    • ***** So, by your logic, if a book it's written on a computer, it's not art? An ilustrator uses a digital drawing pad is not an artist? Programming it's only half what the game is. textures, character models, music and script are made by human beings with creativity and artistry. People who draw sketches on paper, write story ideas on notebooks and jam with an instrument until something beautiful comes out of it. Art is art, regardless the tool you use to make it, in this case (mainly) a computer, or the medium you choose to expose it. Ergo, games can be art.

  • Every time I get back here, I realize. The soundtrack itself is nothing earth shattering. The gameplay is fun, but nothing groundbreaking. The story, while not that often used is not new either. The characters are not overly deep and can be summed up in a few words. Yet the story makes the simple characters shine. The characters give meaning and emotional depth to the soundtrack. The soundtrack makes the gameplay more engaging. The gameplay paces the story just perfect. All in all, despite consisting of merely above avarage components, the way they are weaved together makes the game exceptional. While I like to refrain from making such statements openly, I do think that Transistor is masterfully put together.

    @OzixiThrill@OzixiThrill8 жыл бұрын
    • +OzixiThrill exactly, Transistor consists *only* of above average elements, and if you think about it, there isn't a lot of games like that.

      @space_cowboy007@space_cowboy0078 жыл бұрын
    • TwiggyWan Kenobi It's not exclusively above avarage... The music and story can be considered above avarage. The gameplay is pretty avarage and the characters, I'd venture as far as to say were below avarage.

      @OzixiThrill@OzixiThrill8 жыл бұрын
    • it's up to how you felt about both gameplay and story then. From my games experience it definitely stood apart.

      @space_cowboy007@space_cowboy0078 жыл бұрын
    • +OzixiThrill The story is actually *really* groundbreaking, if you take the time to "smell the roses" (aka pick up most of the little hints and bits here and there) and think about it. The main themes of the game seem to be how and if "true" change/progress can be achieved when everything recurs aka "goes in circles" - and, to a lesser extent, what it means to be "human" in a digital society/world.

      @Nr4747@Nr47478 жыл бұрын
    • Nr4747 Which is groundbreaking how exactly? It is far from the first game, (not to mention other media) to tug on the concept of what it means to be human, in any enviroment, really. The events that try to evoke these thoughts are ones that don't take insane levels of imagination to come up with. So, again, I ask - How exactly do you think that Transistor's story is groundbreaking?

I picked it up for free on PSN so obviously I can't say if it is worth buying but it probably is with a summer sale. The only issue I see is lack of replay-ability, but the reason to keep playing that I am aware of is to experiment with all the abilities you earn.

      @TokeTaker420@TokeTaker4209 жыл бұрын
    • Airborne I think this game is literally my favorite 'indie' game - period. It is a sum that is greater than its parts. The production (Graphics, artistic style, inspiration, music) is fantastic, but the mechanics are equally as immersive, with so many different combat possibilities that game quite honestly allows you to play it your way and find a strategy that works for you where many options exist. Finally the story is very interesting, and thought provoking - perhaps a little esoteric, but definitely deep. After Bastion, I payed full price for entry and did not regret it. Play it if you like action RPGs and/or SciFi in the vain of Cowboy Bebop, The Matrix, Blade Runner, or The Crow

  • Is it weird that I listen to this (and the extended version) for pretty much every situation? I listen to this in the car, on the bus, doing schoolwork, or just general background noise when I'm wandering the internet, drawing, or just chilling like I've (literally) memorized what piece comes after the other as well as the general tune for the hummed version I think I have a problem here

    @e1221@e12219 жыл бұрын
    • Not at all, that's the kind of thing good music should get out of someone, and honestly, I think the idea that video game music is somehow less valid than regular music is a load of bunk and this among other wonderful pieces we get exposed to is undeniable proof of that, but I suppose I'm not a musically gifted sort so the most I know of it is what I like, but anyway. For me this is music I like to listen to when I'm feeling particularly downbeat, either I've had one of those days at work or I'm just for whatever reason feeling kinda down. I remember one time when I was feeling particularly lonely and I got my whiskey on, I was listening to this and when Paper Boats came on I just broke down HARD, I was sobbing something fierce, it was really quite a pathetic display, can't think of any other time music has ever had such an effect on me, sure I've been choked up by music before but never like this. So honestly, if you have a problem, then I have an even bigger one, hope that reassures you =p

I honestly think a hole was left in the general "gaming community" when he passed. But he has forever been immortalised as one of the most used Twitch emotes, and if getting your face spammed thousands of times a second in front of millions of people isn't a solid legacy by itself, idk what is :^)

  • God man, Supergiant's games are so elevated by their music. I've been playing games since I was 5 years old, and I can say with fair certainty that the boss fight against Sybil to 'In Circles' is just locked into my brain as one of the most memorable moments I've played in a game. I think its due to how Red sounds so regretful and vengeful. The fight is sad and bitter and a moment of triumph against a selfish person who genuinely cared for Red. The way the villains of Transistor accidentally doomed Cloudbank in their hubris is just a detail I love, it colors the whole story in this very human way. I always forget how awesome and emotionally complex the stories this studio creates are, and then another game comes out....

I can't recall the amount of times I've listened to it and feels like I'm never gonna get tired of it. The game, along with the music, really had a big impact on me. Cheers to you, Supergiant Games! I think there's something about the way the beat comes in and the bass that reminds me of music I used to listen to when I was miserable teen. There is this lonely feeling in the world and it kind of makes me feel we're set in the future where outside is scorched by the sun or the sun doesn't exist anymore so they turned a city into a bubble and created a false sky. People tried to live like they once did but crazy shit happens. It's not a hack and slash bloody game so don't waste your time if you're looking for blood. This game is a special type. I thoroughly enjoyed this style of gaming and hope they come out with more.

The music actually changes in the game, it changes depending on a few things. This attention to atmosphere makes the game ever so more enjoyable to play when the beautiful tones of Ashley Barrett's voice soothe your eardrums while you bash a whole manner of nasty little processes with your USB (c'mon, you know it looks like one) sword. From a total perspective bastion is the better game for a bit.

    • @@zakaria653 Good list. I haven't played Hades yet but my ranking of the three I have played would be Transistor for gameplay, Pyre for story, and Bastion is a tough one. I was going to say art direction but then I remembered Pyre is drop dead gorgeous as well. I love them all though.

  • People call me crazy when i say this was the best game ever, the sound track alone would demolish any triple A game. Let alone the immersion of its story can only be described as perfection. I want to play this till the end of time.

    • what do you think of the statement art is in the eye of the beholder? Isent art something more personal, if it opens your mind, amazes you, makes you feel, is it art? and doesnt that differ from person to Person? just how I used to think about art

      @SridalB@SridalB7 жыл бұрын
    • Art is technically what our eyes pass to our brians, since it's basically just a collection of colours, sounds etc. and we just have a habbit of connecting those to a certian feeling. So either you say art still exists for ourselfes even when we don't see it (hearing a tree fall) in which case: Art is everywhere or nowhere. Or we ourself have just as much part in making a painting, art as the artist. Placebo pills have a succes rate of about 40%. Our mind is doing some work and what we believe to be, has a good chance of actually existing.
