Nice sightseeing tour of Pavullo city during the traffic pattern. At the last competition day of the 1st e-glide contest it was very difficult to get back home to the airfield. The finish cylinder was big enough to stay out of the rain shower and still finish the task. With a lot of patience I managed to climb with thermals above the final glide path and also used the FES to gain some more meters. Unfortunately you are not allowed to use the FES in rain and there are no outlanding fields north of Pavullo.

    • S to the tefan Stefan here with another INTENSE landing situation in crazy weather. But first please like, subscribe, and comment for more. OK so just to set up the situation for you and what's going on today - i have been given an amazing opportunity (thanks to my sponsors OpenVario and Cloud Dancers, please check them out online links below) like I said an amazing opportunity to practice landings IN THE RAIN in this beautiful setting. I don't want to spoil what happens for you so let's just take a look.

      @LungsMcGee@LungsMcGee3 жыл бұрын
    • Am I crazy that I think that gliders would be so much safer than any type of small plane Like if you really did the research on how to fly them properly I know if you do turns too tightly are probably other ways probably are other ways that it can become a very unsafe situation very quickly but as far as mechanical failure goes I feel like they would be much safer than old Cessna airplanes Are old small airplanes that did not make enough power because of the climate or the weather of the day and maybe that is pilot are because they didn't take off properly but still obviously you still have to get a toe up there so you're still relying on a pilot to catch you out there but I hope my line of logic is not totally unreasonable

    • @@nkristianschmidt Down wind and crosswind imply the wind direction. You typically choose the runway so you are landing against the wind (up wind) which allows landing in the shortest distance and stops you without as much braking. To get to the place where you are flying upwind, you enter the rectangular traffic pattern on the downwind (opposite the landing direction). You fly that until you are past the end of the runway where you turn crosswind. Then when you are nearly lined up with the runway, you turn to "final" and descend to the runway.

The pilot would’ve seen the same thing except the drops you see would’ve been glowing red or yellow. If you watch a video, realize that there is only one tracer round for every 3 to 5 rounds fired. • I did a bit of gliding once, and we always took it very high on landing. I struggle to recall the height, but we would start our circuit at 1000 ft, and would usually be well over 500 ft by the time we turned onto the runway. Gliders have really good spoilers that make them drop like stones, so getting down to the runway is no problem whatsoever. The permise was that we didn't have engines, so if we were low and got stuck in sinking air, we couldn't climb out. Now I only had 20 hours, and it was a long time ago. I can only assume this pilot knows his stuff. But seeing this just irks me. I would have been a lot higher. Hell, I would have landed straight in from the 2 second mark.
