Here are my 10 favorite moments flying my glider through high mountain saddles, gaps, and passes. Please do not attempt to do this kind of flying yourself. If it goes badly, you are dead before you know it. Please note the airspeed going through each pass is at least over 100 miles per hour and there is plenty of energy in the glider to pull up and gain hundreds of feet at any moment. At all times in these videos I could have turned an gone down a canyon to make a safe landing in one of the valleys below.
I am very interested in hearing feedback if people like the idea of top 10 lists with short snippets of some of my past videos. It is a little different and I hope is entertaining. I'm thinking my next top list will be landing a glider in farmers' fields. Most of these videos were either taken up near Afton, Wyoming or near Manti, Utah. The gliders I am flying are either an ASW 27B, or an ASW 20BL. Both are 15 meter high performance sailplanes. I hope you enjoy the video. Bruno - B4

Stay safe bruno. Some of your clips are beoming way to spectacular for my perceive...
Thanks for the concern! This footage was actually compiled over the last 6 years of flying. I hear you though - need to stay safe and alive. Cheers! Bruno
It would be a pity indeed to stop receiving your video’s like the stream of Matt Wright dried up a year ago.
You have some outs on those close calls, but some were very iffy. Please stay safe. It's not that I don't enjoy the vids because they are invigorating. But I live vicariously through you and do NOT want to see a bad ending. You have had enough warnings about your choices that you may want to head warning to them. I love ya bro and want to see many many more vids. May the winds always favor your choices. Garry K.
Nr. 1: It's that "I gotta do it..." and the slightly evil chuckle that makes me smile from ear-to-ear every time :)
Love it Bruno!! I am from a 25 years paragliding background and I think only a thermaling pilot can really understand that feeling of whoooo! Good stuff
That last one had serious pucker factor!
I was thinking the same ..... wing-tips.
Haha - I was thinking wing tips while going through it as well.
The lesson I get from this is, not that these maneuvers are particularly dangerous, but, that airspeed is your friend. You had plenty in all these. Great fun Bruno. Can't wait to get up there myself!
Thank you so much for making your videos. I cannot express the wonder, joy, and freedom your videos imbue. I wish I had the resources, time, training, and experience to do the same. Keep flying and sharing. Thank you
That type of flying will make you feel alive!!! Great flying Bruno!
God bless you, young man, for these shots!
And take a look at the sun, the sky, the clouds, the rocks, mountains...what he's doing is not believing in good luck, that's knowing what he's doing and when...kids, don't try this at home...great pilot, sir, you are
My favorites will always be the ones when you low pass hikers.
Ditto!!
"Please note the airspeed going through each pass is at least over 100 miles per hour and there is plenty of energy in the glider to pull up and gain hundreds of feet at any moment." And that is why each of these choices was safe. Well, as safe as can be when flying so close to terrain.
ljfinger Low flying isn't nessicary unsafe. Being low and slow is
Right...I think I said that. Low can be unsafe too because you have so much less time to deal with unexpected things like when the guy's stick broke off in his hand or some crazy shear or getting hit by a microburst, but assuming nothing really nutty happens, having that speed margin above stall makes these decisions pretty safe.
Amazing skill but please don't get too bold, want to see you flying for years to come. ATB Jez.

What “ATB” stands for?
@@-aboodfrost-2779 all the best
I dig the suspenseful background music. Thanks for not talking and letting us just enjoy the awesome ride.
God! Bruno! Your videos are so amazing and so inspiring. You are so lucky to live in the perfect geography to be able to fly the way you do. And I think it would take a lot of experience to learn to do what you do without flying into the mountain. Good of you to put the warning on the front end of this video. Don't worry about me. I don't think I'll ever have the balls to fly so close to the trees.
The slope master!! Thanks for the video!!!
You're literally my idol. I'm only 15 and just completed training on the ask-21 so I may now fly solo on the ask-23. I hope I can ever be as good as you are! It's a long way but I hope that I'll get there some day
3 years later, are you still training?
@@al-du6lb wow that's a while ago lol. I'm 19 now and got my GPL in 2020, but yes I'm still training and learning new things every time. But haven't really gotten the chance to fly much past 1,5 years due to covid unfortunately
"I gotta do it" at the end is the best.
Thank you for your flights!
Love it man. Incredible video.
WOW! This is amazing!
Always appreciate your videos, thanks for sharing, like the perilous music
That man really red the manual of his glider, indeed...flying hg, pg, trike and soon a virus sw 100 by myself, I can tell you, you really have to know what you're doing. Great flying, sir, indeed...Greets from Austria, Vienna
It's rare for a glider video to make me feel tense but you did it.
Omg you get on the leeward side of a ridge that low or hit any sink and you’re totally screwed. Amazing vid, crazy skill, balls of diamond and i hope you have no children
I always come back to this video 🙏
There are plenty of Glider pilots out there that should never be doing this, most know who they are, some don't know who they are. I hope this does not embolden those that should never be doing this to go for it.. I'm glad you plastered on the opening shot that doing this could render you deader than a doornail.
that was wonderful thank you.
That video was a great entertainment! And yes, please do lists! As much as we all love ya, it is not often that I can allow myself to sit through a full 4+ hour vid, unfortunately. ;)
Great Paralax effects ;)
great flying , you know your ship well and you limits ,cheers from a glider girl in NZ I Love being low and fast but always with somewhere to land , whereas you just go woohoo :)
I need to say WOOOOWWW!!! it's so beautiful and dangerous too! tanks tanks for share!
Hey bruno. I just bought my membership and insurance to start gliding! Going to do my first real learning flight on Sunday. I'm looking forward to it so much.
Congrats!!! That is so exciting that you are starting your training. :) Please reply back with how your first lesson today goes. Can't wait to hear! Cheers, Bruno
Hi again! It was actually only today (Australian times lol). It was so amazing. I did 3 flights. First one was just to get an idea of the controls. Second and third was just trying to get my coordinated turns. Managed to get into a couple reasonable thermals (with the help of my instructor) but in the end it was about 3 hours total. I seem to be getting it pretty quickly (comparing to my friend and what my instructor has been saying). I love the feeling and satisfaction of being able to climb above the level that the tow plane dropped us off at. Unfortunately the club I'm at is really close to a major international airport so the flight ceiling is 4500 ft which we basically reached today. I can't wait to go out again, unlike my wallet. I'm looking forward to another one of your videos as well ;)
@@htoby. can we get an update :)
@@pr1ce213 I ended up doing about 10 flights. But I'm still in highschool and was funding it myself. It just wasn't really feasable for me. Definitely want to do it in the future when I have a bit more free time and money laying around. :)
Loved it!
That's bad ass . Great job. 👏👏👏👏👏
Love the top ten video! Soaring is flying with impunity! There are powered pilots that wouldn't even attempt this!
Wow! You made all of the top 10!
Pure AWESOME!👌👍
Bruno at his best ;)
You are king of the mountains!
Great music, great video, feels like some sort of movie, it's rather scifi to be at an age and time where all this is possible!
Bro you are insane! Did a double take on the thumbnail... unreal!
I'm working on my PPL and ive been wanting to give a glider a try. Maybe sometime this summer!
Old pilots and bold pilots spring to mind. But excellent flying skills.spectacular
Wow amazing!
Awesome 👍
Awesome!
Hello Bruno, BREATHTAKING ! At least we got something to remember you.
Well, it was fun while it lasted...cheers.
This was super cool. I like the music. I still like your old style of raw footage, but this is just as good and you probably will get more hits on the condensed highlights.
This video scared the shit out of me, even though I knew nothing bad happens!
#3 made me feel the tension. Didn't look like you had much room for error.
Like this kind of top 10 videos, it changes from the 40min once in a while
WOOWW Amazing skill..
Top 2...The November Wave flight over Cache Valley [At the beginning you can see Hyrum Reservoir and my rc sailplane ridge] and the Cloud Street porpoising coming coming back after looping the Boy Scouts near Grand Junction.
hi from new zealand, I love flying low and fast but, you take it a notch up wow, I had friends who flew like you, amazing pilots who would just shoot the gaps and go, go, go .... some lived some died , its a magnificent game for sure, but yes your right ,it will kill you if you dont respect it.
I was waiting to see what you were going to do at the end of #3....following the road to the end of the valley looked pretty interesting given what appeared to be a low energy situation. I presume following the end of the video shot you hit some lift and weren't forced to do a hard-right and escape down that valley?
Keeping an eye on your ASI during number three. I could feel my gut tighteing up.
great video, great flying there. question 4 ya, I've flown on commercial flights numerous times, been up to empire state building and twin towers back in the day. Been on high mountain treks. What I'm not great at is being up close to steep drop offs, think they call that Vertigo. I've watched quite a few GA pilots mentioned they love flying and have their pilots license and they admit they to have vertigo. My guess is you can choose to fly in large "open spaces" etc. especially on commercial flights your not near any close obstacles most of the flight. Does flying like in this video or gliding slope soaring flare up folks with vertigo more? hmmm just thought I toss that question out there. etc.
Bravo👏👏👏
Learned a valuable lesson from this video. You can't watch this and effectively manage pork chops on the BBQ at the same time . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . burnt.
no.3 is crazy!
Epic Bruno just Epic 🙌🙌🙌🌬🌬🌬🌬
Why am I only seeing this now? Intense flying bois!
Nice!
OK, I love this stuff! I was watching a video of you doing a task, and- you noticed some hikers on a broad path (road?) You decided to buzz them- like 5 times, while flying around this somewhat low bluff... After, 5 broad passes, and, maybe 3 + miles of travel- you decide too get on with your task. The stored energy is almost unbelievable. How can you fly acro for over 3+ miles, then get back on task, as if you hadn't lost a single foot of elevation? In this clip, #1 I was surprised that you didn't drop the nose, and, convert some energy to 'make' the cut in the rocks. Yes, it was very close...
Number 1! Do I recognise that from condor the gliding SIM?
Can you do a cockpit tour of B4? I know you did one some time ago but I would like to see what it looks like right now in detail.
Great Video, as always, Bruno...although...reall wondering how you got away from gap n. 3 :)
It seems like you had with most of the gaps some speed to play with, good job
Just watched this for the umpteenth time. That no. 3 was a CLENCHER!!!
It would be nice to mention what mountain ranges and states you were in when flying.
Yes Bruno I do believe this could be an avenue to gain, not just altitude but fiscal energy too, the intensity was right, a sense of anxiety to those that understand that this is not powered flight, and altitude agl is life, a rudimentary understanding of aeronautics can be illustrated, anyway, money!
Flying in the low smooth valley was nearby, do you have a turbo on board?
I have been a glider pilot since I was 19 years old (35 years). You are a fool Bruno.
C'est grave lourd mec ! J'aimerai bien me mettre au planeur mais à 21 ans il n'y a plus de bourses, donc c'est dur de financer. Peut-être que faire un stage dans un aérodrome arrangerait les choses ?
so good in 7:28 ....... love this !!!!!
Epic
so nice :)
Bruno , this compilation is wonderful , but as you wrote do not try to do it "for purpose " again . We'd like to see you flying and filming for years and years to come . Thanks
Thanks for the concern. Agreed.
Where was video 3 taken by those camp trailers? That area looks beautiful!!
East of Salina, Utah
Makers of "preparation H" thank you sir. LOL My rrhoids swelled up watching that
I assume those yellow trees interspersed in there are aspens after they have turned yellow in the fall. Is that right?
The music selection was magnificent. Thank you
My suggested Title for this video: "Don't let your kids grow up to be Test Pilots!" I suggest if you make an edited video #1 has to be the one where you are going up a valley, kind of a box canyon and you come in the bottom, flying up it at about 4 times tree height... there are some buildings there, you're sort of heading right for them, you still have some speed and you're starting to pick up some lift so you rise up the left edge of the canyon... That is #1 (most visible danger... hair raising for a pilot). Think about it, flying *up* a canyon at the bottom of the "U" (in a glider) with just some modest extra speed, and the sense that there's plenty of lift. Nope, I wouldn't do that one myself on purpose. That reminds me... someone needs to design a device that wholly fills the inside of your cockpit with foam that sets instantly, so you can pull that button at the last second as one sees trees and rocks approaching. Boink! Bounce off of it... then the next week the video shows you flying a new glider. Sincerely, thanks for talking about "Belleka" in one of your videos. I did a lookup and I've been watching dozens of his videos. His videos are incredible (so are yours)! His story is still maximally poignant even for someone who comes along a year after he has passed away. By the way, we all should strive to match his flying style. He is smooth, deliberate, yet perfectly accurate with his ridge soaring stick control inputs (he was probably just as great with the rudder pedals). Sometimes you get a sense he is flying a 747... that kind of smooth. Cheers!
Rock on! We need to make that video confirming the pull up altitude numbers.
I really think you should talk about the safety training and your years of experience and knowledge to fly the way you do! I would hate to see someone get killed trying to imitate your bold antics
I'm glad to fly over a flatland. I mean this is beautiful, but you are insane.
Sir Bruno Please do a fly over "morning glory" :)
If you were a mountain skier, you'd be one of those people who outrace avalanches, ski off cliffs, shoot through steep ice gullies, and dodge trees at 70 mph.
Is powered flight safer doing that kind of flying? ‘Scuse my ignorance, Bruno, but what is your day job? Love your videos! I learned gliding in 1978 in Caddo Mills , TX in a Schweizer 233 and spent several more hours in a 126 before funds ran out.
Wpherigo1, I think even the venerable SGS 2-33 is more aerobatic than the typical Cessna you'd rent from a flying club, and many modern gliders are more aerobatic than a 2-33. You'd need deep pockets to get a powered aircraft that's as much fun! If funds are an issue, then gliding is a great way to keep flying.
I know your having fun flying through passes, just don't become a splat cause that will ruin your day. Be safe Bruno!!!!
#6!
Hey again, Bruno - I was wondering, you've shown us a compilation of things YOU'VE done that were risky, (the 2 turns video),. but I was wondering if you'd make another short video of clips where something well beyond your control has meant you've had to take avoiding action... The lightning strike video springs to mind - any others? Birds? Planes? Superman? Ok, so that last one was a little joke, (sorry, word-play), but you in all seriousness, you see what I mean? :)
Bruno is a true EXPERT in this art....and I'm sure that his "situational awareness" is very keen.
It’s been way too long since you’ve posted a video!!
Amazing video Bruno, but the music!!
I think the music adds drama.
Hi I fly at London gliding club in Dunstable UK. I’m 13 and I am on the road to solo (I’m 14 in September). I love flying but where I live it’s hard to ever get a really long flight (unless your very lucky). I find this really annoying as I have to take so many aerotows to learn everything as the flights on average only last 15-20mins.
I have a question: How do you keep track of the wind direction? Have you ever ended up on the wrong side?
Stephan Hess 40 years of flying experience is how.
the little cloth on the front of his cockpit
Bruno, what are your thoughts about a glider like Silent 2 Electro? seems like best possible combo
It really depends on what you want to be doing. The Silent 2 is only a 13.5 meter glider with moderate glide performance. If you want to do really long cross country flights, it will be much tougher to do than a modern 15 meter glider. I'm not saying it can't do it, but it will take longer to fly the same distance.
Hi Burno, Thank you for replying. my main concern is more with unassisted take offs and perhaps gaining some altitude where there is no updraft.
Yes.. in trouble real quick.
wow.
I'd probably wait to have a little more experience before doing that By the way, a friend of mine sent you a message two weeks ago to know if it was possible to have the picture you use as your youtube banner of your older ASW20 in the wheat field, I really like it and I would like to use it as a background for my computer, I would really appreciate if you could send it to me when you have the time for it.
And great flying by the way. Just remember to stay safe please.
