Our Audio Director Darren Korb traveled all the way to world-famous Studio Two at Abbey Road Studios in London to record the music for "The Songs of Supergiant Games: The 10th Anniversary Orchestral Collection". He was joined by vocalist Ashley Barrett, conductor/arranger Austin Wintory, and a talented team of musicians to record the album, which is presented here with the original visuals that accompanied the live orchestral performances at PAX West 2019 and PAX East 2020.

Waiting for this to release this year has been basically the hardest thing I could imagine. This was the best time ever in a studio, bringing Darren's absolute genius to life in a new way. His songs will outlive as us all
Thanks so much, Austin!! Your work inspired many of us long before we had an opportunity to collaborate on this one.
@@supergiantgames It's an honor solely belonging to me, I promise
Your influence on this album is so clear, It makes me so happy seeing some of my favourite musicians collaborating on such a great project!
Beautiful work from all of you! Well said!
For Austin himself to speak so highly of Darren and the team... Just more of a confirmation of how great Supergiants music is. Both Austin Wintory and Darren Korb must be my favorite musicians of all time. And to have them collaborate on this album, explains why this sounds so good. I can listen to their music endlessly over and over. Great artists.
I can speak on behalf of all the instrumentalists accompanying Darren & Ashley, when I say that we all had an incredibly fun time at these sessions. It was a career highlight for me, and these arrangements were genuinely enjoyed by all the others. Thank you Supergiant :D
Y'all did an amazing job!!
Nate Horsfall, Visualist here: I'm absolutely thrilled to be part of this, and I need to give massive thanks to Darren for hitting me up as these Pax shows were my first Orchestral gig, and then massive thanks to SG themselves for providing 20+ GIGS of art assets to work with when I just asked for "a some high rez versions" and instead got PSDs, PNG sequences, and etc. It's that outpouring of trust that really let these videos shine! I also need to mention I unfortunately had not played any of SG's previous 3 titles games when I got this offer, so I at least sat down for a week and watched play throughs of all of them. It was crystal clear that: these are amazing games, and the fans and studios NEED them to be done justice, so I hope I did that for you all! I said previous 3 games btw. I've clocked 60+ hours of Hades. Couldn't miss their next title! Now I just need to go back and work through the others, even if they've all been spoiled :) Hope for more in the future when shows are allowed again! Stay healthy and safe til then, everyone!
Thank you Nate! Your amazing work brought these performances to new levels at PAX, the album and its creation wouldn't be the same without it!
I love the music and had already requested the album for Christmas...but the visuals for this video along with the music make it even better...which I would have thought was impossible. Thank you for bringing another sensory element to this fantastic work of art.
Thank you!
Dude... the visuals in Paper Boats are INCREDIBLE. Fantastic job
@@fang_xianfu Incredible job on the visuals!
It's kind of ridiculous how much of a musical masterpiece every single one of the games in the Supergiant catalogue is.
Which is just one of many reasons why I love them all so much
@Meddlecat Darren also does the voice of Zagreus and Skelly in Hades.
Darren Korb is 👌👌👌
Supergiant is truly magnificent. A gem of a team.
@@RaiohTheHunter He voices Zagreus?????
I'm not emotionally over how Bastion's medley is called "Remember the Bastion". Because, I do remember it, and that hit me like a truck
Yes by god I remember, and it was glorious
I played it this year, and it still hit me like Truck-san xD and I was sent to an Isekai
in an age of fps and where killing is seen as a normal mechanic, playing bastion opened my perception of what a videogame is, when we saved zulf, we knew that we would not be making it back, yet we did it knowing that fact, but when we downed our last potion, suddenly we noticed the ura stopped firing, just that simple scene in the gameplay delivered such a powerful message, its one thing to deliver a story in a cutscene but another in the gameplay part
These dudes have made 4 games, ever. Four. And yet each one has left such a fucking ball bustingly large impact that they can get away with naming a medley of theri first game 'Remember the Bastion', because these 4 games have been a journey that 100 games would have difficulty replicating.
We All Become with that cut right as she says "silence", Mmm! So good!
Love to see the OGs Bastion, Transistor and (my favourite) Pyre getting some well-deserved attention! I love the epic take on these classics. Everyone involved outdid themselves with these masterpieces.
its so awesome to see the other games getting the love!! orchestral we all become and paper boats really hit different 🥺
Good taste.
40:00 Setting Sail/Coming Home starting with the Kid carrying Zulf on screen: Ho this is it then. No punches pulled. You really want me to cry right here, right now. Okay then. Let's go...
They went for the throat. Fuck. Still one of my top 5 moments in any game ever, that sequence.
Makes you wonder what those who left Zulf behind feel about that.
@@Taliesin_ That was the most epic moment in gaming for me. The kid gets pelted with arrows, bullets and spears and keeps trudging forward while carrying one of his supposed enemy; His tenacity and determination stops the Uras from attacking, be it out of respect or sheer bewilderment.
Ashley Barrett's and Darren Korb's voices were made for each other. Honestly, the melodies and the harmony they are able to achieve together move me in ways I've never felt before. Every member of team Supergiant deserve all the praise in the world for the work they've put into their 4 perfect titles, but this music truly is the heart and soul of these games for me. It's not just the quality of these songs that make them so special, but also the way they are married to the characters and the world of their respective games that we all love so dearly. Thank you, Supergiant Games, for the 10 magical years you've given us. I'll be rooting for you all throughout the Game Awards this year. :)
I'm so glad you included bastion at the end I didnt think it was gonna be apart of this. It was the first game I played from you guys and eventually made me buy all your other games. I loved all of them and I love you guys so much and hope that you will continue to make amazing games!
Of course! We could never leave Bastion behind. Thank you for giving it a chance and playing our games!
The only logical question to ask after is "how many halls of fame does Darren Korb qualify for?"
Korn, tunes for the tune god!
@@MrBanjooo Songs for the Song Throne!
@@ZebulonsPi Noise Marines would be much more soothing if they just played Darren Korb music instead of Slaneesh dubstep
The answer is Yes.
Don't know why but I got a bit emotional when the characters of Pyre started flashing on screen during In the Flame. It was just so beautiful Edit: it happened again during Paper Boats but that didn't surprise me, that song is so emotional. Edit 2: Oh boy Remember the Bastion hit hard. Considering it's my favourite game of all that I've played, the rush of memories was pretty powerful. I only missed not hearing In case of trouble in there since that song was so iconic to Bastion. Still, this album blew me away. Darren's music was always fantastic but this brought it to a whole new level. It managed to make me emotional three times each in its own way and encaptured so much of what made the original music so great.
pyre music especailly never to return and in the flame allways make me tear up.
Pyre is the only game I sit down at least once a year and reflect on about whether I made the "right" choice or not. Is there an opposite of survivor's guilt? Martyr's guilt? That's the best I can describe this feeling.
@@ClintEPereira Yeah sometimes i feel bad for saving people as they might not see there friends again.
I sang along, and when the characters came on during In The Flame, my voice just cracked and I just broke down in tears and started crying. This really brought back the memories I had, and not only what I saw and what I read, but especially how I felt during the game, and how much I missed every of the characters. It was as if I was back in that time, back when I finished the game and realized it was all over. This game and its soundtrack really cut deep into me, and I will forever keep it in a special place in my heart.
Austin Wintory and Darren Korb collaborating on what can arguably be called some of the best video game music ever made is one of my favorite things i've ever stumbled on at 3 in the morning.
"In the Flame" and "Paper Boats" have been given insane new instrumentalisations. And the Bastion segment has been breathed new life into it.
I had been a fan of paper boats for so long, since there was always something new to discover, depending on the volume and clarity of the headphones/ speakers used, but this version, topples everything to a new level...
I didn't realize all the songs from Transistor were living in my brain like this.
I haven't cried for many years, the instrumental on Mother I'm here brought me to tear up, I thank you all...
never to return allways makes me tear up
I literally did as well. I wasn't even expecting myself to. The evokes such emotion. This music is a masterpiece.
begin recursion ()
I love you all so much.
Ending the album with an instrumental-only version of "Mother, I'm Here" and then moving into "Setting Sail, Coming Home"... Perfection
Build That Wall will always send shivers down my spine.
Listening to this all the way through today brings me SO much joy! What an experience - so happy with how this turned out! SO grateful to everyone at Supergiant, Darren & Austin.
Thank you so much for the work you've done over the years to make Supergiant's music so unforgettable, Ms. Barrett. I sincerely appreciate it. Here's to many happy returns!
The harmonies in Lament of Orpheus were so pretty
The release announcement for this was the first time I was glad to get an @everyone ping
This may be the most positive comment section in all of youtube, and I love it
The Bastion medley is clearly the centerpiece here, but the Pyre songs have translated beautifully as well. Goddamn.
Of all the Supergiant games I think I'm most in love with Transistor. Excellent game mechanics but an even greater story. A singer bereft of her voice, in the wake of a strange apocalypse, fighting to preserve what remains of her city and ultimately triumphant, regaining her voice and rejoining her lover, after a fashion. I don't think Transistor could have worked half as well if it weren't a game. The immersion, the music and journey, all were so very beautiful.
Never stop Super Giant.
My old favourite tracks with a touch of what Darren Korb is capable of today. As we grew with these games, the studio grew with us. This is just wonderful, no more words needed
Im not kidding when i say that Ashley Barret is what i believe what angels sing like, i can only imagine myself leaving this world while "Never to return or Good Riddance" plays in my ascend to the afterlife, the reason Supergiant Games is called like that, it's because they have absolute titans in this type of industry, the stories, the quality, the love to their craft and art, it is SUPERGIANT, puts most of the "Big" boys of the industry to shame
Darren is the Hans Zimmer of videogames. These were all great games to begin with but it was always the soundtrack that brought them together. As someone who dabbles into music I can say these songs are a magnificent achievement. I agree with Austin, some of these will continue to live on indefinitely. Amazing work.
Thank you for this early Christmas gift, Supergiant
38:10 A wild kazoo appears! (I suspect it was more of an energetically-played trumpet but its sudden bravado in this very strong, very emotional medley made me unexpectedly burst out of laughter)
It was lead Trombone Andy Wood using a plunger and some flutter-tongue sass! He improvised that bit too, you can see him do it in the music video. Phenomenal player!
@@jangoisbaddest Woah, a trombone and a plunger indeed, haha! I had mistakenly assumed that all the individual videos were only segments of this one... The footage in the one about Bastion really provides additional depth to the whole performance. Kudos to you all! (Also, Supergiant's Twitter account led me to your notes on the arranging process and I am definitely reading them one of these days *-*)
@@jangoisbaddest Well, thank you for your notes: here I am again, feeling like I can dive into these layers of music even more, from She Shines' noir tone to In Circles' strings illustrating the lyrics * - *
@@goyavoyage I have been listening pretty obsessively as well, in spite of how much I studied and worked on it. A testament to the immortality of Darren's writing!
One of my favorite things about what Super Giant Games does is that they give proper respect to music while making their games. The details, the slight variations to match the situation your playing in. Thank you.
My heart ached for those last few measures, when the Bastion logo came on screen. Your games and Darren’s music have meant so much to me. Thank you for ten years of hard work. Here’s to ten more!!
Bastion OST will always have a soft spot in my heart. It's so timeless.
And here i am , crying again watching Paper Boats
We have just been blessed, I've been waiting for this for such a long time... I'm such a sucker for orchestral music, this is a dream come true
I find extra things to run around looking at in the main hall of the House whenever Orpheus is singing, just to take in Darren Korb’s incredible falsetto. Coming out of the Pool of Styx to the sound of his singing is one of the nicest treats in game for me. Blown away by how much he’s contributed to each of these games, and happy to get to experience so many aspects of his talent!
I don't think I've been as consistantly moved by art as I have been with this catalogue. Supergiant has made more of an impact with a handful of heartfelt games than some decades-long franchises are able to accomplish with dozens.
My god, that version of The Spine is absolutely sublime.
I'm here in Italy, late at night under a blanket watching the first snow of the year, tear down my eye moved by the experience. Thank you.
I wanna have a serious chat with the 1 guy who disliked
Your music is magical, Supergiant Games. Never stop being you.
Darren Korb and Ashley are just MASTAPIECE
Supergiant games are the only ones I re-imagine as Broadway stage shows; amazing storytelling, fantastic visuals, believable characters, wrapped up with sublime music and vocals.
Paper Boats is marvelous.
These are amazing- as someone who doesn’t often listen to music or seek out new things to listen too, I’ve always adored Supergiant Games music. It is *perfection*.
I love how half of these are Transistor (fav game) and yet the best song is undoubtably Remember the Bastion
I can't believe i'm just hearing this. Always remember the Bastion. Always.
I played Transistor after getting it for free on Epic Games Store... and I loved it. It made me buy Bastion right away after finishing it. I added it to my backlog and it stood there for a while. After all the hype Hades got last year, I decided to buy it as well, and so I played Bastion and Hades next. I just couldn't get enough of Supergiant games. I got Pyre and just recently beat it. Those games are beautiful works of art - it's the music, the writing, the atmosphere, character design, art direction, damn. I can't even decide on a favorite, they're so equally awesome. I even replayed Transistor this year so I could experience all four games in 2021. You guys are amazing and hearing those songs bring so many memories already. You represent a lot of what's so good about video games and I'm so glad I could experience them. Great work!!
art is alive. you keep it alive. you make beautiful things and no words can describe how thankful we are
So many chills. The visuals of Sybill (both forms) during In Circles are so haunting.
I think Paper Boats hits me the hardest because of that the ending credit song and man that ending made me cry so much and it's my favorite game from Supergiant
She was already the most emotional fight, but Austin straight up propelled Sybil into final boss territory with this arrangement of "In Circles", lordy.
I Think Supergiant Games will win Awards.I think and hope. The Music's are perfect I listening when I working.
Thank you Supergiant For EVERYTHING(really)
These orchestrations really recontextualize some of the songs. Especially The Spine, I think. Makes it feel a little smoother for me, more sweeping than haunting.
Very much so. A lot of them gain a far more fantastical and grand aspect to them at the expense of the more subtle and isolated feeling of the originals. Personally I find In Circles to be affected by this the most, for what originally to me felt like a personal struggle now brings up emotions of an outside conflict. I'm not sure how I like it on some songs for now, but we'll see how the sound grows on me.
How far we've come, from one boy waking up to a fractured world... The games that you all make are some of my favorites of all time, genuine masterpieces, that you take the time you need to make them the best possible version. Your games, your music, and your flawless track record inspire me to create, and to strive towards anything even resembling what you all have managed. I want to give you a truly heartfelt thanks for that. Please keep making great games as long as you can, and keep inspiring more people with your art.
I will ever cry to every games ending scene and music.
I would pay movie theatre tickets for this video. Oh, I can buy a CD, cool!
A wonderful job by the dream team Austin Wintory, Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett along with the entire orchestra. I'll never tire listening to the Transistor Soundtrack, and the standouts on this are "The Spine" and "She Shines". They truly fit the orchestral performances so well that both these performances of "The Spine" and "She Shines" could be in a future Transistor film (were Supergiant Games so inclined to partake in that effort). :) Congratulations to all those who worked on this project for making 2020 a bit brighter
This is just further proof that Darren Korb is indeed a wizard.
well, it's that time of the year when i NEED to play all this game again, it's really becoming a yearly tradition.
I CAN HEAR DARREN’S HARMONIES SO CLEARLY ❤️❤️❤️
Darren's harmonies are flawless.
I started listening this at work and I just paused it and thought: It's such a disrespect to this masterpiece and the geniuses behind it to not appreciate it to the fullest. 4 hours later and I'm at home just listening to this, feeling the goosebumps as I see the art in the vid and in my ears... This whole album is a journey, an emotional journey, especially ''Remember the Bastion'', it's incredible how this majestic arrangement made me relieve all I felt while playing the four games, each with such and amazing and heart-touching story, in addition to the soundtracks I often listen to from time to time... This..., this is unique what you guys have here... I'm such at a loss of words to describe this, God... Keep going guys, you truly are the best
I rarely say this word but I love You
I was like, did they forget the Bastion...? and right after Remember the Bastion started playing. One of my most memorable experiences with any videogame ever. Never felt this passionate about any game ever after. Masterpiece.
absolutely in love with all the orchestral transistor songs. we all become, in circles, and paper boats are all such great songs but the orchestral versions are just 100/10. what an awesome christmas gift. love you supergiant!!! ❤
My brother introduced Bastion to me when I was 7, since then I’ve tried to play it at least once a year. I cannot thank you enough supergiant games. For giving me one of the best memories of my childhood, for teaching me to make do with what I have, to be thankful for what I’ve earned, that tough times are never something to give up at. Thank you. Thanks Jake, I never forgot. Love you bro.
Once again, it's basically criminal that we got this for free. Supergiant Games is an absolute gift to the world.
I have a chunk of 'Terminal March' from Bastion that has been my alarm sound through 3 different phones and about 6 years. It makes waking up bearable some days. Thank you so much for the wonderful music.
just one word... "chills"
To say Supergiant Games are one of my favorite game studios would be an understatement. Everything they put out absolutely blows me away in every aspect. I’ve been playing Bastion since it released... can’t even believe it’s been almost 10 whole years since I first played that amazing game when I was only like, eight years old. And this whole audio experience was... god it was magical. Then that ending segment of “Remember The Bastion” just gripped me and brought back so many memories. Now here I am. Obsessed with Hades and enjoying every mastercrafted detail of the experience.
I need them on a tour, through Europe, if possible. I'd save my money to see them on any theater in 1000km range!
Remember the Bastion makes me cry so hard every time, the music, the story, the gameplay, the art its too much. Supergiant games is a gift to the world in every respect
Every single Supergiant game, and every single soundtrack, has changed what I thought games could be, look like and sound like. This tribute to their amazing music is perfect. Thank you for sharing these masterpieces with all of us.
It’s like listening to a “On the Coast” version of all the songs. It’s awesome
You could have this be an unskippable ad (technically is in a certain viewpoint), and it would still be perfect.
Been following Super Giant since Bastion on the 360 as a kid and now seeing all of the well earned success Hades earned is like seeing a friend rise to newer heights. So glad to have been to help support them through this journey. Can't wait to see what comes next.
Just finished playing Transistor, still trying with Hades and I can't wait to go through all the incredible games this studio has. They are all brilliant, the music's got me charmed. Amazing!
yes, we do remember it. like it was yesterday
just checking in to note that the spine is probably in the top ten of my favorite vidja game songs ever and this does nothing whatsoever to convince me otherwise
I mean it with the out most respect - this takes me back to being a child and watching Disney movies. its grandiose, it's epic and it runs straight to your soul. P.S. Just cleared Hades for the 1st time. You people rock, thank you.
Very many many tears for the last song. So stunning
This album is celestial! I've bought the Le vinyl for Hades soundtrack, after hearing it dozens of times, and im amazed every single time how Darren's voice is angelic both in flacetto and normal, thanks for being blessed by this album!
This feels like a christmas gift given to us in advance
holy shit remember the bastion gave me a wave of nostalgia
transistor soundtrack especially to this day still gets me so feeling all the emotions. darren korb and the team always hits it out of the park. love from Australia
Remember The Bastion is one of my all time favorite remixes
Transistor is still my favorite piece of media, and the songs present here are just wonderful.
I'm not crying... You're crying!
paper boats was so beautiful
Every single person who has worked on one of these tracks is awesome! Thank you, everyone! Darren, Ashley, Austin, you, guys, are amazingly talented people and I love you!
This has been on almost non-stop since it was released. What an unbelievable journey it has been ever since I first tried the Bastion demo way back on the Xbox 360. Korb is a genius, and I'm so excited for the next 10 years of Supergiant Games! Much love
Why no "Good Riddance"? One of my favorite songs😢
Seems these were recorded pre-Hades
Hades was still in development when these performances were done, i think it was last year or something like that
We're a big fan of that one as well! This album is based off of the set list that was performed at PAX West 2019, which occurred a few months before Good Riddance was added to the game. We wanted to bring the live PAX performances to folks, so the track list was kept the same for this release.
@@supergiantgames I see, still your work is awesome
I'm sure that it won't be long till we hear "Good Riddance" in similar fashion :)
I REALLY love this
THIS HAS SERIOUSLY MADE MY DAY AND I'M ABOUT TO CRY. I can't wait to get my vinyl and this album is going to be on repeat for the next few weeks.
Well... this was a great Christmas Gift. Thanks Super Giant Games.
The duel mix Bastion song at the end made this a brilliant trip with a cherry on top finish, Bravo.
Every last thing that comes from Supergiant is a masterpiece, Hands down.
One year humming a song i did not know where it was from, and now i know is Remember the Bastion. love the soundtracks of your games.
