  • There are many such video clips of differential gears being repaired, crankshafts, camshafts, etc, but how come we never see the engine running? How come we don't see what it's like six months from now? I have my doubts and I don't think I'd like to be around when the customer comes back asking for a refund. Alex Ivanov, below, no, it's not cast iron. It's cast steel, look at the swarf while it's being drilled. Cast iron swarf is granular, steel produces spirals. An HT welding rod will do it but then the pinning bolts should also be HT. But they would appear to be mild steel because they're galvanized. HT cap screws or hex sets are black as a rule.

    • Steel repairs are not supposed to last long but long enough for the other existing cracks to fail first, that is the economic for repair, it is meant to get the last ounce of use out of an otherwise full of cracks part

  • that is a cast iron crank that never welds, it will snap again along the welding seam. steel bolts have different thermal expantion and will cause bending forces inside, and which is more the bearing surfaces are riuned, there is no way to polish or ressurect them. the crank is trash. p.s.someone tell them to measure bearings instead of oil seal surface

    • it is forged. I am a machinist and the crank is probably at least 4140. rod most likely 7018. half the tensile strength of the crank. he didn't v it out, not that it would of help. no penetration and welding alloy steel. zero chance it will work.

  • This is fake, that crank would snap straight away as the weld is in the area where the force is high. You can weld on cranks but not on a fracture like that. These guys are just doing this for a video the crank will never be used.

    • C'mon. Don't be a hater. That was a legit repair. I've done that a bunch of times. Everything from big diesels to nascar engines. They all hold up perfectly. The only thing I would have done differently is use softer bolts. Those ones looked too hard. 😂😂😂😂

  • I would never put that crankshaft in a mobile application, subject to starts, stops, sudden loads. Maybe continuous duty in a water pump or generator etc. And even then...light loads.

  • Hello ATO. That all looks like a carpenter fixing a table leg. Dowel pegs and all. This must be one of those scrap bin jobs where busted parts are “fixed” for the video. Sure hope Utube pays them well. On the other hand, that’s probably a crankshaft for a top fuel dragster. Maybe John Force Racing gets their cranks from ATO. Always wondered what those fender stickers stood for. Now we know.

  • Ничего удивительного не увидел , у нас в России до сих пор так делают многие. Камазисты и не такое могут делать. У нас это считается, низкокласифицированный и дешёвый ремонт . Это и правда не надолго . Единственный плюс, что человек не без дела сидит.

  • Most of the trucks over there running under those patents. Trucks are very old and there is no parts, this engine probably is of road engine for the fields or generator.

  • I suspect these guys have done this before.....ok would not happen in the west....but sometime we have to do what we have to do with what we have to hand. Yes I would like to see how it stand up in action....but at least they try.....maybe some are ok for a while and they are happy with that. If the could go to the dealership and get one off the shelf Im sure they would.

    • I appreciate what your saying, but at the end of the day there somethings that just cannot be repaired to a level required by the forces that are going to be applied. It's a matter of physics not economics.

  • Some things should not be repaired, like a cast iron crankshaft, ment it down and cast a new one.
