    • @@ChequeWriter Commercial pilots _are_ bus drivers. And no one even mentions traffic controllers and airport crews, all of them as dedicated, professional, experienced and knowledgeable. Commercial aviation safety depends as much on them as the flight crew. Airlines, manufacturers and government oversight are, too.

  • Just a little information to those not familiar with jet engines. When the engines are operating in heavy rain the pilots put on a switch from cockpit that makes igniters (spark plugs) inside the engine go on "continuous fire", meaning they ignite all the time. In the extremely rare event that the engine have a flame out due to rain, it will immediately be reignited. The re-ignition are so fast, that it most often are not able to be seen on engine instruments, in the cockpit. A jet engine are actually slightly more efficient when in damp/rainy weather due to the higher expansion rate the air have inside the engine increasing EPR (Engine pressure ratio) of the engine. The engine pressure ratio are a very accurate indication of your jet engines workings. The EPR indicator in the cockpit are one of the 4 key engine instruments along with fuel flow, engine temperature, oil pressure/temperature.

    • @@xxjacksparrowxx6742 Not soon enough in my opinion. The North Sea summit agreement will result in 220 million people transitioned from fossil fuel made electricity to electricity from offshore windmill parks. That will not be felt by the consumers really but the REAL revolution are that same agreement will result in more green hydrogen produced daily than produced in the entire world to date. Unfortunately these amounts of green hydrogen will first hit the market in volumes around 8-10 years from now and our planets regulatory systems really are not able to wait that long. We should be at 220 Carbon PPM and are at unprecedented (2022 number) 417 PPM. Glaciology have proven that 30 PPM´s rise above the 220 have triggered long term climate changes causing the 3 largest species extinction periods we have been able to document. My insights are the reason why I left aviation to try to contribute more positively to humanity´s long term survival.

The French had airships in the mid 1800s, and almost-successful aircraft in the late 1800s; the French and Danish had successful aircraft by 1906; some also consider that the German Gustave Whitehead may have beaten the Wright Brothers to the first successful flight by 2 years (1901 vs 1903). So no, it's not particularly fitting, it's probably more to do with a combination of global power through the first half of the 20th century and globally agreed on languages of communication.

We backed from the gate just as a snowstorm moved in, waited for our turn to be de-iced (including some engines-off time to clear ice from the flaps), lined up on a runway with low visibility and blowing snow, took off into turbulent air, and... everything was fine. The pilots apologized for the delays, but they did it by the numbers to keep everyone safe. Kudos.

    • @@DHU11 who's worshipping? what pilots do takes a lot of training, skill, and pressure... we pay people to chase a ball billions of dollars. Professionals like doctors, pilots, etc. don't get that kind of appreciation. Being a commercial pilot comes with a lot of responsibility that you clearly don't understand.

  • Getting a plane into the air is the easy and hard part. The hardest are flying bc of tho, u have immaculate autopilot and interfaces; that cover almost ever single thing an AIRCRAFT ENGINEER COULD THINK OF IS ABSOLUTELY TRUE. The amount of physical and mental inputs and outtakes during a flight are staggering. Next time u have a blessed complete flight thank ur Flight Crew.
