This mountain ridge line has been calling to me for the last few years but I was too nervous to venture over to fly it because it is so far back into unlandable terrain. This last weekend provided perfect conditions to finely safely fly my glider back deep into the mountains and get down on the ridge and play some. What I found was a bunch of little lakes I had never noticed before, cool ridges and lots of nasty rock clumps to stay away from. What a beautiful area! Pilots need to be careful in this area because I believe only a southern wind situation is safe to get this low down in this area. I really hope you enjoy the video. Cheers! Bruno - B4
Kick ASS!
Thanks for the location. Found it on Google Earth. Felt like I was in the back seat, along for the ride.
Thanks for 4k, Bruno. Nice to be able to read things on the panel.
pure awesome Thank you Bruno
Your vids are amazing. Truly love them.
Unbelievable... great soaring.
Just fascinating!! Tx!!
Awesomeness!
Since I was a young boy I dreamed of flying, obviously i never got the chance but since finding your videos I'm amazed. Got a large screen TV at home and I sit back and feel like I'm actually flying the views and the landscape, so beautiful...thank you so much for sharing your flights...regards stuart
Man oh man, Bruno... I *have* to try to find a soaring club close to my new job/area this summer!!! When I was super busy right after high school and in early college a few years back, I was basically only home on very short breaks, not even for summers... but of course "home" was only like a 10min drive from a teeny tiny little airport with an awesome group of people in a soaring club! lol. I flew a bit on the simulator they had in their hangar and got a few intro flights and short lessons with some absolutely wonderful instructors, and then of course promptly had to go back to having my nose in the books at college 4hrs away 🤦♂️ But now I'm a bonafide adult with my own finances getting solid lol, so if I want to spend my weekends up there with the birds, nobody is gonna stop me! Edit: I was recommended your vids for the first time back then, actually!
Hi Bruno, love your videos. Whats the glider model and glide ratio? Keep up the good work. Cheers.
Wow that looked a bit close!
Have you tried averaging out your vario a bit more? That is crazy fast, I guess you get used to it? It just seems to go from extreme down and up every second, not sure how you make much sense of it! Just watching my brain has to work hard to average it out. Although that was reasonably turbulent I realise. Messy looking clouds too. Anyway nice views! Cheers from wintery NZ
Great idea. I don’t know why I haven’t done it before. You are correct. It really does jump around so much to be not helpful. Will do next flight. Cheers!
I’ve enjoyed your videos over the years but this one made me nervous. I’m sure you know what your doing. As a fixed wing single engine pilot I would never consider flying like this Better you than me. Cheers!!
Hey Bruno!! I wonder if you have actual distance travelled versus task distance, when you circle a thermal you are kind of fixed over one point but you are actually travelling so a 750K task will require you to travel way more distance, maybe 1000K? 1200? do you have any data for previous tasks to figure this out?
I was flying it with you....Wow.
You tried that area in Condor? If so, what did you think?
Hi Bruno, unfortunately no.... I am in Sydney Australia.... I would have loved to have seen the entire flight.. At the present I am living (flying) vicariously through your videos.....
Hello Bruno. You're really making up for the winter with the number of videos you are uploading. :) Just wondering if you read my other comment on potentially using a 360 degree camera on maybe a head mount to give a view out of the sides as well. I know that good look out is important and it would be good to see things from another perspective especially near the mountains, when turning and during landing. Cheers from the UK.
I agree. The new 4K is great but its still disconcerting only to see the front view. Maybe Bruno could fix the camera to his hat or something ???
I did see it. Thanks for watching! Trust me, you want to see outside the cockpit and not see Jabba the Hut flying a glider on the inside! 😂. I need to get a 360 camera and try it. For sure you don’t want to see a shaky head cam. Cheers!
@@BrunoVassel Hi, thanks for the reply. Don't worry, I see people for what they say and do, not what they look like and you are probably no worse than me :) Looking forward to some new videos and may be some with a different perspective in the future. Cheers.
Bruno Vassel You can edit the view afterwards. Doesn’t have to end up as a 360, but the 360 source gives you the option in editing to look at anything you choose I the output (and not look at things you’d rather not)
Nice video. That ridge that you want to do a touch and go off of the road is "Black Mountain"
Nice! Looks very doable to the point where someone crazier than me might try it. Hope not. Thanks for watching!
Bruno Vassel Here lies _____ don’t you know Tried to do a touch and go Hit a rock and over he went His body dead His glider bent
Why the digital altimeter? Good old fashioned one wasnt enough? Great vids, I love them
So you can now more easily read altitude. You’re welcome. 😎👍
Min 15, respect your reasoning behind your decision... and yes... that is cool.
love the vids can u plz do a walk around on ur glider the type and cost ?
You’re probably looking at about $60k for a brand new glider, plus you need a trailer to haul it, and you need to allow for maintenance for regular upkeep and the possibility of repairing damage. Financially it’s not much different than owning a nice car. But that’s not where you should start. You should start by looking into local soaring clubs. A membership in a club will probably give you access to a club-owned glider a few times per month and will help you determine if it’s something that you’re willing to put the time, effort, and resources into.
He can’t get out to walk around, he’s too high!
@@rtrThanos For a brand new glider it's probably more in the $150,000 region. But you get a good older glider for much less.
@@rtrThanos $ 60k for a brand new glider...? More like $ 160k you mean I guess....??
You should invite Trent Palmer to come down and do a touch and go on that road.
Hello Bruno, how did you manage this day to get out of this situation, having no lift and also nothing for performing a safe outlanding ???
Did you watch the whole video? There was lots of lift. I was able to keep a glide out to farm fields if the lift stopped. It looked dramatic but was safe. Make sense?
@@BrunoVassel Principally I am watching the videos completely. What stresses the nerves is the low frequency of the vario, indicating sink. There were lots of clouds but very little lifts.
Where did you find the lift to get home?
I don't glide but I love your videos! Stupid question: are you German?
Hi Bruno was just curious if you still have a Phoebus in the works
Hey Cory - yes I do. Bad news is it isn't going to happen this year. I keep saying that year after year. Maybe next year... jeesh.
@@BrunoVassel that's ok was just curious thanks for the response anyhow keep up the great videos
I'm looking for the location. Is it staring me in the face? It wouldn't be the first time, lol.
Hi Bruno! What's your take on gliders with FES?
Howdy! I think FES gliders are cool but at this point in my soaring career I still get a thrill out of flying pure gliders knowing I might have to land out. Keeps it exciting for me. Go figure. Cheers!

Can you tell us where it is? I enjoy finding out on satellite maps, but in this case it's too hard to guess it!
Here you go: goo.gl/maps/MZUWxsBtaYq5QXwZ7
Bruno - I have watched many of your videos over the past years. This is a really cool recording - we don't ge these chances too often!. Were you not worried about the rain in the distance? (it was not clear to me what your plans were). Take a look here what it looks like in Switzerland: kzhead.info/sun/gb2qYbV8nHSrd4k/bejne.html
Fingers are sooooo chubby.
