I agree ☝️ Phantom is very expensive but it’s worth the money more than any other car in its class. From my personal experience The ride quality on phantom is on another level, purely magic. Maybach is a modified S class with extra stuff inside nothing special about it
As a mechanic, it seems that the Maybach is full of things that will go expensively wrong in 10-15 years while the RR will keep going for twice that. It's not a problem for the first owner but as these cars age it will be an issue on the second or third hand market.
RR is not a reliable car. And a switch costs as a 10 year old s class.

I never forget the first time a RR Phantom drove by next to me. Me sitting in the driver seat of a normal limousine and the front of the RR still being at the hight of my shoulders - these cars are gigantic…
The Phantom is ridiculously big. At 6 meters long, it dwarfs the Suburban by nearly 300 mm in length. That's about the same difference as the E Class and long wheelbase S Class, and yet the Phantom is a 4 seat sedan.
@@smar1208 Yeah. The phantom is longer than my school bus(Tempo Traveller Scholar edition). Even the Maybach is bigger but the difference is negligible. Force motors used to run ads in India showing off how compact their buses are by comparing them with the S class and showing how they were smaller.

I used to have a 1986 420sel W126 and I loved it. Picked her up for about 1500 bucks and put around 60k miles on the engine before I decided it was time to find something else more easy on gas. It was honestly an experience; driving her wherever I wanted to go. This era of S-classes can’t even be compared to the current era.
The get in helmet, has to be the funniest thing I’ve seen in a great while.

That exterior rear quarter view on the Maybach is simply stunning! The way the roof line flows into the trunk, the small window forward of the B-pillar... yes, absofreakinlutely beautiful! I'd definitely take the Maybach over the Rolls.

‘Ehh I dunno man. There are a lot of people who can afford a $180k car. However, im sure that number is drastically reduced at $400k. One is an “I make good money” car, the other is an “I have no clue how much money I have” car.
A lot of generationally wealthy people count every penny they spend, they always look for ways to get the best deal possible and argue over miniscule amounts as long as they come out on top. Its often the new money that buys these "toys" that depreciate hourly.

Very much agree, coming from a diehard BMW fan, I was driven in a s class (not maybach) not too long ago while I was visiting Germany, and I'm sorry but I was flying at 200kmh. Absolutely impeccable driving. It's also much more modern feeling than the rolls and probably, as a tech person, would be better for me.
It's sad that the Maybach was once a full car, now it's just a trim level.

I’m a huge Top Gear fan, as I’m sure many here are. For years I’d rewatch clips of banter between Clarkson, May, and Hammond when I want to relax and laugh. That sort of magic is extraordinarily rare, but during this review you made me laugh just like the banter of May and Clarkson comparing the Corniche and Grosser. And imho, there is no better praise than that
Lincoln Town signature series had very smooth sailing rides. No harsh road bumps or pot holes would affect the ride.
The Maybach and Phantom both are exquisite rides. Each one has amazing, truly distinct qualities that reign luxury. Royalty at its finest. The interior of the Maybach is ravishing, with excellent attention to detail and comfort. The ambient lighting is a sharp detail along with the rotating tweeters. It is equipped to adapt to every element life throws at it. I admire how Mercedes continues to push the envelope with new concepts. Absolutely, brilliant and beautiful. 💫 The Phantom color is truly unique, and the doors are classic. The soundproofing system is impeccable along with comfort. The chrome detail finishing from front to back is superb. I bet it rides light as a feather. 🦚
Ok, Rolls is the undisputed king of luxury, but comon man, Maybach does deserve some appreciation for where they've reached: battling Rolls and Bentley directly. Idk, but its the Maybach for me; its friggin unique. ❤ Great video guys, love you both all day ❤ 🙌 😀

I just wanted to add that Mercedes is expanding the Maybach upwards and will, hopefully, get to Rolls Royce territory. I have said since the reintroduction of the Maybach as the Mercedes-Maybach S, that they should do this. I'm glad to finally see that they are taking steps in that direction. I hope they take to all the way. First the introduced the Virgil Abloh edition of the Mercedes-Maybach...but the real kicker is the Haute Voiture edition. In the future, Mercedes-Maybach might be customized similar to the Haute Voiture with bespoke options that wealthy owners want to "make it theirs"...just as they did with the original Maybach and how they do now with Rolls Royce.
Years ago, maybach 62, it is in same league as rolls royce. But it did not sell well, because most people dont know what maybach are.

It was more like building a Rolls Royce where you sit down and work with a specialist to get the car exactly the way you want it...with bespoke options. While the Maybach brand was initially unknown except for vintage car afficionados, word did get around especially after many celebrities picked up a Maybach. Irrc, Puff Daddy even bought his son one for his 16th birthday. J Lo had one...a 62 which I saw up for sale a few years ago. I think Jay Z picked one up too. Also, Madonna, Rihanna, even Charlie Sheen had one. I think one of the biggest problems was the inability to differentiate the Maybach from the regular S-class. Too many components were shared between the "exclusive" Maybach and the "common" regular S-Class. Even in the overall exterior styling department, the Maybach looked too close to the S-Class. Some people simply balked at the idea of spending twice as much to have the car potentially confused for the commonplace S-Class. This led to poor sales and then came the Financial Crisis of 2008 which pretty much killed all hope for the original Maybach. This is what I found with the original Maybach. I thought that instead of a separate/standalone division, Mercedes should have incorporated it into the S-Class lineup as a most exclusive S-Class...like how AMG is the exclusive "sports" version. That way, there would be no ambiguity or disappointment with there being shared components. In time, as the S-Class Maybach line became more popular and established, they could take it even higher with more exclusive options, bespoke customizations, etc....like they are doing now.
You correct, but the word "common" regular s class mercedes. It is common for very rich people, but not very common (normal) for average people.
@@rebelusa6585 I beg to differ. You are defining "common" based on affordability/ownership rate, but I am basing it on availability/prevalence rate. While an S-Class is too expensive for most people to buy (new), it is very easy for them to spot on the road...i.e. it is "common". Mercedes sells an average of 17k S-Class sedans a year (range 14k-20k in last 20 years) in the US. In contrast, Chevy sells an average of 20k Corvettes a year (range 9k-30k) in the US. OTOH, Bentley, Rolls Royce, and Maybach are rare in comparison to regular S-Class...and Lamborghini and Ferrari are rare in comparison to a Corvette. They are rare enough that most people would do a double take if they spotted a Rolls or a Lamborghini...and probably try to snap some pics. They wouldn't think twice about an S-Class or a 'Vette. While the way you look at it is not technically wrong, we have to remember that all of these vehicles are outside the scope of most people to afford (when new) but not outside their ability to spot on occasion.
Again, you are correct. But in america, most average people live in a house that cost less money than a new s class. If you buy a used s class for $20k and one day encounter a person that can afford a real (new) s class. That rich person ask, what do you do for a living, you say, i work at McDonald's. Imagine the look on his face and your face. Life are full of injustice. But i used to live in kansas, so i know.
