tried Atkins etc. This works for me. I bring this up because I remember in an older video where you mentioned how much thinner your hands looked in your vids. Well,,, And I mean this in the best of ways, your hands are looking like mine did a month ago. I've lost 20 Lbs in 3 months so far and it was actually easy. Not trying hard, just following the cycles. Look up intermittent fasting. It's a great way to lose weight. I am concerned for you bud and I really need your videos to continue. LOL Much love from Arizona.

    • @@BrunoVassel Balleka's videos are works of art, beautiful shots and his selection of music to them absolutely perfect, a joy the eyes and ears. Yours are too, in a different way. While you don't put them to music, you are talented in your ability to narrate "on the fly" (sorry for the pun) and relate/show us interesting stuff. Glad you're back up and flying.
