Fly along with a fully loaded ASW27 high performance sailplane as it flies the mountains just east of Provo, Utah. Pilot talks about some of the decisions of the flight and takes you in for a landing with a few surprises at the end. ;) Hope you enjoy. Bruno
While there are huge mountains that we fly right next to we can always glide to a farmer's field within a few miles of us. Thank goodness for healthy glide ratios while flying in the mountains! :) I visited your country a few years ago and fell in love. I loved the canals of Amsterdam. Beautiful place! Bruno
"Hope you enjoyed it" was your last comment before turning off the cam. I did - I hooted out loud I enjoyed it so much. On future recordings, one thing I would appreciate is a little more thinking out loud about the actual flying - what your are doing with the controls, the decisions you make along the way, how you find lift, etc. Anyway, great stuff, keep it up..
I have a local gliding club just 800m from my house. I think I might go down there and introduce myself. Your videos are awesome! Thank you and don't stop posting.
I have great pleasure in following the content of your videos. Super job. From a former glider pilot of Switzerland (68 years old)
Yes I did enjoy it...very much. Thank you . You are good pilot! I envy you!
Thank you for taking me on my very first virtual glider flight.
The way you surf over that ridge is awesome, Bruno. I come to watch this eye-catching vid and I never feel tired of the bumpy-jumpy part!!
I enjoyed! Brilliant flying. A master of his craft in every sense of the word.
Great scenery and enjoyed every minute.
Fantastic video. Thank you for making and sharing these.
Thanks for sharing. A joy to watch but wishing I had the joy to fly that beautiful sailplane.
Bruno, wuv the vids.. what stick's out the most is how calm, methodical your flying is. The light touch on the stick shows your skill level, the continuous check of controls indicates your thought process.. Thanks
Excellent video! What a rush flying right by the mountaintops!
I'm a 20 yr vet paraglider guy who loves watching this. And I've flown with gliders , they are super fast. 120 mph to 200 Easy. Pulling circles around myself while the making mountains
Awesome video--really enjoyed it. I am a pilot but never had the chance to fly Utah. I lived there in 1965. Thanks again.
Beautiful. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks so much for watching. I hope you get a chance to fly a glider some day. You will love it! Bruno
You made me pucker along that ridge line man. Great footage.
very enjoyable..thanks for posting..!!!
Bruno, you have inspired me to start taking sailflying lessons! Love your videos!
Your comment made my day! That's awesome that you are flying yourself. Congrats!!! Have fun and be safe. Bruno
Great to hear you are starting to learn! Best of luck, have a great time and be safe. Bruno
Thanks, enjoyed every minute of it. It would be awesome if you did a complete flight (including pre-flight checks, etc) to give us a real feel for it. Also, when things slow down, give us a lesson on everything in the cockpit, thermals, the whole nine. In nebraska we can't do cool things like this, but I can do cool things through you. :)
I always enjoy your videos Bruno. Thanks for doing them.
I am in awe, amazing video.
Awesome flying man! Im just north of you at U42 in West Jordan. Ive done a few practice maneuvers out at Cedar Valley myself. LOVED those high speed passes over midfield you did!
Have watched many of your flights and really enjoyed the trips, keep it up, better than watching the tv. 👍
Love your work. Thank you.
Great flight, lovely plane to fly!
Awesome to hear you will begin training soon! You will have a complete blast. Enjoy every second up there in the sky and be safe. Bruno
Love the video Bruno. You are my #1 inspiration for getting back into gliding someday!
amazing footage. love the video!
Thank you for narrating this vid. I love good music, but knowing what's in a pilots head is great. The parents are from SLC and I've spent many summers in those mountains with the cousins. Mom enjoyed your vid too. She loves them as she spent her childhood there camping in the 50's.
Very beautiful flight! congratulations!
Love these longer videos! keep them coming!
Another great video Bruno, and big thanks for extra minutes with the landing.
Simply said, it is amazing!
Great ! Thanks for the ride.
I don’t know why I find it so amazing
Wow, that was beautiful!
you rocked that flight! The buzz job at the end was amazing! great flight!
Yeah Bruno! That WAS fun and I really enjoyed the ride! you are an excellent guide and instructor. Thanks a lot for the vid.
dude, i didn't think i'd watch the whole thing. not only did i watch the whole thing, i'm gonna go watch some more of your clips! that was totally awesome! thanks!
Thanks for posting this. I have about 70 hours of flat land soaring, but have always wanted to try ridge soaring. Truly spectacular.
Come out and fly with us this summer Larry! We are doing a big event in Nephi, Utah in the end of June and you would have a blast.
Beautiful scenery in your videos, gotta love it. Of course I wish to fly now.
You have to try it! It is even better than these videos show.
Just wondering, ... are there other ways to find thermals to gain altitude? Could you see them if you looked thru a 'device' ?
Bruno Vassel It would be great to have a heads up display showing various heat signatures of thermals spiraling upwards :)
Bruno Vassel I'd love to try flying in a sailplane. I think I'm 'hooked'. I can't believe that I never even tried it while living in SLC. That would've been a fantastic place to begin. Cheers! Looking forward to seeing more videos.
Great video, I really enjoyed watching it.
This just absolutely blows my mind. Before this I just thought with gliders you get towed up, the plane releases you and you just glide back down. I had no idea you could travel this far and fly like this! Look how close you are to the mountains it's just crazy cool! Sign me up!
Your videos are great man I watch alot of them. Im going to begin my glider training in 2 months at the beginning of spring (South Hemisphere - New Zealand) and cant wait.
man i love those mountains. i used to fly years ago here in the UK. gotta travel a long way to find ridges like that. your vids have given me the bug again. gonna start again next summer. have fun be safe.
Amazing video. Thank you very much for sharing. What a wonderful glider you have. I am really jealous of the wonderful time you have in it. Hopefully I may become a glider pilot in the near future and have at least part of that fun. Congratulations and please keep sharing.
I've only flown powered aircraft but that looks AWESOME!!! Loved the low pass just before landing. :))
So cool! Those low flybys were fun
I've gotta say as a powered pilot I've been seriously enjoying your videos. I never thought modern sailplanes could do the amazing flights your'e documenting. Makes me want to go fly gliders. Keep up the great videos.
Good! That is the goal of these videos: entertaining and makes you want to try gliding! :) Go take a demo ride for yourself and see what it really is like. You won't be disappointed! Bruno
Jamie, why don't you come out to Monroe to see for yourself. I'd be glad to show you around the club. Bruno I just added glider rating last year and have enjoyed watching your videos as well. Will have to meet up one day. Going to TN with MGSA soaring association to do some ridge soaring in a couple of weeks. Not like Utah I'm sure but looking forward to it
Once again another AMAZING video! I do like to watch you land, so please include that in as many videos as possible. I have never seen a low pass from the cockpit view, so I really enjoyed that as well. Thanks for posting and keep up the great flying!
Thanks for the flip. I enjoyed it all the way from South Africa.
Ditto from South Africa - it was awesome!
Beautiful footage. I'm a powered pilot that doesn't get out that much anymore, and watching your vids sure makes me want to get my glider rating once again.
Thanks for sharing the video Bruno, loved every minute :-) You are obviously at one with your sailplane watching your control movements. I did a week's gliding course 40 years ago here in the UK, enjoyed it but didn't keep it up. I recently gained my PPL and now enjoyind powered flight.
Gliding clubs are the best, see ssa.org
Great !!!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for the great videos. I have my PPL, but need to get into gliders. Looks like way too much fun.
I flew this route 30 years ago with Lee Steorts in our Libelles! Thanks for the great video. Gary
Lee was a super nice guy. Fun to help you relive the memory Gary. Bruno
First time watching your video. It was fantastic. Great views. The whole thing was great. Loved the landing part. Hope you keep all the takeoffs and landings in your videos. Just makes the video complete.
You are living my dream!
That was amazing all the best my friend
Your best video, yet!
I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for posting?
That was awsome! So lucky...!!!
great vid! looks like a lot of fun!
this is awesome! Thank you!
ey, that low pass was sick !!
Nice flight!!!
I did enjoy it, Thank you
Thanks for the ride
The K7 is a great glider. You are a lucky guy to now have experienced what we do up there in the sky. Congrats. Would love to see any videos you post. Bruno
Great video. An interesting perspective of the mountains. I kept glancing at the variometer and listening to the tone. It would be interesting to get a sailplane rating but I sure like to have a throttle.
This is incredibly badass
oh, man. The '27. I love that bird.
How Fantastic!
Yes indeed I did enjoy it, thanks.
I'm sold on those jet engines 100%. On a Glider it even makes more sense.
great footage....makes me want to learn to glide
great flight!
wow this was surprisingly interesting. well done sir.
Would love to see an overview of your sailplane!
Thanks for the tip. Great video. :)
looks like so much fun
awesome - and every time more and more - fantastic film - now better seen and also heard altitude sound - thanks otherwise - happy landings where ever
This is the next thing I want to see on an IMAX screen.
impressive landing
love this video! :)
Love this video, have watched 3x. Would love to understand how you control it so well at the end with the flybys.
Thanks for showing the landing Bruno. I'm still working on my patterns at CV, so I have special appreciation for it anything to do with that airport, though it may be a while before I do low passes. :-) Peter
I sure do love your videos Bruno. I fly model aircraft as a hobby, and just purchased a scale ASW 20 with a 15.5 foot wingspan. There are many model and full scale glider pilots here in Germany. As an American from the midwest, they amaze me!
+GuyOnTwoWheels I have never seen the giant size RC in real life but they look pretty amazing in videos. I hope you can take a ride in a real sailplane while you are over there. Thanks for commenting.

Bruno Vassel I live only 11 minutes from a sailplane field, I have ridden by it on my mountain bike and watched them land. Perhaps when I have the language down better, I will to there and talk to them. goo.gl/maps/XT6dseNSH192
Bruno Vassel This is our club flying field, which is in a perfect location. It is on top a 700 ft hill, and since the winds come from the southwest most of the time, we can slope soar all day, or just thermal when the sun is out. goo.gl/maps/8v37KYUn4j42
Best channel on youtube!!!!!.
Excellent!
I did enjoy the flight and all of the commentary. I suspect on a day like this you could fly til you grew tired of it along the mountain ridge.
HI Bruno. In the UK we call a low pass a "beat up". Always a highlight after a long flight, just don't forget WUFSTALL!
I am using SeeYou Mobile on a Craggy Ultimate display. I love it! Bruno
Hey Bruno! Your narration, etc. was fab. Plus the Hi.Speed passes, were truly inspiring. Description of flying along the peaks was wonderful. I kept looking for the goat. If you could point things out or use an at such and such oclock reference, would be swell. If not ok, the videos and narration is above board. I'm considering a glider qualification after your passes over the mountains. I had no idea that was such a capable acft. Thanks VERY much again!
So glad you enjoyed it! Most pilots do not know how high of performance modern sailplanes (gliders) really have. In mine, you can fly 48 miles in any direction for every mile up you are. My farthest flight so far is 502 miles in a single afternoon. Pretty fun! Go up and take a flight and see what you think. :)
Thks very much!
Ok. Several questions. 1. water in the wings? you purposely put water in your wings, not for drinking? 2. Now that you drink the water from the wings, where do you pee? Is there a hole at the bottom of the plane to let loose? 3. Since you're so close to the mountains, what do you do if you fall lower than the mountains? Do you just crash? I feel like these are all reasonable questions. You can't just put this awesome video and not expect this.
That was fun ty.
Thanks Bruno!
