  • I remember having trouble throwing left high-kicks and I only started having success after emulating the way TJ threw his high-kicks. I always wanted to be a switch-hitter but had trouble fighting in the southpaw stance but after imitating the way TJ fights I started having more success. Conclusion: TJ literally helped me improve the way I trained by just watching him lol. I also find his fighting style very aesthetically pleasing, it might not be the most powerful or even the most efficient way of fighting but damn does his fighting style look stylish ! To me it’s not just about scoring the most points or even knocking out or submitting your opponents but you should also look good while you’re doing all of these things, you know kind of like in Devil May Cry where it’s not just about killing demons but also doing it in the most stylish way.

A few years later getting big into watching UFC, I started copying TJ's stance switches and lateral movement to set them up and got amazing at them. It also feels incredibly freeing to emulate his style. Maybe it was because I was young and light, but almost nobody could catch me anymore. I'm 21 now planning on going pro and still use it.

    • It is a much better and tricky option because typically in boxing, fighters tend to slip and dip to that side. With the separate boxing training these guys do it can be hard to translate and separate those habits. E.g. watch Floyd fight and how he defends and than imagine if head kicks were thrown into the mix 💀

      @Babyhippo13@Babyhippo13 Жыл бұрын
    • @@Babyhippo13 I agree the boxing element makes this a particularly dangerous kick, and you will have a stronger kick coming from the rear power leg, but when people are mirror-stanced, you have a greater distance to cover and when you have 2 seasoned athletes fighting, that means even more time to put up a defence/move- hence why head kicks off the front leg to the lead head side became so prominent.

  • The start of his kick looks like a takedown attempt, causing the opponent to lower his hands and head to defend the shot. Also noticed that because he doesn’t kick as high he can better recover if the kick glances off (seems to frequently happen in this clip) or misses completely. Most of his kicks would land on the opponents upper arms if it wasn’t for that entry to the kick causing the opponent to drop down to defend the shot they think is coming.

    @juanherrera2859@juanherrera2859 Жыл бұрын
    • Only seems telegraphed in compilations like this. In practice, the ‘telegraph’ is actually a feint. TJ dipping low could either be for a takedown or a body shot which would cause you to back up or drop your hands. Last thing you’d expect from an opponent dipping low is a head kick which would catch you if you drop your hands and the reach of a leg could catch you if you don’t life back far enough

    • TAM brings in a new coach in Duane Ludwig, that coach says TJ trains harder and wants it more than the rest (proven true), Urijah takes offense, they cast Duane out, TJ trains with both TAM and Duane, then Urijah gives him the ultimatum of either TAM or Ludwig where TJ chose Duane. That's the story in short. Now you point out what TJ did that was so wrong? Here's a good tip in life: When someone gives you an ultimatum between them or someone/something else, always pick the someone/something else. Why? Because it means they've already made up their minds. They give you that ultimatum, meaning they are prepared that you will not pick them. They are already done with you. TJ did the right thing. He got better with Duane. It's a shame that Urijah could never stop seeing TJ as his personal prodigy. Yes he coached him into MMA, but TJ was his own man and had his own family already at that point. It was his career. Faber should've wished him all the best and let him be.
