High Speed Glider Flight From Provo Peak To Timpanogos

2013 ж. 5 Шіл.

Fly along with a fully loaded ASW27 high performance sailplane as it flies the mountains just east of Provo, Utah. Pilot talks about some of the decisions of the flight and takes you in for a landing with a few surprises at the end. ;) Hope you enjoy. Bruno

  • While there are huge mountains that we fly right next to we can always glide to a farmer's field within a few miles of us. Thank goodness for healthy glide ratios while flying in the mountains! :) I visited your country a few years ago and fell in love. I loved the canals of Amsterdam. Beautiful place! Bruno

  • "Hope you enjoyed it" was your last comment before turning off the cam. I did - I hooted out loud I enjoyed it so much. On future recordings, one thing I would appreciate is a little more thinking out loud about the actual flying - what your are doing with the controls, the decisions you make along the way, how you find lift, etc. Anyway, great stuff, keep it up..

  • Thanks, enjoyed every minute of it. It would be awesome if you did a complete flight (including pre-flight checks, etc) to give us a real feel for it. Also, when things slow down, give us a lesson on everything in the cockpit, thermals, the whole nine. In nebraska we can't do cool things like this, but I can do cool things through you. :)

  • Hey Bruno! Your narration, etc. was fab. Plus the Hi.Speed passes, were truly inspiring. Description of flying along the peaks was wonderful. I kept looking for the goat. If you could point things out or use an at such and such oclock reference, would be swell. If not ok, the videos and narration is above board. I'm considering a glider qualification after your passes over the mountains. I had no idea that was such a capable acft. Thanks VERY much again!

    • So glad you enjoyed it! Most pilots do not know how high of performance modern sailplanes (gliders) really have. In mine, you can fly 48 miles in any direction for every mile up you are. My farthest flight so far is 502 miles in a single afternoon. Pretty fun! Go up and take a flight and see what you think. :)

  • Ok. Several questions. 1. water in the wings? you purposely put water in your wings, not for drinking? 2. Now that you drink the water from the wings, where do you pee? Is there a hole at the bottom of the plane to let loose? 3. Since you're so close to the mountains, what do you do if you fall lower than the mountains? Do you just crash? I feel like these are all reasonable questions. You can't just put this awesome video and not expect this.
