    • I think the resistance between air and water are different. That being said some hulls (such as my Regal Fastrac) that have a step in them seem to work for lift. Maybe several steps back to back on hulls would work?

    • @@562562562562562 he never had reached a top speed higher than Reggie, he only had a higher average between 2 laps, Reggie’s boat is still the fastest V bottom with a top speed. In rough water conditions, the fountain went over 190 mph. In calm water conditions, the outerlimits went 187. The average between the two laps for the outerlimits was 181 mph, the average for the fountain was 177 mph. In the end Fountain is the world’s fastest V bottom

  • Rip Mike Fiore Ironic that Reggie Fountain has done hundreds of races and kilo runs, and Mike passes away before Reggie. Granted Reggie never ran a Catamaran, and Mike was killed in a catamaran speed record attempt running.

    • csonkaperdido sad day when we lost Mike. I actually worked for both Fountain and Outerlimits. Both great boats but the rigging and finish work with Outerlimits was on a different level. Mike made sure everything was perfect.

    • I worked for both Reggie and Paul/Mike Fiore. One thing I will say is that Reggie did in fact run in a Cat and he actual raced with one in the late 90’s however it wasn’t a speed record attempt. Mike was a brilliant mind and V bottoms will never be the same without him. You have Mike Peters at fountain, you have the late Mark Spates that did most Donzi, Extreme, Statement steps bottoms along with several others. With all the old minds dying away I feel it is time for the younger minds to step up.

    • There's a 47 with 3x1350s in Sweden that runs in the high 120s/low 130s(I think...the owner won't say what his WOT is). Which brings me to the question of how heavy are the Fountains now that a new company is building them?? Could the new 42s come near to the V bottom speed record with 1650s?

      @dieseldog00@dieseldog002 жыл бұрын
    • @@dieseldog00 the 42’s are about 8000 pounds with motors and drives. The problem with the 42 is that there is not enough bottom to break 175-180. The speed record set by the outer limits 42 was about as fast as you will ever get with a 42 foot hull. The will need the 47 with triple 1550’s to hit close to 200.

      @eugeneweeks3325@eugeneweeks33252 жыл бұрын
    • @@eugeneweeks3325I believe a 47 weighs around 15000lbs? Cut down the deck, strip it of everything not racing related and put 3x1750s in it. 200 might be achievable. OL got 180 with twin 1650s but APBA might sanction whatever speed the Fountain achieves...but maybe not...Three 1750s is a TON of money. 1350s are $225k each. That would put the 1750s well over $1m.

      @dieseldog00@dieseldog002 жыл бұрын
    • @@dieseldog00 money is not an issue when your trying to set a world speed record. The 47 with carbon fiber lamination with 3 motors and drives should weigh about 11,000 pounds. With huge power in all 3 engines you should be in the 190’s or possibly 200.
