Having a speed enhancing persona monosword on a pawn with a high melee skill wearing high rank cataphract armor and a regular shield (from a mod) equals the gate keeper
I had that exact thing (minus the shield, no mods) I put him on luci and gave him psycasts/bionics. He was indeed unstoppable.

Pyromaniacs with a high melee skill can use the plasma sword instead of molotov or incendiary launchers to still get the mood benefit. Imagine if he had the brawler trait too.

The best thing about spear is because of it property being it can penetrate armor to some degree, if you make it uranium or plasteel you create DIY version of monosword.

Persona weapons are so busted. If you use Ideology, always select persona weapons as relics. They are guaranteed legendary and that makes them even more broken as Hell.
The problem here is that some persona effects are actually so terrible that a pawn carrying the weapon is worse than a pawn using just a regular longsword or even their bare hands.
@@taelim6599 An effect that bad is quite rare. Most of them are mere nuiscances.

My melee colonist armed with a longsword, on multiple occasions, would go beserk and chop off at least two limbs of anyone trying to stop them before I could control them again. They even made a sculpture of them chopping people’s limbs off. After giving them a plasmasword they so brutally injured a prisoner who tried to escape, removing an eye, many fingers, toes, and entire limbs, to the point where they literally could not move at all and had to stay in bed. I love melee so much
Kinda late but I wanted to mention that the ikwa is pronounce ick-KWAA and is named that because of the sound it makes going into and out of the victim. Kinda badass... still D tier though :D
zeus hammer is my favrite, but i usualy have two pawns with plasma, 2 with mono and 2 with zeus, just so you can handle mechs and insects when needed, but i will always havespare zeus hammers so all 6 can equip them to tacle mech clusters since they can be the biggest threath to your colony

An additional effect of persona weapons is that they kind of work like biocoded weapons, but for colonists, not raiders. Since nobody but the bonded pawn can use a persona weapon, it becomes worthless and, more importantly _doesn't count towards raid points._ So the most powerful melee weapons in the game also generate the fewest raiders in retaliation.
What about maces for capturing early game colonists? Thats pretty cool. Are there any ranged weapons that have a small bonus to melee as well? Pila, for example should be like a weak spear in my opinion as well as ranged weapon.

I disagree with the choice of using steel as a base, while normal quality is fair, you can significant affect stuffable preformaces with the right materials, a prasteel longsword for instance is not faar behind an monosword and considering is crafatable your chances of getting an masterwork one are more controllable than the pure rng of quest rewards.

Man you deserve so many more subs brother. I subscribed after watching one video of yours. I just got rimworld on console since I dont have a computer. Could u do some console rimworld vids man? Most everything I see is modded to hell.
My issue with the plasma swords is they catch on fire and will run into the base instead of back to the enemies that are behind them. To me this makes them rank down below even early weapons. Yeah great for training against the wild beast on the map, but not great for tanking 70+ insectoids or tribals.
I feel like jade weapons make the most sense paired with the royalty kit since jade used to be used as a status symbol and all that
I'd personally rank plasmaswords at F-tier for one important reason: targets that are on fire ignore pathfinding restrictions. This means that they can walk RIGHT past your melee pawn you've set out to block people off from getting at your squishier less defended back line - and if they happen to manage to put themselves OUT, they're now free to cause trouble back there too. Or, more realistically, one of your pawns will shoot another pawn's eye out trying to gun them down. This isn't so bad when you're dealing with smaller raids of 30-50 pawns, but by the time you can reliably have plasmaswords floating around there's a good chance you're past that stage and things just get - hectic. Don't do plasmaswords, kids.
But on the other hand, if the enemy catches fire, they will run around like an idiot. You’ll be free to take free potshots at them. But monosword better

@@williammitchell6254 Melee's really the only efficient way to survive massive raids w/o mods or cheese: funneling enemies into chokepoints stoppered up by a single good melee pawn with solid armor and a shield can halt an entire raid in its tracks. Not using melee's a great way to die as soon as you start getting 100+ raiders on the map at once.

Making a melee master using a modded expensive weapon and armor that can withstand most melee and ranged attacks is probably one of the hardest pawns to build, but it's so rewarding seeing them destroy pretty much anyone they fight.
I think the danger of elephant tusk is over credited, elephants do not sttack on failed tame, getting a good tamer and you can "hunt" a bunch in time, that being said it sucks
Shoutout to Allis of the Durham colony and her biocoded link plasmasword for single handedly being the biggest threat to insects this side of the planet. Her sword Kellorvenmar is proudly displayed at her grave.

Best weapons for capturing prisoners are poisonous claws and teeth because they tend to down enemies with poison, so a chance for instant death from pain shock is much lower.

I honestly would place spear in the same tier as longsword. Cheaper than longword, marginally worse DPS, but stabbing attack has significantly better armour piercing value. So if you enemy any semblance of armour, chances are spear would do better, while longsword would likely do better against opponents with no armour. One important thing about Zeushammer, Plasma Sword and Monosword is that you can't craft them, and obtaining them from quests means you have basically no control over their quality and quantity - meanwhile, with good crafter, and hopefully a production specialist, you can quite easily equip your pawns with set of masterwork or even legendary maces, swords and spears.
or you can utilize the ideology system to get a legendary monosword, zeushammer, or plasmasword basically for free. if you do lose it however, oit's gonna be a pretty big loss however
@@Shovel________________ Fair enough, though I disregarded cheese when first writing the comment. If you can secure a steady supply, you are basically best to rely on Zeushammers. Basically, It seems like Biotech expansion, with improved melee damage genes revealed some interesting things about the way melee works in this game. And here is a hilarious, because with this gene on a melee pawn: Persona mono sword, legendary is the best weapon against centipedes. Persona legendary zeushammer - against virtually everything else If you can't secure these weapons: Plasteel sword for centipedes Uranium mace for everything else Now that sounds counterintuitive, but this is because of how overkill works. Blunt damage, if it destroys a body part, remaining damage sort of spills to adjacent body parts, allowing blunt weapons to smash weaker targets more easily. Lower DPS doesn't matter in this case, because damage is never really wasted. Slashing weapons work better for centipedes, because they can utilise their higher dps - centipede body parts have too much HP to be destroyed in a single hit and utilise overkill spilling damage.
jade clubs? they're used to bypass the damage reduction of Oni. oh, in Rimworld. not until the L5R mod I guess

You can find the s tier trio in ancient dangers too, but the only ones I've seen from those are persona ones
I think the real benefit to the gladius I'd that since it's so fast it's very good for pawns that have low to mid melee skill but you want to use or train melee for. It gives them lots of chances to hit like a dagger but it's stats are way better.
Tough, jogger, nimble high melee skill guy with a legendary increased movement speed persona monosword with full archotech body, on luci and high on go juice before battle wearing full legendary cataphract armor with a legendary shield belt and being hit with the focus psycast = i don't know too much power to count
my pawn once fight with 7 Raider, lv 17 in melee, he kill 3 raider in 1 hit each time with persona monosword and 2 of them use Cataphract armor. Talking about rolling dice for sure. 😂

not really, maybe for a blunt weapon but at that point use Uranium. Really its more for furniture or art

Strong disagree on the plasmasword, I would put it in B tier at best, maybe lower. The fire effect is disastrous. It scares your sanguophages, overheats the room if you're fighting indoors, spreads easily to your pawns or your base, and worst of all removes collision from enemies so they can easily overrun chokepoints. Maybe it works better for someone else's playstyle but I've never had anything but trouble with it.

I could be and probably am wrong, but I thought that mace, spear, and longsword are more dependent on what material. So I heard that uranium maces are best maces with steel longswords being equally good, but just for dps reasons, and specifically plasteel spears are the best kinds of spears and have best armor penetration of all of the medieval-period weapons. Is this not true?
no that is correct, HOWEVER, for this ranking we wanted to talk about base line steel, which is the average material for all stuffable weapons.

2024 and in unmodded Rimworld fists and to a lesser extent wood are still the best weapon, when it comes to subduing some early enemy for enslaving and converting. I don't feel like that's an F tier performance and the sheer utility should be mentioned. Only 90% joking here.
Modded RimWorld is wacky, Melee man of my colonist can dealt 40+ DPS with Mythic weapon from quest and supreme melee mod.

There´s a Mod i´d highly recommend, Suvi´s Charged Arsenal. It gives you a copious Amount of Melee Charge Weapons, from Longsword to Glaives and Kopesh. Perfect for a Melee only Playthrough that doesnt stop at Medieval.

I understand the mace placement but that's clearly a s tier to me. Blunt damage is the best type of damage in the game, vanilla armor sucks against this type of damage. If you go with uranium maces, that's clearly what you give your melee fighters if they don't have a persona weapon.
I agree a uranium mace is good. We announced at the start we were going with a basline of silver for every weapon. I will nake the ultra weapon crafting guide latter XD cus theres some stuff u can make haha
