  • FOR YOU ANOMALY FOLLKS HERES THE BONUS FACT the flame weapons would be a C they are good for lighting up enemies but fire again is unpredictable at best. The Nerve Dart Bow would be an b for taking prisoners more effectively as well as prison management but i cant give it an a because its still pretty damaging for that purpose and its not good for taking down foes quickly with low stopping power.. The other biomutationg weapons are alright but you have to clean up the mess after so C at best. Deadlife mines are neat but it takes to long for the dead to rise so enemies have made it through the killbox by the time they are stopping any of them. Subscroob

    • to be fair it's all about how you use it, if you want a weapon weapon to end someone then sure. but the stun bow + a ghoul with wooden hands so they only give blunt damage instead of bleeding making perfect captures and the stun bow can really come in clutch... they're situational but still great and as much as i suck at rimworld have hard carried.

    • Flamethrowers became my new favorite weapons with the new dlc. Especially on my new Tribal blind anomaly playthrough (permadeath). They stole a flamethrower from some unlucky trader and had way too much fun burning their own base down. :D I had to defend myself against a Revenant. And i think that was the most tense i've ever been. The revenant appeared right in my midst. I wasn't particularly impressed(yet). Decided to wait for it to turn the corner, but it just flipping opened the door to my main combat focused pawn (who was still sleeping) and hypnotized him. So my next idea was to wait for it to walk by and assault it. Then it just vanished. That's when my tribals knew: 'We're fuuuucked'. I chekced the message and it said fire or emp. I had neither besides a few firecrackers looted off some neanderthals. So i did the only sensible thing and set the place ablaze. No luck, so every night my guys would huddle up, bows and shivs/knives/whatever else at the ready. It just wouldn't reappear. Then one night, a trader appeared. He did have a flamethrower but i did not have enough silver. So i ordered some emergency crafting, hoping i'd manage to make some goods for him. Then it reappeared and hypnotized the trader. I managed to get some chip shots in though. I saved the trader but did take the flamethrower for myself. And i set the place ablaze a second time because i'm a dumdum and did not learn anything from the prior attempt. So again, my guys and girls would stay up, weapons posed. Then it appeared on the third night after the second attack. It wanted my researcher (who was also my best shooter next to the Hussar that already was downed) this time around. My local idiot (who refuses to do anything besides eating, sleeping and art) had the flamethrower. The revenant stood right besides my researcher. Either i'd wait and probably loose my chance to take it down and have my researcher out of commission or i just go in bows blazing. I went in, burned the Revenant and my researcher and then everybody was on that thing. Alot of burns later (because my flamethrower guy had to keep lighting the thing up to keep it from dissappearing) on pretty much everybody but my dryad(who ran off in terror), the thing was finally down. I admit, the dlc might feel lackluster after the bombshell that was biotech but it does make the game alot harder, scarier, less forgiving and alot cooler stories. :D But yeah, i love my flamethrower now. (Also for burning corpses because gray ash event is only moderately funny if your entire map isn't burning to the ground)

  • Chain shotgun deserves to go way up. Outperform everything in low range kill box and most outdoor encounters and especially in many anomaly scenarios

    • Chain Shotgun should be S teir, it is one of the highest DPS weapons, fighting in close quarters is often alot more effective at quickly downing targets, using a combination of melee, and chain shotguns at choke points is devastating.

    • It's great for people who want to micromanage their defense. If you're always manually repositioning pawns to create ambushes outside your base: The chain shotgun will murder anything.

    • @@dlich6966 Pump Shotgun does indeed have the highest base accuracy for short range and the 3rd highest for touch range (being beaten by Machine Pistol and Heavy SMG in that regard) a low shooting skill pawn will benefit heavily from a Pump Shotgun.

  • Charge Lances do not deserve S tier imho as they are pretty gimmicky, in order for them to pay off you really need them to get a lucky hit on a bodypart such as the head which is unlikely. They also often do overkill damage to bodyparts meaning they aren't s efficient. You're statistically better off just going charge rifles for the increased DPS. Charge Lance is A tier at best. It's just not worth making with your precious spacer components. It's totally fine to grab one if one is free but to make them yourself? I'd hard recommend against that. It's in that uncomfortable spot where it doesn't do enough dps to justify making one yourself and better than most weapons that it can be pretty useful if you can get your hands on one for free. But outside of freebies, you don't want to be making these.

  • List is all over the place. In actual combat, you never want to fight enemy pawns on equal grounds, and as such kiting, outranging and splitting your enemy is main tactics. So in combat, chain shotguns in their range, which is easily enforceable by being in a kill box, outperform everything else. Ranged combat is dominated by sniper rifle and anything closer with hit-and-run is dominated by Assault rifle. Charge lance was nerfed to the ground and worse than sniper rifle or even bolt action, in certain circumstances. Charge rifle is a worse and more expensive version of Assault Rifle. Less range, higher CD, similar damage. Utility weapons, like emp grenades and smoke launcher, obv useful in their respective situations. Rest of the weapons can be just ignored, unless you want to just mess around and use them for fun. They just not as good, and on higher diff you need best of the best.

    • Okay so firstly with your charge rifle analysis WHAT? 36% more damage 218% more armor pen is "similar damage" The slightly worse fire rate makes it end up being 21% more raw dps Then the accurace and range are slightly worse, but with the range youre often gonna be planning around whatever weapon you're using for what range you play at so it's negligible. Not to mention when bringing quality into the mix that 20% dps increase is a lot more significant with masterwork charge and assault rifles Charge lance shouldn't be understated in taking out a priority target quickly, a legendary will likely 1hko most humans almost 1hkoing cataphracts too. Then you can also use it to pick off almost any mech cluster priority target utilizing a smoke launcher to make your escape. And no not all utility weapons are useful. Firefoam mortars suck

  • This list is more suitable for a casual playstyle... Chain shotguns, HMGs, and EMP grenades (launchers are garbage, can't even get through walls) are the killbox goats and miniguns are super underrated in field combat.

  • Chainshoty is S tier. Highest DPS in the game, effective with all shooting levels, relatively cheap to produce. Enemies close the distance so fast chain shotgun is almost always the best choice unless you have overwhelming firepower

  • I definitely agree sniper is powerful but another KZheadr pointed out that careful shooter becomes a huge downside in long fights. Also maybe it's just me but I love to have a hussar in the colony for that and they almost always come with crazy shooting skill.

  • You forgot the Dustlife killbox, just put a room full of bodies open before your killbox and you can raise 20+ undead back to life for 4hrs IG. it gets rid of a shit tons of bad raids

  • Machine pistol has the highest chance of any firearm to down an opponent without killing them. If you want more colonists, use machine pistol (and maces or clubs). If you just want the enemies gone, use anything else lol

  • I tried using the pila for hunting once. Most wildlife figures out wtf is goin on if I miss the first shot and ends up moving outside of range before I finish the wind up for a 2nd, 3rd 4th, oh look it's time to eat without a table, 5th, 6th, and bedtime with a bleeding animal that will die and be set to un-allowed because my hunter didn't technically kill it. Bad experience, would not recommend

  • Chain shotgun is like my favorite weapon in the whole game bruh. They can shred thrumbos, with melee fughters they can be used very well against insectoids or mechs. In my colony i have a chain shotgun for every ranged pawn stored in weapon storage just in case And with the Anomaly dlc they can be used very well against devourers

  • Incendiary shells have one good use, if you get a well clustered outdoors infestation sticking out of the underground they can be used to burn down most of the hives and call the bugs to your base and through your killbox. I also recommend setting up an outdoor location with some nearby home area and a small structure to possibly trigger infestations there, works nice when your underground freezer gets warm. You still have a small chance of any infestation triggering out there.

  • There are a lot of problems with this list. Chain shotgun and minigun deserve to be higher. Toxbomb is almost useless. The EMP launcher is crappy as well.

  • My favorite go-to gun would be the heavy smg. Decent range, good firepower and relatively cheap to make and even pawns with low shooting skill can hit that mountain with at leats one bullet at some point. I actually like using greatbows for quite a while as well, since they do massive damage over a long distance (my hunters usually sport greatbows until they get a sniper rifle) but i usually just give them to pawns that actually are good at shooting. (rip another spine i suppose.. sadly my own guys) Incendiary launcher (flamethrower :D) is my new go to that at least one pawn has against alot what anomaly throws at me. Turns out undead, monsties and undead monsties burn really, really, REALLY well.

  • I'm doing a new playthrough for the anomaly DLC. I got a legendary sniper rifle from a quest and gave it to a lvl 15 shooter pawn. In the first encounter it was used in, he managed to miss the megarachnid and shot the head off of my melee pawn engaged with said nid. 10/10

  • Currently doing my first anomaly playthrough, and I bought a minigun (good quality) very early on since the trader wasn’t selling any other weapons, I had some organs to sell, and I needed a gun for one of my colonists. That thing is a beast if you can cover them while they are readying to fire, especially against enemies with larger body sizes, which you see a good bit of in anomaly.

  • I would love to see a guide that goes over how much the quality of a weapon or a piece of armor affects its performance. I was reminded of a pawn I had once with a legendary revolver, and I always kept thinking when would be a good time to replace it with a different gun (i.e. I didn't know when the "legendary" modifier stopped outweighing other options).

  • honestly this changes a lot about how i gear up my colony now, i have no real knowledge of power to scale weapons with so if just use what i thought sounded cool lol. luckily a lot of rifles ig but unlucky a lot of revolvers too. I've been a fan of shotguns but never really had assault rifles and machine guns 🤔 guess i die off too early.

  • Id say, for anomaly only, all the fire weapons should each move up one tier for the sole reason that fire is insane when it comes to dealing with fleshbeasts, especially so with the Fleshmass Heart and Dreadmelds

  • You still cant convince my cultists that bioferrite axes aren't a gift from the void itself....or from Khorne. The amount of limbs that fall off from enemies and anomalies to quickly remove them from combat so you can get to the next really helps.

  • The shooter's skill and health status matters the most when it comes to what ranged weapon they should be using, and overall the Pump Shotgun is the best all rounder for almost any situation due to the really high touch (80%), close (87%), and medium (77%) range base accuracy. The Chain Shotgun is best used on pawns with already good shooting and health stats. Chain Shotgun may have the better DPS, but that won't really be a factor if your pawns miss majority of their shots. Honorable mention goes to the Machine Pistol for also being a non-shooter friendly weapon in really close quarters fights.

  • Honest I gotta say, if youre going for a melee based base defense giving your rangers chain shottys is amazing. I wouldn't put them in d tier myself, and smoke launchers. They can allow one pawn to solo dps certain mech clusters depending on the mechs. Ive used a sniper vs a mech cluster with a fair amount of centipede gunners and pikemen and with a couple of breaks for mood management was able to take it down with only one shot back landing Also firefoam shells. Literally the only reason I ever used one was because I thought they would explode if lit and I had no way to defend my farm from being burnt up by raiders. So next raid I was gonna haul them in and then that next raid that threatened my farm was after I got firefoam poppers. . . I bought them for nothing

  • Personally, I prefer the Assault Rifle to the Charge Rifle for the most part, as it has longer range and accuracy. But when you gotta fight mechanoids, the extra armour piercing is needed.

    • @@hozic9929 Deadlife traps are SS-tier. They'll handle ANY raid in the game with zero involvement from your colonists. Just set up an entire roofed room the size of the trap, throw every corpse you find in there, make that room a path towards your colony, and whenever a raid arrives, send a pawn to shoot the trap and raise all the corpses. Nothing survives it.

  • since anomly chain shot gun and mini gun performs way better then before especially minigun with 15+ shooting skill has now felt the accuray of an heavy smg ( and with crafting tiers i dont know how many times my 2 mini gunners saved the day at an devourer encounter spawing wooping 18-24 of them and they be able to pick them down 1 by one ) Sniper same down as many posted by many as anomly seems to have in mind so many anti killbox / long range counters .

  • Revolver is actually pretty good early weapon. Whopping 1(bolt action has 0,5) stopping power is really good when kiting melee enemies.

  • It's not in the base game but there's a mod that gives you a dual mounted M2 machine gun turret. That's my favorite weapon in the game even though it's not the most powerful.

  • I would put flamebow a bit higher. Sure, it is hard to come by, but it is an incredibly reliable utility weapon, more reliable than molotovs for that matter. Greatbows deserve a special mention as well - they have LONG RANGE - they are outranged only by handful of weapons - dedicated sniper rifles and bolt actions, miniguns and assault rifles and missile weapons. This alone makes them especially dangerous in open combat - because they force you out of cover. With other tribal weapons, you are perfectly fine sitting them out and outranging them - not with greatbows. Chain shotgun is easily an A tier weapon at least, perhaps even S - very high damage, good accuracy at its short range, decent enough rate of fire and unrivaled kill potential within its effective range - this is a prime weapon for dealing with infestations, clearing rooms and fighting within cramped killboxes. Incendiary launcher is not better than molotov. The thing is - molotov is thrown faster, and you can easily throw it, just like regular grenade - at short enough range to negate random deviation. Flame weapons are saturation weapons, and slow firing speed of incendiary launcher cripples it. Minigun being so low is also a mistake - it is an easy S tier weapon - IF you can deal slower than normal movement speed, this is one of the strongest weapons around - good range, good against crowds AND against large single enemies (remember, Centipedes are easier to hit!). A group of 4 minigunners is basically able to wipe out entire enemy raids and reliably lock down a decent area. I would say that sniper and bolt action do not deserve A tier, but B - their requirement of high skill hampers them massively and even with it, they are not exactly reliable. Sniper is good for kiting, but that is the very definition of a niche. Assault rifle is an S - it is a weapon that is incredibly versatile - high range means you can sit in cover unless enemy has dedicated snipers or pikemen. It has relatively low penetration value, sure, but it is still cheap enough to be rather easily massed. It remains useful, even once you have access to charge weapons, because of universally good range. Charge weapons... to me they are tethering somewhere between A and S. Charge lance on its own is a poor weapon - it needs to be massed, and is a good support. But as an individual gun... it is not great, unless you have extremely good shooters. And don't get me wrong, it has tremendous single-shot damage potential, but even with it, guns that shoot multiple bullets tend to do better. Charge rifle has wonderful damage output, but it is hampered by several issues - it has mediocre rate of fire, sub-par base accuracy and fairly pitiful range. Unless you can funnel the enemy into a killzone or if you have very, very good armour always on - this range may force you into a bad position. This gun is all about damage, but you need to know how to deliver it first. I'm disregarding killbox use here, because at this stage, it is just a DPS contest with a well designed killbox - go with chain shotty, heavy SMG, miniguns and charge rifles. But open field is a different beast entirely. Now... You may think that charge weapons are an obvious counter to mechanoids... But think about this - the most dangerous mechanoid in direct combat is not a centipede (unless they are massed)... It is a lancer. And lancers are barely armoured - this one tile difference that assault rifle gives you over charge lance means you can hit it before it even starts to aim - you give it less of a chance to headshot your pawns. Charge weapons are great, but you need to couple them with good armour

  • Charge lance in S tier? This was nerfed to the ground over the years. Take a look at Adam vs everything's gameplays and you will see this tier list is not exactly correct in many aspects.

  • The bows are good for one reason, to be able to be spammed crafted until a better weapon can be made. Wood is very easy to get in most biomes while components are really not. A masterwork or excellent great bow can carry a pawn all the way to mid game until they are good enough crafters to make the better ranged weapons.

  • I actually think the Pistol and the Pump Shotgun are better than F rank, at least E rank. These are great options for low skill. They are very decent for hunting prey that doesn't attack back, and repelling early game low count raids with ease.

  • ok but if you start without items and with the new arivals shortbows are gonna stay for a while unless you really focus on research in early game, see one time, because i somehow was too slow on research to upgrade i almost defeated diavolus (summoned by mistake) using shortbows and a breach axe (someone with bloodlust), now that i think about it i just wasn't lucky enough to get weapon traders neither any weapon reward quest, so even if they are the worst ranged weapon it is the only one that can be aquired on any biome except ice sheet and sea ice without any effort at all. Maybe I should try to get bigger weapons faster but i was trying to go for guns...

  • The chain shotgun is a beast i don't get why is it so low on the list. Just take 1-2 pawns close to enemy and they gonna destroy em. You can bring some animals with ya to protect those chainers if it's necessary.

  • I just outfit my entire colony with miniguns. Even 0 shooting colonists will help because shotting skills doesn't matter with miniguns first place, you just spray and pray. And then have maybe 2 colonists with shield belts and maces to keep the enemy busy

  • I dont think much has changed in 1.5 regarding weapons, i strongly disagree with chain shotgun being so low, it has a massive stagger and crazy damage, several pawns with chain shotguns can slaugther waves and waves of enemies, ofcourse if you dont keep them in open field. Early game > S TIER bolt action rifle & chain shotgun. Mid to late game you often get drop pods with enemies and i prefer to have versatile weapons so its either assault rifle or charge rifle for everyone. Charge lance and sniper rifles i dunno its really not often you get to use their full potential, maybe keep few on a stand for special ocasions when you have time to prepare for battle outside your base?

    • This video was done before then. i included some of them in a pinned comment :P this video is primarily focused on the usability of ranged weapons in open combat. so i think people millage will differ on this guide as some people will come into it with the preconception of killbox use primarily or other forms of combat. its hard to make an unbiased weapon guide XD

  • Yeah this list is odd. I want to add the industrial weapons are better as they are more specialised than spacer tech. If you only gave everyone one weapon type I'd sort of maybe understand the points made. But a mix of chain shotguns/heavy smgs, assault rifles and sniper rifles is 100% going to cover all bases, especially when you give the right mix of weapons to the right mix of pawns.
