  • I am from the U.S. listening to this. GM Anish Giri is the best person to ask these questions to. It is very difficult to figure out who is going to win right now, except the idea GM Anish starts out with that GM Fabi’s chances are better than people think. If I were from India I would be for the 17 year old GM Gukesh to win, and be thrilled he is in the hunt!

    • Yeah , in my opinion but fabi's win is not how a champion wins tbh I respect him a lot , I'm just a mere chesscom 1500 , but considering this particular candidates , hikaru made a huge comeback from 5-6 position to 1. Gukesh a underdog perfomed spectacularly. But fabi , he had only 3 decisive games and those two wins were also not that mesmerizing. P.S notice I didn't care about nepo 😅

His rapid performance haven't been amazing in recent times and he himself said that rapid is his weakest time control currently. I won't deny that Hikaru may still want a tiebreak but I think he will push for a win if there's slight opportunity.

    @MurunGD@MurunGD13 күн бұрын
    • Even if that’s true. Hikaru is for choice in a faster time control versus the current candidates. I think his advantage there is greater than in classical still.

On the other hand, Caruana has to go for a win against Nepo no matter what, even if he has to risk the draw. So Anish was saying that Hikaru will be playing for two results without risking too much

IF Caruana has a chance to win he will push for a win in round 14, if he doesn't he will take the first chance he can to get a draw vs Nepo. IF Hikaru wins vs Nepo he will draw vs Gukesh, but if against my beliefs he draws he will play WILD chess to crush Gukesh with white. No matter how you look at it it will be vey very exciting.

  • By experience on watching many chess tournaments, in these situations, the fear of losing overcomes the "wish to win", its human nature, so today on round 13 i predict: Nepo - Hikaru : DRAW PRagg-Caruana: DRAW (but maybe not) Gukesh: Either Wins or draw, depending on Firouzja playstyle IF Gukesh Draws R13, Then R14 Naka-Gukesh are almost guaranteed to draw, FAbi will be in a must-win situation, But Fabi on must win situations still play very sound chess, and Nepo gets very shaky when the opponent must Win and he just needs to draw (Wcc against Ding speaks for itself), then I predict Caruana wins and TIE Break between FABI, GUKESH and NAKA. IF Gukesh Wins R13, Naka will be at must win, and no Matter what, Fabi will be out, cause all 3 results of Naka vs Gukesh keeps Fabi out of 1st place. Considering that, some might say that Fabi should play for win on R13 to have more control over his destiny BUT, the risks are too big to play for win with black against PRagg, so my guess is Fabi will just hope Gukesh doesn't win against Firouzja. So basically its all on Gukesh Vs Firouzja, If Gukesh wins, Naka and Nepo are in HUGE pressure, Caruana has no more chances so he will most likely play solid with white, and the results are simply incredibly hard to predict, anything can happen. If Gukesh Draws, i believe we are most likely heading to a 3 way tiebrek (or Nepo win because FAbi overpushes). now, for me, the most interesting result for R13 would be if Caruana wins and everyone else draw, cause R14 would be just complete chaos, the 4 leaders playing each other, and most likely heading to a 4 way tie. But is not likely to happen. Imo, the most likely outcome is 1-Gukesh Wins 2-Tiebreaks 3-Nepo wins 4-Naka Wins

  • In my opinion, Nepo really deserves the Win. Other players are good but Nepo really has an edge with his prep (except Fabi I suppose) and he is not wary of new lines. So he is not only a solid player but also creative one who can fight till the very end.

    @ankur67678@ankur6767813 күн бұрын
  • I think hikaru-nepo has a great chance of being decisive. From Ian's perspective, he knows hikaru is the favorite in tiebreak. He also knows Gukesh has a great winning chance against Reza, which would put Gukesh as a solo leader. His chance of beating fabi with black is very low, for him to catch up. Taking all that into consideration, I think he will really press for a win with white against Hikaru. Hikaru obviously wants to draw against nepo. Even if Gukesh wins, Hikaru has white against him next round. So Hikaru kinda has a safety net which nepo doesn't. And Hikaru playing for a draw instead of a win, gives nepo a good opportunity to press and win with white.

  • Hikaru makes substantial KZhead money every time he wins a game. And if he wins the tournament the potential monetization is substantial. And he is is playing very well. I also favor Hikaru in any rapid or blitz tie breaker. So I like his chances. But of course all four have a chance here. They may be underestimating the fact that Fabi is a half point back. He is great, but that half point is a real issue for his chances. I think it is something like Hikaru 30%, Nepo 26%, Gukesh 26%, Fabi 18%.

  • If Gukesh wins the Candidates it would be a sensation of historical proportion and, to me at least, more significant than the actual World Chess Championship Match itself. At the same time, that would be a huge disappointment for the players who were ranked among the top 10 in the world before the Candidates Tournament. The player who has really earned a shot at the title from my point of view is definitely Hikaru. Chances are that he won't even play another Candidates.

  • Amish’s take on Hikaru had a few holes in it. Saying Hikaru “wants” the rapid tie break is a bit strange. Is Hikaru confident of his chances in faster chess? Yes, very likely (although he did comment about how his bullet and blitz is much better than his rapid). But you know what Hikaru wants even more than a tiebreak? An outright win! Hikaru has the white prices that game after all. Second, in terms of Hikaru having no new opening moves as white, he played QA5+ early last game, which was out of nowhere for the analysts.

    • Anish is completely right. He said Hikaru wants tiebreaks assuming everyone draws in next round. In that case draw for Hikaru in last round means tiebreaks and loss means losing the event. When you go for win, you also risk losing so instead of risking Hikari will rather go for lines when he has small chance of pushing but not likely to backfire.
