Makes you appreciate how gargantuan Everest is. It is 10k feet higher than he was. That's nuts!
thanks I greatly appreciate it!
how did they manage to land a heli up there?
Well Everest itself is only 15,000 feet. It's altitude is 29,000 but that's a measurement from sea-level
Yes, Everest summit is only 11k ft above base camp, so this would actually seem higher, although the air would not be nearly as thin as 29k ft!
Some weird units of measurement in this thread ;) Mount Everest is 8,848 meters from sea level and Olympus Mons is about 21,900 meters high.
This helped me understand how deep the ocean really is.
33.000 feet.. I'd say that's pretty deep..When you look at it from way up high at 17,000 feet like this guy is yeah it's deep..
I was nervous just watching. But if you think about it, he was up at 17.5k feet which is about 3.3 miles high. If you took that distance and placed it horizontally on a globe of the earth, it would be nothing. Believe it or not, so is the depth of the Mariana's Trench, which is about 6.7 miles deep. It is not. It is 29,000 above the see level, but only half of that tall - the other half is not Everest actually
Mount everist has been done in these contraptions.✌️🇬🇧
The valley, ground, base, or bottom of Mount Everest is already at 17,600 feet above sea level - it’s almost like it sits on a plateau. From the ground, Everest goes up 11,400 feet. For a total of 29,000 feet. This is similar case with most other high mountains.
Technically Everest is the tallest above sea level. There is another mountain much taller in Hawaii. Mt. Mauna Kea stands (from base to tip) 33,496 feet tall. Incredibly Mauna Kea's bulk is 19,700 feet BELOW sea level, with only 13,796 of it above sea level.
