Kobe Bryant - 32 Pts, 5 Reb
Carmelo Anthony - 34 Pts, 9 Reb
Similar game, different ending for the Los Angeles Lakers. Their 24-year playoff dominance of the Denver Nuggets dissipated over the final 29 seconds of the fourth quarter in the second down-to-the-wire game in the Western Conference finals. Carmelo Anthony led all scorers with 34 points, recording his fifth straight 30-point game in the playoffs. Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 32 points, moving past Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for second all-time in Lakers playoff scoring. With 4,087 playoff points, he is 370 points shy of tying Jerry West for the top spot. Game 3 will be in Denver, where the Nuggets have won 16 straight games dating back to the regular season.

This era of basketball is the reason why I fell in love with the game. Love how the refs let them battle and play at a high level. Now they just soft. Call every petty foul.
Exactly. I love how the regular season had good games, but when the playoffs started, you seen just how much the intensity picked up. Everything was contested and nothing easy at the rim. I use to love that feeling the weekend the playoffs started and you knew you had a whole slate of games to watch.
True, I was trying to figure out why I don't watch as many games as before in recent years and this is the reason that I find out.
It’s even worse now.
@@knowntalmbout not in playoffs/finals
Yes sir the best era we had
This is the brand of basketball that is missed a lot! the grit, the physicality, the mental battles.
This was basketball man. These were the days
Today's basketball is like a touchscreen cellphone, a little touch the refs called a foul😅😅😅😅
As a young Nuggets fan watching this series in 2009 Kobe felt absolutely unstoppable. Looking back now and seeing how much Melo frustrated him gives me so much pleasure. Melo’s game will always be criminally underrated. These were epic duels that we are now unfortunately deprived of in todays quick whistle league.
I love them both 🥰💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛
Melo was 2 inbounds passes away from being in the NBA Finals. And no way they would have lost to Orlando
TheRealRC3 No they were an inbounds pass away from being up 1-0, we don't know if the Nuggets would of gone up 2-0 if Nuggets won game 1 teams make different adjustments after depending on if they win or lose.
stupidnamewaster They had another bad one in game 3 that ruined their chances at winning. Obviously there's no guarantees on anything, but those two botched games all but sealed their fate.
The Lakers were just better sry
AGREED!!!!!
TheRealRC3 Melo is a bum. The great Chauncey Billups was the real reason the Nuggets were so good. As soon as Billups left Melo became a perennial first round exit again, just like he was before Billups That's why the Nuggets were 0-3 without Billups in 08/09 but the Nuggets were 9-7 without Carmelo in 08/09
I loved denvers jerseys
we do loved them they looked so smooth back then
Those and the dark-blue with the yellow lettering were sick. Those jerseys were very underrated. The colors with that team just had that big boy swagger to it; them boys were that squad!
Carmelo Anthony championship dreams ended when he went to the Knicks and re-signed with them.
no
Crazy how ppl hate on kdfor leaving but if he woulda stayed they’re disrespect like they do melo now seems like loyalty gets you nothing
Melo is all about the money
Wished he went to the Bulls and join DRose instead...
He did that for his wife and family
skill, body contact, tight defense on every player before catch the ball...that's the real basketball should be
facts
Does anyone else think these old highlight videos are edited way way better than todays. They set up the whole show and immerse you in the video. Feels deeper and more meaningful with this style. Today one’s are fast paced and kinda feel soulless
Been thinking the same thing. I'm always watching highlights but I find myself not being able to really watch highlights of the past couple seasons cuz they always feel rushed compared to the older highlights.
@@aquila519 yea it’s like highlight speed runs nowadays. Watching these old duel videos feels so much more intense
Totally and idk if it’s just me but I feel like these 2000s-2010s highlights have such a feeling of story lines and real personal moments
@@mdhcccc yea that too. The athletes seemed larger than life. Back then there was like maybe 10 true “stars” in the league. Now all 30 teams have 2-3 so called “stars” but it’s not the same. Also the production, especially pregame, by the networks and broadcasts were much better than they are now.
Because basketball was so much better back then 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🥰💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛💜💛
man this series was LIT AF. miss these days man. competitive af
Man, just imagine if the 04 Pistons drafted Melo. He would've had a couple of rings way before Wade & LeBron.
Melo is just the bully form of Kobe Bryant...simply unguardable
Carmelo coulda got a ring that season man 😓
They failed to contain Trevor Ariza and contest Kobe. They should've focused on Defense a lot. Prevent the lakers from getting that fire .
Could've would've should've: No rings.
@@esvinperez3580 shut up that was his year they blew it
I think if melo focused on guarding Kobe more during the series they would’ve won. Kobe couldn’t get the ball with Melo making him work hard on the post.
Mate, Carmelo is my favorite player ever. The Knicks are my team, lose or win. Looking at this is heartbraking. Melo is HoF without a doubt, but if he had won a ring, he would have been undoubtedly a HoFmer.
And people say Melo can't or don't play defense lol
Erick Kobe went 10-20 scoring 32 he's defense was just aight
Obviously he can. Kobe himself said more than once: Melo is strong as a bull. He just doesn't play that level of D quite consistently.
Quite consistently? Melo basically never plays D. This is the most D I've seen him play in the last 5 yrs. Thats why he'll never be top 10 all time. No one puts him there now either
This is when he cared about winning championships. Why go 100 when everyone only putting up half.
When you had just allow Kobe had only taken 20shots in a game in his prime time, you had done good job on defense.
This is one of my Playoff Series of all time. And it was without doubt the toughest Series for the Lakers back in 2009. Way tougher than the Finals against Orlando.
Lmaoo absolutely bro! And if you're new please hit that sub button, brotha! Would love to see you around :)
I disagree. If you go back and look at the Magic-Lakers series, it could've easily been Los Angeles trailing 1-3. Orlando could've been up if Courtney Lee made that layup in Game 2; they won Game 3; Dwight Howard missed two crucial free throws in Game 4 that would've put the game away before Derek Fisher hit that 3 to tie the game and send it into overtime. The Magic organization also messed up by benching Rafer Alston and letting Jameer Nelson play.
Melo held his own against every legend he faced
He was good with Denver. Everything went down hill after that. Too bad he faced kobe in the west too many times.
@@esvinperez3580 LMAO are you rstupid? He literally had his best season on the knicks and was in the mvp race lol
Basketball was so much better back then
2:10 is GOLD! “I’ll guard Kobe”. Young Melo with tha heart!!
this fr a throwback. 2 legends now off court. one in heaven hooping with bill and the other just stepping off now... i enjoyed both of their attitude and motivation to the game we call BASKETBALL❤
Melo was tough man. I remember watching this West Finals and saying "damn, respect". Not everyone went toe to toe with Kobe like that.
melo lebron only
@@divinedeparture5560And t mac gilbert arenas
lol melo should stop tapping kobe in the head at the 3 point line. Everytime he does that, Kobe just drains the 3 lolol
this days was the real kind of basketball not too sensitive on physical defense if it was today it was already a foul
It’s so sad watching this right now. R.i.p black mamba
Bro these middy pulls are beautiful to watch😭😭😭😭
That was the greatest shootout of that decade. 2000-2010
❤We love and miss you Kobe❤
A bucket vs . A bucket this matchup is very underrated!
"Kobe Bryant... best Laker of all time"
Peter Skotta not anymore XD
Shaq is
Here after he died... I still believe lebrons better but it rly sucks he died
The Majestic Penguin yep lebron better as a player but on a skill basis or 1v1 setting kobe takes it home by a mile but yall underestimating magic johnson
Zach Baquiran7 Magic said himself that Kobe is the greatest laker of all time
People have this misconception that Melo couldn't play D, and that's because they've never watched him play. When he wants to play D, he does. How many people can guard Kobe, and still out up 34 points efficiently
11 points, 8 rebounds in 11 minutes off the bench for Denver that’s crazy.
Cleaza?
I remember this game like yesterday! Such a great battle
This.was the best series
Anyone here after Carmelo retire😢
6:55 god damn, kobe was a monster.
I love those duel videos.
Danty jones got 4 fouls in 6 minutes guarding kobe. Kobe is a beast man
We need these teams in 2k18
Who saw Drake at the end. lol
12:31
who cares ... he is a bandwagon fan anyway....
I'm tellin you right now, there will never be a more PURE scorer in this game than Melo...he's just so smooth..
Facts
KD entered the chat
Wtf this guy kobe is out of his mind, those shots at 9:30 and 10:30 were just insane, straight stare down with the defeneder tapping u on the forehead, and kobe just pulls up with the hand in his face and makes the shot... smh kobe is ridiculous lol
Post game 3 asap pleaseee !! Keep up the good work yoo
Back when the tough defense won't be called.
I love the slow cinematic shots, movie like
I’m here after melo and wade ig live story. Melos story about Kobe.
JMAI HOMES facts. Melo had that work
best playoff series of my lifetime
hyped to watch game 2...... 8 years later
The best duel..!!!
This Nugget team was stacked lol
lol..stacked? nah
RYOD How were they not stacked?
2014 Miami Heat = stacked... 09 Nuggets were a solid well built team. 3 of the major players on this team aren't even in the league anymore (Kleiza, Anthony carter, Dhantay Jones).
Read from " Unfortunately, we need to compare Carmelo to a better player" grantland.com/features/carmelo-anthony-new-york-knicks-legacy/
RYOD they had Melo,JR,Kenyon, and I think this the team with Chauncey Billups
it was amazing I love you melo
while melo defended kobe, the eyes staring are so great. How serious defending is
Man this was probably the closest my Nuggets will ever be to The Finals... this was our year man. Sigh.
We got alot of potential man, stay positive
How are you feeling today man?
Congrats
Well well well...lol
2 of my favourite players
Haha, thanks for watching it all, man. Appreciate it so much Itd mean alot if you could sub and join the family bro :) I try to make entertaining NBA content as much as I can brotha!
Alright bro,I love NBA
GD's Highlights
I miss this kind of Basketball
Rip Kobe rip Gigi
Anthony: no one can guard me Kobe: yes no one can guard you, but you can't beat me
The intensity of the game damn.
When people tell me that Melo can’t play defense I show them the Lakers and Nuggets 09 series.
Carmelo the best in the world
No
Fuck u
Trevon Davis y use profanity
Because who's going to stop me and im a grown ass man
#BLACKKAT23 #BLACKMAMBA824 #VINCENITY15 #SHAQATTACK3234 🏆
Idc melo had a top 3 looking jumper... it's so beautiful to ser every time
Back when NBA is a real action.
Lol they were tryna put Kenyon on Kobe... 2:00
Melo has the sweetest jumper in NBA history!
My 2 favorite players in the game
Idk if it was a combo of Billups and Karl to mentor him, but if Carmelo Anthony kept playing like this he would be a champion.
austin78993 nah Karl didn’t mentor Melo he was a good coach and probably coached Melo the best out of all the coaches Melo played with in the nba but never tried to make a connection with Melo past basketball like most great coaches do their relationship was more professional which sucks cuz I feel like if he tried to connect with Melo and elevate his game Melo would have been better
Man, that Lakers team was so much fun to watch...
This was a dope series
Although they won at the end, Melo looks shook in that interview 🤣
This guy Melo slaps kobes eyelashes @ 9:34 haha savage
fans never mention this melo performance against the great kobe bryant
alejandrothefader bro you miss my point or maybe i worded it wrong what i was trying to say was like fans always bash melo and say he does not do anything in the playoffs yet him and one of the best players i ever seen went head to head and basically cancelled each other out and also i was not saying this in a negative way and i did watch this entire series
alejandrothefader dang its deep you broke it down to what i basically been saying for the longest very little i could to add to this and to me melo game has always been under appreciated the media greatly over exaggerate his weaknesses and always focus on it
alejandrothefader for sure man i am going to school for sports and i use to play and its part of my passion
alejandrothefader shit man the truth you just put out there earned you a subscriber! Hope you heal soon!
alejandrothefader well don't lose hope man. And I hope you do inspire them youngbloods. Show them what real basketball is. Show them that it's not just pure skill and fancy moves it's also hardwork and fundamentals too. Thats what these bandwagons and egotistical fans are missing nowadays, they all fall for those overhyped players who dont have the achievements too back it up. Hope to see some of your tuturials man. Goodluck out there 👊
Miss these years :/
Melo can play D, and be competitive on both ends. But, he chose not to because it's a lot of work. In truth I think it's his conditioning, he doesn't have the stamina to do so, why, because he doesn't want to put in the hard work off the court. To be one of the greatest, you got to play D.
The era when it wasnt about teamin up superstars
best matchup ever! both ends were great.....
I miss u kobe idol
Carmelo was so underrated
Miss Kobe Bryant so much rip❤️❤️ mamba mentality 🐍
Rest in peace :(
They were playing some DEFENSE man
Great players and teams but the better team and player won this series
KOBE MELO and MJ are the most box officed players of all time just look at kobe and Melos team, their teams are one of the worst teams in the NBA but look at the garden it's full no matter what same for the staples center and MJ is the greatest so he always brings a crowd
Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Lakers second Western Conference Finals matchup in 2009 & 2020.
Melo was dangerous from the moment he was a nuggets .. HES A BEAST
I'm not a die hard Laker fan, but I was going for the Lakers. I thought Billups would get them past the Lakers based on how he beat them when he was in Detroit. I was nervous.
Dang that game 1
Can see why Artest was traded for in this series, aswell as the Boston one the following seasons. Ariza is fantastic getting up and down the floor and was becoming a very good peice but just doesnt have the strength to deal with these physical SF's like Melo, Pierce, Artest himself, Lebron etc
***** Very well could be true, I wouldn't know, just saying on the court it was a good decision which I was always unsure about.
anybody else notice drake at the end lol
right lol
Wtf was he wearing
Melo fans swear this game makes Carmelo a good defender 😂
Yup! Prime Melo was AMAZING tho Would be awesome if you could hit sub and like :) Wanna see you around :) Also check out my last video if you haven't already! kzhead.info/sun/hMWuqMNtpJmvonk/bejne.html
That's the point though, he can play defense but he chooses not to, it just shows his lazyiness
9:51 look at the lady taking pics with a camera gotta be cool memories
AYO, Young Drake in the camo at 12:30!! 😂😂
Classic
Reason kobe has a smoother jump shot and drives to basket compared to lebron melo and durant is because he has a decent cross over. Same with Curry. Cross gives him good space for the jump shot. Durant has crazy reach though.
Melo got handle u better watch more
When history repeats itself
The physicallity and mental battles on this era is far diifer compared to current time. Now you are witnessing flops and late calls, team win through flops.
I miss this kind of games in nba! Very solid and no flop! Todays era are soft and boring
Where do you download ur games? This one wasnt even on the site u put in the description.
This is the basketball that nowadays doesnt have the duel of the 2 aces facing each other because todays game aces player was forgoten
10:15 Jeff.G "best laker of ALL TIME!" iii agree !!!
18 in the 4th.. this is old man Bryant, not even prime. Lol
+Aj Iceberg He was still in his prime at this time.
+Aj Iceberg He was out of his prime around 11-12
+artunnn3 I think the best version of Kobe was 2007-Achilles. Just all around mamba greatness
+Noyan F1 his best year was 2006. That was the year he was putting up 40 like nothing. The 81 point year.
best years between 07-11 Anybody who knows basketball knows this.. Don't Just pay attention to scoring stats n shit.. It was his most complete, mature, prime stage of basketball
When defense was still part of the game
the Best NBA era
Melo, billups, k-mart, jr, nene, birdman. Damn that nuggets team was loaded!
Kobe definitely played the tougher competition btwn Kobe and lebron .. most of the championship contenders were in the west.. suns,spurs,mavs,nuggets,2002 kings, thunder and that’s only to get to the finals..
